Best I've had is also in Michigan .... A little place just outside Ludington called The Chuck Wagon - very GOOD !

My grandma was making “Detroit Style” pizza when I was a kid in the 60s. In New York! Except the sauce was evenly distributed.
I remember there was a local pizza place that was around for 3 or 4 years they had a really good Detroit style pizza one of the things I get whenever I went.
The thing that did them in was the prices way to high for what they were selling its a shame cause the food was good now that I've moved further upstate there's way more local pizza then i know what to do with.
Gotta try Bella Bolla in Port Huron.

We are still waiting for the review of Anthony’s gourmet pizza on N. Maple Rd. in Ann Arbor. The Anthony’s deep dish is the best, but they also offer a Chicago style deep dish, regular and an excellent thin crust. Just make sure to order it well done.

Used to work a Detroit pizza joint, and while saucing the deep dish would always put the line’s parallel with the slices so each bite gets sauce.
So true about how light and airy the crust can be while still being a great bite. Honestly, I think they've improved their sauce technique, but wanted to give Dave an original for the spot. For me, the 4 square with green olives and bacon is heaven. oh and yeah...Go Blue!

I love buddies, their Italian salad is awesome. The crust is amazing. Agree, sometimes the sauce isn’t spread to cover the whole pizza, but that is kind of how Detroit Pizza is made.

I really think you need to try the "Detroit style pizza" version at buddy's, I know you're usually about just cheese just like my young kids but it only has pepperoni but has a different sauce and a ton of seasonings that make it AMAZING. Please do a review on it Dave!

True about looks heavy feels light - I like a lot of air pockets in mine; still love the original Cottage Inn downtown for nostalgia, I go every time I'm in town - but Buddy's is much better.

The only REAL Buddy's is in Detroit . Best pizza in Detroit area is Luigi's in Mt Clemens..... Used to be Buschimi's but I think they are now closed. Closest thing to the original Buddy's is the Cloverdale.

The best pizza at Buddy's is the Detroiter. He is right about the lack of sauce though. There is so much cheese and buttery crust that you need more sauce to balance out the flavor.
It’s nice for a change of pace, every now and then you get a really good one, but for the most part, it’s a Grill cheese sandwich😂
