- Laine and Kevin walk through what remains of their beloved Louise after a devastating fire caused by lightning. After accepting the challenge to bring this amazing home back to life after years of neglect, we have all now lost this amazing piece of history. We will salvage all that we can and use for other restorations before razing her. Goodbye Louise. We will always remember you!

It has been three years, and I am just watching this and the pain it caused. I applaud you for not letting this discourage you. You have brought us so many beautiful restorations since then. Thank you for sharing ALL of the experiences you have had in doing this work. It isn't easy, but the rewards of seeing the other finished homes are immense, both for you and for your fans.
I am sorry for the loss of your Louise. My heart is aching for you. All through the video I haven't been able to stop the tears. Every time I see you Laine pick up something or try to wipe some soot away they flow more. I think of the time the energy and the love you both and everyone who worked to restore Louise put in it hurts my heart for all of you. My love to all.
Before I bought my 1908 home. I sat in every room to just get a feeling for the house. I could feel her soul.. I knew I had come home. I'm so sorry for your loss, and the loss of Louise and all her history. I cried tears for her today, months later. Looking forward to the new restorations.
I've been gasping in disbelief all through this video. I'm reminded of watching Windsor Castle burn in 1992 and Notre Dame a few years ago and this is no less sad but even more personal. I'm broken-hearted for you both as well as your immediate community. Our nation's treasures are a finite commodity. I hope you have yourselves a good long cry. 💓
I’ve lost a home to fire before. The emotions are overwhelming. I’m so sorry for your loss..words cannot express
My daughter(age 22) lost her home, cat, and every worldly possession except for the clothes on her back and her car to a fire. My daughter and I happened to be on our way there to grab a quick lunch and saw the house on fire. We were there and watched it burn to the ground … even the smell of a house fire is terrifying. The firefighters decided not to try and fight it. A total loss. It puts it all in perspective… I could have lost my daughter if that fire had broken out during the night. I’m so incredibly grateful that she’s alive …. precious family heirlooms are just STUFF, and maybe you can’t replace it, but human life is worth more any of the stuff.
I'm literally crying. What a terrible loss. I'm so so sorry. This isn't even my home and I only just found your channel yesterday so I can't imagine the pain you all must be suffering.
Thank you Brea. This happened in July so we’ve recovered a great deal. We have nothing to do but move forward.
Brea I am doing the same. My heart is broken! The lost history is devastating. She was absolutely beautiful.

