- When he died recently I went searching for the interview we did for 2010..It was one of several over the years. He hated being insidea and I was his last interview of the day and that made him happy.... a likable guy...I remember going to see him at Navarre Beach Fla near Pensacola at the Holiday Inn there which was the headquarters for Jaw 2..as in Jaws 1 the efx people were in the hotel parking lot working on the mechanical shark..a lot! He loved the sun...One of my favorite actors..never saw him in a bad performance..
done in LA 1984
Roy was my Dude. Blue Thunder I have seen 50 times. Love you Man RIP
RIP Martin Brody! Died in 2008! You were the best character in Jaws! I watched Jaws 12 times in a row to remember you!
***** Yeah i think i may know that
Caitlin Lindsay *Robert Shaw*
Fine actor. 2010 was a great sequel imo.
He came across as a very grounded guy.
He will be missed
What a great guy. I can definitely see him being a good friend.
Today would've been his 87th birthday
RIP Roy Schieder 1932 - 2008 :(
I always admired him since childhood. He looked like he was slightly uncomfortable having to answer these question as though he was thinking "why does anyone care about my opinion anyway?!". He was one of a kind.
He was one of those guys that really grabbed your attention while he was on screen.
Fantastic actor. Jaws, The French Connection and Sorcerer are some of the best films of the 70s. I must still watch 2010
You'll love 2010. One of my favorite films of the 80s.
Good guy, great actor. R.I.P Roy
he was there for a friend in need.
I love you Roy Schieder thank you so much for your great acting in the 2 Jaws films.. I really need to see more of his work.. so sad he passed away when I was alive and I didn't know..
They don't make actors like this anymore.
He may be best remembered for "Jaws", but "All That Jazz" was his best role and performance.
I'm absolutely with U!! Too bad that he never won an Oscar for his great performances! They shoulda given him at least a life achievement award!
He was really good in Marathon Man.
Jaws is his best film, but All that Jazz is his best performance. Still he should have won an Academy Award for any of his performances as he was truly one of a kind and the best at what he did. It’s quite unfortunate he never won an Oscar for any of his performances.
Roy, I want to sit down in Heaven and have a conversation with you just like this. You had an enormous impact on my life.
I liked Roy as an actor but I've never heard him in an interview. He was a really bright, articulate and down to earth person. I'll miss him.
the INTERVIEWER on the other hand...
The French Connection, Jaws , Marathon Man , Jaws 2 , All That Jazz , 2010.
I've always liked Roy Scheider. I've sought out other movies he's done after being exposed to him in Jaws. Later in his life he became a big star.
Folks always called my old man "Brody" from as early as I can remember because of his resemblance to Roy in Jaws.
Watching a sweet man like Roy give a pleasant interview makes me miss my dad a great deal... Thanks Roy. You're really and truly missed by a lot of great people.
I really enjoy watching roy in movies,Jaws is my 1st joint favorite film of all time.
My favorite movie of all time.
so far before his time.... SeaQuest was like star trek under water... He did Sci Fi right, and my generation is better off for it. Thank you Mr. Scheider.
one of my favorite actors and a fantastic sequel aswell
Like when I watch him act in Jaws and in real life it's almost like it's the same.. like literally he's performance is so real..
Rest in peace my friend.
Hes such a handsome looking man he must have gotten all the girls in school.
HE seems such a nice guy. And he was a great actor.
Very underrated.. there is no one like him.. he's a mix of Al Pacino, Harrison Ford, and James Stewart.. he just has all those traits..
Excellent actor and very likeable guy.
He was also brilliant in The French Connection (alongside Gene Hackman) , as Dustin Hoffman's brother in the creepy thriller Marathon Man. And of course as the iconic Chief Brodie in Jaws (one of the finest films ever made). Seems quite an amiable guy in the interview (no ego).
Yes!
He was an amazing character actor!
One of my favorite actors EVER. I was disappointed when he accepted his role in SeaQuest... because that show was completely beneath an actor of his caliber. And I don't feel bad about saying this, either... because as I understand it, Scheider wasn't very happy with that series, either.
