- Here are the commercials and promos that aired on the evening of October 11, 1996 during Global TV's airing of the controversial X-Files episode "Home". What is odd, I remembering watching this "live" at the time and could have sworn there was a warning for the graphic imagery. I suppose, it could have been the WUTV feed...
Retrontario’s primary mission is the preservation, research and exhibition of rare videotape recordings (1970s to 1990s) recorded off of any and all Ontario (and surrounding area) TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. We also hope to create an ongoing oral history of this content through comments left below the videos. Please add to this evolving history, if you know more information pertaining to the clips, fondly remember them or have a modern thought all comments are welcome! 5:24 Surprised they let "bullshit" slip through...in the promo, no less.
Nobody was uptight about that sort of stuff in the 90's.
@@Doofus171No, they were, but they’d put a warning only for any swearing. Now they put a warning on every show that has any sort of written monologue whatsoever.
That announcer man's voice! Brings me back
At 5:25 I’m surprised they allowed “Bull Shit” to be aired on a commercial break in the mid-90’s. I remember “13+” logos appearing in the corner for Goosebumps on YTV, so hearing “BS” on a commercial break is something I’m genuinely surprised to hear.
9:13 - The Duracell "Walking on Sunshine" commercial featuring camels and the Powercheck batteries. Just press the dots to see how much power is left in your batteries.
Watched that when it originally aired and jfc it scarred me for life. It was so disturbing. Not surprising they stopped airing reruns of that particular episode.
Grrrr, I hated how Global did the simulcast/station substitution/ whatever CRTC wants to call that BS - only because Global frequently F'd it up, cutting parts of the show out. I watched directly on Fox Rochester or Buffalo when I could directly over the lake.
This whole telecast is Rated R.
You know, I was probably watching that very intro segment, waiting for that new X-Files episode to begin. I remember it too, it was f'n terrifying and apparently too violent for TV as I heard it was banned shortly after? I could be wrong though (about it being banned).
Wish I was living in Canada 😟😟
thats the episode called Home great episode!
This show stole my heart so long ago
Nice to see Scott Speedman in a Molson commercial two years before Felicity! :)
Watched it live..there was def a warning at start....what a great find.
Wow, I watched that when it came out. Creeepy.
Ah the 90's...gone to never come back.
It said Global but it just switched to the Fox channel feed.
Not a sim sub?
Kit Kat at McDonalds'!!! NO FAIR!!
I miss these days
Seen the movie "Sleepers"? Is it on Prime Video?
That theme song is from Sliders. It was good in its first season.
I vividly remember the moo milk contest. I so badly wanted to get one just to see how they got it to work.
Its funny how at the time we would change the channel or ignore them. Now i watch them and get hit in the feels.
You should do a compilation of various U.S. shows that say "On Global" under the title. Like on a Treehouse of horror episode, the title is blood splattering on the wall and it drips down showing "on Global" under it. Never understood why they went to that extreme for so long.
