I love this song, because it's such a great example of his range.

This song is from the second Hobbit movie, The Desolation of Smaug. The dwarves (and the "clone" names) are, from left to right: Kili (Geoff), Bofur (Jeff), Fili (Goff), and Thorin Oakenshield (Daryl). Geoff says clone Jeoph took the video off. Rick Underwood did a fantastic job of recreating the looks from Misty Mountains Cold, reusing the actual hair pieces from that video. Kathy pulled the costumes and props together, reusing pieces from MMC, as well as from other videos, such as The Rains of Castamere. Eli did the lighting cues, and Ed Boyer is the mix engineer. Fun fact: The snare drum sound was created using a shovel in dirt and in sand.

This song is from the 2nd movie of the trilogy, "The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug". But it's sung by Eddie Sheeran during the end titles of the movie, as far as I understand (didn't watch the movies... I read the book 😇). I don't get why. 🤔
But, were I to make a movie from The Hobbit, I'd rather have this version IN THE MOVIE than Ed Sheeran's on the end titles. Understand me, Sheeran's version is a beautiful song, but Geoff's is literally a movie within the movie and has a WAY more fitting mood. 🙂
    See you next time!

Haha you’re right, Ed Sheeran sounds way too pop to really fit within the actual movie

The instrumentation is so pretty because Geoff loves to use unexpected sounds. Brush snare? Two shovels - one in mud, one in sand. That chorus with the higher piano? Add (I forget what it's exactly called) what is an equivalent to a glass harmonica. And there's more than just those. Throughout this song, and others he's done.

Thanks for the info! Like you I always look forward to the interesting instrumentations; every once in a while he does something really surprising!

First, your description references your reaction to High and Dry.
Second, I love the solo for tenor Geoff, the only other full solo he's gotten before is in Geoff's Sound of Silence.
Third, the raw emotion Geoff is able to depict in this one. That sadness, despair, courage, and determination in the face of danger and destruction is perfect.

I’ve seen this so many times, starting with the patron previews. But for some reason, a strange feeling bought came to mind.
I wonder if the others in the video ever make fun of tenor Geoff for his high voice?

Why are you using a word in your title that connotes negative emotions for a video that you clearly enjoyed?
A lot of people like it, too, as it just passed the 1M view mark less than two months after its release. It's a gorgeous song and video.

Hey ya, thanks for the feedback! Perhaps “Cringe” might not be the best choice, but other similar words (eg flinch, recoil) also have negative connotations so I just went with the one that came to mind 😅😅
