  • The Daiwa Fuego CT is a solid choice at $99. However, there are a lot of really good reels at $99. I feel that this reel is overlooked and sometimes lost behind the competition. Let’s continue our $99 reel showdown and discuss the second Daiwa baitcaster to make it into the lineup. I’ll discuss the features, show how the reel performed on the water, and discuss the pros and cons of this baitcaster. I think you may be surprised with what this reel has to offer under $100!
    ** COMMENT BELOW **
    What other $99 baitcasters do you want to see in this tournament?

    I love my fuego. It works really well against our spotties here in San Diego. I've done that hard t-rig and jig hookset and the drag has never slipped on me. I'd 100% recommend this reel to anyone on a budget or someone just getting into fishing. Love the video bud!

    Diawa is an outstanding company. As a matter of fact my first spinning reel way back in the cave-man days of the early '60s was a Diawa. This reel looks like a good match for the Tatula rod.

    I have 2 of these reels. Fantastic reels for the price (regularly found around $60-$70). No issues with drag at all on either. The only con i have in the year that ive used them is its a little big for a compact reel (as you pointed out). I highly recommend this reel for anyone who is a budget angler.

    I have this in the 8.1:1. I've had some heavy hook sets with some 6th Sense Divine Swim Jigs and it takes the beating quite well. Mine has that same sound when reeling. Haven't really noticed any ill effects from it. I like it a lot, but then again...my other casters are a Black Max 3 and an old tomato red Curado from back when Beavis and Butthead was still on TV.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 лет назад +1

      Hahahah the old tomato, I love it! That's good to hear about the drag. I'll definitely test that but my gut reaction was that it would hold up. Interesting about the sound. Wonder if they are all that way?

    I just bought this reel off Amazon for $89 and I'm planning on using it tomorrow. I'm pretty excited. The last Daiwa BC reel I owned I got for Christmas in 1983 and I just retired it a few years ago. I had to replace the worm gear pawl a couple times but they sent the parts free. I know that kind of quality should make me come back, but most of their reels are over-the-top expensive.

    I just picked one of these up for $50. I'm pairing it up with a quantum smoke med power fast action rod that I got for $75 on the same day(going out of business sale). I'm truly impressed with the fugeo. I honestly like it better than my revo x's and my lews lfs. It doesn't cast as far as my tatula type-r but that's ok. I'll be picking up more of these when I can find em on sale.

    .
    My first Bait-casting reel came from Japan. At the time, buying anything made in Japan was consider a substandard product and looked down on by the fairly weathy. It turned out to be a big mistake. My first reel cost less-than three dollars. The line I used was Dacron braided line. Monofilament proved impossible to use on level wind reels. My reel was direct drive and this means the crank rotated when cast and the line control was your thumb and the drag control was; guess your thumb. The best reels use jewels the same as used in watches only larger. Pflueger Supreme made in Ohio was the state of art production reel. Any angler using casting reels had to be a devoted, enthusiastic and a little anal to put it plainly. Debo thank you for spreading the word that you don’t have buy overpriced fishing gear enjoy angling. Thank you for providing honest reviews of fishing products. If you can afford a $100 reel that is great, a used model in good shape is even better.

      Absolutely man. I learned on inexpensive gear and it is all that you need to go out and enjoy the fishing experience. There are certain upgrades and features that come with some of the gear that steps up in price. Go up too much and you're not getting much for the extra cost. I have a couple $200 reels that buddies were nice enough to donate to the channel. They are great in fun to test but by no means does an everyday angler need those to go out and have fun. Appreciate you watching and leaving feedback sir!

    I like the daiwa fuego more than the shimano slx. It may not cast further, but it casts good still. I would recommend the fuego for a beginner as it’s so easy to dial in. The cheapness is a big plus too. The fuego can cast lures in a bigger range of different weights too (it can handle a bigger bait while the shimano slx can’t).

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 лет назад +2

  • @HeavilyArmed
    @HeavilyArmed 5 лет назад +1

    The one thing I've noticed with the Magforce drag system is that you can cast lighter lures a lot farther without risking backlash as much as you would with a different drag system. I was fishing for smallies one day using crankbaits and a buddy mentioned that he was having luck with green roostertail spinners. I only had my Daiwa Tatula CT loaded with 12lb mono/7' MH casting rod with me. Tied on a roostertail and for the first time ever used a "Trout spinner" with a casting outfit instead of spinning. Usually I'd have to reduce the spool tension a lot but set the magnets to the highest setting when casting lures that light. With the Tatula I was able to keep the spool tension the same as it was with the crankbaits (DT-6s and Bomber 4As btw), and only had to increase the magnet drag two clicks. The Fuego should perform just as well as the Tatulas and I'm interested to see how the CR80, at it's $74 price point, performs with lighter lures.

