Oh my god. It tells the same story from two different perspectives. The emotion of this song kills me and you don't even need to hear it say a word. It is talent beyond compare.
I always thought it was just some kind of reverse delay pedal effect but wow. It's almost like they composed the song backwards so when they played it backward it would come out forward....but still have the "backwards" effect.
+Jackk ronchi Will You Ever Love Yourself and The House Where We Grew Up are equally as good. But each Hammock song brings out a whole new experience for me so i can't really say which one is my fav. I think i've went through so many new emotions with all of them, i'm just happy Hammock exist.
One year ago one person ( gone already :( )shared this video with me, thank you for you made it, i have a little souvenir which always reminds me about her. I listen this everyday.
The impermanence of life is something to be happy about. Living forever isn't something we should strive for. Time keeps marching, even if we don't want it too. Seasons go by, love fizzles out, people get older and wiser. Things will be okay, in the end. They have to be. I'm so angry as of recent, angry at so many things. I'm not an angry woman, but I don't like being angry when I am. It hurts. I wish I wasn't angry. I wish I was as calm as the forests are during winter. I wish I had someone to love. If I could cry here, I would.
It saddens me the most that this is still getting compliments up to this day no matter how many years ago the commentary. It's scary the fact that five years ago used to be 2012. Five years sounds like a very long time but 2012 doesn't sound like it at all. Just makes me wonder what all of those first commenters are doing now...
Im a commenter from 4 years ago... Im still here. Life has changed but I'm still in love with this song. My dog died a few months ago and we played this during her burial. It will always make me think of her.
Mono no aware (物の哀れ?), literally "the pathos of things", and also translated as "an empathy toward things", or "a sensitivity to ephemera", is a Japanese term used to describe the awareness of impermanence (無常 mujō?), or transience of things, and a gentle sadness (or wistfulness) at their passing. I literally need this song on my phone please !
Well I guess they did it on purpose. Reversed piano and guitar is a common effect in that genre of music. But for the whole song to sound perfect reversed! It is a masterpiece.
+Alexander MacLean they wrote the entirety of the song the way it is reversed, then reversed it and added more instruments for the final song on the album. thats why some parts are reversed when its played in reverse still. wow this is confusing
In my opinion the music is even better this way around, and the video is just as beautiful in either direction, though in slightly different ways. I also think that many parts, possibly every part, of this song was very likely reversed by Hammock themselves to make this song (compare the piano in this version to the noises that can be heard in the forward version), so this version of the song seems to me like it's kind of returning it to normal, whereas their version was probably meant to distance the song from clear melody lines and things to make it more ambient and harder to pin down. Both are great.
Wonderfully said. I actually was able to learn to chords in the beginning (or end in this case) on piano, and when I reversed it, it played identically to the beginning of the original version, they are absolute geniuses
It sounds normal in reverse and first time i heard it it sounded backwards so instantly i googled it backwards, and its making me sad i never had friends and my whole family died when i was young ;(
Actually this sounds like the album version in in reverse, and this version is the original. You can tell my the piano. I wouldn't be surprised if more have there songs have are reversed on their albums.
I never noticed until recently, but the bedroom and hallways are a mess, as if she wasn't the one living there... could she possibly be a well-dressed vagrant?
I really don't think it's your right to change the artists music subject to your own curiosity. Why don't play Beethoven backwards or put the Mona Lisa upside down? I've always been curious about how that would sound or look? You're not part of the band and if the band wanted this version that you put here they would have released it tat way Many people may have liked what you've done but I can guarantee Hammock did not and they really are the ones that count. Please don't denigrate or radically change their music that they have worked very long hours as artist to achieve.hetr...pleas leave it the way it was meant to be.
Oh my god. It tells the same story from two different perspectives. The emotion of this song kills me and you don't even need to hear it say a word. It is talent beyond compare.
Ray serrato great observation
Play this version and the original version in a different tab at the same exact time. Absolutely amazing.
I always thought it was just some kind of reverse delay pedal effect but wow. It's almost like they composed the song backwards so when they played it backward it would come out forward....but still have the "backwards" effect.
zero dislikes, this song is flawless.
6 years later from the statement

Wow I never knew that was a reversed piano...

for all who likes the song, you can hear to Olafur Arnalds (Y). Excellent work my friend, it is really beautifull.

Brilliant!!!!
2022 se escucha genial. mágico.
Did anyone notice that the piano sound at the end was *actually* reversed *in the original version* and this video *fixes* it?
Maybe the song was meant to be backwards???
+Stanley"Labladorite" it was haha

pun not intended. But this gives me so much chills.
I came back after months and this is still so beautiful! Thanks again for sharing...any chance you have bounced a mp3 of this?

"Maybe they will sing for us tomarrow" ... .....
this reversed version reminds me the Dead Island trailer, which is nice song and touched scenes like this :P

Shut the fuck up.
You cant speak for Hammock lol. I’m 4 years late but it seems like you’re the only one who has a problem with it.
