Jeanne: And, also on copper, as in the old antique copper teapots. On a plate sprinkle a good amount of table salt so that there is a "bed" of salt. Next, roll the lemon on the kitchen counter using pressure to soften it. Cut the lemon in half, and rub the lemon half in the salt bed. Keep rubbing...sooner or later the lemon and salt will begin to wear away the patena and dirt build up. I used this method twice back in the late 1950's and into the early '60's to clean my small collection of all pure copper teapots...one of which is dated 1889, England. It was a very hard chore back then and I'm pretty sure there are products that would ease up for the hands and wrists in today's world. The method I gave above is what I saw live on a local TV show in the early 1980s Good luck cleaning your copper for the Holiday.
Stainless steel sinks and stoves tops can be cleaned with baking soda. Baking soda is inexpensive and replaces comet or ajax powdered cleaner and chemically safer.
I use only water to clean my floors. It works great and leaves no streaks or residue.Oh,and if you have a swiffer you don't need to buy sheets. Old socks work great for cobwebs or dust bunnies and you can use any cloth moistened and stuck on onto the swiffer for floor cleaning.
Great tips! I have found though that using Future on lenolium floors is better than regular floor wax. It's an acrylic. It doesn't yellow, floors can be washed easily with a very light soap solution, and you never have to try to get it off with ammonia, which will take the finish right off the lenolium. If that has already happened, that can be rectified with Future as well. JMO Retired long time housekeeper.
You can also mix dawn with white vinegar [about 1 portion of dawn to every 2 portions of vinegar]. warm them in a saucepan or in your microwave for a few second just so the vinegar will combine with the dawn. Put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray your shower doors, tiles, etc. and leave on for 15-30 minutes, then just wipe it off! All those water stains will slide away! You can also clean your burner covers with this mix by spraying them with the mixture and putting them in a plastic bag over night. Hope that helps someone. :) Learned it on RUclips!
I'm a huge dawn and vinegar user! It gets everything in my bathroom so shiny! I don't bother heating the mixture though.... doesn't seem to make a difference.
I'm definitely doing the rug cleaning on the next hot days here in the UK. The black mould solution works. Nothing beats bleach solution in a spray bottle

Wow. It literally melts grease and build up, like seriously melts, and then simply wipe away (i use the Norwex cleaning rags) The way I see it , Work Smarter Not Harder LOL now cleaning is actually fun again! I'm afraid of going crazy during steam cleaning everything i can get my hands on all around the house!
I purchased a small steamer just for cleaning. It works great on kids toys, stuff animalls and pillows too (just don't saturate them and keep at least 6 inches away from cloth surfaces)
Vinegar baking soda and lemon! Winning combo for cleaning. Drains baking soda add vinegar after all baking soda is done foaming run hot water for a minute or two. Slow drains? Leave baking soda and vinegar work the drain for an hour then hot boiling water down the drain will clear it. Repeat if necessary! Easy Peasy!
These are actually great tips! I've watched a few of Jansen's DIY videos now and tried a bunch of the hacks. I'm so happy with the results. So many DIY hack videos out there that are not only useless, but sometimes dangerous, that I was skeptical but this is awesome. Nice to find legit hacks and tips that work well and are safe to use in my home.
Cleaners are lovely to have; however, many things need cleaning that a service will not do without an extra charge or not at all. Cleaning bedding, crevices, mold,...come to mind.
Just tried the lemons in the microwave trick!! So easy it cleaned everything out and left a lemony scent, trying it with my toaster oven now and in my conventional oven.
@@thatgirl3757 I was just looking to see if someone had said this. I wonder where this myth arose that you need the lemons to clean the microwave, all they do is make it smell nice. It's the steam that does it so make a lemon drizzle cake instead and that smells just as good and tastes great too.

Some very good tips. For me, the best is using a seam ripper to get hair, etc. out of the vacuum beater brush! I’ll have to try the “Magic Scrubber” sponges on my oven door/window. I saw a video that recommended using baking soda & vinegar, but it didn’t touch the mess on the window & inner door frame. my husband dropped a frozen pizza while putting it in the preheated oven and it landed upside down on the glass. It was way too hot to try to wipe it off, so he went ahead with baking, and further baked on the pizza cheese! I have yet to find a “best” way to get it clean!

