      Funny enough many camera companies use something similar to test ibis. Its actually not a great way to replicate hand shake as its a totally different type of shaking compared to vlogging (not enough side to side). Reason why fuji’s ibis is so damn bad

    I use the XC 15-45mm on the X-T3 for my travel videos. It's wide, has OIS, and extremely light. I previously used the XF 18-55mm but it was a bit too tight and a tad heavy to lug around my neck the whole day. I wish I had the X-T30 to pair with my XC 15-45mm for travel though for the ultimate lightweight combo!

    Great stuff. Though I will say, for just selfie kind of vlogging, the XC15-45mm OIS is really hard to beat. You can grab it used for around $100-1$50. Got mine, open box, from a camera shop $140. Leave it at 15mm, open it up, relax your arms since you no longer have to stretch to get your head and everything in frame, and you're good to go. Whenever I'm doing a stroll through the park vlog with my Switchpod+XT4, the cheapo 15-45 goes right on there. Even though you may disagree because it is kinda.. not a great a lens,, I think more people should snag the 15-45 and just treat it as a 15mm prime! Haha. Reviews have shown it's sharp enough, and totally optically good at 15mm f/3.8. Just getting a decent 15mm lens for $140ish is neat.

    I switch between the 16 f1.4 and the 10-24 for video.
    The 16 when it's locked down on a tripod and set to manual focus, the 10-24 for anything handheld and auto-focus.

I did a ton of research and came to the conclusion that an X-T3 with a 16-80mm was the right choice, so I made the investment a couple of weeks ago. You’ve given me even more confidence than I already had. Cheers!

    Love KEH I have bought many lenses from them all great. I have the 10-24 and 16 f/1.4 and find the 10-24 to be a great vlog lens focal length wise. The 16 f/1.4 works well on the X-H1 the 10-24 is decent with the X-T3 but I find it to still be a bit shaky without a gimbal. Thanks so much for the great video. Cheers.

    You didn't mention some lenses from and for Fuji, which are worth mentioning for vlogging or otherwise in my humble opinion:
    1) Fujinon 18-135mm f3,5-5,6 OIS. It's not the brightest lens around, nor particularly wide but it's a great allrounder with amazing focal range, lightweight (just a tad heavier than 18-55) and if bought in a kit you can get it for next to nothing.
    2) Fujinon 16mm f1,4. Yes AF is not the greatest but that aperture and IQ for shooting / vlogging handheld at night you simply cannot compensate.
    3) Samyang / Rokkinon 12mm f2, so still quite bright. If you don't mind manual focus of course. Yes it's quite wide but if you vlog in 4K the (Fuji) camera will crop in x1,2 anyway so you are good to go 😁

  • @WillJBailey

    The 15-45mm is the best Fuji vlogging lens. 15mm is perfect; despite looking like a toy it’s relatively sharp; it’s very quiet, has OIS, and is extremely lightweight.

    Is the exposure of the 18-55 also bouncing if you set the aperture to f4?

    • @professionalpotato4764
      @professionalpotato4764 3 года назад

      Exposure changes with every Fuji zoom lens. It's an issue because of lens compensation profiles and/or aperture changes being applied in steps.
      Even if it's a constant aperture, since f-stop is focal length to iris size, for the f/2.8 or f/4 to be constant, the iris has to change as the lens zooms. In other lenses it's mechanically coupled, but Fuji does everything electronically.

    Another great review. I just bought the 16-80 and plan to use it mostly for video. But there is the issue of the lens losing focus and exposure when zooming in or out. But maybe you guys don't zoom much when vlogging. I assume the 16-55 wasn't on your list because of the weight.

    I think currently the best vlog lens is the 16 2.8 at least for a gorillapod or switchpod setup handheld facing you. I just tried the 18-55 and it was way too close to my face. Could be the crop factor too idk. Granted I was using the switchpod maybe the gorillapod could be held a little further back.

    the main conclusion that i get out of this is that fuji still has a long way to go to give good video lens in their line up and i think just updating their current line to have OIS or update the focus motor system to be more quiet and the aperture dial to have a smooth option will be the biggest improvement they could do in their camera line.

    • @AndrewGoodCamera

      It is a reflection of their priorities. I think Fuji puts a lot more r&d into their primes.

    • @JayGrapherTh
      @JayGrapherTh 4 года назад

      @@AndrewGoodCamera well i think the 1.4f primes would still benefit what the f2 primes have - better auto focus, and more quiet.
      im not really knowledgable to understand why its not he case besides that it might be older - would be too big/expensive or maybe the 1.4 that's better in studio environment dont need the same speeds as f2 that are smaller and built for out door street photography

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  4 года назад +1

      @@JayGrapherTh The larger glass primes would have to be a lot larger to support larger linear motors to move that heavier glass more quickly and more silently. The 90mm f2, with that silent quad linear motors, is a good example of this.

    The focus wobbling of the 16-80mm seems annoying at around e.g. 11:34. The lense on the right, doesn't seem to have it but maybe it just is the different angle.
    That and sound is nearly my biggest concern for video. But I'd also use a stand or a gimbal...

  • @manuelb8808
    @manuelb8808 4 года назад

    Nice try but I'm afraid I have to disagree with your conclusion Mr. Andrew. Once you introduce into the equation the price and give the lens' weight the appropriate value, the 16-50 is the winner by far. Not only the latter is much lighter but the new 16-80 is 8 times the price! And its video performance is far from adequate as it has all the flaws of fuji zooms for video; focus drunkenness and exposure flickering when zooming in or out. Other considerations are, OIS is effective enough in the 16-50 at 16 mm and it's quite sharp a lens even if background separation isn't something to write home about.

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  4 года назад +1

      I didn't care about price for this. The 16-80 isn't quite as performant while zooming, it's true. But that's an edge case for us. 18-55 is great too.

      You mean a lens that has OIS (optical image stabilization. Only camera bodies have in body image stabilization). I would not necessarily recommend an image stabilized lens for XT4. I know it's counter-intuitive but you don't get more stabilization. It's usually better to go with a non-OIS lens on IBIS bodies. But I haven't had the Xt4 to test with yet.
