Just got started with superstars and it needs some performance patches but it's okay, pretty good not blown away tho but I haven't played much. I expect Wonder to be more promising hopefully
People expecting high difficulty in side-scrolling Mario games is a small group of Dark Souls players expecting an easy difficulty...lol. Already got the game and will be playing it this weekend.
Currently on World 7 myself, game really does feel like Super Mario World 3. My biggest complaint is the lack of challenging levels though. I would love a DLC that just gives us some new 5 star courses because holy hell the 5 star challenges in this game are tough. Ive died at least 200 times in the special world so far. Other than that though the game is near pefect and the controls are the tightest they've been. Im really happy they finally ditched the "New" series this feels like it stands on its own as a Mario title.
@@BulbminFan I wouldn’t say “pirated” more like “modded onto their Switch.” It’s surprising me how many people already have this game that isn’t early access by Nintendo.

Super Mario Wonder is definitely not just the best looking Mario game in a long time, Mario Bros Wonder is one of the best looking games on the Nintendo Switch. Period.
I always felt like the recent 2D Mario games leant alittle bit too heavy on the co-op aspect, levels felt like they were abit too open, obviously to cater for 4 players on screen at once. When i saw Wonder announced i thought it looked like a continuation of that. Can anybody tell me whether its enjoyable as a solo experience only. I love my 2D Mario games as single player experiences 😊
What’s the chance that blank spot in Mario maker 2 was so they could release this and a few months later add wonder? I know that’s a pipe dream but imagine
Seeing the animations when collecting power ups puts a tear to my eye. Such a neat little touch that adds a splash of shonen energy to the Mario universe.
The fact that you said it's the best 2D mario since Super Mario World just sold a copy for me. I never really played the New Super Mario Bros. games (as I missed out on every Nintendo system between the N64 and Switch) they looked mildly fun but nothing to clamor about, so this will finally be the true follow up to Super Mario World that I've waiting OH SO PATIENTLY for years for. And honestly the review makes the game sound exactly what everyone thought and hoped this game would be... nothing revolutionary but heads above NSMB.
I do hope they’ve at least got some difficult worlds at the end of the game like Super Mario World. I do enjoy Mario but they can be quite easy at times so I’d appreciate a few difficult challenges toward the later part of the game.
The new actor does a great job. Not as high pitched as Charles on Mario’s phrases but those who don’t have super keen ears I doubt will notice. Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom!
I love the wonder flower theme but I can't say I was a fan of it being on loop for the entire review, it got a little grating. Otherwise, great review, looking forward to trying this game
The Game sounds great but easy mode should be a switch on or off. What about the players who want to play as Yoshi or Nabbet who want to play the game normally. Nintendo needs to stop making easy modes tide to certain characters.
First, no timer and score count reduces replayability! That’s my first big issue!!! Next, I think it’s thematically inconsistent to have only one animal transformation, and the elephant just sticks out too much. They could have simply have Mole Mario instead of the drill hat or remove elephant Mario and make him Morph into Wario or a big Muscular Mario that sucks water up his cheeks. This is my only complaint because it otherwise looks great but these are weird design choices if they have only one animal transformation if I don’t count wonder flower morphs. Other Mario games all had a few different animal types so it’s just weird. Bubble Mario could be an Octopus Morph, Wall Jump badge could be Spider Badge,…The animal motive should be diverse as in other games or none. Like SML had dragon hat, Bunny hat, Viking hat. Other games had Racoon, Cat, Bee, Plant,… this is really OFF here. Lastly, weak bosses, there should be more of them. There could be at least one more world and overall the difficulty should be higher. Back then people couldn’t complain since there was no internet, they just played and learned! Even 5* Levels look like a breeze. They could put more effort into creating a clever challenge along with timer and score which are essential- its a staple of the original games so I think it’s a big overlook to avoid it even if they wanted to push more exploration-but original SMB had a timer and I could still explore within that limit;)
My only fear is that there are not many bosses or only the same one a little different. We have only seen this one Bowser Jr. fight and we can assume the final one is Bowser as a castle or some other weird form. I would like some diversity in bosses and unique ones. Edit: Well, I just spoilered myself and I'm not happy about the thing I found out
I get what you're saying, as I tend to enjoy boss diversity as well. That said, if this is meant to be an updated take on the old classic 2D Mario games, you have to look at how bosses have traditionally been done in those games. In the earliest Mario games, you basically had the same boss in each world, just with a slightly different attack pattern or other difference to make things harder as you went. Without getting too spoilery, it sounds like there is still enough variety in the way each fight plays out to keep it from feeling too much the same. But that could just be the perspective of someone old enough to remember playing the original NES Mario when it first came out. Regardless, hopefully the changes in the rest of the game will be enough to keep a wide variety of players happy. Time will tell, I suppose.