Great actor. Very naturalistic in his roles.
Down to earth man........no wonder he was so good .
Hey Jimmy, thanks for this! You are extremely fortunate to have met the great Roy Scheider! I've always had a feeling he was a great and humble guy, as well as an awesome actor! He is one of my idols! He portrayed the ultimate common man who uses his common sense to help save the day! Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of your videos! You just earned a new subscriber! :)
RS had a lot of heart, and it really came through in his acting. And this interviewer really asked good questions.
RIP Roy and I'll catch ya later! Blue thunder!
thank you for this upload. i was just a kid when roy came to my attention (76 or so, i was 11) i am not a movie historian but i know my shit. anyways roy was intense, funny, and committed to his craft. from "the french connection" to "marathon man" to of course "jaws", you could tell he didn't mind gettin' dirty with some of physically demanding scenes he did. i had respect for roy as an actor but knew nothing about the man. interviews like this shed new light on a man that i have even more respect for now.
R.I.P ROY SCHEIDER !!!!
He was a very down to earth guy.. thats what comes across
I love Roy in Cohen&Tate. Such an underrated film. I can't find Roy's or Adam Baldwin's thoughts on the film anywhere on the Internet I'd love to know what they thought if it.
I watched this last night. I have to say i didn't care much for adam baldwin his acting was abysmal
I watched it the other night, Roy was good in everything I saw him in.
My favorite actor..
Look how his face changes to the mention of Jaws 2.
I really understand why he hates it universal forced him into doing it and he honestly didnt have a fun time shooting it even the first one. I mean Spielberg didnt have a fun time making the original jaws either. Its just one those films is much more fun to watch it than shoot it.
I am a fan of his. I was sad when hearing of his passing. The cool thing about movies is that when you're watching, even if the person you're watching has since passed away, you can still be fully engaged with them as if they are magically alive again. My wife calls that "living in the past" when I watch home movies of my mom when she was still alive. I don't agree. I'm glad audio/video recordings allow one to occasionally '''time travel", and visit with those who have left this particular reality. I find no flaw remembering them in such a way.
So true. It's like nostalgashop
You’re gonna need a longer interview
RIP Roy Scheider, you were a terrific actor.
By the way, I find it hard to believe that he had fun making Jaws when production on that movie was a trial by fire.
Cohen and Tate I feel is his finest work. Just my opinion. Great actor.
we need a bigger boat!
I'm sure many got confused thinking this interview was filmed during 2010.
@Jw Nj
:
The interview must've been conducted c. 1984 when _2010: The Year We Make Contact_ was released.
Fascinating! He never did strike me as a standard celebrity type. Since his natural presence -gaunt face, awe inspiring physicality- was often part of the character he played, I always wondered what his background was. 52 Pick Up was somewhere on RUclips a while ago. I also liked Sorcerer, Marathon Man and The Fourth War. Only Scheider could play these parts well.
Jaws
The French Connection
DSV
To name th a few
But the one film stand out fpr me was Blue thunder
Top Ten Roy Scheider films:
10: All that Jazz
9: 52 Pickup
8: The Russia House
7: Still of the Night
6: Tiger Town
5: The French Connection
4: Blue Thunder
3: 2010
2: Marathon Man
1: Jaws
He was so "the man" in the 70s and 80s. Great body of work. These films are SO memorable...even today.
" The Seven Ups " is a great film too !!
If we're talking about his greatness in movies, I will pick All That Jazz to #1
Sorcerer!?
Thank you! Top5 right there
He's character of chief Brody is my favorite fictional character of all time..
Everyday I always think that he is still there with me
My mistake - I forgot he made the film "2010" which was what this is for. Apologies
My girlhood crush which started when I saw him in Jaws as a 7 year old and still holds true 40 years later
He was great in Marathon Man too.
A truly underrated actor.
Hes such a good guy I cant believe he died when i was a young kid.
Great actor and a classy guy.....
The kind of guy you want to sit down and have a beer with. Top notch actor too.
