    That orange is totally my jam (marmalade.) I don't typically like cathedral hands, but extending it for the minute hand completely changes the footprint. I don't own a Zelos but I've had my eye on them for a while, and this might be the perfect place to start.
    Thank you for the great review.

    That's a gorgeous watch. They will probably bring out blue and black in a year. I don't own a Zelos, but I think they are a micro-brand that will still be a collectable in 20 years.

  • @JustWatches1

    Great review, I was curious about how the orange would look and I'm really glad your review featured that colorway before launch. The movement is definitely based on the Miyota 9015, if you look up tear downs they have basically the exact same architecture, however, many of the components in this new movement are more refined. I think it will be a solid performer, but only time will tell :)

    • @chia-mingyang5804
      @chia-mingyang5804 2 года назад

      Yep G100 looks like an upgraded 9015 in materials and specs. I won't worry about its reliability and performance at all.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  2 года назад +2

      So it's basically a "Super Swiss Made 9015"? Which makes sense. Citizen probably acquired them for Swiss Made parts for their Swiss brands. That's basically what Fossil did by buying STP.

    • @chia-mingyang5804
      @chia-mingyang5804 2 года назад

      @@RelativeTime If I am not wrong Citizen has bought them for near ten years. Before this G100, actually their products are higher-end and has no relation to Citizen/Miyota.

  • @grahamwallace

    It’ll be interesting to see how these sell. It used to be the case that new Zelos models pretty much always sold out at launch but that’s not been the case recently. Nearly all versions of the Swordfish 40, Great White and Mako releases are still available on their site. I’ve bought the Swordfish Bronze and Hammerhead 3 but ended up selling them for a combination of reasons including the dial diameter being too small and the bracelet being rough and unrefined. I’d love to try again with the Spearfish but just lack a bit confidence in the brand now. Great review (as always)!

    • @chrisufo05
      @chrisufo05 2 года назад +2

      The biggest reason that they're not selling out is that Elshan has greatly increased the batch size. That was in community response complaining that they always instantly sell out and everything on the site is sold out. I don't think that was the right change to make, but it's his business.
      I've always been impressed by the quality, making Zelos one of my favorite brands. The larger batch size is my only complaint. It used to be that I could try a watch pretty much risk free, now it's harder to sell on the secondary market.

    • @shiznuts
      @shiznuts 2 года назад +1

      I'm kinda confused on what's going on as well. Is this a 'standard edition' that will get new batches or large quantity batches?
      They have done limited edition engraved serial models, I have one myself, but if every one of their watches was not in their standard 'place to order'-catalog, then a special limited edition, isn't so special, when they sorta all are. I've got myself a Mako V3 Ti-Damascus, 1 of 100. But I'd happily buy a Burnt Orange Spearfish at some stage later this year if it's gonna be readily (or backorder) available (it's just that I'm moving in with the gf and that sorta got priority :P ).

    • @grahamwallace
      @grahamwallace 2 года назад +2

      @@shiznuts I suspect that the orange dial will be the one that sells out quickly. That happened with the yellow ‘bumblebee’ Great White leaving all of the others still available.

      I would tend to agree with one exception - I really like the forged Carbon model, but if you don't, that's cool, fyi there are a few green colorways left at the early bird pricing... better - I already have a green Mako 3, so I went with the Burn Orange. Better hurry, as of this writing, half the colorways are gone.

    I have a Tisso Seastar Powermatic 80 which is now priced at over $750 with a much lower beat rate so this offering from Zelos is very unique at this price and represents a great value. I have a TI Swardfish.
    I hate the quick release bracelet mechanism. The quick release pins protrude and bother my wrist. I tried replacing them with standard spring bars, but among the the couple of dozens I have, none are the same thickness. So end links become loose, with a lot of movement.
    I think I have to take original quick release spring bars, cut the protruding pins, and finish up with a small file and sandpaper.
    So I bought a "job project" from Zelos 😠😡🤬

    I have alot of watches . . A dozen or so. Yet a Casio WV 58 keeps the most accurate time of them all It does more than any watch Even Rolex can't do what this Casio does. $30 . SO The other watches I have, stay in a box and only come out when I go out on trips. Spending $500 on a watch that you might wear at most 30 times a year, because you eventually wear the Casio everyday when working

    These colors are striking, but polarizing. I think many buyers are going to find them compelling, buy one, then quickly grow less happy with it, kind of like the guy who buys a bright yellow Corvette. I would not want to be among the first buyers to essentially beta test a brand new movement either. Value? It remains to be seen.

    I do think this is a great offering from Zelos. I would not compare this to the Swordfish, I think it's more aligned to the Mako V3. The Mako has an upgraded Miyota 9015 movement and similar dimensions currently at $549. For $100 more, this makes it a good value proposition compared to the Mako V3. Better upgraded swiss movement with extended power reserve, slimmer and better dimensions overall.