Generally you just jump on a one of the koopa kids head 3 times and they do random attacks for each person. The 2d bosses were never super diverse. The levels are the bosses.
Honestly this looks prefect. I actually haven’t had much to play in 2023 due to many of the major releases not appealing to me, but I can never turn down a solid 2D platformer romp. Shame about the lack of difficulty, but I’m sure the creative level design will make up for it. Im definitely going to pick this up
@@Mikeyboy779 I do like quite a few games, but only a select few genres. Platfomers, JRPGS, Character Action, and fighting games being my preferred. The biggest things this year was stuff like Armored Core, Zelda, Balder’s Gate and stuff like that, and I was never into those games
This is reminding me of a comment my brother-in-law once made before he passed away in 2021; he was always an avid Nintendo/videogame collector & a HUGE Mario fan. He had once told me that way back in the late 60s/early 70s during his college years he, like so many others back then, had tried "recreational" drugs before he quit them upon leaving college. After sharing that with me, he had laughed, "It's a good thing the Mario games didn't exist back then, otherwise my brain would have been shot into outer space!" 😂😂😂
I just played this today for the first time (on the Steam Deck). Yeah, "wonder" is the right word. And as the reviewer says, it reminds me EXACTLY of the feeling I had when I played Super Mario World. It was another level above any other platformer. In the modern world, we have more competition. But, within the limitation of simple "just one more go" type gaming, it is similarly superior to everything else out there.
I agree. I had reservations based on the previews for the game but I take it all back. This is a great Mario game and hope they add some DLC content to it. The only way to make it better is if they had incorporated the "koopalings" into each stage or add some content with the koopalings. Fighting bowser jr. at each section and the bowser final fight is too easy. I wouldn't mind a bit tougher ending. The "wonder seeds" don't make it as ADHD/spectrum inducing as the trailers make it out to be. I hope to see a sequel to this game on Switch 2. I think I prefer this to Mario Odyssey TBH.
This game is going to be everything I’ve ever wanted from a Mario game!!!!! If there’s any complaint I’d have, it’s just that Yoshi can’t use power-ups; he’s look adorable with power-ups! But I don’t even care that much! The roster, the unique levels, the multiplayer coop, the new characters, the music, everything looks so GOOD!!!!!
I can't wait to play this, it looks great and super fun. I'll probably have to wait until December to play it, but oh well, I'll have plenty of fun then!
My only gripe to me so far is the difficulty of the game. It looks easy. I am experienced with Mario platforms and I just wish there was more of a challenge. The game seems super cool, but I just wish there was a option where you could increase or decrease difficulty that would make the levels harder. As in adding smaller platforms, more challenging obstacles etc.
If you like 2D Mario, this is a no brainer to buy. I'm just so glad they didn't wait for the switch 2 to come out before releasing it... Although I'm also excited for the new switch too and will probably get one on release day.
the yoshis and nabbit in this game are for my mother, i might play as mario or luigi or toad. my mother thinks the levels look too hard but i told her just pick yoshi when the game comes out and stand in front of me to lead the way and use the tongue ability to swallow enemies and if you fall off a cliff use your ghost to fly up to me so i can revive you, its not that hard. the plan should work.
Grand poobear put up a video of him playing the demo a few days ago, he’s a professional mario player. The only thing I remember him saying is that the characters move fast and stop very quickly and that it’s definitely different than nsmb.
Tbh I don’t find the controls in the NSMB games to be that slippery. SMW on the other hand feels very slippery because of how loose it controls, yet most people find that game to have the best control out of every 2D Mario game. If you ask me, SMB3 easily has the best control out of every 2D Mario game and I hope Wonder has a similar control to that game.
The 2D platformer has pretty much been perfected, so there's really no way to "push the envelope." Games don't need to introduce groundbreaking, forever genre changing elements to be amazing games. When it comes to 2D platformers, I just want to see developers take the perfected core of the genre and create new experiences by mixing it with interesting new ideas.