A little surprising that Hyams cast such a recognisable actor (after 'Jaws' especially) as an everyman lead character, but Scheider was both a talented actor and a really engaging screen presence, so I guess it makes sense. Lithgow, Balaban and Mirren were all less well known at the time.
One of the greatest actors that never won Academy Award.
Rip miss you angel luv jaws , sorry you passed on my bday
Sadly he died 2 years before 2010 - the actual year, not the movie.
Same happened to Stanley Kubrick. Died in 1999, two years before the title of his movie 2001
Roy was and still is INSPIRATIONAL. Catch you later..........
Roy Scheider was a biggist Actor.👍
I liked that SeaQuest very much.
Magical interview! Great questions! Thanks for sharing!
class
For me a terrific fantastic outstanding actor. I miss you Roy.
This was done around 1984 for the move 2010. He died in 2008.
Chief Brody
"Loss of a good guy".. Absolutely.
I Think Roy Is Great!
that was cool why did he hate JAWS 2 ? thanks for posting
A bit untimely to answer a question after 11 years... but the main reason was that he did not wanted to be in the sequel, but was obliged in order to fulfill a contract with Universal. The production was also problematic and took a long time, with the firing of the original director and the suspension of the filming for rewrites and the hiring of a new director, Jeannot Szwarc, whith whom Roy Scheider had constant fights during filming.
Your gonna need a bigger spaceship
@MustangScott2000 Now that's one of the funniest things I've heard! didn't think of that one and wish I did :)
Love Roy Scheider!!!
Wow I miss him. We all go someday but I still can't believe he's gone? It's 2012 he should still be here with us. I was watching ALL THAT JAZZ with commentary and it was like he was in the room with me. Bruce the shark may have been the main star in JAWS but Roy shure did hold his own. Thanks for this clip. Still can't believe he's gone
I remember people wondering why I was laughing so much in the military.
Of all the celebrities that have died during my lifetime, Roy Scheider is the one I miss the most.
Looks like this was filmed in the 80s, & then uploaded on here about a month after he sadly passed awayin 2008, great actor! Mostly picture him as chief Martin Brody :)
Great interviewer - excellent questions and interplay.
No briefly they discuss the movie "2010" which Roy stared in.
I thought his best was 2010 the year we make contact
My 3 favourite Roy movie's we're Jaws, Cohen and Tate and The Fourth War.
Here we are, 2010 as we speak. We haven't even returned to the Moon, not to mention setting up a base there or even starting work on an expedition to mars. The whole world would participate in that miracle, but nooooooo. Warrack O'bummer stops it dead at start of project Constellation. Mars has 24h day, 38% Earth's gravity, and an atmosphere of mostly CO2. Of course it will take hundreds or thousand of years to adapt this planet for our colonization, but WTF are we going to start???
He always reminded me of my uncles. This street swag authoritarian.
Roy Scheider is one of the greatest actors in Cinema history & one of the most underrated. Roy's a great screen presence & one of the most interesting actors ever.
if u dont know who he is then u dont no wat the best cinema is...
His best performance is in jaws Cohen and tate r.i.p
He's like a gene Hackman that didn't have as much success...so genuine...
Roy was the best!
Such a fantastic actor, you made me want to be a film director. You are so loved Roy :)
I dont understand the title of the video, 2010? Roy died in 2008
such a sweet man
I just watched the men's club a terrible movie but his funky dance scene is brilliant.
I remember watching an episode of Family Guy where Scheider and Dreyfuss guest starred. The latter was doing a parody of his Narrator Role in Stand By Me and they made Joe's Narrator to be Roy. They did both a Jaws and 555 number joke which made me laugh so damn hard. The next day after I found out he died soon after that role. It was nice to know he went out on a laugh. Stars rarely go out on a laugh.
The interviewer is so bad.... and he's so good.
But his from the Movie (JAWS)
When i watched Jaws He suddenly became my favourite actor a.k.a only favourite actor saddly he died by cancer
he made jaws and jaws 2 hes awsome my favorite carichter
