I don't have a Whirlpool, but I've got a Kenmore topload. I've paused my wash in mid-process to add another piece of clothing, and what I see is a barely-damp heap of clothes sitting just the way I first put them in. Often, the clothes on top of the heap aren't even fully damp. This video doesn't even talk about HOW the washer works (or doesn't), but just focuses on the detergent. The only way I can get my clothes clean now is to pause the wash and add about ten gallons of water. What a joke.
I bought this for the energy star rating. THE CENTENNIAL IS NOT AN ENERGY SAVER, IT IS AN ENERGY WASTER. Not only takes twice as long, but I always needs to use the extra rinse to get soap off clothes. Towels ALWAYS come out 'crunchy'. Sometimes I need a THIRD rinse. I have used Tide, Gain, pods, liquid, powder, full cap, half cap, 2 TB liquid, all HE with all the same result. Plus, every month I need to run a 'cleaning cycle'. THIS WASHER IS A RIP-OFF.
And then all the soap stays behind in your clothes and in the machine, then it rots and eats away at the metal in the machine. This is total non-sense. Max 1 tablespoon of HE soap per full load. Run machine empty (with hot water) or run cleaning cycle once every four weeks. Ignore all directions on bottles or box. They want you to buy a new machine every 5 years.
I have a Bosch HE Front Loading washer. My husband and I purchased it from Lowe's in 2007. I cloth diaper, so I had trouble getting our clothes clean. I have since found that adding extra water to my washer actually gets the clothes clean. I have been adding extra water to my washer for years. Just enough so the clothes are soaked but not swimming in water. I also use my own homemade laundry detergent (Fels Naptha, Borax, & Washing Soda) with white vinegar to rinse. It made a huge difference!

HE washers suck. They don't clean your clothes. I was a guest in a home w/ a HE washer for an extended period, and I've seen the results. Got back to my own home, ran clothing through regular washer only once, and my clothing was noticeably cleaner AND THOROUGHLY RINSED! The proof was the wash cloths. In HE, after wash, the wash cloth still held the Dove moisturizing shower gel fragrance and residue. One cycle through my own regular washer, all of the fragrance & residue of the shower gel was gone.
These machines defeat their own purpose. They may be saving water, but because of the crappy suspension, the load goes out of balance many times, it has to refill itself several times in order to get its load into balance, which wastes water, and energy. They also damage the clothes because the plastic washplate is rubbing the clothes with minimal water as a buffer, also due to the lack of movement. In addition, this style of washer does not move the clothes around enough to actually clean them by dissolving the dirt into the water. These machines are also a waste of material due to the fact that they break very quickly, and as a result, the factory has to produce more.(More manufacturing, more jobs, more energy wastage and more pollution). I think it is actually MORE efficient to make and use traditional washers compared to these HE washers.
I bought a brand new top loading HE washer set and within the first week I instantly regretted the purchase. Off balance all the time. More often than not I was having to re balance the load of laundry manually even after it had added water multiple times to "balance" itself. Never over loaded the washer and followed all user instructions. Once I looked up the problems I was having I then found all of the truly negative comments and returned the set. The price tag on the large capacity HE washers is entirely too high to be so flawed in its design.
I have a GE High Efficiency washer and I hate it!! I have had it about 3 years. It does not get my cloths clean. My husband is in construction and my son is an auto mechanic and all the stains never come out, even with soak and pre-treatment because the water does not even cover all the cloths. TERRIBLE DESIGN!! Please bring back the old washing machines!
If you are looking to replace your old washer because HE washers have new settings don't do it HE washers don't clean clothes better. Whirlpool I hope you see this comment.
Ha... now they’re trying to tell us that the old school washers didn’t work as well because the detergent was too diluted. If that were the case the detergent manufacturers would have been letting us know. What a load... and I don’t mean of laundry.,
I use the dissolving tabs , same ones as always for a least 10years , but with a H E washer these tabs never dissolve completely, and my washing come out looking like it has blue snot on it , or the tab get pushed onto the closed door opening and stays there because the water level isn’t high, deep , enough to wash it out.
Finding machines with agitators is getting to be a real challenge. I almost broke down and got one of these "great machines". Glad I haven't. Will keep searching for a "traditional" washer. Glad I read the comments. And yea...all she talked about was the detergent. Smh
A portable /apartment washer is a solution. Water level and intensity selections Just attach to slop sink. Also can use bluing to brighten whites. HE's are a lie. They Don't clean, they dont dry, and cycles are 2-3x as long. Creeps in power will have you slapping your clothes against rocks in a stream ..

