@koo mug I have no idea how she "flies under the radar." I just watched her in the 6 hour HBO series, "The Plot Against America." Zoe Kazan was perfection in her role in a manner I had never seen before. During the first half of the series, she has to play a supporting character to help define the other actors define their characters, but, then as the series progresses towards it's climax, she has to expand her character's role/depth, as it becomes the leading character. You have to see it to believe it. Unmatched
@@jackm4457 i think her being not so star conscious is reason why shes not that popular. She doesnt advertise herself well enough and maybe she doesnt have a good agent who promotes her
@@koomugtoo Zoe is not conventionally beautiful, in a "celebrity" sort of way. So, I get it. Of course she's a very talented actress who can play "sexy," but she's also willing to play roles where she's mousy and unattractive. The good thing about not being a "Hollywood sex symbol," is that her best roles still lie ahead of her.
Oh my gosh, this young person here truly understands some valuable things, and just communicated here beautifully. Not sure what relation she is to the late great Elia, but his deeply felt humanity lives in her for sure. Anyway, wow, I’m glad I saw this one.
I think she means she stopped chasing this preconceived idea of what it means to be successful, like money or notoriety, to focus on making work that you feel fulfilled in or challenged by. To strive to grow and become better rather than more famous or richer.
Its referring to dangling a carrot in front of someone. In cartoons, the carrot is tied to a stick and dangled in front of someone. The person keeps trying to grasp the carrot but it is always pulled out of reach before they can grab hold of it. Its a metaphor for chasing after something that will never be attainable (it will always be out of your grasp). So in the example that Kazan is talking about, the "carrot" is happiness. She keeps chasing after it thinking that if she does "this' she will finally get the carrot, or if she achieves "that" she will finally have the carrot, but it is always out of grasp.
The thing is artists are usually labelled or judged when they develop a project, and GG is really far from what I've seen of Zoe's. Roles might give actors notoriety, but sometimes a character version presented on screen is perceived as the only one existing in an actor's repertoire, which is uninteresting. Then, according to the charcater's depth and backstory the interpreter might be stigmatized, which can be a hard thing to get rid of. Now, would it be better to be known as a "superficial" teenager from a cute romantic comedy, or the new Hollywood sensation in a drama movie? Inevitably, certain roles and movie genre are, artistically speaking, either valued or disregarded by the critics and the public. At the end of the day I must agree that GG kind of sucks, even though it can be entertaining. It's the kind of show that gives its cast a lot of visibility, but not much credibility. Blake Lively, for example, gained recognition after working in different roles and she came a long way to prove herself talented. Thus, I think Zoe did good when she became aware of which types of projects she wanted to get involved with, because they tell a lot of who she is as an actress. It is only fair to say that if you are at risk of being labelled, than let it be something accurate or that you value. (Sorry for exceeding myself, this is just my take on the matter.)
Blake Lively is the pretty much the only one with a career after that. Zoe got to work with Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock etc, things she wouldn't have been able to do had she done GG. The only problem with shows on the CW etc is most actors maybe about 85% don't have very strong careers afterwards, they end up too type cast and that's it. Like who from the OC still has a good acting career? or any other off-air CW show.
One's Saturn's-return is an astrological concept. Every 27(ish) years, Saturn cycles around(ish) Earth, and astrologically-inclined folk like to think of it as an endpoint of adolescence(ish), during which one goes mildly nuts, eventually resulting in a general solidification of self (lots of vagaries in astrology). That's my recollection, anyway (I'm not gonna look this up). From a maturation-psychology standpoint, I think it's understandable to have an overwhelming, adulthood-driven anxiety crisis around the,. I kinda regret leaving this comment, but to me it just looks like more correlation/causation confusion -- grasping a straws for supernatural answers to better explain the human condition (I sympathize, but it's stupid). Why did I just waste so much time on this? -Guess I'll do a lot to implement excessive hyphenation...
Man these are some of the best interviews ever

She's not a gossip girl. She's a wisdom girl.
SPOT ON! This realization is everything! Also, I love Zoe! Sam, you're so great!
Gosh I love this channel.
I keep coming back to this clip again and again throughout the years. Such wise words.

Zoe Kazan is the most underrated actress. A real actress, not a star.

"Trying to make.. umm.. the universe give me what I think I deserve", awesome quote!!!
she is lovely in every way.
Blake Lively is the only one who came out of gossip girl with a career. So she's right.
So penn badgley just doesn’t exist??😂😂😂😂 he’s stars in one of the biggest Netflix show currently
@@azizyussuf5759 Chace Crawford too is starring in The Boys, which is a really good show! I think the main cast works a lot.
Ilaria exactly

How refreshing to see someone who is this smart

Profound!

Very moving
Sounds like someone has been reading Mark Manson's work...
Who?
love this.
Who is Zoe Kazan ? lol
Impressive young woman.
I'm not quite sure understood the carrot of success. What's she trying to describe? Regards,

Once I heard saturn returns, I was out
LOL
Because astrology is so much more ridiculous than believing in heaven.
on it
There is no happiness; only work.
what is wrong with gg i dont get it. blake lively and leighton meester are not complaining
That show sucks my guy

Something glitzy and devoid of quality.

I learned she's an atheist from this video. Cool.
If I were God I'd convince her I didn't exist so as not to take credit for the genetic abomination.
@@raygordonteacheschess5501 u ok bro?

Wow! From bold, respectable atheism to loopy, baseless astrology in two sentences! Dammit! --so close to respecting her beliefs, there
You make no sense, it is not clear what you mean
Saturn's return
I missed that completely, my fault
Hastings how was she saying that sentence? What does "when my Saturn returns" mean?