I'm just buying a switch now and it's coming this week, I had a Lite and played most of odyssey before selling it a couple weeks later to get my ps5 on launch. Of the mario games such as Wonder and Bowsers revenge which would you reccomend to start? It's for my toddler son ultimately but I'm gonna give it a play til he's old enough
Glad to see the praise! I just came off of Kinda Funny’s review where Tim Gettys made clear it wasn’t in his “Top 5 Mario games” that kept him from giving it a 5 out of 5 lol. But to hear it stands with Super Mario World is refreshing to hear.
Are there any fun replayable elements like beating your best time? or minigames or other unlockables? I usually find myself only moderately interested in 2D mario games because you just get the coins in the levels and that's it.
Funny thing that you compare this to Super Mario World in the sense that this would be a similar upgrade to the franchise. Mario didn't feel like an aging formula when SNES was introduced. Much of the creativity and versatility was otherwise already present in Super Mario Bros 3, which in a way actually had more abilities than Super Mario World did, but the major thing that Super Mario World brought was the fantastic world map, with secret paths and areas including the switch palaces to discover. That's what made Super Mario World so fantastic, and that's also something that the latter installments in the series have lacked!
Yeah but can we turn off the constant "Good" that pops up whenever we do a thing that everybody knows they're supposed to be doing, so we don't have to feel like Nintendo is treating us like a bunch of idiots? 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
I'm disappointed with the lack of difficulty given all the ways the game is made easier for those who want an easier go of it; badges, multiplayer, revives. Locking progression on the over world behind seed counts while making stages so easy that you grab all the seeds on the first run for every stage makes me ask "what's the point?"--I always have more than enough seeds before I've even gotten to the roadblock. This makes the shops selling the seeds in each world doubly pointless. A great feature of Super Mario World were the coloured switch blocks that would open new possibilities and leave you excited to revisit older stages knowing you've unlocked newer capabilities. It would have been nice if the seeds or purple coins were locked behind some of the badge abilities or power ups that aren't available until later to give a similar replayability for completion. A greater incentive for 100% completion also would have been great. I find that in 2023, I have more than enough games and not enough time to play them all. I'm happy to see each stage once--I'm amazed that Nintendo came up with a unique wonder flower for each... but there's not enough here to keep me around. I think that's a shame because they did a great job with the level design, all the new animations and new monsters. For this generation of kids who will grow up playing Nintendo games; Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a great introduction worthy of the 9/10 score. But for those who are well seasoned by now, this game felt more like a 6 or 7. Much like a firework display, Wonder is dazzling and brilliant but too short lived.
You mention that it isn't very difficult, but do you mean even with 100% of the levels? I didn't have trouble finishing the game but some of the hidden/bonus/optional levels are very difficult, i think.
@@gh3meister it was like a happy tear thing. No other Mario has matched the highs of SMW for me. They've all been fine to pretty darn good, but Wonder looks like it might be the first 2D Mario in 30 years that truly rivals SMW. And that makes me happy. I desperately want this to as good or better.
The one level that was themed after The Trail of Tears was really dark out of no where, and I'm not going to claim it wasn't in poor taste, but I just don't see how that one level should cause such hit to the total score.

What do you mean? Did you pirate it?
@@BulbminFan I wouldn’t say “pirated” more like “modded onto their Switch.” It’s surprising me how many people already have this game that isn’t early access by Nintendo.

I'm just curious if the claim "best 2D Mario since SMW" takes Yoshi Island into account. If yes, that says a lot for me.
Honestly while I was playing through the game I had a thought where I was like "Wow this feels like Super Mario World 3". Yoshis island has a special place in my heart so nothings gonna top it but I would say this games definitively better than SMW1
@@stuff3862 I would love it to be a little more difficult. The Airship bosses for example are so easy it's insulting.
Super Mario Wonder is definitely not just the best looking Mario game in a long time, Mario Bros Wonder is one of the best looking games on the Nintendo Switch. Period.
After playing this game for the past 2 days, it's fantastic. I think it's worth a purchase.
Can you use a d-pad?
Yes, DPAD works on as well as the analog sticks on my XBOX controller with the game.@@dcta51
I heard this game is a masterpiece. A great departure from the “New” Super Mario Games. Cant wait to get it on the 20th!!