This is just heartbreaking. I'm so sorry this happened. I just recently found your videos and I will be watching all of them. God Bless.
everyone being so careful and then lightening strikes the tree behind it and burns the house, mindboggling
That’s how my house burnt down. Lightning bounce off a pine and went right into the attic. My house is from 1850 and fortunately all the volunteer firemen got here quickly and were able to save our home. All the plater had to be taken out because of water damage. Fortunately, we had good insurance and they rebuilt my house and replaced all the contents. 15 years ago and I still relive it
The house is gone but the love and memories still lingers in your hearts. I’m really sorry for what happened. This is such a beautiful home.
I've only just found your channel. I'm so sad that you lost this gorgeous house. What a life she had. xo
Laine , I have to say that as a mother myself you reminded me of a mom as you went through the house checking everything out. The way that you cleaned off areas trying to make it all better again.
Mother nature can be cruel. But relieved to hear it wasn't from arson. Thats the worst news anyone can get.
I did wonder if it was arson?
I am a new viewer. I got interested in your Melanie restoration because I was born in Drew County and lived 15 miles from Monticello in Tillar, Arkansas in the 1950s. My grandmother owned a fabulous Queen Anne house built by the Tillar family, which was dedtroyed when a hundred year old tree fell in a storm and crashed through the house, so I totally sympathize with your loss of Louise due to lightning. I always wanted to move back to Tillar and buy and renovate the house, but I had a husband and family. Now when I could, the house is gone.
I live in a 1916 Craftsman bungalow in Illinois on property with a barn, corn crib, well house, and chicken house on property which has been inhabited by settlers since the 1830s. I love my house and am trying to take care of it.
Thanks so much for the fascinating, informative, and entertaining videos.
She was so beautiful. 😢💔 I am so sorry.
Im so sorry all of the work you put into this house, but thank God no one was hurt.
It’s heartbreaking but thankfully you found out a lot about her history and she gets to live on through your videos on here and all of the pieces you collected along the way.
I am DEVESTATED for you and your loss of Louise. To loose something in a fire is horrible but to loose such a treasure especially after all your work absolutely breaks my heart. May God bless and encourage you.
Our home burned down 4 years ago! I can definitely feel your pain! I’m so very sorry!!!
This was so, so heartbreaking to watch. I know a lot of people just see these places as objects...but they really become a part of your family.
When I was a little girl, we had this abandoned farmhouse down the road from us. A man had inherited this farm from his parents after they died and he had left it to rot. Y'all, this place was my Louise. Every time my mom had to go into town, I begged her to drive past "my house" to see it. She had this gorgeous porch on the side with the Queen Anne spindled woodwork. She was in rough shape, but I dreamt so many nights that I would fix her up some day.
I was about 15 when the fire department used her for volunteer drills. It took only 30 minutes for her demise. I was so devastated. It was like losing a first love.
I'm so, so sorry that this happened to you.
I just started watching your videos to inspire me on my 1929 craftman house....then I came to this! My heart is broken!
I was watching in earnest about Louise and how you were going to restore her. Then, I came across this episode and thought this is not true. What a loss, so sorry, very devastating.
Good Bye Beautiful Louise. Dear Laine and Kevin I will remember her and all the love you showed her and all of us following her journey.
sharon putnam thank you! Miss seeing your wonderful family.
I will forget many of the details of my burned house but I will never forget the smell. I could smell yours right through my computer monitor.
My wife and I am so terribly sorry for your loss. We live in a Victorian house that we are presently restoring and we don't know what we'd do if it was destroyed.
Breaks my heart. I can’t even imagine how y’all feel. I’m so sorry. She was a beaut! You’ll never replace her but I know you’ll find something just as lovely. Thoughts take with you 🥺❤️
I have no words 😢💔. So sorry for you both 💞.
Just started watching you and I’m binge watching but now I’m crying. You all lost a jewel there and I am so sorry for it. I wish you all the best even though I am so far behind on your videos.
Sympathies are welcome no matter the length of time since the fire. We’ll never recover from losing her- she was a once in a lifetime home.
So very sad to have lost this amazing house :(
I was living vicariously through you all as you were breathing life back into this Grand old lady.....
She truly went out in a blaze of glory!
~peace and love~
I just found your channel, I’m a subscriber now. I love old buildings and love to see them restored. I’m so sorry for your lost, but out of ashes something beautiful will happen!! God bless and stay safe.
Good buy louise, you will always have a place in my heart... and love in the hearts of others, through pictures, stories and memories❤❤❤
Laine and Kevin, thank you so very much for everything you have done and will continue to do for the history of the houses that time forgot and for the world of restoration... I will continue this journey with you as long as your willing to share it.. love you both
Im so sorry 😢 i hope many other old places will be around for many years.
I live in central Georgia and I just found your channel. I began at the beginning and was so excited at the preservation of this house. I was telling my husband about the house and I told him we needed to visit Louisville and see how Louise was progressing. Then I saw the fire and my heart was aching for your loss...we lost a house to fire and it was devastating. I love history and I hate to see it just crushed. I look forward to seeing all the awesome houses you save. Many blessings.
Nothing I can say really, I'm glad that no one was hurt, your neighbours were ok. Thank you for showing the reminders of Louise. It gives us closure if that makes any sense... On a positive note, you say you are going to find another old house to restore, I know I would love to see your journey as you search for your next one, then watch as you bring it back to life.... Thank you once again.. John in the UK
Oh, you guys. I'm so sorry. At the end, you made me cry, too. You're loved. You'll overcome this. 💕❤️
It so sad to see that old house burned down. I was looking forward to seeing it fully restored and beautiful. Sorry for losing your beautiful historic home.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. I think this is the worst nightmare of most of us old home owners.
I’m so sorry 😞 all the hours spent and work you’ve done.
Thank you Cathy. It was a heartbreaking loss
So sorry about you losing this beautiful house. You did so much work restoring her and she looked so beautiful and filled with so much promise. For what ever reason she was not meant to be but at least she was not neglected in the end. I only found your channel last night and love all the work you do. It is very time consuming with many ups and downs but the reward is worth it all. I love that you restore not destroy the integrity of the homes you take on your restoration journey.
I'm so sorry to hear about this. I'm crying with you. I love old homes, unfortunately unaffordable where I live. Keep up the great work, we'll keep watching.
So very sorry for your loss! Louise knows you tried your best to help her. Praying all goes well with the clean up! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!!💞
I cry along with you guys every time I see anything about Louise. You two show so much strength. I may not know you personally , but I love you! ❤️
This is heart breaking. I cried with you at the loss of this landmark. I hope that you can salvage something that will live on in another restoration.
Aww, Kevin was just breaking my heart with watching him trying to fight back the tears.
It's May 2021 & I've just started binging your videos. I didn't expect my heart to be so heavy and torn walking up to this house with you. I knew it would be sad, but phew that's a lot of emotion. I'm so sorry this happened. I know, like you said, this is just the beginning of things in this town for you though. I'm so sorry for you and the family who has history with this beautiful home. 💙🏡
Thank you so much
So sorry....bad loss
So very sorry
On a chateau renovation show they say to put old hardware in a fire to get off the old paint. They say it is the best method to remove old paint and they throw it in their Arga stove...It always comes out incredible..
Ouch. Painful.. Sad... I'm so sorry.
Such a terrible loss to you and to history!
My heart goes out to the both of you. I cried to see such a beautiful Victorian home lose of if it's integrity. So sorry 😞😢
OMGoodness. This is just heartbreaking. This is my first night finding y'all and this is my 4th video. I'm so sorry this happened to you all. I've not finished watching it but I think I'm done for the night, to sad. I will look forward to learning what you were able to salvage.
I've only stumbled across this channel in the last week or so, and I'm already so heartbroken for you. I was crying during this video. What a tragedy.
RIP Louise. You are fondly remembered. Thank you Maine and Kevin for being so brave.
How devastating and sad! I totally cried... over a house.
So so sorry for you both. I've enjoyed watching your passion of restoring this beautiful old house. Many of us have the same passion but don't have the same privilege as you both have of being a part of a gorgeous restoration. Because of your passion
and knowledge to detail I've always thought this could be a great TV show! I hope something works out. Also, thank you so much for responding to me personally when I ask about what had happen. I'm all the way in California and there's no news about what happened. Wish you both the best!
I lost my home I had lived in for 14 yrs to storm and pine tree through the house in Jan.2007 5 days later while trying to rescue anything that made it after tree was removed, we were cleaning etc and took a break to walk across to my sister's and the neighbors caught their rental on fire and it swept through my home 🏠 a sweet early 1905 2 bed cottage my folks bought and first rented to my sister and then me. It had sweet built INS a original kitchen sink and cabinets etc. I was and still am devastated. I mostly miss my photos and heirlooms, china etc from Mom and Grandma. Was barely able to escape & get out after trees started falling, I'm in my bathrobe, two schnauzer pups and nothing else but my purse. Watched tree after tree falling on or around my home.😭 Final destroyed by neighbors tree crashed over my car through the dining room and out living room. Such a loss. Folks sold lot after demo, someone put a mobile home prefab home on it. Eventually.my Mom sold all the homes they owned and we all moved. They built a brand new home on the back lot behind my brother. Been there happily for 3 yrs now.
OMG so sad! So sorry for your loss, it’s devastating ! I hope you guys had fire insurance against lighting.
Sorry for the loss.the home was so beautiful. I would love to see you on a TV DIY. How you explain everything. Good luck on your next adventure
This isn’t even my home and I’m heartbroken. So sorry…