Any stagnant odors that permeate a space can be neutralized by heating or microwaving a cup of vinegar till it boils then place it in the smelly area till the odor is eliminated or the vinegar evaporates. A hot plate is best for boiling a small pot in the desired area so your not running back & forth to the kitchen to reheat the vinegar
RUclips said this video recommended people to watch my fall kitchen cleaning video so I had to come check you out. I’m saving this video for sure. It’s full of useful information. Thanks for sharing!!
The easiest way I've found to clean water stains from a glass door is to soak a Bounce towel in water and rub it down. The glass will turn milky. Then use a damp sponge to wipe the milky film away. Finish with some glass cleaner. It will blow you away at how easy it removes the water spots. This isn't a joke...it really works.
Great video! In order to keep mold/ mildew from developing in shower take a squeegee and remove as much water as you can from the walls. Then take a fan and let it blow on the shower liner for at least 20 mins. Liner dries and the remaining moisture on the walls will dry!
At 21:43, the cleaning solution is called TSP, Tri Sodium Phosphate, not tsp as in a measuring unit.TSP is used to clean, it is actually a light abrasive cleaner, strips the dirt off the item you are cleaning a little, allowing you to repaint, giving the surface a texture for paint to adhere to. If you use TSP, use the red label and hot water, then rinse, the red label won't make you work as hard in scrubbing. Be sure to rinse after washing with TSP.
I was really impressed with your video! Great natural solutions, some of which I’ve used before but a good number that were new for me. Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to compile all this info into a single video which I’m definitely saving!!
The comments on here are hilarious. I use both bleach and vinegar, baking soda, and blue Dawn (edit to comment..... my point was as a disinfectant I have used both bleach and vinegar but never together. I was going based on the comments comparing one to the other.) There are many ways to clean. It’s up to each individual to do what works for them. To tell the author of this video that they need to do research on chemicals is funny to me. It’s my responsibility to research and not do everything that I see. Everyone doesn’t have the same hang ups. Adding to the information base is fine but when you tell someone that they need to update their information because it’s not your preferred method is just rude. Make your own video if your convictions are that strong. Lol Come on folks. Let’s make a conscious effort to share positive thoughts and comments and not tear others down because their ideas are different. After all, isn’t it the differences in us that makes us unique and an individual.
So true! It also seems each generation has a “guru” per se on basic things and them presenting old tried and true methods or products as if they just made some brand new discovery,or have just invented the wheel! If a person’s own generation guru says something is true, then it has to be gospel, right?! Oh well..
Maybe people are just sharing information they would have liked for someone to share with them sooner. After all, there are just so many hours in a day... and thousands of consumer products, and other things in life, to research.
I tried the half-grapefruit dipped in salt trick and it worked great on my tub after a lengthy illness and getting behind on my housework. Smelled very nice afterwards, too.
I am a complete neat freak and I love the smell of bleach. That said, you have to be careful because bleach can damage certain types of countertops and even finishes on your tub and toilet seat. Stainless steel cleaner is great but do not get it on glass, especially tinted and porcelain. Before you wipe down your couch make sure you can use water based cleaners on the fabric.
D William I hope you wear a face mask being that you enjoy the smell of bleach, the chlorine can be a bit harmful. see healthline.com symptoms of chlorine poising. #BECLEAN #BESAFE💖
The best and easiest way to clean oil up on your garage floor or driveway is dawn dish detergent. Cover the spot with Dawn, let it sit for about ten or fifteen minutes, then spray with a hose. It was like magic. The oil just disappeared. Jean from Arizona
Chelsea Hill Hose ❗ This landlord I'm assuming , took the water outlet so there is no Hook Up . I just moved here but the people that were here didn't complain , Huh ❗❗😲 You need that ❗ Geezzzz , cheap O and Lazy 😒 SMH ❗
You are still spraying oil into the drains in the streets. Just dump cheap cat litter over or shredded newspapers it to let it soak up for awhile then sweep it up and place into a seperate trashbag.

