- Eric Clapton with Andy Fairweather-Low - "Gin House"
Live at the Yokohama Arena, Japan November 24 1999.
Andy Fairtweather-Low sings (Amen Corner's) Gin House and Clapton delivers a fantastic, beautifully evolving solo. One of the best ever performances of this song.
I LOVE this song. Andy is criminally underrated.
amen to that
Clapton is on fire!
Just a masterclass of building musical tension and releasing it.
Staggeringly good. One of the many examples that show EC at his career peak during the 90s decade. Awesome!
When you watch Eric Clapton, you get a complete package. He is surrounded by a coterie of superb musicians who he could learn from and from whom they could also learn. It is musical symbiosis at its forefront. Andy Fairweather Low is an understated musician but if one would keenly observe, his rhythm playing exudes nifty nuances. His vocals are great on this one and right on the dime. And Eric? what one of his TRANCE-LIKE EXCURSIONS.
MAN!
Clapton entered with such class, he couldn't have started his solo any better
Andy Fairweather-Low is going for it! excellent
Hey it’s you. Love your videos.
I can't believe people waste the time to argue over who's the best guitar player.... Listen & enjoy the magic of the moment. Players at this level don't care.
I always tells them there is no best... They best is who YOU like best.
Ah, when Clapton is on fire I don't think many guitarists can compete. But it isn't about competing, it's about soul, feel and ultimately entertainment. Clapton has a rare gift that even Hendrix can't beat. That's only my opinion.
ha più musicalità di tutti è questo che gli dà il primato su tutti la sua mesicalita musicalità negli assolo è questo che l ha fatto durare nel tempo ai vertici
Clapton in the 90s to early 2000s is too underrated... I’d put that up there with any of his earlier stuff. It’s like he needed to get a bit older to combine the fire from his youth with the decades of learning licks and styles.
I think most people are coming around to this idea. He was in exceptional form during this period.
funny, bc by then he absolutely mastered it when he got sober sound 90
Mid 70s late 80s was a "lazier" Eric
OMG AMAZING !!!! Whoever posted this video should get a gold medal for outstanding service to humanity !!!!
Died and gone to heaven ... this is GREAT.
So much for the younger generation of fools that say CLAPTON's leads are boring. They seem to think shredding has to be included. While I can respect those that have a shredding ability, to me it's NOT music. It's a jumbled mess of noise with no melody. Fitting in a melodic lead solo into a great song takes much more talent, and if he wanted, CLAPTON could do justice to any song with any musician. Yet he’s perfectly content to take the back seat and let others step out and shine.
and then Clapton stood up......
Sharon, I think that is great when a person can sum up the whoe situation in four or five words. You did it then. Tony Robson
@Sharon Yep! And then a nuclear explosion!
And ThE slide started It up
Wow that solo from ec was gargantuan the hairs on my arm were standing on edge the whole time.
Slide with reverb , masterpiece & AFLs voice
This song has more feeling and soul in one note than entire songs that are done today do. Great matchup with Eric and Andy, just absolutely beautiful sweet music, no bullshit gimmicks or props, just great music.....
Gary Clark That true, the blues is easy to play, but hard to feel (to play out the feelings on any instrument), but E.C can do that, better than any one. Can't wait to 8.July to see you,Winwood,Santana and Clapton..
Love 💕 Andy
Too right !!!
So you probably can t compute the amount of soul in Nina Simone version. Their is no need for a big guitar solo to wake you up after 4 bland minutes of sleepy blues with forced vocals..
@@simonrano8072you probly can't compute how irrelevant your opinion is...🤷
This song gets better and better! Love the way EC takes a back seat when he's not doing his solo. Go AFL, go!
yeah and then he gets up and goes bonkers lol
AWESOME!!!! Nothing else needs to be said!
Great one :) Haven't heard AFL like that before, and eric solo is just splendid !
This is Andy’s song
On my God! That's ridiculousoly brilliant!
The finest rendition of this song ever recorded. Andy has the perfect voice and range for this song. As for EC, he does what he normally does, moves you to tears.
Brilliant Clapton on guitar and wonderful singing by Andy Fairweather Low! For me one of the very best blues recordings ever!
Agree - it's the one song I never saw performed live - before and after our dates.
Just hearing it today😮😮😮 dam!❤❤❤
Ain’t this just the best blues track you ever heard?
Andy I still love you! Gin House made a woman outa me. I was a mother at 16 in 1970. I'd do it all again Andy. I absolutely love this. Thank you.
this is one of the best solo's by clapton, ever!!! ever!! and andy has one of the best rock voices ever, ever! thank you for this clip. this is what music is all about. pure, raw emotion.
I love how Clapton and Andy bow to each other when the guitar solo ends.
