I saw this same line up May, 1990 in Ft. Worth when Travel Log came out. It was incredible! I was only 23. I stayed up all night, drove up to Norman, OK, meet up with friends then drove to far eastern Oklahoma & took canoes down the Illinois River, camping overnight.

JJ Cale was,and still is, unforgettable, his genius is so evident when he plays. To my great regret I didn't get to see him, but, because there are some good people who can deliver some fabulous videos I can dream! Thanks JJ.

He gave us music that no matter how many times I hear it I'm never bored and want something else. I'm grateful that I saw his presence; it wasn't easy as he preferred to be in the background, but when he played and sang he bared his intellect, which in music was anything but monotonous. Humble to the end.

This is killer!!! I learned half of what i know about guitar playing and song craft from JJ. He showed me that it's ok to lay back.....you don't have to be a shredder to speak on your instrument. He was an epiphany to an 80's metal kid like me. Changed my life and truly moved me, more than any school or religion ever did.

I have watched/listened to this upload many times over the past year. What a wonderful performance by an incredible artist and a great band! I went to the same enormous Tulsa Central High School as JJ (or Johnny back then), but had no idea what had become of him until after his death. I have become a huge fan since that time and only wish I could have seen him perform live. I do spread the word as often as possible, Rev. Bob, and hope we can keep his memory alive....Though the great music SHOULD do that on its own! Thanks for this and your other JJ posts.

JJ Cale has been an inspiration to me since I was turned on to his music by a girl friend in 1982. Luckily he came to our town of Virginia Beach just after that. Though I only got to see him once, I sure feel blessed. I don’t know any other musicians who could play, record, and produce the music like he could.

You were there? That must of been a blast! This was a great show. I was lucky enough to see JJ probably 5 or 6 times through out his career. Every show was an incredible experience! When I walked away from a JJ Cale performance, I always felt my life was just a little better than it was when I walked in. That, in my book, pretty much defines "a religious experience". A moment in life that makes you a better human being! Thanks JJ for giving us your music, and thanks to Joe Stebbins for watching!

In an interview with Eric Clapton they asked him who is his favorite I believe musician guitar player and he didn't hesitate or skip a beat pun intended he said John Cale . I got to see him in Portland 20 years ago He signed the Aladdin theater poster of his gig for me. He shook my hand twice .He was the kindest laid back musician that I've met. I still have that feeling today as I did when talking to him thanking him for his music but he reached his hand out to me to shake my hand twice. Anyway at that show small theater 700 people I was mesmerized and I had a pretty good up front seat up front I was mesmerized by his right hand how rhythmic melodic it was moving, hard to explain certainly hard to copy maybe next to impossible to really get what a person does down. Also I listen to an interview not long ago of him talking about how he could never play like the people that he liked when he was younger So he just developed his own style of playing and It developed into of course a one-of-a-kind his kind of note playing. I thought how fantastic that was because I am no way comparing myself to JJ Cale And the reality is I could never play like Stevie Ray or Eric Clapton Jeff Beck So I realized years ago you just start playing for yourself and driving one note home at a time and it doesn't matter how many notes you play and that is how you play those notes with feeling anyway There's one more thing I'll leave you with there's a saying that the most important note is the next one JJ Cale certainly will be missed forever

A friend gave me a tape of J.J in the 80's and I now have almost all his recorded music. How I wish I 'd seen him live. Who ever did is very lucky. Clapton tried to kill himself on drugs and drink and had more women than the Brigade of Guards and yet he still had the fortune to know this man and record with him. Life is not fair. What a talent. I bet he was great company. Anyone meet him?