I share your pain about the "crunchy" towels. They feel rough, like sandpaper-ish. I have had both an HE front load and HE top load washer for the last 5 years. I sold my first front loader because of mold growing all over the rubber seal. My newer top loader HE just doesn't seem to clean the clothes as well as it should. I also see the white colored soap scum residue on my black pants and black sweatshirts. I may one day sell my HE washer and try to find a good deal on a traditional washer
Im dying using this new he washer in my apt complex. So god damn tired gotta do 2 and 3 x the amt of washes that 1 washer git done before and the extra rinse cycle is guess what ...just the inside of the washer is spinning while water sprays into it. It doesnt fill the tub to rinse oh and it take 5 min to fill 5 min to drain omg and no where to put bleach or softener. I imagine most he have that tho. There is a warning on the wall that if we put too much soap in the washer that it might end the cycle early leaving soap in the clothing...wtf?

Less water for washing sounds good. But, less water for rinsing, I cannot understand how the inside of washing drum can be rinsed as well as clothes. During the washing cycle, the water is dirty and the drum is wet with the dirty water, which has to be rinsed during the rinse cycle. I cannot see how it works. Could anyone help me understand the mechanism?
k mo hi I was perplexed too so I waited and watched how it works. I think after washing, the speed at which the washer spins is much faster than an traditional one and completely spins off the excess water with detergent so that your clothes actually retains very little detergent and water. This process is repeated with clean water depending how many times you set your machine to rinse. The very nature of the He detergent is not attracted to clothes but to the dirt so they are removed quickly. Kind of like how Micellar water cleans away makeup. The extra spins with the water sprays will clean out the drum pretty quickly.

I feel like most of the people complaining about HE washers have 0 clue how to use them properly. I figure that most are using way too much detergent. Europeans have been using HE washers for quite a while and they haven’t been experiencing any of the problems that Americans have.
I think H-E washers work best with smaller loads or deep wash for large loads…I started using Oxyclean too… Frustrating though especially since I’m the only one who cares lol my clean freak self always paranoid about underwear mixed in with other clothes..Yet I bet I just sound crazy.
Hello, TomZentra. I am sorry that the cost of HE detergents is inflating. Our HE washers require the use of HE detergent for proper use and care. It may help to look for coupons that the manufacturer may offer, or from your local store. I may help to reduce the cost of the detergent. I had a Maytag Top loader washer for years. I didn’t gave any issues with it. I also didn’t expect it to work like a traditional washer. My clothes washed fine.

You may need to run more than one clean cycle to remove any excess detergent, and use a heavier setting, like heavy duty or bulky cycle, as that allows the most water to enter the basket. There's not enough water to wash the clothes thoroughly, I regret buyn my h.e. washer, I can't afford another washer right now but when I can I'm getting the old kind like I used to have.
HE washers are superior to the old models. However, this video's claim that HE detergent costs the same as non-HE detergent is completely false. This is one of the areas where manufacturers inflate and misrepresent the cost savings and efficiency of today's models.
People who say that are just peeing down your back and trying to tell you it's raining. I had to wash my work clothes in one of these (whirlpool cabrio) a number of times, totally worthless. Washed dirtier clothes with my old 1996 Whirlpool direct drive that come out perfect in one washing, and in less time, go figure.
DONT BUY HE here is why. 1.They take longer to wash, in some cases over 2 hrs. 2. In most HE washers you will never EVER be able to select the amount of water to use,this will leave a bad odor. 3. They can not remove oil stains as well. 4. By selecting fast wash, the stupid washer will just drain the water without Spin Dry..this leaves the Softener, then the washer adds the bleach, yea you will have Softener and bleach together. 5. Load Sensing is just a waste of even more time that is not effective of fluffy stuff . Here is how it works. The washer weights the clothes, spins it then micro manages every drop of water is adds. all to make sure that the clothes inside sucks it in. Ones the washer "THINKS" all the clothes is wet is starts to wash.. This is by far the most stupid shit ever.. It takes for ever and in some cases the clothes never gets wet.. even on a front load washer the water never gets to the center of the clothes.. 5. On "My Wash Settings" you will not be able to maximize the temperature or amount of water. 6. The soap companies figured these washer needs less detergent so they made "Low suds detergent" when in reality all you have to use is less detergent.. But hey that would have mean less sales for them. If saving water is more important then time and clean clothes for you.. the HE washers are are for you.. And dont thing that a larger capacity washer will help.. Take my word for it, SHAKE OFF THE HYPE FOR HE WASHERS AND GO WITH A SPEED QUEEN.

