- In the ‘90s, NBC had the youth market on lock on Saturday mornings with a variety of content geared towards the preteen and teen market. California Dreams was one of those shows included in their TNBC, or Teen NBC, programming block. Created by writers Brett Dewey and Ronald B. Solomon, who also served as producers, California Dreams premiered on September 12, 1992. It was executive produced by Peter Engel who also served as EP for the flagship TNBC series, Saved by the Bell.

I truly think the 90s was the last great decade for everything. Movies, music, fashion, shows, it was just all of higher quality. It’s sad what has become of entertainment today, but thank God for RUclips and streaming services. It brings us back to those simpler times.
Facts! I always say this. The 90s was the peak of creativity.
Agree.
I feel the same way we had the best of everything from movies to music to clothes. TGIF line up and shows like california dream etc
Absolutely
I miss not being shackled to a cell phone. Making plans or just going out and looking for a good time with friends. Not looking at this stupid phone all the time.
The theme song takes you back to such an effervescent time of chill, simple vibes of the 90s where less is more. The actors’ pleasant faces as the song plays, the relaxing beat the piano, the synthesizer, the harmonies- such a relaxing piece of art at the beginning of each episode. I love that sound you hear at the very end almost like waves hitting the shoreline.
@AmoMe2009 The Soundtrack CD is fantastic!🤗💽🙏🙋
@ShaeNik Hey that's really cool!
Yessss. My heart instantly melted when I heard those final chords of the song played again after decades. So magical.

I love California Dreams. They just had a reunion here in NYC last month!
Really? Is it posted online?
@@joeynova9896 I don't think so. Maybe some folks posted their performances online.
Damn I wish I would've knew
@@joeynova9896 Yes, it's true. They were all there except for Heidi Lenhart.
Aw man I’m in nyc I wish I knew!
I started rewatching this show about a month ago. I miss the innocence that was featured on TV back then.
Where did u rewatch it? Were all the episodes included?
@@tweetygirl818I think you can watch them all on here.
Where i can re watch?
Every episode is on RUclips. Some of the quality isn’t that great. I go back to it all the time. City Guys is also on here. California Dreams and City Guys are my favorite TNBC shows
They really need to put California Dreams on either Peacock, Tubi or even Pluto TV
Its on dvd
Justin-mv1ci not the final season
I loved that show back in the day. Thanks for posting this.
I remember this show from my childhood. I even remembered Jake and Tony before watching the video. This was a golden era for TV for young people. Saved By the Bell, City Guys, Clasrissa were all shows I still remember well after 25 years
I LOVED California Dreams, City Guys, and One World. Those three series aired right behind each other and it was AWESOME. Right after I finished watching my regular Fox Kids, Kids WB line up every Saturday mornings, I change the channel to TNBC to watch the final three shows I loved watching (California Dreams was still airing reruns - which were new to me - and I was able to watch new episodes of City Guys and One World. I remember having a HUGE crush on Lorena and Jenny. When Sly FINALLY got with Lorena, it was the best because Sly was also my favorite character. Man the good ol' days of the 90s early 2000s. I'm glad I grew up during those days.
The television series- City Guys, next? Tony (William James Jones) got a doctorate in clinical psychology and now is a star in his field. Dr Jones received his bachelor's degree in Psychology from Biola University, a master's degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University, and completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
From 2018-2020, Dr Jones has served as an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University, Azusa Pacific University, Antioch University, Santa Barbara, and Pacifica Graduate Institute, Santa Barbara. Dr Jones is a member of both the American Psychological Association (APA) and of the APA Division of Psychoanalysis. Dr Jones serves on the Board of Directors for Rose City Center, Pasadena and is the founder and C.E.O. of The Jones Psychology Group, Inc, a private practice specializing in integrative depth psychology.
Wow! I had no idea! Good for Dr. Jones! Much respect!
That's what's up. Good 4 him
I love these videos. I watched all of the teen shows of the 80s and 90s. I had forgotten all about this show until I saw the title. This brings back so many memories. I hate that network TV does not have nearly as much to offer young people today. It was truly a wonderful time to be a teen or preteen. Saved by the Bell, Hang Time, Sweet Valley High, Ghostwriter, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Kenan and Kel, All That, Sister Sister, Moesha, My Brother and Me, Smart Guy, Hanging with Mr. Cooper, One on One, A Different World, Family Matters, Boy Meets World, Thea, Full House, Step by Step, and so many others shaped my life in so many ways.
Great review. My sisters were fans of the show, so then I got into California Dreams, wish Peacock would put all of the TNBC shows on their streaming platform with all of the seasons.
