I’ve always felt like the Elite 4 were meant to be experts in two types that went well together. Lorelei as an Ice/Water expert; Bruno as a Fighting/Rock expert; Agatha as a Ghost/Poison expert; Lance as a Dragon/Flying expert. This would set them apart from Gym leaders, who had only trained in one type, whereas the Elite four had actually mastered two types.

Is it weird that, because of the onix i guess, I consider Bruno to be Brock 2.0? I've never really thought of him as a fighting type first for some reason... to give some context; yellow was my first game, then blue, and gen 2 crystal first...i'm weird like that. But this means that I've grown up respecting early fighting type -> mankey is my no1 addition to a party, followed by a couple nido's and definetly a geodude at mt moon (and wherever you can get one in gen 2 again) because in yellow misty doesn't affect your party choice at all, and all the poison types that rando trainers have really do encourage using dig/earthquake.
that and my memory of hitmonlee in crystal -> when you linked games using the gb colours you could fight the last hall of fame composition of the other person once a day in pallet or viridian-> my sister had this team with both a Lugia and a Mew (and others but these two are forever engraved in my memory) and i remember that (shiny) hitmonlee High jump kick-ing the s* out of both of them (i did have suicune as backup, also that playthrough gave me a (shiny) pichu from the day care egg... by the time of those fights it was a pikachu with 'zap cannon' and, of course, a golem)
That sorta makes me giovanni 2.0 (or bruno 2.0?, since i like both fighting and rock/ground)
P.s.: sorry about the length, i just got hit by a stream of childhood memories...

Use Rage against Dewgong and because of the way the move works in Gen. 1, you will now be locked into Rage. Dewgong on the other Hand will spam Rest, constantly healing itself, because the AI think the move is super effective, as it is Psychic type. Opponents Pokémon have infinite PP, while Rage only depletes a single PP once when initially used. Which means, if Rage only does a little bit of damage, the battle will go on indefinetely.     One thing I'd like to mention about the spreadsheets: Using colors and simple conditional formatting can make them significantly easier to read for yourself. I realized that when I publicised my Tales of Phantasia speedrun notes in the form of a spreadsheet, and decided to make it more readable for the people that were interested in running it. Suddenly, it was significantly easier for myself to read my notes during a run as well °-°;

Yellow was the first Pokémon game I ever played and oh man, I remember being SO frustrated with Brock with pikachu. I also never understood that your experience stayed if you blocked out after a battle, so instead of losing battles and blacking out, (or was it whiting out in yellow?) I would always shut the game off and turn it back on and retry.
I’ll NEVER forget the day that I FONALLY was able to beat Brock with pikachu on SUPER LOW HEALTH…. Like I’m talkin a sliver of red bar LOL.
I think my team was a pikachu, a pidgey, a rattata(who I used to pronounce as “rattatatta”), mankey is ringing a bell with Pokémon i first used, but I remember it being very weak and I don’t ever remember playing with it enough to evolve it…. Also, a few bugs I couldn’t level up because of their only moves consisting of HARDEN and string shot and me not knowing how to even read well let alone about the concept of switch training. Lol. and my secret weapon: a pidgiotto that I found randomly in virdian forest!
ALL of my full team of 6 Pokémon were fainted except that sliver-of-red-bar pikachu and then I FINALLY won against that binding onyx!
I remember , I was in our van praying to GOD to not let my batteries die before getting a chance to save the game after beating Brock.
    What a memory!
How crazy that thinking about something in a video can vividly trigger a memory that I haven’t thought about in years and years.
Thanks for uploading your video and helping me remember my own experiences with this game. =D
PS: I know my comment is super long, but to make a long comment a bit longer:
When I was a kid playing this game for the first time, I also remember using the potion from the pc, as well a the one from that random guy has at the beginning of the game, and remembering that a potion would only heal 1 Pokémon…. But once I had more than 1 Pokémon, I would have to use another potion to heal the other Pokémon…
Anyway, I remember thinking it was like that for the pokecenter, thinking that healing for some reason would only fix 1 of my Pokémon, so I remember talking to the lady 6 times in a row and healing to get my entire team healed…. And I did that ALOT. Then my brother helped me with the game and showed me I was wasting ALOT of time unnecessarily doing that because healing at the pokecenter would fix all the Pokémon in my party once and for all.
Lol. This is what happens when you know nothing about a game, and just barely learning how to read, and get only a cartridge from a friend, with no box or Manual, and just going for it. Batteries and hand-holding NOT included. Haha