Amazon "Eric Clapton - In Japan". It's great. Have it myself.
Thank you my friend for sharing this one - I'll pass it on.....
F*****g awesome!!!
'ole Andy has got himself a fine lead guitarist there I wonder who he is?
This one ! That is a blues That has its own 'carnadura' and essential … He has his OWN CARNADURA . . . And the guitar solos by Clapton just escape from the World !, from the planet, to the stratosphere !, and get lost in the Universe; in the infinite . . . ► Firmado : el Beat.♪
Ok, i have to say this is the video I was craving to see on youtube! Andy does a great job, but that solo...I don't care how hard it is to play, or technique or whatever, all I know is that it almost has a physical effect on me. It may very well be one of the greatest performances ever uploaded on youtube. Thank you, slunky ;)
I have yet another request to make to you, if I may ^^ From the same concert - Ramblin' on my mind :)
Thank you again!
This demonstrates what a great singer and understated (a word that does not necessarily apply to Eric)guitar player Andy Fairweather-Low is. A brilliant version of a classic.
One of my all time favorites ... chicken skin music
Andy is a Welsh Treasure and Mr. Clapton isn't to shabby himself. It is wonderful to see two Artists share the stage the way they did with total respect for each other. The listeners and the viewers are the winners. You got to love it!
Clapton in the 90's was *FIRE*
Just me or does Clapton have a extra spark when doing these Japan shows?
Nick, I agree with you, I think he does.
Absolutely!
He certainly has the “spark”. But gotta remember this was recorded 20 years ago. Having seen Clapton recently, he flashes his brilliance infrequently now.
Well yeah I get your point but what other guitarist at his age has been flashing their brilliance longer? 50 plus years.
Sokie
I know you went through loss..I did too..mine was named Jennifer Lynn Hudy born 03/19/92 and drown at Iverson Park in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on August 8, 1995. Bless you and stay strong.
It just doesn't get much better than this !
N1095A Muddy waters
N1095Ah
Yes it does, watch baloise session 2013 ruclips.net/video/nTzwLj1exEk/видео.html BEST SOLO EVER
N1095A :This is the Real Deal ,,,,
Awesome !! Outstanding!! Not from this world
Andy has made this song his own!!
And then Clapton stood up
solo incredible .... Clapton is god
It's a common misunderstanding, that Clapton doesn't use Gibsons, but Clapton has played Gibsons and Martins throughout his 45-year career. There's lots of Clapton with Gibsons videos on RUclips, even on my channel :)
Every version of this song is teasing my heart and soul.... Andy Fairweather Low & Eric Clapton did it often ... also wonderful at Baloise-Session 2013 ... It is one of the greatest songs ever ! This says 68 aged fan !
Masterpiece , of the worlds greatest guitarists ..Sad its never been played on the radio in australia ..Love to have seen them guys
absolutely amazing. Andy singing. He can definitly sing. The solo of EC is not from this world. Wished i Would be there.
Nobody and I mean nobody bends the strings better than Clapton! It,s like Santana said, "Eric get,s inside the note" !
That's down to his his unique vibrato, from the elbow. Who else has so much range in one note, only Clapton. Some gypsy jazz players do however use a lot of elbow vibrato.
At 3:58 everyone of us say HOLY FUCK ! i know.
4:53 new dimension opened
I love you Eric and Blackie :-)
steve gadd awesome
Untouchable solo,great vocals,power,passion,look no further.
One of the most beautiful and expressive solos ever, amazing clapton, simply the best...
I'm sure the old blues guys would be proud if they knew that the music they founded had spawned a guitar break like this ! AWESOME!!!
No question about it: Eric at his very finest.
I remember being absolutely blown away by this when I got a dodgy audio recording from somewhere back in the days before discovering RUclips (the year known as 2000).
si no es el mejor creo esta muy cerca de ser uno de las mejores interpretaciones y solos de la historia.
@Trevmitchell I've seen clapton at Hard Rock Calling, his entierly acoustic session was in slide blues i remember, no it's not so rare !
what a godly solo
In Memory of my Dad, Raymond E. Mullinax

🕯
This was one of his favorite songs.
British blues players of the 60s/70s...excellent.
Clapton should have let Andy have the solo (the whole spotlight) Clapton sounds great here but come on, give Andy a nod. eh
He doesn’t want to get showed up. That’s why he never played with Gary Moore
Superb version. But I always did like Andy Fairweather-Low's original version with Amen Corner which came out in 1966 or 1967. Lovely guitar work here, matching soulful singing. I love the guitar reverb at the beginning and end and the harmonising guitars.
...and I believe it has actual 'tremolo' on it, meaning pulsing changes in volume, which usually you only hear in surf music. And for the old Fender amp tremolo/reverb discussion (they mislabel), here's a rare chance to hear tremolo.