Incredibly satisfying solo and offline. 10/10 my new favourite 2D Mario
ITS INCREDIBLE!!!!!
I kinda wish green Yoshi had been normal difficulty with the colors others being easy mode. Aside from that it’s great. 👍
Exactly what I was thinking.
Probably going to be one of my favourite games it looks fantastic and the shot in the arm 2D Mario needed. Can’t wait for Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Maybe I missed it but how long is the main campaign? Time/ how many levels?
There’s about 5 hours of gameplay there is full game plays on RUclips
@ I appreciate the reply, I’ve since bought it and beat it and moved on lol. Fun game but kind of short.
Honestly I don’t like punishing platforming so this sounds sooooo good to me
I do hope they’ve at least got some difficult worlds at the end of the game like Super Mario World.
I hope there’s some sort of rainbow world when you unlock everything
I love the wonder flower theme but I can't say I was a fan of it being on loop for the entire review, it got a little grating. Otherwise, great review, looking forward to trying this game
Kinda like Nintendo fans 🤣
I want to pick up either Mario wonder or 3D world to play with my little brother… wich one should I go for? I really need help
I'm sure it's too late for an answer , but wonder, to me, is far better peace and love
My only fear is that there are not many bosses or only the same one a little different. We have only seen this one Bowser Jr. fight and we can assume the final one is Bowser as a castle or some other weird form. I would like some diversity in bosses and unique ones.
Edit: Well, I just spoilered myself and I'm not happy about the thing I found out
what happened?
@rogywantscoffee843
In my opininion it is ok if every battle is unique and is getting harder…
Im definitely going to pick this up
You most not like most games then
@@Mikeyboy779 I do like quite a few games, but only a select few genres. Platfomers, JRPGS, Character Action, and fighting games being my preferred. The biggest things this year was stuff like Armored Core, Zelda, Balder’s Gate and stuff like that, and I was never into those games
I got the game late due to school and work, but I gotta say this is one of the best mario games I've played in a long time. I'm hooked. 10/10 for me.
Math isn’t mathing…”best in 30 years” but gets a 9/10?
Liked and Subbed for correctly pronouncing "Mario" - even against all mainstream pressure ;)
It looks like a more smoother game than NSMB
I can't wait to play this, it looks great and super fun. I'll probably have to wait until December to play it, but oh well, I'll have plenty of fun then!
My only gripe to me so far is the difficulty of the game. It looks easy. I am experienced with Mario platforms and I just wish there was more of a challenge. The game seems super cool, but I just wish there was a option where you could increase or decrease difficulty that would make the levels harder. As in adding smaller platforms, more challenging obstacles etc.
Ah based of the reviews this must be that super hero game releasing on Friday that everybody is talking about
If you like 2D Mario, this is a no brainer to buy.
I'm just so glad they didn't wait for the switch 2 to come out before releasing it...
Although I'm also excited for the new switch too and will probably get one on release day.
Super Mario World is still the best Mario
Wonder looks like it's going to give it a run for its money.
the yoshis and nabbit in this game are for my mother, i might play as mario or luigi or toad. my mother thinks the levels look too hard but i told her just pick yoshi when the game comes out and stand in front of me to lead the way and use the tongue ability to swallow enemies and if you fall off a cliff use your ghost to fly up to me so i can revive you, its not that hard. the plan should work.
Alex, can I use the switch dpad to control Mario? Or is controlling mario and friends only assigned to the left stick?
You’ve got to mention the use of music in this game as well - really adds to the whole experience
Are the controls slippery like in the NSMB series? I’m definitely hoping it has tighter controls.

Indie platformers have been innovative for years
That's 2D games in general. JRPG's, Platformers, Fighting games etc.
Gameplay and design look great. But dont like at all the colours, something is seriously wrong with the selection of colours.
I really really REAAALLLLLYYYY want a Mario Wonder stage for Smash 6.
I’m ready for this game coming soon.

Glad to hear that you're back creating these Videos Alex.
Super Mario Wonder is indeed a treat.
Alex never left. He's always with you wherever you go.
This review did not mention the audio or music in any way that Kind of weird.
So I’m 42, use to love gaming. Can’t get a ps5/xbox as I just don’t have the time. Just casual gaming, would switch be good?
Definitely! It's probably the best console for casual games
I love watching videos of Mario games but I don't like playing them.😅 Looking forward to watching clips of this game. It looks great.