Hi Scott great video, very fun to watch, thinking about a vs opponent for primeape, i can think in 3 scenarios:
1-Seaking (looks like it has nothing to do with primeape, but they are tied in base stats-385)
2-Poliwrath/Machamp the other Fighting pkm in this gen (other than the "hitmons"), but this one is less likely due the higher stats of the 2 (but this is not always definitive for pokemon performance, so it even could become a three way vs and could be interesting)
3-The "released/forgotten left training" video, as we all know, Ash primeape was "released/left training" long time ago, some first gen pokemon that had the same luck are: Squirlte (less likely for being a first stage pkm), butterfree, pidgeot, lapras and seaking (according to wikidex ash caught one and released for a competion).
Thats all that comes to my mind at this moment. Glad you are back from your vacations, see you in the next video!, Saludos amigo!.

Good times. In a party I use Mankey/Primeape to deal hard and fast damage, particularly to trainers who are being pains (you have your hit list of them). I can see it being a glass cannon, but it is such a powerful cannon that it almost doesn’t matter… almost.
The list went by very quickly, but am going to request a play through with Meowth/Persian and Staryu/Starmie as they are some of my favourites. If you have done them, I’ve clearly missed them.

I always slept on fighting types in generation 1, with the exception of Machamp. There's just not very many available for a long time, and by the time I had the choice between Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee, I always found them underwhelming compared to the rest of my team, and always dropped them after trying to use them. Even when using the trainer fly glitch to get both. I thought the trade Machamp in Yellow was always really cool, but it never made it onto any of my final teams when I always just caught 2 or 3 legendary birds, used 2 or 3 of the fully evolved starters, and kept Pikachu. I almost want to play Yellow again just to use the trade Machamp on my team, and see how well it does.
So it was cool to see Mankey with such low base stats utilize some unique strengths like STAB fighting moves, karate chop, and just how well dig synergized with everything. Impressive run as always, it was neat seeing a pokemon with such low base stats still dominate against some pretty formidable opponents with good strategy involved, let alone in the extra pressure of trying to play optimally for RTA.

The reason Lorelei has that strange a.i. modification is vecause of a softlock that can occur within her room back in Red and Blue with her Dewgong always using rest against a fighting pokemon knowing the move Rage. If used, the battle will infinity go on due to enemy trainers not consuming pp. Lorelei is the only trainer in RB that got a special A.I. in the makings for Yellow

    @matthewhicks8203 Год назад

    Story time:
Pokemon Yellow was the first video game I ever owned as a kid. I was sure psyched cause everyone else had gotten red and blue but I hadn't. So I started playing and much to my joy I found a Mankey. One of my favorite Pokemon to this date. I immediately caught it and played it for a while. Then I turned off the game only to start over again. Then I did it again. And again.
Up until this point, I had never played a game that had a manual save feature. I had only played games you had to input a code to get to where you were last or one that saved your progress automatically. The idea that I could manually save a game was a foreign concept to me so I just assumed that I had to beat the game in one sitting.
This all led up to the point where my Grandma was trying to get me to take a bath and I was not having it. I had just caught a Mankey again and didn't want to lose it, so I thought I could pause it and leave it running while I went in. It was at this point that I noticed one of the options said "Save."
I pressed it out of curiosity. When it said that my game was saved, my mind was effectively blown. To this day, Mankey and Primape are one of my favorite Pokemon for this dumb reason.

