You speak the truth! Pet Parents can be in denial. And right now, I have a rescue Westie, 12yr. old, just 3 weeks with me, we have had some nipping and one bite for me and one for my boyfriend. Both times she was sleeping and we went to pet her. I think she has some hearing loss, and it seems it's happened because she was startled. I have been grooming my Lhasa Stzu mix and he is so co-operative. I will be going slowly with the Westie and may need some cones. So far, I have been able to dremel his nails a little without a problem. But I'm going to be realistic about her tendency to bite. Thank you Dede! God Bless you! I hope the parent is realizing how much work this takes for you to remain calm with scissors and clippers in her hand.

It has been 7 months, how is Ranger doing?
My retired service dog got quicked down at Pet Smart - once - and then after that nobody could do her nails. Period. End. She will bite.
You will be pleased to know that she now associates the snap of the nail clippers with her fave treat because I show her the clippers and do .5 snaps, and then I give her 5 treats. And then when I finish 1 nail, she gets 1 treat. She has black nails so I'm sure I'm not clipping them short enough, but I haven't quicked her and that's the main thing. And YES I do muzzle and leash her because she would bite.
Anyway I have now worked up to clipping all the nails on 1 paw each day in rotation for 4 days, then she gets 3 days holiday before I do the first paw again. Big win!!! 🎉
I'm hoping that by just doing a tiny little bit on every nail each week that the quick will retreat. Or at least she gets rehabbed enough that a professional doesn't have any trouble with clipping her nails.
Thx for all of the advice on your videos.

whenever I see a dog in an ungroomed condition with agressive like behaviour it tells me the owner is not taking the time and responsibility to learn the dogs way of communication. As humans we need to teach ourselves "dog language-dog signals" on what they are trying to convey to us. We have to remember as humans "dogs are dogs " and as dog owners we have to be the ones to take initiative to train ourselve on what our dogs are trying to convey to us. I see a stressed out dog that is tired of trying to convey to their owners.
