    Your presentation was very thorough, clear and professional. I challenge anyone to attempt to match the depth and transparency of instruction this guy just displayed in this video. I don't think there's many people left in the world these days that could pull it off. Couldn't get much closer to flawless than this really thank you very much for the smart and safe idea and great work my friend, I will definitely be subscribing and liking and sharing this video and your channel.

    There is a can opener, mine is battery operated, that cuts thru the side & top/bottom parts of the can evenly, with no sharp edges, also allows the top or bottom to be neatly replaced almost invisibly, but still capable of removal. I bought mine at W-Mart for under $20.00. Works great esp if can or top is wanted for secondary purpose. I found it on a hanging display in the kitchen dept.

    This was some brilliant inspiration. Without seeing this video I would never have considered reusing a spray can in this fashion. Having checked the other videos on this type of project I can see why you advise people not to do it that way. This is a fantastic idea. I just wanted to take the time to properly thank you for this and the other videos you have on your channel. There are so many channels that aren't worth watching. I'm glad that yours is not one of them.

    In India we used this technique 15 years back...the pvc & epoxy for the long run will not make it as of mixing thinner will take it down..we just made a hole used valve that’s all works fine..for resuse of paint we jst used 20 ml thinner with syringe shake it spray it on empty surface & the spray can is ready to be used with other colors...45 psi is good to go as regular spray can does...many thanks

    The thing about PVC fittings is that the cups are tapered to promote a good glue weld the farther the pipe is stuffed into it (PVC primer softens the surface which makes that tapered cup weld to the pipe). That's why its important to hold the joint together for a few seconds so the glue can set up enough to keep that tapered cup from forcing the pipe out . Since E6000 doesn't set up as fast as PVC glue, you really should clamp the can down inside the cup of that PVC fitting so it doesn't slip out while E6000 Is still all gooey and slippery.

    Like your idea of using PVC.
    What if just replace the entire tube portion of the spray can with PVC.
    Find a way to secure top of the can to PVC tube like what you do with 3 bolts.
    So all need be done to replace the head is cut out another spray can to replace warn out plastic head.

    I enjoy your videos. Your instructions are very thorough. A comment about this project. How many times have you encountered a spray can (with paint) where the tip clogged, and all efforts to unclog the tip failed, which rendered the can and contents useless...I've had this happen even after following the procedure of inverting the can and spraying briefly to clear the nozzle.. It would be a shame to make this project only to have the nozzle get hopelessly clogged..

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  10 лет назад +1

      If you invert the can after each use, you should be fine(for paint). I have had problems with spray nozzles in the past. The solution was to pull one off another can. :-) It is fairly easy for me to swap out to a new can as well.
      Thanks For Watching!

    the best way to remove the bottom of a can is a can opener (the kind with the round blade on it)...works great

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  10 лет назад +1

      Tried that, it did not work well at all, and besides you cannot do that for this project. The end of the can needs to have 1 1/2 - 2" removed off the bottom, so cutting it clean is no good.

    More often than not a "used" aerosol can is not empty but stopped working because of the crappy nozzles on it. How to be certain nothing is left in the can is the problem before proceeding with this wonderful project.
    Is there a really "safe/foolproof" method of cutting that can open? What about wrapping in a towel?
    I think I'd better investigate a bit more thoroughly.
    Great video. I hope to try this soon for a pepper spray weapon. Thanks.
    Btw, can I just buy a nozzle and make my own can? Hmmm.

    wouldnt it be a bad idea to use any thing other than a hacksaw to remove bottom? I think any sparks at all may cause a small explosions even with an "emptied" can

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  8 лет назад

      If the can is completely empty, once you cut into it, if any remaining isopropane ignites, the pressure would be released through the hole made in the can. Start with a hacksaw.

    • @electronicsNmore

      +stephencarlsbad
      You can, but the liquid will always be in the valve. When pressurizing, you MUST lay the can on its side with the valve facing up, otherwise the contents of the can may spray back at you.

  • @lastchance8574

    • @electronicsNmore

      Pop rivets have a hole in the middle. Bad idea. Putting liquids into the can through the valve, is also not recommended.

      The pressure inside the can will be leaking through the "nail" in the center of the rivet.

    • @lastchance8574
      @lastchance8574 8 лет назад +1

      electronicsNmore we must be talkin about two different rivits because the rivits i use have a solid "nail" there is no hole. However there is a possibility of it leakin if the nail doesn't pull tight enough inside of the expansion sleeve and create a good seal. If i get around to makin it I'll let you know how it works out.

    The moving ball doesn't have to be taken out. And u don't have to cut the can!!! Just melt the rubber off of a valve stem then tin it with solder.. then drill a hole in the cape of the top of the can at an angle. Then u just solder the brass valve stem part in the cape of the can. And then now u have a refillable can just unscrew the sherdder valve fill it with your liquid of choice and put it back in and fill with air

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  5 лет назад

      Not a good idea to fill the spray can with liquid through a very small opening. As soon as you attempt to fill the can, it will run out of the stem making a big mess. Thanks for watching

    • @jamesduffy9756
      @jamesduffy9756 5 лет назад +1

      Ok have it your way and all bulky and not practical. I just took the brass piece of a valve stem and drilled a hole on the cans cape. If you know what the cape of the can is. It's the part that curves and crimps the top of the can to the body. And put my brass valve stem in and soldered it.. and I fill it up with whatever mixture I choose thru the valve stem with no mess at all. Then put my shredder valve in fill with 65-90 Psi and have a can that's not bulky and took five min to make.. if you don't get what I am explaining. Look up on RUclips spray can 3000 and he makes it the same way that I explained and it's simple and doesn't get in the way like yours

    I would have loved to see you fish the valve out of the side of the can. I suspect there was a whole lot of shaking and peeping going on. I dunno, I'll give you this... you're not lazy...but I suspect using this contraption with paint would be so messy unscrewing that big cap and paint running out, getting into the threads and everywhere. Can't imagine the cleanup if paint is used.

