    I would say that this was a well put video of Rovio's downfall with Angry Birds. Just like with your short however, I have an issue on your coverage around the "removal and rerelease" of Angry Birds Classic, and I would like to bring insight as an Angry Birds player that actually knows the situation. You may see it as an "I ain't reading all that" moment, but people deserve to know what REALLY-REALLY happened:
    Yes, Angry Birds Classic did get taken off of app stores, but that was since 2019. And it wasn't just Angry Birds Classic that got removed, it was almost every game that utilized the classic "ball" design. Except for Transformers, Friends, and Angry Birds 2, every title you can think of that used the classic designs: Seasons, Space, and the licensed Rio and Star Wars games, they're all gone. Rovio's initial explanation for this? "Testing purposes".
    This set the fandom in an uproar, and a hashtag movement of #bringback2012 arose(Why the year 2012 in particular? Beats me, since 2014/2015 were the better years of Angry Birds imo), demanding the return of the said games that got removed. After 2 years, we finally got a response in an article titled "A letter to our fans" on June 22, 2021. This time, Rovio put out a legit reason as to why the classic games got removed: They were made with resources and game engines that have since been outdated, and it became really hard to maintain them and satisfy platform requirements due to how fast new technology develops. To top the apology off, Rovio made a promise to bring back the older games, albeit rebuilt from the ground up, and give us fans what we really wanted. It seemed as if we were approaching the light at the end of the tunnel...
    And then the remake came out as Rovio Classics: Angry Birds on March 31, 2022. Its reception was...mixed. Haven't played it myself to confirm(since it came with a $0.99 price tag, just like how the original-original Angry Birds was back in 2009), but supposedly the remake's new physics engine made things that happened in the game to be questionable(Testimony A: Chuck, the yellow bird known for being able to destroy wood easily, can somehow break through rock easily as well).
    The remake wouldn't even last a year before its removal from the Google Play Store was announced on February 21, 2023. Rovio's reason for removing the remake? It had "an impact [its] wider games portfolio"; The games that involved the movie designs and microtransactions supposedly weren't making enough money as a result of nostalgic people going for the one-and-done purchase of buying the remake for $0.99.
    While the devs did have the top charts to prove that the remake was "making too much money"(The remake stayed in the Top 10 of iOS's most paid mobile games the entire time it was around. Why didn't Rovio take this as a sign to take advantage of our nostalgia as a cash cow and make even more money? I have no idea), we fans say otherwise and say that *the remake didn't make enough money*. No one pays for mobile games anymore(Because kids these days prefer atrocious and low-effort "free" games that never stick around for a week and the mobile gaming industry never gets any respect these days as a consequence), and the remake never got promoted outside of a single RUclips trailer(because it's considered a "community easter egg" by a Rovio community manager, pffft). As a result, further profits and the potential for the return of classic Rovio games went out of the window. The iOS version is still up, but it has been renamed to "Red's First Flight" after February 21, 2023(NOT upon release of the remake back in 2022, which was what your video said). It's widely believed that this was done to further drive interest away from the remake and prevent people from finding it, as the remake will not show up when you search up "Angry Birds" on the Apple App Store.
    Whatever the case, history repeated itself with fans flipping out, but this time with the remake's removal getting bigger coverage, often from people that had no idea what happened to the brand in the past 7-or-so years. And here we are...

      But, hopefully, now that Sega bought out Rovio, they'll add back all the classic games, and Angry Birds fans everywhere will get the good ending.

    Can Rovio NOT bring back the old games they erased or do they not want to? By the old games I mean Rio Star Wars Star Wars 2 and angry birds epic.

    • @SwordBotMk3
      @SwordBotMk3 3 месяца назад +1

      For Rio and Star Wars, it’s a matter of their license expiring with 20th Century Fox and Lucasfilm, so they legally can’t bring those games back.
      As for the other classics, considering how bad of a reception the first remake got, I doubt that the rest would ever see the light of day again :/
      It’s funny that you mentioned Angry Birds Epic though, I remember there being an ad that popped up out of nowhere in 2022 advertising the 7 year old RPG as a “new Angry Birds game”
