In the last 40 years, appliance sales have gone from local independent dealers (and Sears..) to a relative handful of big box mass merchandisers. Just as a few suppliers have the power to keep selling prices higher, WalMart, Lowe's, and Home Depot, by themselves, have the buying power to push wholesale prices consistently lower.. Knocking $5 off the price of each washer is significant when buying in massive volume, and they'll demand $8 off next year. This pressure on manufacturers results, year over year, in cheaper and thinner plastic replacing metal and rubber, screws and plastic welds replacing nuts and bolts, and flimsy electronics replacing knobs, switches, and mechanical timers. The shiny, glitzy exteriors of many of these washers in this video are hiding embarassingly cheap and cheezy innards.

These days, the big box guys, at least in my market, are just leasing the floor space and getting commissions. The appliance manufacturers have their own central warehouses and delivery teams. It doesn't matter who you buy from, the order is going to go to that warehouse and get delivered from there. This partially shuts out the independents as they are on the last udder and get served last on the most popular models. The big box stores have no inventory on hand. Makes a ton of sense from an inventory standpoint, and there isn't price competition between big box stores anymore. One has it on sale, they all will. The only pressure these days is coming from the different manufacturers.

I have an LG with the impeller, but it is the TurboDrum model, with a punch action. Purchased 8 years ago, to replace my dearest Speed Queen set, I have had no problems to report. My Speed Queen set cost too much to repair and even more to replace. I could buy three to four LGs of my model for the Speed Queens.

I have the first model LG washer shown but without the agitator and I must say.. it does the job well and it super quiet. I’d definitely purchase it again if I had to do it all over again. Washes very well and seems to use a tad more water than the other non-agitator brands.

I've watched a lot of your videos, very informative. Our 28-year-old Kenmore '90 series finally gave out. We t with local shop that sells used and S/D. Picked up a refurbished 2023 Maytag 4.7cuft dual agitator washer paired with a 2019 Maytag commercial line dryer for $550 total.

We bought a whirlpool with the removable agitator a little over a year ago. It washed fine, but it was noisy(especially during spin cycle) and didn't have an end of cycle signal. After 4 service calls for various issues(luckily all covered under the 1 year warranty) we gave up after the 5th issue and replaced it with a speed queen. Obviously not available at the depot, but just a warning for the removable agitator models.

Basically everything is junk now that isn't a Speed Queen top loader. I work on all brands often, and it's the only washer that's less than 15-20 years old I would even allow in my house. I'll clean my clothes on a washboard by hand like it's the early 1900s before I'd buy anything with a suspension rod setup or an impeller instead of an agitator. Never buy a Samsung toploader, and never buy a Samsung appliance. They have garbage electronics, suspension rods, and quality. Pay the extra for the SQ now and thank yourself in 10 years when your washer still works. The LG front loaders are the next best option.

@@gargamel3393Speed Queen washing machines are going to be the least accessible, as far as money is concerned. I understand that Speed Queen washers and dryers are obviously built to last, so that factors into the extremely high upfront costs, but at the same time, what are people supposed to do that can't afford a Speed Queen washer and (rightfully) won't get a used washing machine?
Like it or not, $1200+ dollars is a HUGE asking price for many Americans, and with that in mind, it would really help if Speed Queen offered lease to own options instead of just offering the usual upfront one time purchase that a LOT of people simply don't have the financial luxury and freedom to be able to afford.

I notice the ones with an impellor don't get the clothes down into the water like the agitators do. And I'd say the best type of agitator is the screw type because it really pushes the clothes down into the water. The impellors kind of just let the clothes sit on top of the water and they don't really get moved around in it as much
