I wanna join the navy, but I’m only 14 and have a long way to go, yet I’m worrying about what the standards to even enlist are or how hard the Armed services test is as well as basic training and all that as well as how you can get kicked out of the basic training.
I joined like a year ago, basic is just mental if you can force yourself you can make it through I'm not special in any way but I just made myself get through it. The aptitude tests aren't hard you get what you put into studying and what you know.
Do they have an equivalent of this in the army or any other branch? Are engineering Duty officers in general engineering? You mentioned a master degree. Is it a specific master's degree or just any type of engineering degree that qualifies you for a specific form of engineering. Like an engineering duty officer masters degree or if you want to be a navy electrical engineer, you have to get an electrical engineer masters?
I'm a retired EDO. There are similar occupations in the Army/USAF, but the Navy is unique in how we develop and employ them - ours have to first qualify in a warfare area (surface, submarine, aviation, etc) and then get an Engineering Master's Degree in a field (ME, EE, SE, are common). Navy then puts their EDOs in prime leadership positions to drive technology develop and weapons acquisition alongside our civilian acquisition workforce. A very small group of people is responsible for leading the huge amount of work that keeps the Navy technologically superior and also keeps our current Navy operationally maintained and ready. It's a fantastic job!
@@vdog3248 They don't have a name that I know of, but they get a special MOS that designates them as Program Management. My brother is one in the Air Force, he went into the field straight out of college, never serving in a front line capacity like I did as a SWO before I transferred to the EDO community.
MIT is a pretty easy school to get into at least for graduate level. I live in its proximity. It is doable for the civilian, so I don’t see why navy officer’s wouldn’t be able to get in there. The only school that s hard to get into is the MIT school of business

It is crazy that this guy thinks a woman who is an EDO and is narrating an official Navy EDO video doesn't know what she is talking about. Mansplaining is an epidemic.
@OliviaHill-justforfunsies if you read the above comment I was corrected. Yes majority of the time EDO refers to the engineering duty officer on a ship for that duty section. I had no idea. So before you can me names get your facts straight buddy boy

@@sneakerboots if you willing I would love to hear more about your time as an Edo it's something I'm considering currently.
They send you to MIT?!?!?
Not everyone goes to MIT--that's a pretty selective group. But I know a large number of officers who've gone.

Quite sad 😭
Ready to die really 😢
This is not remotely accurate of what an EDO is. It's a watch position not a job you can select.
That’s different. This video is referencing the 1440 officer designator which is also called EDO.
@@calebmacdonald6189 95% of people on a ship see the EDO as engineering duty officer. So this video is unique