ooo on my current firered playthru i got a mankey early on (charmander starter and metal claw still just doesnt feel quite good enough for me.) anyways now its a primeape and ive never really used him before honestly but hes kinda great! karate chop, mega punch, rock slide and seismic toss are what im working with right now and its solid honestly. anything i dont outright kill i can at least dent with toss before i die/switch. super excited to watch this AND i just got my dinner, peak gamer.
edit: onix is sneaky fast. i only just recently noticed because my pokemon diamond playthru lmfao. my main team is full of slow to average speed pokemon. gastrodon, weezing, kricketune, magcargo, pelipper (thought about using tailwind tbh) and biberal. ANYWAYS the amount of times id get outsped by pokemon (mainly onix) i didnt think about normally was so funny i was not used to my entire team being so slow. i really unintentionally made a trick room team 😂😭 on the positive side, weezing is incredible and i still love bulky ground/waters so theres that. anyways back to the vid.
also i think rapidash would be good cause it also has good speed and attack, decent special as well i think but the movepool is yikers even in later gens from what i recall. i saw persian mentioned too and i think that would be good as well. i think poli line has too much versatility for it to be fair tbh. poli has speed bulk movepool and power. need a VS thats speed power focused with a rather shallow movepool.
kingler vs rapidash could be the play as well. pokemon greatly benefited by the physical/special split basically. such good attack stats with STAB using the lesser stat. just some rambles, love your vids as always💖✨
two things of note/questions/what ifs: mimicing thunder wave instead of ice beam for the lance fight, using rock slide for dragonite. this also solves aerodactyl outspeeding you. dunno if mankey has enough bulk to make it work but if it has enough special to make ice beam work i figured id mention it lol. instead of rest, i think you could have mimiced recover from zam or if you didnt wanna risk the OHKO from it, leech seed from coconuts. youd win the stall with dig damage avoid and leech seed i think, as well as entering into the later fights with higher hp? in theory anyways.
oh also just noticed you could mimic dewgongs rest instead of learning it as well so youd keep karate chop if its needed. attack first turn to proc it so it uses it second turn, mimic rest, kill dewgong, have rest for slowbro or whatever.
aye you mimiced high jump kick nice. i REALLY love mimic. i said it on another vid but its SO cool in gen 1 honestly. like the variety from being able to have rest to high jump kick to thunder wave/ice beam to recover/leech seed etc w i l d. like the fact theres potentially mutiple ways to use it really just boggles my mind the more i see you use it.

24:40 Yo, that's so smooth, like, wtf? Can we talk about this? I like the new format, it rewards long time viewers, cuts on the repetition and invites new audience to check your older stuff. Also props to showing some of your preparation, you go very hard into it. It looks like you fixed your audio and now your recording voice and live one sound more alike to me. This comment was made while you're at Fival but I can't help myself, there's just too much greatness here to wait until the end!
"Answering the questions wrong is the fastest way." Shouldn't it be the other way around, faster to get everything right?
Shen, the speedrunner, would be proud with all your numbers. By the way, Squirtle is the best in Gen 1, followed by Charmander and lastly, Bulbasaur. Of course, speedruns are very different from your challenges even if both aim for speed.
You survived Nidoqueen because Earthquake doesn't hit through Dig in Gen 1. IIRC nowadays it does double damage.

    • @ScottsThoughtsPokemon
      @ScottsThoughtsPokemon  2 года назад +1

Faster to answer the questions wrong if you want to train. Faster to answer them right if you want to skip the trainers. It's slower to answer right and then talk to the trainer at 4x speed. At 1x speed it might be faster to answer correctly and then talk to the trainer to skip their walk time (trainers walk slowly)

I was surprised it needed so many resets early on. End game, not so much, it is frail. I've tried to use it in a lot of Gen 1 nuzlockes and only took it to the end once in a FR nuzlocke.
    Questions and ideas:
-Are you going to use Mewtwo for your 150th video or as the final Gen 1 video?
    -Primeape should go against Persian.
They're both glass cannons who get an always-crit stab. Also, since you'll be doing Weezing vs. Arbok because of Team Rocket, Meowth/Persian has to go somewhere. Another option would be Sandslash.
    -Golbat vs. Tentacruel
Battle of that annoying poison type that's everywhere and confuses your 'mons.
    -Mr. Mime vs. Jynx
Battle of the psychic types you can only get through trade.
    -Poliwrath vs. Exeggutor
Water/Fighting vs. Grass/Psychic. It seems one sided, but, in-game, water is great and grass is bad while fighting is bad and psychic is great.
    -Dodrio vs. Dugtrio vs. Megnaton
Triple battle of the triples. Also, they sort-of have a perfect rock-paper-scissors. Electric isn't immune to flying, but it works in all other regards.
    -Dragonite physical vs. Dragonite special
I was thinking about who you could possibly have go up against dragonite. Seems it would be best to wait for gen 2 and verse tyranitar. But, what if you did what you did with snorlax and just changed a key aspect of each side?
