There is unfortunately no inspiration. You saw it on the DS and especially the WiiU. It has use cases but the developers have to do lots of extra work to utilize it. So most end up just mirroring, or using it for a map, or some separate mini games.
One example of it being used right is in ZombiU (Zombi for WiiU) - the second screen was inventory. When accessing inventory, the main screen switches to a third person view of you accessing your backpack. Meanwhile, you're literally accessing your backpack on the WiiU gamepad screen, while glancing up at the main screen periodically to check for zombies. It was exciting and completely missing from the ported version.

It might still be a bit on the pricey side for a handheld device but given the hardware and performance on it, its getting real close to affordable which was nothing but a pipe dream a couple years ago before the Steam Deck showed up. The market for this kind of handheld is also getting good with a ton of gamers now being adults who grew up playing DS and 3DS and are very nostalgic about their games rather than people like myself who grew up playing the OG Gameboy and the Gameboy Advance.

WAY too many people complaining about the price. To me that is insane. You are getting a FULL BLOWN windows PC with dual screens (one at 120hz) and good specs in a portable form factor smaller than most laptops for under $1000 (unless you go with the highest spec model). Most laptops and tablets with similar specs and features cost about the same and in some cases over $1000 and they only have 1 screen. The only real downside is the battery life but that is usually the case when a new device comes out, especially one like this. I'm not saying it's cheap, however the price is more than fair for what it offers especially when compared to the competition.

You can get a full gaming laptop for $650 straight from Lenovo with an actual dedicated graphics card, DDR5 memory, and a 144hz screen. This thing is interesting but you’d have to be insane to think it’s a good deal. It doesn’t even have a graphics card.

When it comes to Citra and getting both screens to be "fullscreen" on separate monitors it goes as follows:
Open and choose a game. After it's launched toggle the separate screens and move the second screen to the second monitor.
Close Citra completely. Open it back up and when you choose a game, the screens should start out in separate windows. Move the second window to the second monitor and use the fullscreen hotkey to go fullscreen.
Put the main screen's window back in focus by clicking it, use the hotkey for fullscreen. Now both are in full screen.
However, not sure how well this will translate to Flip DS, but it should work the same as it's still happening in Windows.
