When Covid shut the world down, Voiceplay had to stop touring. Since he had some "extra" time, he started doing solo work. His catalogue is not extensive, but he's been putting out a new cover almost every month since then. If you check the credits, you will see that he does almost everything with his wife, Kathy. They were using Pattycake Productions for the location with some set pieces from there, and an outside makeup artist that he and Voiceplay work with on a regular basis. Eli Jacobson, the bald tenor does the lights and effects for Voiceplay and for Geoff when something out of the ordinary is required, like this one. People can debate which bass can go the lowest or the highest, I don't get involved in those. In my opinion, and I'm always right, Geoff has the best voice; the quality and resonance are just wonderful. He almost always shows himself multiple times for the harmony. He did a version of Sound of Silence earlier this year where he did not show the harmonizers, although they are there. I subscribed when you first reacted to Voiceplay - I am always here for them and Geoff.
What people sometime forget with these "crazy low" singers like Geoff and Tim is that it's not just hitting the notes, it's hitting the notes and _making_ _them_ _sound_ _good._ Actually I'm technically a low bass and I can replicate that slide down, but the difference is that the sound I produce at the bottom is not something you'd make admiring comments about (or, indeed, want to listen to a second time)!
Awesome reaction John. Yes. It's all Geoff. He's portraying 4 of the dwarves from the Hobbit movies.... Killi.... Bofur... Filli.... Thorin. A year ago he did "Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold" from Hobbit 1 with the same dwarves. It is also very beautiful.
"Misty Mountains" is the most popular video on Geoff's solo channel, but I wouldn't be too surprised if "I See Fire" doesn't catch up to it in a year or so.
You HAVE to see Geoff Castellucci “Ain’t No Sunshine.” That will also blow you away. Thanks for reacting to this. ALSO, I hope you are still going to react to more Pentatonix 🙏♥️
I love this sooo much. Geoff's cover is so sad and melancholy. I cry every time I watch this. Geoff always impresses me with his arrangements. Eli did an amazing job with the lighting. Great Reaction as always!!
Geoff invariably uses this method to show his versatility. He also creates all the music in the background too, in case you aren't aware. Some of his videos are the work of just him and his wife Kathy, as with his latest - Folsom Prrison Blues, but other times as with this one, he gets some help from other VP members, usually Eli doing the lighting. It's all in the credits though.
I was so glad that each of the 4 characters had their own ranges. When the lighting turned to red you could hear the crackling of the fire. I've seen all the Tolkien films so it is dessert to hear them by someone who is so talented. By the way, have you reacted to Drunken Sailor yet? If you are interested in a VP mini, they have several new ones. Peaches is from the SuperMario Brothers and Geoff also hits a Bb5 for his new high. The Wellerman is superbly done especially for a mini, albeit a nearly 2 minute mini.
I love this one. Other favorites of Geoff (Jeff) are House of The Rising Sun, Man of Constant Sorrow and believe it or not, Monster Mash is my absolute fave of his 😂
In VoicePlay, about 90 to 95% of the arrangements are done by either Geoff or Layne, splitting them about 50-50. And whoever does the arrangement does everything including the video and the editing and costumes- the whole thing. (Eli is the tech wizard and handles lighting most of the time as well as any other technical requirements. He has done two solo arrangements: most recently he did an absolutely stellar copy cover of Creep by Radiohead.) As a result, Geoff has become very proficient in arranging for multi part harmonies. And with only two exceptions, he will record each part himself, then film a clone of himself to sing that line. in addition, he does all the instrumentation using plug-ins. Up until fairly recently there was a lead, and then the rest of the clones provided harmony. This one was outstanding because each clone got a very distinctive part. I always find it fascinating that the clones interact with one another. The timing on that must be so split second. A few years back he did Misty Mountains with the same four dwarves. But they had not gone up into the Mountain yet so their costumes were slightly less elaborate. Fortunately the make up artist kept the beard and hair pieces and they were able to reuse those as well as most of the costuming from the first time around. Misty Mountains is still one of my favorites because it is so beautiful. It’s very soothing. This one is not and I love it because of its power. Make sure and reserve time in the next few months for the Halloween season. Both VoicePlay and Geoff put out something related to the season. Sometimes it’s a song that talks about spooky things other time is it straight out Halloween and they absolutely kill it every single time.
This cover should come with a warning label like "sudden drops ahead." Man, I had to pick myself up after that bomb! Great song and impactful cover! Thanks.
***SPOILERS FOR THE HOBBIT MOVIES*** He covered another song from The Hobbit and dressed as the same four dwarves. The dwarf he plays with the highest tone is Bofur and he is the only one of the four to actually survive at the end of the movie. Knowing that makes it even more sad when he sings lines like "And if we should die tonight, then we should all die together." and "If the dark returns then my brothers will die." fantastic cover.
I'm glad you caught this one, thank you for that! I think, due to the beauty of the song by Ed Sheeran, it's the most >beautiful< song covers of Geoff (I intentionally don't say "best", there are too many 'best' songs from different views or emphases). Additionally, this is a great showcase of Geoff's vocal range, not only from background vocals, but for the lead parts, too. 👌
It’s so beautiful! I’m looking forward to seeing you react to more Geoff and VoicePlay! I especially enjoy when you speak about his singing technique, I think that’s so interesting!
I just found your channel and have fallen down the rabbit hole. I would love to see you do a video on Chase Noseworthy, he also has one of those gorgeous bass voices. I love this style of video and you do it very well.
Loved your reaction- thanks! Voice Play and Geoff solo have released some new ones this week- I hope you will be checking them out as you will really enjoy them.
No one in the world, and I mean this sincerely, if they spell their name G E O F F, they do not pronounce it GEEE-OFFF, it's just Jeff. WITHOUT EXCEPTION.