      Good point, however, remember the mako 3 ti was $449.00 during their early bird launch special. And the Spearfish will be $749.00 after their launch special ends on March 15th. (that's a full $300.00 difference) apples to apples, oranges to oranges...

    TO ANYONE CONSIDERING BUYING THIS WATCH:
    I just received my (Burnt Orange) Spearfish yesterday, and the watch arrived broken. While I was sizing the bracelet, I noticed that it hadn't started running yet and the rotor wouldn't spin. To my astonishment, I could see a small screw wedged between the edge of the rotor and the caseback. Upon closer inspection, it appears this was one of the screws that connected the 3/4 bridge to the mainplate of the movement. Not sure how it fell out (the threads appear intact), but this is a very concerning QC issue from Zelos (and LJP's new movement).
    The bracelet screws are also very poorly machined and hard to work with -- they strip VERY easily.
    I reported the damaged movement to Zelos yesterday, but I haven't gotten any reply yet. At this point, I think I might send it back for a full refund unless they can offer me a longer warranty for a replacement. Very distressing :(

    Another fantastic review of one of the VERY BEST microbrands on the planet. I wasn't a fan of the burnt orange by the looks of it on the Zelos website. However, your review incl real life shots of the dial have changed all that. It is gorgeous!!!!! Looks more coppery in certain lights. Might just have to get me one, along with the meteorite dial. The new LJP movement is the cream on top, here. No disrespect to the Miyota 9000 which powers many of Zelos offerings, this new boy is on a whole different level. At 649 USD, this is worth every penny. As you stated, get it while you can. Of course it's not perfect, the bezel action is a bit stiff and they could have put another couple of layers of AR coating on the underside of the crystal, lume isn't up with the best-but who really cares.Get a digital clock if you want to see the time at night. These, to my mind are minor issues, and I'm sure that most of the Spearfish dial variants will sell out before you've boiled the kettle for a cuppa!

    This is a cool watch but after a number of bad experiences with Zelos I think I'll wait to see that movement in another brand. I'm rooting for them, but I think instead of continuing to pump out new models they should focus more on the fine details, like clasps that work and don't fall apart, cases that aren't razor sharp, bezels that actually turn, indicies that stay glued to the dial or screws that refuse to stay in the bracelets. Until then, pass.

    Nice! I'm really on the fence for this drop. It's definitely a higher price than normally. Anything north of $500 gets into non-microbrand territory. And $650 gets you in that range of Glycine, Hamilton etc.. Now, knowing Zelos it's a near perfect piece again, but still... I'll have to talk myself into this one 🤔 And decide if I'm getting it with the drop it from Serious Watches, because tax, imports and customs fees. They kill any reasonable deal here...

    • @RelativeTime

      That's true, after all the taxes & fees it would probably be closer to a grand. A lot of the price is because of that movement. I've heard it costs more than an ETA, but I don't know how much more.

    I have the swordfish V1 (43mm) and the V3 (40mm titanium). Love them. Have 6 Zelos’s in my collection.Each one I purchased has been a little more refined or gives you a little more value for your money… Have not been disappointed yet. I had an issue with a bracelet, set an email, got a response the next day and the bracelet was shipped out and at my door a week and a half later… Great customer service!

    Thank You the review Sir. ♥
    For me personally I love the look of this particular watch, and i think it has the sexiest, most well balanced sunburst dial i've seen.
    I also like how the bezel design is held back a bit, so it wont take any attention away from the dial.

  • @haping1

    Great review Shane. Thank you. I don't have a Zelos yet, but this is certainly one to think about. The dia!, hands and case are perfect for me. I love the orange sunburst, but you're right about the lack of some basic colors. But that's maybe the signature of the brand. But for me I think do I wear this "fancy" color still over 10 years?
    The movement I consider as a pro. Looking so long for a watch with extended power reserve and higher beatrate.Maybe a Longine with 19000 bph, but that one comes with a much higher price. If there aren't any issues yet with crown or hacking, I guess the only issue could be exesive wear in the long run. There is for sure more force in the movement because of the longer power reserve. But Citizen introduced this movement already more than a year ago and I haven't heard of any issues. What about the duration of the warranty that Zelos gives?

    It's a fantastic looking watch with a great movement! I hope this movement will appear in more watches soon. My favourite colour versions are this orange, the green as well as the copper version with 12-hour-bezel. Nonetheless I hope that this is rather to complement than to replace the very affordable NH35 powered Swordfish.

    • @RelativeTime

    Shane, as always a great review. Thanks for rushing this one out before the launch. Despite being a Texan who is fine with "burnt orange" in general and especially for a sports team I'm not inclined that way on watches. This one though looks pretty cool and the copper also. Just not cool enough to get me to order I think so I fall into the camp you mentioned that would have loved this watch in more traditional blue or black dial. Probably would have preferred that as I like the rest of the style and features. Also, for the same money I could get TWO watches that I've been pondering for some time.
