My top watches from last year was a Christmas present for myself--a San Martin SN051-G in blue(Omega Seamaster 300 Heritage) and an Octopus Kraken homage to the Omega Seamaster 300m. Both are excellent homages to a wonderful brand. I also have an "almost had"--a Rolex day/date that could've had from a thrift store for $150 + tax. It was an "almost had" because I looked at it (obviously to see if it was real) and thought I would come back on it. When I came back it had already been bought.
I got a feeling that Seiko stumbled upon making the Mojito as nice as it is. Because the Cocktail line has a playful, whimsical connontation to it, a piece like the Mojito is cheaper than it would be if it was simply released as a standalone.
My wife also hates automatics, and also stole my SWC Ark. She wears it all the time and it’s now hers. Every time I see it, I think- wow, what a great looking watch.
Thank you for all your great content so far! Your story telling and photography are impeccable! My watch of 2022 is definitely the CW BelCanto! You deserve about 10 times more subscribers than you currently have!
Nice selection of various watches Shane!👌🏼 I’ve got 2 Cuda model watches & yep the lume is ABSOLUTELY NUTS!😍🤤 I like the metal case for the Casio AE1200. I have several models, actually 4, & have worn 2 of them the last 2 days!😎👍🏼🇦🇺
Hi Shane - I live in Dallas (well in a suburb called McKinney, Stonebridge Ranch), TX too and love all things Texas like you! I am also a scuba diver and I have a large collection of watches (I need to sell some, this is beginning to be a problem). I didn't know that Jack Mason is in Dallas, I will have to check it out. Oh, by the way, I have enjoyed all your videos of 2022! I hope you have a very happy and successful 2023 my friend!
The Axios watch looks very nice, however I think they use blue AR which would look 👎🏼 on this dial. On the teal coloured dial it might be 👍🏼 but 38mm is a bit small for me.
I absolutely respect mini brands but in this collection, except for seiko, everything else is very overpriced quartz on the Rhonda movement should cost $10 but not 200 automatic watches From mini brands in the case of a steel bracelet starts at $15 most between fifty and 80 there is no point in buying they are more expensive so as always Seiko wins
dude "top" watches list and no mention of the Vacheron Constantin 222? Forget about dozens of other watches that best the list you gave? how my "my favorite" list or something more realistic.
Well the title of the video is "Relative Time's Top Watches...". Plus as I do every year I make sure to point out at the very beginning these aren't the top releases of the year, but my favorites that I reviewed that year. I've done this exact same setup 4 years in a row, so plenty of warning beforehand. Also as a side note I'm really not a fan of those kinds of videos. As most of the channels that do that haven't seen most of those watches. They're just throwing up stock images and repeating specs. There are some exceptions of course, But how do they really know they're the best of the year if they haven't seen them in person? For me, those are the real click baity videos.
@@RelativeTime sure, I gathered that after starting to watch, but to be fair to me, your video photo just states" Top Watches of 2022" .. and no offense man, none of those watches even make the top 1000 from a watch making perspective... heck I'm pretty sure many are made in China,. This is like making a video with the "Top cars of 2022" and list Chevy Cruz, Kia Forte, and Honda Civic, while leaving out Bugatti, Porsche and Maybach ... catch my drift?
@Sams911 I do, I just disagree. Since we're on a car tangent, take Motortrends car of the year... I don't think I've ever seen it be a Maybach or Bugatti. Typically they are cars real people can buy. Sometimes mid-range, sometimes high-end. So there is always some subjectivity to those kinds of honors., and I guess you're looking at it differently. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell ya. Out of almost 20k views, you are the first person to voice an issue about it. Perhaps it's just because you are not familiar with the channel. Although since you are not, let me just say that whenever I do any sort of Top List... It's always limited to watches I've actually seen. Just for future reference. As not only do I have actual footage of those watches, I actually have real experience with them. It's just one of my rules, I don't really believe in ranking or talking too much about things I don't have first-hand knowledge of. Regardless, thanks for giving it a shot.
@@RelativeTime I watch high horology content among many other things on RUclips, and RUclips sent me this video as a recommend so I clicked (yes the title page was a bit clickbaity sorry)... but also yes, clearly not my area of interest as I progressed from entry level and low end watches 30 years ago in my early 20's when I bought my first Omega.. My floor for a top watch now begins at Rolex and if that sounds like I'm a snob, it's because I am... proudly so a watch snob. .. Ok...Take care and hope your channel does well.