      It does last a while. Keep in mind, if you would like a constant pressure for use UNDER 80 degrees F(between 75 & 80 Deg F yields around 50psi) , you can always pick up a can of isobutane cooking fuel at a camping supply store and make a refill adapter from the can to the refillable spray canister using an old air pump hose. Isobutane is what is commonly used in spray cans. :-). Just remember like most spray cans, isobutane is flammable.

      Hi Stephen. 2 part epoxy is not really flexible and will not seal good under pressure. Use E-6000 or clear silicone glue. 30 - 40 psi is fine for spraying pesticides. Never pressurize over 50 psi. Thanks For Watching!

    Put the valve stem on the plastic screw cap at the bottom of the can,not the side as shown.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  8 лет назад

      Bad idea. Doing that will place the valve below the liquid in the can.

    • @rickguarcini2407
      @rickguarcini2407 8 лет назад

      That wouldn't matter the stem is sealed the can is turned upside down to fill.Once half filled with liquid and air,the air will still force down on the liquid when the can is turned upright.You can also leave the mixing ball in the can.Try it.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  8 лет назад

      Once again, bad idea. Once the can drops to a low pressure level, and you connect to the valve to re-pressurize, some of the contents will likely leak out. It is also not a good idea keeping the valve submerged all the time. Do as you wish, but my way is better.

    • @rickguarcini2407
      @rickguarcini2407 8 лет назад

      You still have to turn the can over to re-pressurize it.Liquid on the internal side of the valve stem doesn't matter.You can also put a weight on the plastic tube that goes from the spray head to the bottom of the spray can.That will hold the feed tube to the bottom of the can to ensure that all of the spray can content is used.Try it.

    Good, but I refill them without adding a hole. I force the propane or CO2 right through the valve. It's a little slower, but less messy. And with whipped cream cans, they use nitrous oxide, which has the same pressure as CO2. Whippets and CO2 cartridges are available at sporting goods stores. Crossman cartridges can be used, but there is oil in them, so no good for some products... but why drill a hole in the side of the can?

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  10 лет назад

      Your way can be very messy. Forcing the liquids through the valve? As liquids flow in, the air needs to escape otherwise when pressure builds, you will have the liquids shooting right back at you. My way also allows for easy cleaning of the can. The hole in the side of the can makes pressurization a cinch.

    OH MY GAWD....I watched the whole thing.....you need a kat to run the the view every once in awhile or something.......However, I did find it interesting. I don't even know I how got to start watching the refill videos. I wish you'd of show a spray tip working. I've never seen that particular spray tip work that way.
    Also if you've used paint, did you have to thin it? Now to thin oil, I usually use acetone, but that would mess with the PVC, would use turpentine.
    Anyway.......thanks for the video and get a kat, a mouse, a turtle for stage effect. I'll up you and subscribe......

      Home Depot has a unit with a one time aerosol use. For oil base paint it recommends 1 part mineral spirits to 4 parts material. worked good until I ran out of air. @ $4 a pop I am looking for something like this.

    • @kentrockwoodtyler8798
      @kentrockwoodtyler8798 8 лет назад

      When spraying oil I usually use Toluene at about half and half. It works well because it causes the surface to flash over pretty fast, meaning no runs. Yet the surface is still 'open' enough to let it flatten out. I'd be concerned that Toluene would melt the pvc.
      I saw that one you were talking about at Home Depot. Is think this is worth a try, but I wish he'd of shown it actually spraying. The E6000 can be bought online on Amazon or at Michaels.
      I dunno Tony, this seems to be the best one I've seen. Like I saw, I came across it by accident.
      I know there are fancy systems around, but they are very expensive and are used by specialty paint stores.

    • @fishhuntadventure
      @fishhuntadventure 7 лет назад

      Tony Lopez true. The preval is a nice convenience item, but gets expensive quickly and over time. This interested me but after watching and drinking coffee, even with my spare little compressor (3gal Craftsman oil-type), a moisture/oil separator and a little touch up gun (super low buck at harbor freight) I can have something that does a better job with no prep time, easy cleanup, and any material compatible. Sure, it's like $20 for moisture separator and $10-$20 for the gun, but... what's your time worth?! It's an excellent idea and project, but it won't put up with automotive lacquer thinner clean ups and isn't long term or as versatile. It's ok for some things to be bought. I'm a pro remodeler and mega diy mechanic and fabricator; my time is worth something and this cool little project will cost me more money in time to build than it will cost me to buy, and I'll have something very very useful for years to come and no searching for new nozzles when they plug.

    • @tonylopez9936
      @tonylopez9936 7 лет назад

      Well, the HD unit I bought was too expensive. I went & bought a refillable unit on Amazon for $16. Haven't used it yet but it is a metal spray can so any thinning agent will work. You're right about the separator. Glad you mentioned it. Thanks for the input. Very useful.

      Don't know about the method this guy used, it is interesting though, would be easier and faster to fill, especially for paint or something. But I only use mine for bulk WD-40 or similar things. I use the method shown in the video linked below (which is much easier to make, but a little harder to fill) and have never had a problem, and it works great.
      I usually use one of the WD-40 variety cans as they have the nice foldable straw cap, and I pump the can to around 95 psi, which is far below what the "failure rating" for even the cheapest aerosol cans, which is around 200 psi. As they are required to compensate for pressure that would be created if the can is left in a vehicle on a hot summer day or etc.
      ***DISCLAIMER: With that said, this is just my own experience. I do NOT advise Anyone to make Any modifications to any can or other vessel. If you do so, you do it at Your Own Risk.***
