Paul was a magnificent player. A Rolls Royce of a player. And managed brilliantly by the great Big Jack. Imagine what he could have achieved without the dodgy knees and the fondness for the booze. Loved watching him play.
It just goes to show how ‘GREAT’ he was when he was so good and accomplished so much while having those problems. He was an amazing player - one of the very best to EVER put on The Irish Jersey 💚
We love you, Paul. Not just because you were a great player. You were amazing but also flawed like the rest of us. Perfection isn't relatable. Struggle is. Hope you are well, Paul.
Paul McGrath had Robetto Baggio in his back pocket for 90 mins vs Italy in 1994. Monumental performance - probably the best ever defensive performance by an Irish International.
Big Jack was as tough as they come but he also had a dad-like quality that we just don't see in any managers today.....he could easily have taken the tough love approach and thrown Paul out of the team for good and no one including Paul himself would have blamed him....but he knew in his heart "no......we need him out there"
Spot on Marlon they were the 1990s My Wife and I should have been at the Egypt game, but about 5 months before my Mother said to my wife you will have fun at the Matches what matches she said the world Cup well Rita my other half went ballistic and I said no world Cup no Honeymoon and we did not have one. But the kicker was in 1995 November 15 we went to the Portugal game where we lost 3 Nil and she loved even though it pissed down.
@@djbillybopdjbillybop2817 Brilliant story Billy....unfortunately we will never see those days again but at least we were alive for them...Greetings from a Dub living in very hot Mombasa Kenya .Say hi to Rita and family buddy..
Really ! Hansen, Terry, Lawrenson ? Magnificent though. However, the perceived best ever Beckanbauer said Hansen and despite our rivalry is a no contest. Hope Paul is keeping well. YNWA
Athletically, I think McGrath edges Moore but in terms of reading the game and being to anticipate opposition play Moore was better....but together they'd have been a dangerous partnership
Jackie won the World Cup as a centre back, the way he talks about Paul is testament to the amazing man he is

He would have became a Man Utd legend and won many leagues and cups with them

Some Player Neil.
A building is only as good as its foundation. A human is only as strong as their childhood. That man suffered as a boy.
He did Alexbowman.
The chapter in his biography which is his mother telling her story is heartbreaking.
And sadly there are thousands of stories like hers.
i love these legends talking about their footy high jinks. i love the charlton's and mcgrath.
they literally don't make em like that anymore
They sure dont Mowvu.

Paul would be worth £80m in todays transfer market easily. Brilliant defender
That's a Bukowski devotion.
why are the best players always a mess psychologically 😩
Like Artists Poets etc etc Roger.
@@djbillybopdjbillybop2817 it's a double edged sword
@@RogerYeahmon It is Roger.
I thought villa park was in Birmingham
It is James
But what ‘we’ call Birmingham, is locally referred to by several different names, as they should be. Perry Barr - or should that be Birmingham? 😉
Truly world class player. Only Bobby Moore was a better central defender from the British Isles.
Two great players Sphughes.
