This is really helpful, thanks! I don't know why it never occurred to me that you could do this - I'm so used to carrying floats in a very similar way when I'm knitting stripes, but it just never occurred to me that you could do the same when weaving. I just love that triple check houndstooth scarf, it's stunning. Definitely on my to-make list!
I had watched this video in the past and I think I had failed to realize that you were using this technique AS A FLOATING SELVEDGE. I know you said you were treating the additional wefts like a floating selvedge but didn't internalize that you could utilize this INSTEAD OF a floating selvedge. I have a 3 shuttle weave on the loom now and I'm definitely going to try this. Thanks!
Hi, do you know which weaving width loom to get for weaving all sizes (all widths) of baby wrap? 80cm, 90cm or 100cm? I saw that the maximum width of a baby wrap is 76cm but I think I need to include fabric shrinkage possibility in the calculation, right? Thanks.
Yes, you would need to figure out how much shrinkage/take up is common for your yarn and then do your calculations. I believe I wove a baby wrap and needed it to be at least 28” wide. I believe I ended up making my cloth something like 32” in the reed to accommodate for the shrinkage. My memory is fading (it’s been almost 5 years since I wove a baby wrap) but I remember weaving my wrap on a 110cm loom but I didn’t use the full width. Good luck!!
Thanks Tonie! Honestly I started multishaft weaving with a 4-shaft Leclerc Dorothy table loom. It’s something that is sturdy and very functional. It even folds up a little bit to save space and makes it a little more portable. And you can very often find these looms (used) on Craigslist or Kijiji and they are generally pretty budget friendly. It’s a great loom that serves as a entryway into multishaft weaving. 💗

Aww thanks so much Kayla! Thanks for watching.
I just bought a rigid heddle loom . This is a great technique. Thanks for sharing.
Great!! Enjoy your new loom!

Such beautiful fabrics.
I do about the same but have never used three shuttles at the same time.
Good technique think I get it but visually the dark navy or blue was a little hard to visualize today. Thanks.
Thanks Susan! I appreciate the feedback! I’m making another houndstooth video for rigid heddle and will choose some higher contrast colours ☺️
