That is a CISTERN in your basement! All the eavestrough would have emptied into it. The wiring in the corner would possibly power the submerged pump, or you may have had a piston pump outside of it. Some homes would have a cistern as a backup to a well. (An old retired bulk water driver)

Did you find the reason for the water in your basement? I had mystery water one time in my basement of my newly built house. Assumed it was foundation trouble. My contractor spent a few thousand dollars at no cost to me. A couple days later water again on and on for some time. Finally I located the issue. The outside water tap was insulated around it on the inside of the basement and this made it freeze and bust open. When it was turned off all was fine but when in use it would spray through the rupture a cause flooding in the basement. The repair actually cost me less than 10.00 dollars.felt really bad for the landscaping that was done at no cost to me but I never did tell the contractor what the real problem was. So maybe check your outside tap. Really enjoy your videos sir. Been a driver in Nova Scotia for a few years now. First ride was a 1974 R model Mack. Thanks for the entertainment.

Hi, I saw the videos of your house, ground water in the basement, streams on the plot. I have an education as a bricklayer and structural engineer and have 60 years of experience. My engineering education includes water, rain/wastewater, groundwater, geology, etc. Groundwater generally follows slope/terrain, but in some cases the geology causes groundwater to create pressure and seek the easiest way to divert water. It is often on top of a hill. In your case, it may indicate that the easiest way for groundwater to divert water is your basement. This may be due to the geology/permeability of the soil layers. Clay soil can encapsulate groundwater in water veins and water pockets and create upward rising groundwater. If you are lucky enough that your stream has a lower elevation than your basement floor, you can divert the water that seeps up into your basement to the stream by digging a perimeter drain around your basement foundation, to a depth below the floor level in the basement, but not further down than max to the bottom of the basement foundation. If the volume drain is to be further down, the volume drain can be placed further away from the basement foundation and a layer of gravel from the basement foundation can be placed under the volume drain. Calculations can be made on how far one must be in distance from the basement foundation to a volume drain and how much lower one can dig below the lower edge of the basement foundation to a certain depth, depending on the geology. In Denmark, the basement foundation is typically dug free, the volume drain is laid in gravel, the basement foundation is insulated on the outside with rockwool ground batts up to the top of the ground, which acts as an insulator, drain and capillary break. In this way, you can get a drier basement without condensation on the inside of the basement foundation. From the volume drain, a closed drainage pipe is laid to the stream, where there is a risk of tree roots penetrating the irrigation pipe. A volume drain around the basement foundation can work by gravity. If there is not a sufficient difference in height, a pump well is established outdoors, connected to an alarm lamp, which is switched on when the groundwater level is too high (above the basement floor). A pump well inside is a bad idea aht the humidity. In some cases, the groundwater pressure under the basement ground cover (floor) can be so high that a drainage line must also be installed under the basement floor. An insulation of the basement floor with a water and gas-tight membrane, a Rockwool ground bat insulation and a floor covering with underfloor heating will ensure your guitars, furniture, clothes etc. and a healthy indoor climate. After all, you will last many more years. Rockwool ground bats are also good for fire, heat and sound insulation in your floor separation. I watch your videos. They're interesting as it's a challenging move you drive and I'm equally versatile in doing anything, cars, construction and if there's something I can't do, I'm on YT and find videos. I have a RR P38, upright. It has been standing for four years now. It reports an error on the anti-theft device, which I cannot clear with the EyeHawk diagnostic tester. It is ten years older than your Peterbilt. Regards Per

Hello at the end of Winter. Oh man, so much work into this house and...tadda. and what a super nice result!
a home is always much more worthy and cosy, when you put a lot of sweat and blood and money into it, instead of buying one and moving just in. you are a very nice family and you could be very proud on your parents and yourself. always try to enjoy time with them, its so heartworming to have such parents...
the water in cellar could have been the reason, of a higher ground water level than ealier. as my parents and i lived in middle of ninetees in a house, we went for 16 days for vaccacion and when we came back, there has been 30cm of water in cellar. the regional government and water suppliers stopped pumping millions of liters out of the ground in some km distance, so with the late winter rain, the ground wate rlevel begun to rise to a level which it had been, years before the house was built. no one was told about their water pumping stop and the possible results.what we have been doing was digging all around the hose and seal the walls from outsde and sealing the floor bye drillholes filled with resin. and put a 5cm layer of resin above it. the insurance of the water supplier paid the main part .
or perhaps if at your house, the ground wate rlevel is normally as years before, you can dig around the house and laying some drainage hoses into the soul some cm below celllar floor level. makes some work and costs, but better than having a always wet cellar.. wish you all the best for finding an easy and cheap solution. enjoy your house and ground. awesome. and allways a good ride..
best regards from a capenter and truck driver since 90ies...

House looks great. Well done to you and your parents. I agree with some of the other comments. You have a cistern in the basement. There would have been some sort of lift pump in it. My thinking would be the fire has affected the integrity of the cistern. Or the tanking of the basement in general. Fixing up the cistern wouldn't be too hard. The basement tanking. Much bigger job. Or just do what your Mum said. Put in a sump pump to control what does come in. All depends on whether you want to develop the basement. Any room below ground level can be problematic and expensive. Control is often a better solution.

The rebuild of your house looks very nice, job Well Done. That electrical service panel wiring looks Perfect. One thought on the water in the basement, does the foundation have a drainage system ( drain tile in gravel) at the base of the footing where the block wall and the concrete floor slab meet? That drain tile would collect ground water & should run fo a sump pump pit. It likely was not in the building codes when the house was built. Also I would wonder what the normal level for the ground water is?

Dude that is so great. The house looks really good...👍 I think the little creepy room as you say, where the bodies go😂. I think that may have been a water cistern. Sometimes before a house gets a water hook up or a well drilled. A home owner would opt to put in a interior concrete tank called a cistern. So they could have water, it was usually brought in on a truck and pumped to the tank or gravity filled. Happy new year🎉let me know what you think,