If it goes into the storm drains, it usually goes into the local creeks. This is not okay. If you understand that it will kill your grass, just extend that out to what it will do to the creeks and surrounding areas.
BTW, just tried the mineral oil on the range hood and it worked! Thank you!!! I would have preferred to get it totally de-greased, but your point about it being easier to clean later if you leave a thin film of oil on it is good. There is no way to keep it from getting oily, so might as well make the oil clean. 7:37

I really like and appreciate your hints for a clean home. I wouldn’t, however, use toilet bowl cleaner on my grout. It could be toxic for pets or children. I use peroxide and baking soda., and rinse well. Much less toxic than all those chemicals.
I’ve filled our bath tub with hot water and bleach and put the shower head (it’s on a hose) into the bleach water overnight. I’ve used your tip with the coil and bleach. It works great
I don’t know if this is good for your granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances or not but I know it doesn’t harm them and works beautifully. If your stuff is grimy, clean as usual. Otherwise you can just wipe down with original lemon pledge. I loved the shine and glossy smooth feel it gave my counter tops and fridge.
Could you clarify one thing when sprinkling baking soda on your couch? Do you vacuum the baking soda off then wipe with cloth and homemade cleaner? Or do you spray the liquid cleaning cocktail over the sprinkling of baking soda? Thanks for any clarification on this point.
You know, if you clean your toilets weekly, there will be no need to do all this extra work. The extra work is needed due to not cleaning them on a regular basis. I use bleach toilet bowl cleaner and squirt all around the upper portion of the toilet bowls weekly and then scrub with a brush. Same thing goes for the microwave. Cover your dish and you won't have splashes. If you do, wipe immediately and don't let it build up. So much time and energy can be saved by just cleaning after yourself daily.
I do my toilet every couple of days (2men in my house!) I wipe my sinks around after every use, so no water stains there, using bicarbonate (baking soda in US) if they get soap scum on them. This way, as you say, they don’t need a ‘big clean’. Having said that, a lot of the young ones have never been taught to clean in ANY way, so these vids are brilliant for those ones...
@@hallelujah8141 Very true! These videos are certainly helpful! And, also, we all have different standards. What's clean to some may not be clean to others. I dust, vacuum, and mop every week. I was once called lazy because I have an irobot that does all the "swiffering" for me. I have no carpet in my house, so I must swiffer, then I vacuum, and then I mop. The robot has saved me a lot of time. It picks up all the loose hair and dirt that the eye would miss. They thought I just let the robot do everything and I was sitting on my a$$. But...they don't even do half the cleaning I do. When they learned I was dusting my furniture and wiping down mirrors and framed pictures while my robot was swiffering, they gasped. They call that "deep cleaning". I call it weekly cleaning. Deep cleaning to me is when I scrub the grout on my kitchen floor and bathroom floors, which is not something I do weekly. But I was raised to clean properly and regularly. Different standards.
Wow, that was comprehensive! Some of those things I would never even have thought to clean!! So cool to know how to use tools and cleaning agents in an effective and efficient way. It almost makes cleaning look kind of fun!
Generally good tips that are worth trying out. For tip 40, "1/4 to 1/2 cup of TSP per gallon" (trisodium phosphate) was incorrectly presented as being "1/4 to 1/2 cup of teaspoon per gallon".
The secret to tubs and showers is cleaning them after each use. It sounds way harder than it is. I keep a microfiber cloth and bottle of bleach *gel* (with precision nozzle) in a small shelf set in my bathroom. I can be in the shower with the water running and run the bleach gel over the caulking and do a quick wipe of the tiles or tub. Takes 60 seconds and i don’t have to scrub or wipe every single surface since it will get wiped again tomorrow. Wring the cloth well after each use, then throw the cloth in the wash once a week (it stays sanitized due to the bleach.) I never have mold in the caulking or a mildew ring anymore, and I don’t need to do a deep cleaning on my hands and needs once a week like I used to. Learned this by watching a video on Japanese culture where it’s common to clean the tub after every use and now I can never go back!
so dangerous.... Bleach is toxic; bad to breathe or get near your skin..also bad for the environment! I agree that cleaning after each use is the best way to keep things clean. I disagree with the use of bleach.
Lemon Pledge furniture polish takes hard water debris off glass shower doors instantly and keeps the debris from accumulating again. And you can't beat that shine when you rub it in. Not to mention the lemon smell, mmm!
Skip all these cleaners. Get blue dawn and eraser sponge ( dollar store or walmart brand work fine) ...Use it to shine all faucets, your tub will glow, add a small amount of bleach if you have mold or need to disinfect. Vinager and water for mirrors or polishing chrome. That is all you need. I use blue dawn and eraser sponge to clean everything it's better than any other cleaner. Stopped up toilet simply pour a 1/2 cup dawn don't swish just flush before going to bed. Next morning a couple of flushes and it's clear. The dawn makes the paper, hair whatever slippery an it disolves other stuff so it goes right through. Stopped up drain? Pour dry baking soda in drain and then add a couple of tablespoons of vinager, just it an hour and rinse it down. Dawn, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, vinager and eraser sponges are my cleaning supplies. Natural and clean gentle and leave it shinning.
Good tips! Except those eraser sponges are not natural. Old towels and old t-shirts work fine.
HOLY HELL! We have crazy hard water here in Bavaria, Germany and all the faucets and the like look like they haven't been cleaned in years even though I scrub them thoroughly twice a week with special anti chalk residue cleaner. The vinegar tip worked, everything looks brand new!
Back. Worked pretty well, though I'm dealing with some really old hard water buildup around bathroom taps. Used old toothbrush with some toothpaste to attack the rest that didn't come off easily but some most certainly came away with just a wipe. Rating: Fairly successful but will need repeat treatments.
After showering, I have found that simply wiping down all parts of the inside of your shower with clean water from the shower and your wash rag keeps the soap scum and buildup to a minimum. Use a squeegee after if desired. This routine is much kinder to all the finishes. Cleaning with any actual product becomes a rarer and rarer necessity.
Thank you so very much for your help I love to clean but some things are hard to clean do way I clean you give me good ideas we use to say live and learn and you are never to old to learn God bless you my friend. Cid
About bleach: I had a good brand and bought a cheap brand to try out. The left side I let the good brand soak in all night, and on the right side I used the cheap one. This convinced me to never ever buy a cheap brand again, cause it simply didn't do it's job right. Such a difference.
Thank you for these tips, they are ace! I’ve just reclaimed my flat from tenants who left it in an unbelievable state after only 18 months. It has traumatised me! Step by step I am getting it back to its glory, but oh my! What a mess it was!