Or reboot on Peacock bring back their Saturday mornings, also they can bring back City Guys and Hang Time co starring big time famous actor Anthony Anderson.
@@larrymarshall8900 Yes!!!! I have have been putting it out there for them to bring in City Guys, Hangtime, and One World.
@@Profess84I don't remember One World you have to refresh my memory on that show.
@@larrymarshall8900 It came it a bit later, it was about a foster family.
@larrymarshall8900 yes all of them. I have saved by the bell on dvd i need those 2 on dvd
I love this show. It came on after Saved By the Bell
Facts
💯💯💯
I was raised seventh day Adventist so I didn't see Saturday morning shows.... but this show was pure 90's...miss that era 😢
I used to love this show so much. I still sing the theme song to this day!
This was my show after Saved By The Bell and Hang Time
i defintely remember this show. I loved the intro song so much.
Loved this show! It was so underrated and Jay Anthony Franke is a dope person in real life. He is very active and communicative with his fans- just an all around genuine good person.
I've seen him on IG!!
Next to Saved By the Bell California Dreams was my favorite second show.🥰🥰 Fun Fact: Diana Uribe (Lorena actually auditioned to play Tejano star Selena. I know because I own the Selena movie DVDs and when they were talking about auditioning the different actresses I saw Diana in it.
I loved that actress, I only ever saw her again on an episode of a show called strong medicine and then her character dies lol 🥲
1 of my favorite shows after saved by the bell. I'm happy the chemistry was there & they all have gotten along after the show was canceled despite many cast changes
1992 was Pop's awkward teenage years...but life was so innocent and cool back then...now, we're just rude, obscene, materialistic and shallow as a culture.
Yup! ..you pretty much summed it up. 🏆
Totally agree 💯👍🏾
We were then too, see Buffy The Vampire Slayer 1992
Upcoming here goes Heartbreak High 1994.
I just came out of my mother's womb
I loved the show, I was 12 when it came on TV. I had forgot about the show until this morning, thanks to this video.
I went to their reunion concert William James Jones and Diana Uribe posted a picture of my California Dreams tattoo. Jay really sang at the reunion.
Thanks for doing this video after asking for viewer feedback! I wish you would've covered some of the storylines of the series, especially the ones involving Tony (the episode where he dates a white girl and the dad tries to buy him off with new equipment to stop dating her) or the time he has a project and had several black history themed flashbacks. Appreciate the new tidbits of info (I didn't realize they all reunited again so recently)!
This 💯
U forgot Tiffany and the steroids episode that was basically the caffeine pills episode of saved by the bell but done better in my opinion
I did forget that. She was wilding lol
One of the Top five 90s theme song. So much nostalgia
Facts!
I have totally forgotten about this show but could sing along with the theme song when you played it. Thanks for this 🎉
this ended right before the boy band craze, think it would’ve been bigger if it came out the same time. this, SBTB: New Class, City Guys, Hang Time, and One World. Teen NBC had hits
yes they did, tv sucks now.
TNBC was my shit growing up as a kid
Great time to be a teenager. I loved this show and the theme song. Never understood why the sister left after the first season because it was just weird. But still a good show.
Saved by the bell , California dreaming ,the guys next door and Saturday morning videos was my shit 🤩
This was my show!
I looovvvvved this show, still watch it occasionally 😊😊😊
Yes! I was waiting for this entry! Ty @JuicyPop!!! ❤❤❤
Oh the 90's! That's when you used to wake up early to watch your shows
I wish we could get a re-release of all the seasons on dvd or bluray. I have seasons 1&2 but it would be nice to get a box set of the whole series.
Its on RUclips full episodes
@@jonnyfendi2003 Not everyone wants to go digital. I'd rather have a hard copy.
Isn’t season 3 on DVD?
@EFunkRock i didnt know it was season 1 on dvd lol
There is a store called the exchange. They might have hard copies. If not they can order it from other stores. They are used but always in good condition. And they are cheaper than almost anybody.
As always...can't wait for the next "The Truth About/Behind" video!!😊😊❤❤
Please do City Guys next. Thank you.
Hell yeah I hope they do city guys
Kelly Packard also went on to star on Baywatch as April
She also was in Ripleys believe it or not as a co host with Dean Cain
So basically California Dreams was basically the Zack Attack/Friends Forever episode from SBTB as a whole spin off series.
but they could sing though lol
I LOVED this show back then! Definitely appreciate the updated info!
The thing with these shows, the all had a message, which doesn't exist in modern shows anymore.
There was always a moral story to the episode that you walked away from learning and then appreciating for how the person or people came around.
