hey been enjoying a few of your videos. your a natural at this. not OTT with the tasting notes like some reviewers. im on this bottle tonight and its not doing it for me at all (full bottle) which is about halfway down. i was hoping it needed some time and air inside to open up but its still all alcohol nip and drying oak. the mini bottles seem to be the best version of it. the nose is almost dead, theres a bit of a gingerbread flavour in there and thats about it. its a decent beginners dram but once your into the higher abv, peated stuff its one to leave behind.
Haha thanks man, I try to keep it relatable but it's sometimes hard with something so subjective! Yeah the Glenfiddich's are one I never really got into properly. I feel like they're solid intro whiskies but more into high volume than higher quality drams, once your palate opens up they're hard to return to. The 15 YO has been a decent, enjoyable dram a couple of times for me but there's so much batch discrepancy that it's also been really sub-par. I'm frequently suspicious of the mini's being 'cherry picked' to try and win a follow up sale! Cheers for watching! 👍🥃
I got a 20cl bottle of the Glenfiddich 15 for my birthday. I liked the aroma more than the taste. It lacked complexity and seemed younger than a 15 year old whisky should taste. I found I needed water to get the prickle to disappear. I probably wouldn't buy a whole bottle though.
Yeah I think it was a 20cl bottle I first tried too, and had much the same experience! The full-sized bottle 9 months later was much nicer and then this mini was also very nice but in a simpler way. I wonder if the Solera vatting is leading to large batch discrepancies or maybe the mini's & 20cl were bottled at very different times... This was my favourite of the set, and it will probably be a while before I consider getting a full bottle.
I thought it was just OK, but that was quite some time ago, and I don't know how much time passed between the time the bottle was filled and my tasting it... The experience could be very different with a recently filled bottle.
Yeah the Solera vatting is an interesting idea. From the 3 times I've had some there has been considerable difference. It's like a distilleries version of an infinity bottle!
It looks as though you're getting way more relaxed behind the camera! Good job man, keep it up!
Haha cheers bro. You taking credit for my new appreciation of Glenfiddich? :p The 15 is a good one.