So devastating but heart happy you'll be able to save some things form Louise to help other period homes be restored. She will still live inside those that get her saved parts. 😊
So so sad. Breaks my heart.
I just found your channel too. This is horrible. I just watched your video on the restoration. I know what I'm feeling. I can't imagine how you feel. What a gut punch. God bless you both. God bless your critters.

Although I’m relatively new to this channel I feel so sad about this, and how y’all must’ve felt.
I love old homes. So sorry for the loss.
looking at this footage is heartbreaking. i’ve been watching your channel for a couple of weeks and wondered about the house in the opening of each post...so now i know and to have her taken by an act of God, its just so sad. i’m so sorry for your loss but am so glad you moved on and bought other houses. it just wasn’t meant to be for this majestic beauty.

I just found your channel and love your passion! So tragic about Louise. That must have been so hard to recover from. Keep up the great work you are doing!
How very sad. My thoughts are with you.
This is heartbreaking.
I just found your videos today. I am heartbroken over Louise. I was looking to buy her two years ago. I want her blueprints so I can rebuild her. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. But so glad no one was hurt.
So sad, sorry for your loss😢
This is heartbreaking. .
Watching you all walk through the remains of the house brought back memories of me doing the same to my Art Deco house that burnt down 6 years ago. The tears are pouring down my face as you checked out each room and picked over everything in case it could be salvaged. I was left with the clothes I was wearing, my car and my dog. I managed to salvage a few pieces of 100 year old China and Crystal but that was about it. To add insult to injury, I was also looted and had my late parents’ jewellery as well as my own, stolen, among other things. Even now I still have therapy to get through the trauma of being in the house at the time. Time doesn’t make it go away. I feel your pain, Laine and Kevin, but know you will continue to bring these lovely old houses back to life. Take care and stay safe and well. With best wishes from Down Under 😘💕🏯😢🇦🇺
I’m so sorry. That’s tragic.
@@OurRestorationNation Thank you. I really appreciate it and am looking forward to seeing your next video. Look after yourselves. With best wishes from Di 😘💕🇦🇺
This is so heartbreaking. Your emotions must be raw n tears keep flowing. This was a beautiful house n once a home. What can you say when tragedy hits right smack in your face. Only words I can say is I’m so sorry this happened to you both. Here you are trying to save a part of history n now that history is gone. Fortunately I’m sure there’s much you can save n replace in another beauty like her. God bless you both n may He give you the strength to over come this one to only find another. ♥️😢😭🙏🙏
So Sad for your loss. :(
I'm new to your channel, and I'm SO sorry for this loss! It may be an "old house" to some but just thinking of ALL the memories made there through the years and all the memories that could have been...it breaks my heart
I just found your videos.
So very sorry for your loss.
I understand that it's not just a thing especially with all the natural materials that were used and hand made planks and trims. It's a monument to the Father/Creator God and what we can make with what he has provided.
How absolutely dreadful. I hope things have got better for you since the fire and my finding this video.
I'm sitting here crying for you!!!
Oh no!! I just came across your channel and immediately subscribed, so I’m watching past videos. So sorry 😢
Just found this channel and I'm heartbroken. I haven't caught up yet, but I know love and life do carry us on. Thank you for doing what you do!
Whaaaat? I just watched your tour of Louise this morning!
Heartbreaking... 😢
So Sad. The loss will take time. Hugs.