The only disappointment with the #1 Seiko for me Shane, is the fact that the date is not at 6, like a lot of your other favourites. All the best for 2023.
The videos that you make are very detailed and onto point for a watch collector. I just recently started on this journey. I wanted your take on : TISSOT CHEMIN DES TOURELLES POWERMATIC 80. Would you rank it anywhere close to the rankings you have provided in the video?
Great list Shane. I think I must order me up a Cuda. I just love me some lume. Just trying to decide on dial color. One of my favorite watches of 2022 is the Aquatico Sea Star bronze watch. I just ordered the new version as well with T100 tritium tubes and SW200 high beat movement.
I got the green full lume, it's so dang cool and its nice for almost everyday for me and where I am from (a sunny island). Though after a week I do imagine the blue or white being a better everyday watch since they seem less busy.
I heard the LJP movement was like a Miyota 9015 so I asked a watchmaker who had one and he said it was totally different. They do look similar but, and this is what he said, they're not related other than both being owned by Citizen.
I have a problem with your list of the top 10 watches for 2022. My problem is I like almost everyone of these choices and feel I need to buy many of them. And with a collection as large as mine that is a big problem! Thanks for bringing these watches to our attention. Lots of winners here!
Great review. I actually prefer the Spearfish to the Seiko. Best watch I reviewed this year was the Christopher Ward C63, even though I reviewed a Tudor and a Rolex
Here we go again, more watches i didnt know about that i now must have, thanks for that, i own an Adamascus AD8 blue which is a stunning watch, id say my best purchase of 2022
Seiko save the ocean blue turtle for me. I was going to buy the number 1 on the list, but ended buying the seiko shark teeth alpinist and the turtle. Got 2 for the price of 1.
My top watch is my Zelos Aurora w MOP mosaic dial. Why the top? Because it is mine!. I don't have many watches yet and will not spend major $$ on watches this close to retirement. It is a jewel of an inexpensive watch for a boomster like me. It is a one watch collection that can do it all. It is unique, tough, comfortable and good looking. All this for under $450. I luv your top 10. Hopefully, I can add some of them to my modest collection. My taste in watches seems to run very close to yours. Thanks for your work and blessings for the new year!
2:25 i think the main improvements I would add would be an inwardly sloping border around the date window and a day feature. I know the latter would mess with the default-mid-century-dial look it’s going for, but I’m just thinking it would be congruent-and enhance-the strong basic functionality it’s going for.
Great bunch of watches. My watch of the year was an unusual one for me. It is a solar powered Pulsar chronograph that I love. A motor sports theme with 100m water resistance that can stay alive up to 5 months in darkness. Of course Pulsar was a Hamilton company that released the iconic Pulsar LED watch in 1972. It was sold to Seiko in 1978 and is a brand with very high sales and often ignored by watch channels for some reason. They seem to be more popular in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Sounds cool. One of my first watches was a solar pulsar 3 hander. I made a video about it a while ago, but at this point it's over 20 years old and still working.
Can you do review on watch cases? Nice rouch with the fidget at 11:05 You are on the Jack Mason site, in one of their pictures, well does look like you...😮
Do you mean travel cases or like bigger watch boxes? That’s probably me. They hosted a meetup with Nodus and a few other brands a couple weeks ago. They aren’t too far from me so I went, got there just as they started taking some photos. So just luck that I’m in them.
Enjoyed your picks and thoughts. I've been tempted by the Wise. Wish it had a bracelet . Can't decide between the colors, Though I keep telling myself I don't have a red dial watch. Happy New Year!
This year, I sold off a few & promised myself I’d sell a few more, & bought a blue BB58! It has barely left my wrist since I got it in August. I did put it on a Forstner “O” bracelet; I couldn’t get a comfortable fit with the Tudor bracelet.
Sort of. It sounds like they were in development about the same time. Yet they are in totaly differnt price ranges and function differently. The NH34 is set to be a fantastic movement for afordable "Caller GMTS". While the 9075 is a higher beat "true GMT" or "travelers GMT" setup.
@@RelativeTime that is great, since officially they don't have to, right? As always a great video! My favourite watch for me was my Breitling Superocean Heritage 42. It is the previous model on a mesh bracelet with the unusual colourway of a silver/white dial and blue bezel. Wore it alot when wearing something blue. I probably bought and sold about 10 watches this last year and for me the zelos spearfish GMT was the top purchase. Maybe because I got the stunning aventurine dial but I just love the quality and comfort.