I WOULD LOVE TO DEBATE ALL OF YOUR 1,2,3,4,5 & 5 & 6 ridiculous POINTS! lol But I don't have to because your insane rant proves that for me as I have used regular machines my whole life & the past few years a HE machine & literally have NONE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT YOU LISTED.. Oh FYI I couldn't make my machine take 2hrs to wash a load if I tried the longest time is 90min that's with a extra Rinse cycle!! I can also select quick wash for 30min & add bleach & fabric softner to it together or separately & chose from 5 different heat settings for my water & 4 different soil levels &/or spin speeds!! And I don't have a very nice or expensive machine either!! In Fact to anyone who has common sense it's actually completely customizable with "loads" more options then a regular machine! !
Oh yeah 1 last thing I own a Whirlpool Cabrio & it's a top loader so I can not speak on front loaders except for the time I had to do laundry at my friends whom had a very expensive front loader HE & it was definitely not as big as mine nor did I like it as much but other than that I don't remember to much as this was at the time my old washer broke & right before I got my new He top loader!...
I have Samsung HE front loader and it washes great in about 45 minutes. Clothes are clean with no residue from the detergent or fabric softener and very well spinned so my HE dryer takes only like 30 minutes to dry . If I’m in a hurry and my clothes aren’t very dirty I’ll do a quick wash and dry which takes less than an hour . I save on electricity, and gas (from my dryer) plus on detergent and fabric softener because it uses less water I use less product. And my clothes still come out clean .

High efficiency equals low quality of cleanliness and some clothes missed, requiring more loads and adding water, requiring additional steps, defeating their purpose completely and pissing off consumers like me.
This video was made before HE Turbo was introduced. You can still use regular HE detergent in an HE Turbo washer, it just will have a slightly lessened effect

HE Washers don't work! They don't use enough water! The clothes come out blue, full of soap, or full of sweat because they never got cleaned. I can't wash big items at all. The washer takes 2 hours to wash. I gave up on the washer and went to the laundromat.
I hate HE washers with the passion. I used to have an LG HE top loader. Truebalance. Yeah right. Gets Unbalanced every single load. Even when it is spinning smoothly. Not to mention, when it is unbalanced, it adds more water and wastes more energy, and then shuts down, pouring all that water and energy down the drain. And then it would beep. LOUDLY. BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP! BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP! BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP! God I hated that sound. You'd take everything out and put it back in. Start it up again, and pray it doesn't repeat itself again. It was so darn loud, we booted it out and got a new speed queen. Worked like a charm, actually cleaned the clothes, and never got unbalanced since. Wish I could make it look like it had gone through an EF-5 tornado before it went though. If you are reading this, don't make the same mistake my parents made 8 years ago. Adios.

Diluted detergent can dissolve the stains better and on a wider area than concentrated detergent. Using more water is better for moving the clothes around and removing the dirt, so HE washers fail in this respect.

I use a Signature HE 4 T washer and add Tide pods to the basket . I am very satisfied with the results.

The solution to pollution is dilution. Hence, more water cleans better!

I feel like most of the people complaining about HE washers have 0 clue how to use them properly. I figure that most are using way too much detergent. Europeans have been using HE washers for quite a while and they haven’t been experiencing any of the problems that Americans have.

Hello, TomZentra. I am sorry that the cost of HE detergents is inflating. Our HE washers require the use of HE detergent for proper use and care. It may help to look for coupons that the manufacturer may offer, or from your local store. I may help to reduce the cost of the detergent. That's what I thought after several front loaders... went back to a new HE top load.. it still sucks. I want to go back to regular old agitator.
I had a Maytag Top loader washer for years. I didn’t gave any issues with it. I also didn’t expect it to work like a traditional washer. My clothes washed fine.

There's not enough water to wash the clothes thoroughly, I regret buyn my h.e. washer, I can't afford another washer right now but when I can I'm getting the old kind like I used to have.
HE washers are superior to the old models. However, this video's claim that HE detergent costs the same as non-HE detergent is completely false. This is one of the areas where manufacturers inflate and misrepresent the cost savings and efficiency of today's models.

People who say that are just peeing down your back and trying to tell you it's raining. I had to wash my work clothes in one of these (whirlpool cabrio) a number of times, totally worthless. Washed dirtier clothes with my old 1996 Whirlpool direct drive that come out perfect in one washing, and in less time, go figure.