I found clay cat litter on oil stains on my drive way asorbs the oil over night then spray with the holes to remove the litter the drive way comes clean.
These "natural" products are great if you already keep your house clean, but you have to scrub and scrub - very hard work, if you don't clean regularly. Bleach is the perfect way to get rid of mold and mildew stains, but should never be used with any other cleaner because of the toxic fumes that result.
Patti Neal that’s right! bleach & windex to me, are the best. All the “natural” stuff creates extra muck & mess, you have you work 5x harder to remove it, so of course people think it’s effective in cleaning house! It better be after all that time & effort. Lol
Be careful with the vinegar though as that could eventually loosen the faucet rubber seals. Try to wrap some plastic cling wrap around the base so there is no or minimal contact with the seeping vinegar.
....I have always cleaned my rugs outside,... using either Dawn dish soap, mixed with baking soda and very warm or hot water... doesn't take a lot of this mixture. Rinse well with pressure setting on hose attachment. I then pour diluted white vinegar then rinse , hang to dry over a sturdy area ( I use blanket racks or a fence ) . You can also use Folex , which requires no " last water rinse ", and takes out everything. I actually clean my lamp shades ( unless they are really fancy ) in the bath tub, I just spray lightly with a mild cleaner, ( vacuum first if lots of stuff on it ) and use warm water with the shower hose on a gentle setting. Works beautifully. ( you don't use the bathtub to soak them or anything. Just to spray the mild cleaner and rinse with very warm water . ,)

All these people afraid of Bleach! Too funny. My great grandmother used bleach for everything! Even washing the dishes because they had very little hot water! (used lard for cooking too!) She lived to be 103!
Bleach is terrible for our planet, creatures and us! There is now no water anywhere that doesn't have traces of bleach :( There is a kind of bleach that is "safe" but no major bleach manufacturer will produce it because they think it is too expensive...how expensive is it when our water and land our becoming more and more toxic?
Goid grief . all these people saying not to use bleach are ill informed. Most have sence enough not to mix it with amonia. Grat cleaner and disinfectant. My mom Nd granparents used it before me and never had problems. Just use your brain and open a windo if you are worried
On the back of the bottle it says to open windows when using it. Must have ventilation. White distilled vinegar dissenfects also. It has to sit for 10 minutes just like bleach.