I use to love California Dreams and I had the biggest crush on Sly. I liked all the characters except Lorana. It was absolutely no need for her character.
Ditto! Sly was my jam too. And Lorena...yeah I definitely could have done without her.😂
@@JuicyPopEntertainmentshe was just eyecandy fr lol. Sly is still fine too.
@@JuicyPopEntertainment# both of them.
@@JuicyPopEntertainment3:11 yes.
My first celebrity crush was Samantha woo from the show and she did guest appearance on 2 shows back then on the nanny and family matters
"She's Not You" is still a jam
I Loved California Dreams! I really liked the theme song!
Hey juicy pop can you do Ghostwriter whenever I just remember that show growing up and I always wondered what happened really..❤😊😊
I remember watching this show, but didn't continually watching after its 1st season..Happy to hear the entire cast's doing well😊
Memory unlocked lol thank you
I watched the show back then and I watch it still to this day , fun times indeed !
That intro song is on point. 😎💯🔥
Oh, I thought I watched this in it's original run as a little kid, but based on the info from this video I learned that what I was watching had to be while it was in syndication. I still watched it on Saturdays, just not on NBC, and not in the early 90s. I loved the music and mishaps they got into.
MY Queen is back
Oh man…. I forgot about this show!!😂
This… Saved By The Bell, City Guys, Hang Time and USA HIgh were some great clean teen shows
Thanks for doing this! I think this show was also the TV debut of Nikki Cox, where she played a blind woman?
Juicy pop Fridays 🥳

@@JuicyPopEntertainment💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃nice 👍🙂.
Been waiting for this one
Ooohhhh gawddddd you brought me back me back to the good ol Saturdays. SBTB…CD…more to come I am sure. The kids today just don’t know.
This show is the reason I wanted to be in a band and sing!!! The theme song is amazing, sing it all the time!!! All the songs were great lol and I have the DVD of show 💜🫶🏾
I loved this show. I had nothing against the the songs and episodes post-Matt and Jenny. There were many great episodes and songs after they left the show, but I missed the show being a family sitcom, which I think stood out differently from Saved By The Bell besides being about a teenage band. I could care less what the critics said. Understandably the California Dreams was heavily compared to Saved By The Bell because it was Peter Engels 2nd show he produced. The trouble with producers is they think they always have the answers and make significant changes for everyone's good, but in fact make things worse. I think that is the reason why the critics did not receive the Dreams well because it was changed from a family sitcom to a more teen-focused sitcom similar to SBTB. I was shocked to hear Jake and Mark had singing voices. I was sure it was their own voices because this show was about a band which played and sang frequently and also produced CDs. Perhaps I was comparing this show to the Monkees and the Partridge Family. In other words lip-synching was permitted which is legal in some states and countries.
Straight nostalgia ❤
Thanks juicy pop, always enjoy your content
They just had another music reunion a few months ago in NYC!
That was my show back in the day 🥲🙌🏽
Fun fact: I have never seen a single episode of this show and now that I have watched this video I am grateful 😅
Hey there Juicy Pop! Happy Holidays my sister 😊
Happy Holidays! 🥳
@@JuicyPopEntertainment0:03 from you.
This show had a great theme song.
Every time I would see the actors in other roles, I know Kelly went on to Baywatch and William had guest roles all over there place, I'd always think of the California Dreams. I remember hearing about 7 years ago that William wanted to continue acting when CD ended, but found it hard to land another series. Glad to hear he's a Dr. now. I hope he is happy in his new career path. Michael was sorta type casted. Every time I saw him in other roles he sorta was still the character Sly.
Saw this show I was 8 in 1992 until I was 12 in 1996 on tnbc❤
Oh man, I used to love this show as a kid. Thanks for this video!
I loved that “Rain” song! 🙃🙃
Dennis Haskin crashes the dream reunion and says Hey Hey Hey What is going on here ? Oh Mr. B .
Ah! New information wasn’t included! Minus Jenny Garrison, the full cast including Matt Garrison/Brantley reunited in New York for a one-off in early October 2023! There are plenty of new interviews up on RUclips and IG Live where the casts provide more behind the scene details since the DVD Extra
I live for your videos❤ happy holidays
I know California Dreams was not as popular as Saved by the Bell, but I liked the show as well. Why California Dreams is not on the Peacock Steaming Service is a big mystery. California Dreams on Peacock would be better quality than the episodes on RUclips unofficially.
