  • For many people, there’s only one standout moment from the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards that they remember. And that's Kanye West taking the mic from Taylor Swift, giving his now-infamous “Imma let you finish” tirade. But, that moment isn’t what this video is about. In this video, we’re reminiscing about another, also infamous, interruption of the night: when Lil Mama was feeling Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ rendition of “Empire State of Mind” so hard she just couldn’t help getting up on the stage herself and rocking out with them.

Do you know what is funny from what I heard it wasn’t Jay-Z or Alicia Keys who blacklisted her, it was just the industry that felt like she disrespected their code which basically you don’t try upstage someone and you don’t come on stage when you’re not called onto. And a lot of them didn’t wanna work with her due respect to Jay and A.

All the hate and bullying wasn't necessary. I mean people talk about security risk but nobody talks about other VMA performances where artists injured fans. BTW people never blackballed Ye for what he did to Taylor. It was too easy to blackball Lil Mama because she wasn't such a big star. Lil Mama was too excited and she couldn't contain herself. It wasn't a good idea to go on the stage but she was a young excited fan at the time. All the backlash was too much. Many times fans storm the stage and many artists handle it in a mature or in a fun way. Lil Mama still did good in her career though. She was a judge on ABDC and she does acting.

It's an unspoken rule that you should Never step onto another person's set while they are performing or rehearsing. Unfortunately, when you're that young, though, self-control isn't as strong. The backlash wasn't right, though. It takes a bigger person to let that incident slide, but the black community definitely left her out in the cold and the media well they love a scapegoat don't they. Seriously, other than the people who knew who she was before then, how many people were saying “yo put on some lil mama”? She stood to gain from this IF it went the way she wanted it to go. And had she not done this, only that chunk of ppl who were her fans would’ve ever known she ever made music.
I think she just threw a Hail Mary to give her career a boost and it backfired and now boo hoo poor me. Just my opinion. She stood to gain and no else.