I love your reactions. So glad that you watched this. Next you need to watch Geoff ( Jeff) do Ain’t no Sunshine. So good.

Or sooner. It's already at 1.2M in 2 months.
This year so far all the guys are kicking butt.
@@ronsbrat525 Indeed they are!

No matter how many times I've listened to this, I still get goosebumps. Definitely one of Geoff's best covers so far.

Dan Vasc almost brings tears to my eyes singing this song
I love this one. Other favorites of Geoff (Jeff) are House of The Rising Sun, Man of Constant Sorrow and believe it or not, Monster Mash is my absolute fave of his 😂
John....a new obsession...holy crap! Thanks!
"Geoff" is just "Jeff." Old world spelling. Love your reactions and commentary.
Love his voice! My favorite of his covers is 16 Tons. So good. ❤️

Love the genuine admiration in your eyes as you watched Geoff do his AH-Ma-Zingness! Blessings and Positive Vibes as always, sent your way!
Its so cool to see you checking out geoffs solo stuff! Hope to see more from you!💜
This cover should come with a warning label like "sudden drops ahead." Man, I had to pick myself up after that bomb! Great song and impactful cover! Thanks.

Sounds like you've discovered a new rabbit hole...
What the heck?!?! 🙀🤯
Its also Geoff playing the music/piano.
I just found your channel and have fallen down the rabbit hole. I would love to see you do a video on Chase Noseworthy, he also has one of those gorgeous bass voices. I love this style of video and you do it very well.
Your reactions are top notch young man, love your content keep it up TOODLES
This was so good.
"how a bassist would cover this"
Jokes on you, the man can literally sing any part, no matter how high or low.
Loved your reaction- thanks! Voice Play and Geoff solo have released some new ones this week- I hope you will be checking them out as you will really enjoy them.
He has got to complete the Hobbit trilogy and sing The Last Goodbye from the third movie.
Have you reacted to Dan Vasc doing this song?
Love your reaction to Geoff, but his name is pronounced "Jeff."
No one in the world, and I mean this sincerely, if they spell their name G E O F F, they do not pronounce it GEEE-OFFF, it's just Jeff. WITHOUT EXCEPTION.
its pronounced Jeff not ge-off
He's singing too low for the song. It should be low, yes, but also rising, mournful, and clear.
