  • This is a short video to show you how to measure non-HE laundry detergent into a HE (High Efficiency) Washer. Mine just happens to be the front load style. But this can work in all HE washers. Never use the full scoop of non-HE detergent in a HE washer because it will cause an over-sudsing issue. Keep in mind you may need to adjust your amounts because you may have a larger or smaller style washer than I do. Adjust the measurements accordingly. You might have to use a little bit of trial and error to get it right. This is just meant to be a starting point for you to try. This is only meant to be used as a guide so you can use regular detergent in your washer. The downy dispenser ball in the video is used in my old washer because we kept it to was things like rags and rugs in it.
Warning: Check with the manufacture of your washer to find out if any warranty you may still have on your washer could be void if you use a non-HE detergent in your HE washer. If you don't have a warranty on your washer, then you really don't have anything to lose.
Disclaimer: Please take this video as you will. I am not responsible if you do something wrong and ruin your washer or clothing.

I totally agree. In general I think most detergent makers, weather liquid or powder try to get you to use more than what's necessary in order to sell more. I think Consumer Reports once did a report on this and recommended only about 2 Tbsp. per load. Also, the caps and measuring cups can be deceiving. I often use my own small measuring cup with a line drawn on it so the family knows where to fill to.

If it's not HE, less than a tsp. If it makes too much suds, cut the measurement back a little bit.

In teaspoons, how much detergent would you say you use?

Put vinegar in bleach dispenser as it dispenses late in wash cycle. Gallon vinegar capful 1 cupful, no bubbles on wash spin.

Vinegar destroys the seals and drain hoses in your washing machine.

Can use citric acid solution made to a 20% concentration instead of vinegar and it won't damage seals. The good thing with the bleach compartment is you get a rinse after which is how sours as they're known in the industry are used. If you put in the fabric softener compartment it will be used in the last rinse requiring an extra rinse after.

Double rinsing not necessary as when dry, no smell. Used to use on diapers, no ammonia smell.

@@kimberleytui179 only one rinse is necessary to remove the sour from the clothes. Ideally the sour is added in the penultimate phase of the cycle. This is to protect the fabric longevity

I wonder if less soap would compromise required soap for optimal cleaning...anyone else try this theory, i have by accident by using too much soap w/ oxy & it ends up not rinsing all the soap particles.

If that happens, just use the "rinse and spin" option and add a couple of extra rinses. Just remember if you use a non-HE detergent in the washer, it suds up more. You have to use less in order for this not to happen.

Less soap will over time lead to a smelly washer. But if you notice here some oxygen bleach was added and if that's the case for every wash then all should be fine. I washed with 20gm and that was not enough. Cleaned the machine out with several runs of oxygen bleach and now use 30gm or more and all is good. The big factor here is your water needs to be soft or not too hard otherwise you will have to increase your dosage

Many washer manufacturers will void your warranty if you use detergent not HE.

As if the warranty does any good. You simply lie to them and tell them you used he detergent just like they like to us by telling us their products work and are quality products when in reality machines barely last 5 years these days

@@gemmrkmy LG is on its ninth year without any issues. I expect at least 5 more. So if your does not make it past five years. Simple. It's because of you.

the only reason to use normal detergent in he washers is because it is much cheaper..