Tip for shower door tracks: Rip them the hell out and get rid of those germy, ugly doors! Use a simple cloth curtain you can WASH. You do not need a "liner". Liners are dirty & entirely not-needed!
Actually I need a liner, I have the cloth shower curtain on the outside of the tub, and if I don't have a liner on the inside water leaks all over the floor.
I used vinegar and tied it around the shower head and it took the protective coating off the showerhead and now I have to constantly clean the brass. We learn by our mistakes.

I have found though that using Future on lenolium floors is better than regular floor wax. It's an acrylic. It doesn't yellow, floors can be washed easily with a very light soap solution, and you never have to try to get it off with ammonia, which will take the finish right off the lenolium.

Easy Peasy!

WHAT'S A SEAM RIPPER???

Any stagnant odors that permeate a space can be neutralized by heating or microwaving a cup of vinegar till it boils then place it in the smelly area till the odor is eliminated or the vinegar evaporates. A hot plate is best for boiling a small pot in the desired area so your not running back & forth to the kitchen to reheat the vinegar

Thanks for the info!
It's because they are using text to voice....it must have mistaken TSP for teaspoon

Love your comment and your perspective! Personal Responsibility.....pass it on 👍

Please be mindful of where all this waste water goes after cleaning and either adjust your formulas to be non-toxic or add proper disposal tips to the instructions.

For tip 40, "1/4 to 1/2 cup of TSP per gallon" (trisodium phosphate) was incorrectly presented as being "1/4 to 1/2 cup of teaspoon per gallon".

Thank you so much for sharing all these awesome cleaning tips that we need at this time in our lives thank you again my awesome friend

These "natural" products are great if you already keep your house clean, but you have to scrub and scrub - very hard work, if you don't clean regularly. Bleach is the perfect way to get rid of mold and mildew stains, but should never be used with any other cleaner because of the toxic fumes that result.
Bleach on mold creates a toxic combination. Vinegar is safer.
All the best.
Patti Neal that’s right! bleach & windex to me, are the best. All the “natural” stuff creates extra muck & mess, you have you work 5x harder to remove it, so of course people think it’s effective in cleaning house! It better be after all that time & effort. Lol

....I have always cleaned my rugs outside,... using either Dawn dish soap, mixed with baking soda and very warm or hot water... doesn't take a lot of this mixture.
Just to spray the mild cleaner and rinse with very warm water . ,)

In Tropical North Queensland we get a lot of mould and to get rid of mould permanently we use water with added cup of cleaning white vinegar and a couple of teaspoons of eucalyptus oil to wash surfaces down THEN take a damp cloth and add clove oil or clove bud oil and rub over the surfaces. Clove oil is the best way to get rid of mould spores permanently and is pretty cheap. Bleach is only a temporary not a permanent solution.
Hello how are you doing and where are you from?
Tip for shower door tracks: Rip them the hell out and get rid of those germy, ugly doors! Use a simple cloth curtain you can WASH. You do not need a "liner". Liners are dirty & entirely not-needed!
Actually I need a liner, I have the cloth shower curtain on the outside of the tub, and if I don't have a liner on the inside water leaks all over the floor.
Awesome cleaning tips, thank you!
I used vinegar and tied it around the shower head and it took the protective coating off the showerhead and now I have to constantly clean the brass. We learn by our mistakes.
That's because this woman isn't educated in chemistry, nor an expert, and is giving dangeeous amateur advice to people who have forgotten that most youtube advice is just amateur. Sorry you had to find that out after damage... much of her advice is gonna hurt people, as well as its environmental impact, too! Before any of you follow her example... please, call your local poison control and ask about all of it! And ask your city about their fugitive water ordinances!
Wow, love your channel!
The problem with #18 is that using a "tape" lint roller will leave a slight residue of adhesive, which will then attract/keep more dust. Tape rollers should only be used on items that can be thrown in the wash (to remove the adhesive residue).
Yes!! Theres easier ways
I wish there were alternatives to bleach and ammonia listed. Many chemicals are so harsh, especially if living where there's little ventilation.
A.C vinegar..salt...dish soap are all mentioned in comments!
For alternatives to bleach/ammonia.
Thank me later!