Yay. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.........................................................................................................
Oh yeah!
I belive that Jimi Hendrix was right, Clapton was best.. BB King said that to, and Buddy Guy was secound to him..
@bennyhaist Yes, Clapton played slide also on 461 Ocean Boulevard and other 70's albums. He played it on Tulsa Time and on Money and Cigarettes and of course on the great From The Cradle-album. He also uses slide at some point on almost all his concerts.
I wish Andy would tour with him again, I love what he brings to the table. This is one of my favorites along with "If Paradise is Half as Nice".
AwwwwwRight ! It moves me passionately ! So Blazen & Frozen ! Thanks ! Yowzer, Yowza, Yaeyza !
When Clapton stands up tho….. ♥️♥️♥️🔥🔥🔥😳
I first head him sing Gin House at the Albert Hall in 1967 when Amen Corner played and Hendrix topped the bill. For me Andy Fairweather Low and the saxophones of Amen Corner performing this were the highlight of the night, Hendrix a very close second.
Forgot what a tremendous singer AFW is. awesome clip. I'd not seen in a while. Having fun watching some great artists tonight. thanks for posting them guys!
He wasn't fired. As far as I know he just decided to pursue different things.
What a voice!! I grew up through my teens watching these guys both live and on TV. I bought Amen Corner singles and the first edition of the Beano album. I saw EC with George and Delaney & Co. I saw A.F.L. on the same bill as Hendrix. Look, Listen, Feel and Learn!! F**K Strats, Tele's, LP's or whatever. See if you can do this good.
This is a stunning performance, especially from Andy, try to appreciate it
Truly great blues!!!
¡Éste sí! Que es un blues Que tiene : ♦·carnadura·♦ propia! y esencial. Clapton is God.
Clapton is not God. But he is God's guitar teacher.
En realidad, el nombre de éste down-home blues es : ♦·Me and my gin·♦.♪. . . Great Eric!! fabulous
I watched AFL and Amen Corner perform this in Hereford in 1967. That was a great experience, but, if anything, this one is better. Maybe a few less girls screaming.
Its shocking that the older Clapton gets the better...!
2021>>> I listen to this at least once a week. A masterpiece. #nYc2o2i
This is nothing short of incredible!
Two dislikes... no soul, some people.
Somebody HELP them!!
Thanks for posting this. It is a great performance of Gin House.
Andy’s song… totally includes his own solo. So why? Clapton doesn’t get enough exposure?
this dvd is very hard to find, so glad you shared this part of it..does anyone know where a dvd can be purchased of this concert?
Andy is super awesome guitarist!
I'm covering amazing EC tunes on my channel!
No way could you dislike this...
クラプトンってサポートで弾いている時のギターが光るよね。
これもそうだしボブディランの後ろで弾いていた時も良かった。
Very tasty
But Eric knows the 12 bar blues
Listen to Roy Buchanan and come back to me
Yeah, there's a whole show around in DVD quality, sourced from a Japan TV broadcast.
The song now most usually called "Gin House" or "Gin House Blues" - with the opening lines "Stay away from me 'cause I'm in my sin / If this place gets raided, it's just me and my gin..." was originally entitled "Me and My Gin", and was recorded by Bessie Smith on 25 August 1928 It was written by "Harry Burke", which may be a pseudonym of the pianist and songwriter James C. Johnson. It is this song which has been recorded by many musicians over the years under the title "Gin House Blues"
@slunky08 Clapton is a great silde player..
Back again #nYc2022
What a powerfull guitar have Clapton!
Phew, that was... (there just aren't superlatives enough to do it justice).
As a life long Clapton fan, this is some of the best playing I've ever seen this man do...period. And AFL is an absolute treat for the ears!!
Perfect for my ears !!!
I dig it, but where did the two thumbs come from? Those who have heard Nina Simone doing this tune. Clapton is the man, but if you want to hear some true Chicago blues style shredding, look towards Johnny Winter (and Bob Margolin, he's rock solid) playing with Muddy and maybe even James Cotton. No disrespect to the man, hell, he even paid homage to Johnson in a fantastic album/dvd, but still, delve deeper, you'll thank yourself ;) Search for "I'm ready," by Muddy for more a taste of Gin.
Just curious - does anybody know what brand of shoes Eric is wearing?
Just love this groove 👌 today’s my 57th birthday 🥳 and two weeks ago I bought my first guitar and had my first lesson 🤟 Slow Hand and his pals are my inspiration 👏👏 here’s to an old blues rocker 😆
Dan, good luck with the guitar. I’ve been playing on and off for 50 odd years and the guitar has been my friend through good times and bad.
@@davidbrown5152 thanks mate, I know it’ll drive me crazy early on but sure the pain in my ears will be worth it 😆
