You know how you said you didn't want to make up bored with all these restoration videos? well, I don't know about everyone else, but I am absolutely LOVING these videos. PLEASE keep making more restoration videos :D
The ones he showed are SMK 2nd generation tactile switches, however in the M0116 he didn't show, it most likely had Alps SKCM Orange in it. shame we didn't get to see the good ones..
the 65th shadow got his wrist cut by the 63th shadow because 65th didn't let 63's sis play on 65's xbox. 65 says that this is unfair and cut 63's dick off as revenge. 64 is clueless as to what is happening.
Great video! I grew up around Apple IIs and after delivering hundreds of newspapers, mowing dozens of lawns, and asking for money for two Christmases and birthdays, finally bought a brand new Apple IIGS. Your restored keyboard and mouse looked like the ones that I took fresh out of the box all those years ago. Beautiful work! Keep up the memerizing content. :-)
Watching you retrobrighting stuff is darn near orgasmic >.> its so satisfying seeing all that yellow staining go away leaving clean white plastic behind.
I really love the Raspberry pi, and when the Raspberry Pi 2 and A+ came out... I think it's safe to say I was excited. I can't wait for the next episode!
I’d love to see you do a video on the mechanical key switches Alps electric produced, and all of the other various mechanical switches found in these vintage keyboards like the Dell AT101.
john m - Well the most important thing is that apparently the video signal is compatible with DVI or HDMI. So all that is needed is to cut the wires and create a custom adapter to the HDMI port on the Raspberry Pi. The one reason I keep thinking about NOT doing the G4 though is that the Raspberry Pi is technically slower than the G4 already in there. So I've been thinking of maybe putting an Intel NUC inside of there or something.
The iBookGuy The raspberry pi has more MODERN hardware, though, and a lot more support for applications like web browsers, games, etc. compared to OS X 10.5, which is veeerrrrrry old.
your daughter seems like she would make good apprentice to you in restoring old computers and keyboards. i would love to see her make more appearances in your videos.
Keyboards have actually gotten much worse now. Pretty much all keyboards today use terrible membrane switches, while these old keyboards all use proper, clicky mechanical switches which last for a lifetime. Delicious!
Any way to use some kind of shrink wrap tubing on the rubber of a Mac book power brick ? I found my power brick & all the rubber covering literally rotted off.
I have that EXACT Apple mouse and it went under about the same treatment! I got it for 75 cents, a good deal, but it was filthy! Alcohol and some Peroxide + the sun sure gave it a nicer look.
Hey! First of all: I really enjoy your videos! "One more thing" beside: When you work with your RPi, have you already considered to choose the new Raspberry Pi 2 because of more power? I would really recommend it to you!
Awesome i love these restoration videos, keep it up! Also make sure you get a Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, the new one, as it has a much faster CPU and twice the ram of the previous Pi.
What if you submerged the keys in the correct orientation, and then used a clear piece of plastic to submerge them and the clear plastic. Or you could use tape or blue tack to stick the keys to the bottom of the container, and then fill it. It would take less peroxide and they wouldn't float. Although, I'm not sure if blue tack would dissolve or not.
A couple questions that I would like answers for please: 1. Where do you get your keyboards from cheaply (I'm in the UK so everything is more expensive) 2. Would you sell some of these after restoring them because I would love to buy some 3. Which is the cheapest keyboard model for Mac out there?
The iBookGuy You should make a video on how to clean the Apple Pro Keyboards as well. I can't seem to get the keyboard separated from the bottom tray on mine and there's a lot of debris under it.
Man, you were lucky to find a II GS out in the wild for cheap...I've never had any luck finding, well, any old hardware in any of my local shops. Also, how do you disassemble a Apple IIc keyboard? I assume it's fairly similar to the II GS' by the looks of it, but the keys feel a tad brittle on mine. I just need to get the space bar off and nuke it with Retr0Brite.
When I wad a kid we had an old school computer. A big dell with a huge monitor, big and chunky. I used to always steal the ball from the mouse. Idk why but little kid me thought it was really cool. Sometimes I peeled the coating off and kept the metal ball. Needless to say I was always getting in trouble because my parents needed the mouse. Lol
David- Do you think that it would be easy to repair a ribbon cable that became ripped when the keyboard was disassembled, or would it have to be replaced altogether? The keyboard is the apple A9MO330.
"I don't want to bore you with a hundred keyboard restorations..." Bore me! Bore me! For God's sake, bore me!

The 64th Shadow What happened to the 65th shadow
the 65th shadow got his wrist cut by the 63th shadow because 65th didn't let 63's sis play on 65's xbox. 65 says that this is unfair and cut 63's dick off as revenge. 64 is clueless as to what is happening.

ThunderBow no
"I don't want to bore you with like 100 different keyboard retoration videos." - The 8-Bit Guy, 3:35
Wow. I never noticed how yellow old peripherals really are until I saw restored ones.
"we started with the mouse. First, it is going to need some Alcohol....".
Me too, mouse. Me too!

Your channel is literally about everything I know and love... Fantastic! :)

You sir are a savior. I restored my IIGS Keyboard, and it looks like new, 30 years later.
Can't wait for the Raspberry Pi video!
Yes. Bother us with 20 min or more for good restorations. They are good to watch all the time.
This is so satisfying to watch. I wanna go buy a bunch of old plastic parts and restore them just for the hell of it!
I think it's safe to say the iBook guy has the most original tech content out there. Liked as always!
That's why i subscribed. Videos that are like this. Just love them.

Thanks for this video, I recently acquired an old ADB mouse and I was trying to do some research on how to clean it.
How about a raspberry pi in a g4 lamp style mac case
have been considering that as well. And I believe I can re-use the existing LCD inside the iMac G4.
I have heard people doing that the video power input is only 5 volts on it at least thats the rumor
john m - Well the most important thing is that apparently the video signal is compatible with DVI or HDMI. The iBookGuy
I think that it would be even better to leave the G4 hardware alone, max out the RAM, and put the PowerPC port of Debian on it.
gotta love the old alps switches
Nice job, looks brand new.
Love the Planet Express shirt! ❤
I restored my Macintosh Performa keyboard with your video , Big thanks :D , I like it !

Could you make one about the Pro Keyboard and Pro Mouse?
your daughter seems like she would make good apprentice to you in restoring old computers and keyboards. i would love to see her make more appearances in your videos.
Keyboards have actually gotten much worse now. Pretty much all keyboards today use terrible membrane switches, while these old keyboards all use proper, clicky mechanical switches which last for a lifetime. Delicious!

Idk why Im watching this but I'm enjoying it
Could you do more of these keyboard restoration videos?I find them interesting and fun to watch
I did the same thing with my friend's Apple Macintosh SE. Except without the hydrogen peroxide part.
Man, you were lucky to find a II GS out in the wild for cheap...I've never had any luck finding, well, any old hardware in any of my local shops.

Would this same method work on a imac g3 keyboard and mouse? thanks for all the awesome videos, really enjoying going through them all!
I find this very satisfying
I love you man, never seen such results
This video is so satisfying! :)
David- Do you think that it would be easy to repair a ribbon cable that became ripped when the keyboard was disassembled, or would it have to be replaced altogether? The keyboard is the apple A9MO330.
I have this keyboard! I converted it to USB and use it on my mac pro on a daily basis. it was $30 and nearly mint.
