Looking at their body language throughout this clip just drives home again how amazing Sam is at what he does

The Zoe Kazan interview is one of the better interviews on his show.
I love how she is holding herself like she is comforting herself as she is being vulnerable. Introverts, we roll differently.

Loved the whole interview and especially this session. The way I see it she distinguishes the work (acting) from the industry and that seems very important and valuable to me, because you can simultaneously love the job and be very good at it while feeling disconected from the habits, expectations and pace of the industry; and that applies not only for artists but for so many other professional fields, mine included. It’s a very interesting perception and I’m thankfull for being able to revisit the interview from time to time.
Its interesting, Mia Wasikowka said basically the same things about the acting profession. I think a lot of people see the glitz and Glamour of hollywood and want to be part of that, but when they do actually gain entry so to speak, they realise its not what they thought it would be. Which can be soul destroying.

@@VeeLondon1449 Her grandfather was an absolutely brilliant director and a very flawed man. But I am tired of connected people telling us how hard they worked, and how they saved their pennies. It is so tone-deaf. I know people love to hate Gwynth but she at least is honest - she has talked about winning the lottery at birth.

This guys is the perfect interviewer. He's not a wannabe like so many, he's not obnoxious. He doesn't overtalk his guests. He listens and know when to shut the fuck up

IN YOUR EYES was an incredible film, and she amazing in it. My favorite from this actress.

I first saw the huge gulf between the work of acting and the profession when watching Robert DeNiro squirm through an interview while sitting next to a quite comfortable Meryl Streep. Just because you excel at acting doesn't mean you excel at sitting in front of a camera as yourself, answering questions from strangers that would be hella rude in any other situation. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Acting is a great job if you can get it: stand there, wear this, say that, but it is hard profession because you are so dependent on other people to create work for you. Stringing together a career is tough.
You can create your own work though. You can write a screenplay or short story. Look at sly stallone, Ben affleck and matt Damon, they created work for themselves.

Wow a real interview. Rare.
She seems to be have raised and loved right. She has a great head on her shoulder. I am fame of her character.
I really like Zoe Kaz as an actress, and I know that Hollywood (not just acting) can come with ridiculous requirements/pressures. My only question is, does the love of acting overweigh the undesirable/miserable aspects of the business? Because while it does pay well, and it being the passion of many, are the downsides really worth it? If you don't want your child to go into acting, you still being in the business will only encourage them to step into it. Cameron Diaz, and many others made the decisions to quit, but its not always easy of course.
Anyway, lovely interview, looking forward to more stuff Zoe Kaz will be in! Keep it up Sam.
Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't. And it varies day to day, season to season. And boy, I hate to break it to you, but it pays shit for 99% of us.
Business always comes in the way so yeah it can be a pain in the ass goin thru

Here’s the real question, should we actually discourage young females who want to act or should we work on dismantling and remaking the system that has kept older stories less desirable and women oppressed?
The previous system is already dismantled, we are already in the new system. Crazy how we don’t have utopia yet.
we all hate our professions because most of them shouldnt even exist. But we dont mind the actual job and people we work with each day.

what people in the entertainment industry fail to understand, we “regular” people are also on a treadmill. We aren’t promoted, we have office politics, typically people in leadership are inept…they’re risen beyond their ability to be successful at that level, the Peter Principal….but we usually don’t get paid as well. I know not all actors have financial success…bif you have some fame you have access to things regular people do not,
It’s all high school, there is always a treadmill, no one is better than you….they just organized and planned their life better.
Parents projecting their own fears onto their kids and then not supporting them... great way to kill a deep relationship.

Is it really any different from any profession tho? Everything I've ever done would be wonderful if not for the litany of downsides that complicate it from pay to working conditions...everything is riddled with costs. The more desirable the job, the more the downsides, in terms of cost of chasing that profession. Such is life as a human, I'd think.

Not really, because not everyone's livelihood is based upon other people deeming them attractive enough to act in a film.
It's a really hard life unlike battling a blazing inferno or chasing dangerous criminals

Why. so serious? Really, just enjoy your career. She got in with the support of her parents, so kinda lucky (imo) while others are truly struggling to even get one gig. Dance is a harder profession. Ballet is tough. Acting, if your a B actor pay a sh*zzton more. So really, if you don't truly "enjoy" it, don't do it. Maybe take more independent gigs. Glad she's speaking out about women but now-a-days it IS changing. Directors don't get too far with a certain attitude. The script-writing (at least what we've all watched on Netflix) has definitely improved. So no, actors/ actresses today aren't all miserable- just find your niche.

@Robert Slack she’s going to break away and become an actor and not a screen writer or director like her parents or her famous grandfather because being an actress is so hard and all her actress friends are miserable and she paid for her acting lessons and blah blah blah.