I loved this show !!! Growing up
Great story on California Dreams
Still have a copy of the Soundtrack CD and cassette!🤗🎧📻🎸
I do not remember this show but I am almost certain I watched it. The theme song is in my brain! 😮
Juicy Pop does a fantastic straight docu! Thanks so much!
I had such a crush on Sly as a kid.
My favorite “very special” episode is when Tiffany gets hooked on roids and pushes Sly lol
Whoa! I completely forgot about this show lol even though I watched it all the time
Great job 👍👍
California dreams thats my show along with city guys saved by the bell the new class and and one world man i miss tnbc
Love California dreams can you please do city guys love that show
mom & dad & little brother also disappeared too. i love that show.
Best 90s theme song ❤
Another show like Saved By The Bell that was an exercise in watching the 80s refuse to die. There was almost nothing of what we identify with the 90s in these shows, which isn't surprising, since they were written by grown men a decade behind the times. But there was still that period between 1990 and 1993 when you could still be pretty 80s and kids wouldn't notice. You can see the guys' jeans get bigger and bigger as time went on, as baggy pants became the norm. The one thing this particular show had that was actually en vogue at the time of its release was the token black guy who happened to be able to rap. Of course, he sounded about as street as Colin Powell, because white dudes wrote the scripts, but he rapped. That was his identity. Just like Italian guy was a wheeler-dealer, you've got your standard dorky white guy, and the bad boy guitarist with the dark, slicked back hair and the leather jacket. The girls have their own stereotypes. There's the valley girl Asian chick because it's California in the early 90s and suddenly token diversity is in, the sexy Latina and of course, the future Baywatch blonde. I remember thinking that adults knew nothing about what kids actually get up to. Either they act too much like adults or too much like toddlers. But I know all this because it was Saturday morning and aside from some sports shows on TSN and preparing for Hockey Night In Canada, there was jack all else on TV. Nothing a budding teenager who was done with cartoon would be into, anyway. Obviously, at that age, the only real reason to watch this stuff were all the teenage girls, hopefully in bikinis at some point. NBC's pre-teen lineup kind of puttered out after this. They had a few shows, but I don't remember them being "must see TV" like Saved By The Bell (which still cracks me up that it was so popular).
Now i'm thinking about S Club. Can you do a Retrospective on them. Their story is so sad
Tony Wicks was my man as kid. I wanted to be him. I tuned into it every Saturday for him.
ANOTHER AWESOME VID :)....I'M HOPING YOU CAN MAKE A VID,FOR ANOTHER SATURDAY MORNING CLASSIC(THAT DOES'NT GET ENOUGH LOVE) CALLED(THE GUY'S NEXT DOOR :)
Man, that theme song just takes me back to my childhood. 😢
That theme song ATE DOWWWNN
The show with the blonde headed Kelly kapowski. That’s how I remember it. Oh also back when California might have actually been a dream/cool. Not anymore !
Hey Juicy Pop..in addition of TV's shows..can you do in the future do some truth about reality shows and court shows as well!😊😊😊
Am I the only one who thinks Sly is a Tom Cruise impersonator?
I still love the California dreams I still watch it on RUclips since there is no official way to stream it unlike saved by the bell that has its own Roku channel and was on peacock for a while I even bought the soundtrack of the first season the only official soundtrack the only way to here full versions of season 2-5 songs was to find online downloads of the never made public anthology album given to the cast
Thanks for this video.
Would you do one on USA High. Although not TNBC, it was one of Peter’s. If I had to rank his shows that I watched, it would California Dreams, USA High, Saved by the Bell, Malibu, SBTB: College Years, Good morning Miss Bliss, SBTB: New Class.
We used to watch this show on TV Africa in Nigeria. Loved it, but I wish they'd left the siblings' parents.
How awesome it would be if this show was streaming, I had a huge crush on Lorena
This show got way too overshadow by the popularity of "Saved By The Bell"🤔😲
In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him- the dark rain clouds of the sky. Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. The Lord thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy, with great bolts of lightning he routed them. The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, Lord, at the blast of breath from your nostrils. He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
Psalms 18:6-19 NIV
I wonder if there were a battle between California Dreams, and Save By The Bell at the time; hmmm, I also wonder who came on top of popular TV sitcom (lol) - to tell you the truth, I didn’t know that “show” existed, until now…thanks⁉️‼️❗️👋🏻😯🤔😌👀📺😅😎🇨🇦💫👍🏻
I have never heard of this show😮😂
I didn't either. In the 90s my weekends were eaten up by school sports, homework, trouble, and music. We didn't have dvrs obviously. I only saw saved by the bell on reruns on TBS. I think I lucked out, this one doesn't seem as good. Not hating but it looks like a knock off but with music