High efficiency machines are total TRASH. I had to return my WHIRLPOOL HE and got an old school Speed Queen.

DONT BUY HE here is why.
1.They take longer to wash, in some cases over 2 hrs.
2. In most HE washers you will never EVER be able to select the amount of water to use,this will leave a bad odor.
3. They can not remove oil stains as well.
4. By selecting fast wash, the stupid washer will just drain the water without Spin Dry..this leaves the Softener, then the washer adds the bleach, yea you will have Softener and bleach together.
5. Load Sensing is just a waste of even more time that is not effective of fluffy stuff . Here is how it works. The washer weights the clothes, spins it then micro manages every drop of water is adds. all to make sure that the clothes inside sucks it in. Ones the washer "THINKS" all the clothes is wet is starts to wash.. This is by far the most stupid shit ever.. It takes for ever and in some cases the clothes never gets wet.. even on a front load washer the water never gets to the center of the clothes..
5. On "My Wash Settings" you will not be able to maximize the temperature or amount of water.
6. The soap companies figured these washer needs less detergent so they made "Low suds detergent" when in reality all you have to use is less detergent.. But hey that would have mean less sales for them.
If saving water is more important then time and clean clothes for you.. the HE washers are are for you.. And dont thing that a larger capacity washer will help..
Take my word for it, SHAKE OFF THE HYPE FOR HE WASHERS AND GO WITH A SPEED QUEEN.
Everything thing that you just ranted about is absolutely 100% NOT TRUE!! I WOULD LOVE TO DEBATE ALL OF YOUR 1,2,3,4,5 & 5 & 6 ridiculous POINTS! lol But I don't have to because your insane rant proves that for me as I have used regular machines my whole life & the past few years a HE machine & literally have NONE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT YOU LISTED.. Oh FYI I couldn't make my machine take 2hrs to wash a load if I tried the longest time is 90min that's with a extra Rinse cycle!! I can also select quick wash for 30min & add bleach & fabric softner to it together or separately & chose from 5 different heat settings for my water & 4 different soil levels &/or spin speeds!! And I don't have a very nice or expensive machine either!! In Fact to anyone who has common sense it's actually completely customizable with "loads" more options then a regular machine! !
Oh yeah 1 last thing I own a Whirlpool Cabrio & it's a top loader so I can not speak on front loaders except for the time I had to do laundry at my friends whom had a very expensive front loader HE & it was definitely not as big as mine nor did I like it as much but other than that I don't remember to much as this was at the time my old washer broke & right before I got my new He top loader!...
I have Samsung HE front loader and it washes great in about 45 minutes. Clothes are clean with no residue from the detergent or fabric softener and very well spinned so my HE dryer takes only like 30 minutes to dry . If I’m in a hurry and my clothes aren’t very dirty I’ll do a quick wash and dry which takes less than an hour . I save on electricity, and gas (from my dryer) plus on detergent and fabric softener because it uses less water I use less product. And my clothes still come out clean .

I hate HE washers. Clothes smell musty after washing them. I can smell that same musty smell on other people's clothes who use HE washers. Those things are such a joke.

High efficiency equals low quality of cleanliness and some clothes missed, requiring more loads and adding water, requiring additional steps, defeating their purpose completely and pissing off consumers like me.

This video was made before HE Turbo was introduced. You can still use regular HE detergent in an HE Turbo washer, it just will have a slightly lessened effect

HE Washers don't work! They don't use enough water! The clothes come out blue, full of soap, or full of sweat because they never got cleaned. I can't wash big items at all.

I hate HE washers with the passion. I used to have an LG HE top loader. Truebalance. Yeah right. Gets Unbalanced every single load. Even when it is spinning smoothly. Not to mention, when it is unbalanced, it adds more water and wastes more energy, and then shuts down, pouring all that water and energy down the drain. And then it would beep. LOUDLY. BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP!
BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP! BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP! God I hated that sound. You'd take everything out and put it back in. Start it up again, and pray it doesn't repeat itself again. It was so darn loud, we booted it out and got a new speed queen. Worked like a charm, actually cleaned the clothes, and never got unbalanced since. Wish I could make it look like it had gone through an EF-5 tornado before it went though. If you are reading this, don't make the same mistake my parents made 8 years ago. Adios.

Diluted detergent can dissolve the stains better and on a wider area than concentrated detergent. Using more water is better for moving the clothes around and removing the dirt, so HE washers fail in this respect.