    I know this is an old video, but I was looking through reviews on Fuego ct a few days ago
    and found this.
    What surprised me is the breaking system. I have this generic Chinese reel model LPB100 that I got like 8 years ago, I can't remember where. It was one of my first baitcast reels that I got when I started learning how to use baitcasters, and I noticed an unusual breaking system, and it is exactly what the Fuego uses.
    I'm guessing that they copied the same design from Tatula, or maybe Fuego, not sure which came first. It even has the weird control knob like the Fuego that protrudes a bit and you have to unscrew which is definitely a pain when you're trying to fix an issue on the water.
    However the Chinese reel has the knob more on the top side so it doesn't bother me when I palm it. It's also more plasticity and lightweight and the knob is pretty smooth so it doesn't even feel like it's there.
    Anyway I thought it was interesting and now I know other reels have this interesting breaking design.

    Setting up Magforce-Z is a bit different than centrifugal brakes. You want loose spool tension, and higher brakes. Don't use the "let the lure drop and set the spool tension so there's no backlash" method. Set the spool tension where the spool around 1mm side to side play, and set brakes up high, like 16 range. Lighter lures can handle even less spool tension...where the spool is clanking side to side.Then start backing the brakes down to where you don't get fluff at the beginning of your cast. You will need to thumb the spool right before the lure hits the water with this set up though.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 лет назад +1

      That's how I set up all my reels. Tiny bit of side to side and adjust with brakes. I do the same with my centrifugal. I do know some centrifugal reels perform better when the side to side play is all taken out. Just habit for me to set them up all the same. Thanks for watching and leaving that feedback! Did you use a lot of Daiwa reels?

    • @HsinJChow
      @HsinJChow 5 лет назад +1

      @@DEBOSFishing Try more side to side play (i.e. less spool tension) and higher braking and see if that yields more distance. I primarily use Daiwa Magforce-Z's , but do have 2 Curado K's.

    Ok so I’m half through this video and here are my thoughts to this point.
    eBay! eBay! I found my Fuego CT (7.3.1)for $60 and hopped on it fast. I also have the Tatula CT (7.3.1)and found it on Amazon for $111. For the price they are both great reels and the Fuego is the Tatula just without the Twing system. I have both spooled with braid and have the drag set to where the line doesn’t cut into the rest of the line and that has definitely helped with backlashes. I haven’t had a problem with hook setting at all

    Hey Debo! Awesome video! I would have to say that the screw lock side plate would definitely be a deal breaker. It is pretty inconvenient. With that said it does have an aluminum frame and you dont see that very often around the $100 price point. How important do you think aluminum frames are? I thought you didn't care about the frame material because you said the reel seat on the kastking reels and others was just fine. Thanks man! You are awesome. Love the content.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 лет назад

      Yea, I would like to know more about why they use that feature for the sideplate. The reel is solid and would definitely recommend it because you can get it for less than $100. The aluminum frame is important as you step up in price. I have never had a reel foot or frame break. Some people claim that will happen but it hasn't to me. The graphite frame is not as big a deal with normal moving baits that don't require hard hooksets. However, jarring hooksets will definitely put wear and tear on a reel quick. The aluminum frame helps reduce torque and extends the life of the reel. Thanks for watching man!

    question for you, debo. have you tried braid to leader going through the line guide on any of the TWS reels? ive heard of it not wanting to come out when you cast....which is ridiculous considering it should be a bigger space for the knot to go through. i run braid to leader on every setup and i usually run 8-10 feet leaders so they always go through my line guide and i have no issues with regular circles on all my shimanos and lews.

      That's nice of you man. I actually do own that reel and like it a lot. Doing testing and will get a review out this summer!

    Hey Debo, how do you like the Tatula 100? Do you find it to have that same reeling sound that you referred to as "metal" sounding on the Fuego CT?

      I haven't got to fish with it yet, just test casts. It feels good but does have a similar metal sound. It may just be standard for how they're built? It feels good and seems to be a good caster.