San Martin Original Design NH35 Automatic Watch SN085-G. Awesome design, gorgeous watch. Not named by you or any other channel. I don't see how this one got overlooked. (You have a great channel, by the way. You're a really good presenter with excellent delivery. Much appreciated.)
When you bring up quartz watches in a negative tone it creates a negative image. Sadly, all of the RUclipsrs do this. Just remember, quartz watches keep better time and there are no horrendous service charges.
Not just RUclipsrs, but there is a very vocal cross section of the watch collecting community that don't like them. Some of their arguments are legitimate, but mostly they aren't. Like the whole "no soul" thing is stupid. A mass produced NH35 doesn't have any more soul then a mass produced quartz movement.
@@RelativeTime rather than soul, think about we are getting energy from a piece of quartz. That's futuristic, like Star Trek. We within a decade or two of being able to do this with vehicles by using an alternative. You are a scientist. One would assume that you appreciate this. If all else fails in my argument, just a reminder that more people buy quartz watches 😉
@@lymankohl1284 Well I fully appreciate quartz. Especially the more interesting applications, like high accuracy. It's just that since so many other people are biased, I attack the problem with humor in an effort to get them to stick around. People's attention spans are so short as it is. Anything helps.
@@RelativeTime, I agree with you that the notion of a watch having soul is ridiculous. Do they think the better the movement, more soul? I wonder what watch St. Peter is wearing?))) 😉
I just discovered your channel and its becoming one of my favorite watch channels! You communicate in a well-read, but not pretentious, kind of way. Love it!
My favorite watch if this year is my Chris Ward Trident pro 600. I purchased it 2 weeks before they announced the trident pro 300, so I have the bulkier watch. Probably my most worn watch is my San Martin SN004 LE red pip diver.
I love my baby Marine Master 200 Save the Ocean too! Definetely overpriced, but the dial is so interesting and I love the case shape. So when I found a good deal, I jumped on it and I wear it a lot indeed.
Great selection of watches. In relation to No. 1, the Seiko, there was a question in your original review about whether the bezel is aluminium. I have the 63 mas PADI version special edition 2018. I think the bezel is the same. If so I can definitely tell you that it is aluminum because I have scratched mine however it appears to have some diashield coating on the bezel giving it some protection and the scratch is less noticeable.
I'm late to this New Year's party (video) since I've been busy with a family party, but always love this video series. Thanks again for a year of great reviews that really help. I guessed a number of the watches that would be on this list but didn't try to guess the order. Keep it up in 2023 and continue to be the best watch channel on RUclips. Happy New Year.

San Martin Original Design NH35 Automatic Watch SN085-G. Awesome design, gorgeous watch. Not named by you or any other channel. I don't see how this one got overlooked. (You have a great channel, by the way. You're a really good presenter with excellent delivery. Much appreciated.)
The hands are ugly, reminds me of a pinball machine 😂
Love it!
Thanks and Welcome! Takes a bit to make these videos, but I enjoy it.
I picked up an Orient Mako 2 this week. Blue dial.
My favorite watch if this year is my Chris Ward Trident pro 600. I purchased it 2 weeks before they announced the trident pro 300, so I have the bulkier watch. Probably my most worn watch is my San Martin SN004 LE red pip diver.
Hard to go wrong with any CW, bulkier or not.
I love my baby Marine Master 200 Save the Ocean too! Definetely overpriced, but the dial is so interesting and I love the case shape. So when I found a good deal, I jumped on it and I wear it a lot indeed.
Great vid Shane. All great choice. I too love the Jack Mason GMT and the MM reduced.
Thanks! Hope you had a great new year. What are you looking at these days?
@@RelativeTime wanting a Panerai base logo hand wind model. Very very simple watch but $$$$$ ouch!
I figured it was, but good to know for sure.
What happened when the kickstarter project was cancelled? Did you get your money back?
In this case, since the creator canceled it all, the money was refunded back.
Good to see you Shane.
Thanks
Great choice. For me spb 355 -. #1
I’m going to check out jack mason now!
I forgot to add my top watch acquisition of the year was the Silver grey Mandala Mk 2 followed by the Hamilton Khaki King Champagne dial.
Happy new year to my favorite watch channel and most of all, thank you!
Thanks! Happy New Year to you too.
Great video and watch choices, the perfect summation of the year. 👏
Thanks!
