Can you guys do a vid on maintenance you do on rods/ reels/baits? What you do every time you go and prepare for putting up. What you do to put gear up for months/weeks/etc. Thanks love the info vids.
I paired a 7'4 hvy bass x with a SLX 8.2.1 a couple weeks ago for pitchin and flippin my plastics specifically my creature baits and im really liking it and Im just now seeing this vid after my purchase so it gives me even more confidence in my decision to pair tha 2!
Slx combo is so underrated, its price makes it easy for beginners to get their hands on but even once you start upgrading it always has a place in a lot of guys arsenal
I bought a Dobyns Colt 2 weeks ago. After about 1 1/2 hrs of light fishing. I tied on a 1/2 oz jig, on the 2 nd cast 8" of the tip Snapped off. I have owned Dobyns rods in the past. I now am waiting for TW to get the SLX in stock.
Now this is real fishing guide! I’ve owned the spinning Dobyns Colt ( 7’ M) and St. Croix Triumph (7’ M) (which has almost the same feature as the Bass X because I called St. Croix company about the Triumph & Bass X, and they told me that the only difference is the Full cork from the split cork). These 3 rods are ok, but like said by Matt & Tim, they work more for reaction style fishing that doesn’t give you a lot of feel. For a long time now, I kept wondering why the sensitivity on my wife’s Fenwick Walleye Elite Tech (spinning model 6’9” ML) is superior to the Dobyns Colt and the St. Croix. Now I know the reason why. Most likely, I will now buy a higher end rod ($100-$160) for that sensitivity, which is especially helpful to me for fishing squarebill off the bank.
The the Mojo Bass series, which is an SCIII blank and made in Mexico, will be more sensitive than those. If you buy the Avid X for $200 you will see a huge improvement, SCIII blank but american made and a different reel seat. An improvement passed that would be the Tournament Legend series for $260 which uses the SCIV blank. I have used G.Loomis, Dobyns, Fenwick, and many more. St. Croix is by far the best imo. I think the Tournament Legend series, or any SCIV blank, is the sweet spot. The SCV and SCVI blanks are too expensive for the improvements they make.
After watching alot of your videos several times each I decided on a 7'4" slx heavy and the matching real I have no doubt I just bought the best rod in my arsenal thank you
Rookie fisherman getting back into it with my kids. Haven't fished since I was a kid. You guys are awesome and just save me bunch of time and money. just subscribed and I will be back for more videos and tips to help make this transition much smoother. Keep doing what you do. And thank you!
I just so happened to by a 7’ 1” MF St Croix Bass X with a Shimano SLX. I feel much better after seeing Matt give that same combo a solid review. These guys are great! Next is a kayak!
Being a saltwater/bass fishermen in south Florida. I can say the best baitcaster I’ve ever used is the 13 fishing concept Z. 22 pounds of drag, water sealed with zero bearings, and can cast for miles
Love this vid. One thing to point out is that the Shimano SLX rod only comes in a 1 piece model. I only realized it after my order from tacklewarehouse arrived at my door. Now I've got a great Shimano SLX combo that won't fit in my car lol
This video has been most helpful, I dont have a boat so I fish from shore and need a do everything rod, you review on the st croix bass x is just what I was looking for, a rod that can do everything well. I will be ordering that rod and the shimano slx reel. Thank you.
I just can't get into lews all their stuff I see is just obnoxiously loud lime green flourecent orange blah blah. They are probly great tho. I only have an eye for one of their reels Its black and purple and not exactly cheap.
SnEaKeR S33kEr84 some look good in person but I agree for the most part, except for their hack attack combo, it looks amazing and isn’t too flashy(or at least not compared to my Curado)
I’ve got the origin tx and I’ve had it for 3 years caught my pb on it along with so many 5’s and 6’s and never had a single issue everytime I pick it up it feels buttery smooth and straight out of the box still. Definitely my go to for 100$
I had a defy until I fell out of the boat this year and broke it😔 it was by far the best top water rod I have ever owned! That rod taught me that rod brands and sizes really make a difference with different baits the hook sets were so fun and it was a positive set every time I upped my catch percentage a lot
I share all these videos and me and my buddies go over what y'all talk about, agreed on that $99 And up price point on stepping on everything, size, weight, how smooth they get, best videos to help everyone across the board
This video helps out immensely! A rod I wish was reviewed by someone is an Eagle claw rod from Walmart that values at $100. I do not like eagle claws products they are normally for the basic fisherman or beginner. But this rod is priced with some of these rods which have great name backing. It just really Intrigues me!
200$ for rod and reel. Quite a leap from my normal 29.99 combos. WHAHOO! They took $40 off after check out, $160 out the door plus free T shirt. Can't wait till the ice is on then off to try out. Snowing now here on the north coast. Went with Bass X 7-1 MH fast, and short wait for left wind SLX. Might sneak to Florida in Feb. Try out on some snook. Keep the vids coming.
The SLX real is absolutely amazing I use it for my keitech swimbaits and I pair it up with an UglyStick lite pro and 15 pound mono and it is an amazing set priced at roughly $140
Finally, the bass x rods get the recognition they deserve and the secret is out. I am a northern guy and I am switching all my combos over to the bass x rods. For the price, it’s really hard to find one that performs as well all around.
ahastar1141 I don’t think Bass X is that great. It has the same blank as the Triumph. I even called the guys at St. Croix and they said pretty much the difference is a full cork to split cork grip. He even recommended me at the Triumph. After trying it out, I regretted buying it because the sensitivity is not there. I should have went back to the Dobyns Colt like I originally had. If you talk about sensitivity, backbone, and budget friendly, the Colt is better. But everyone has there own preference.
@@tacticalbassin would love to see a video where you guys can go a little more in depth on the slx rods. Seems like your giving some serious praise to this lineup and it would be nice to hear a bit more about the power, action, and in depth thoughts of the rod. You guys are great and we really appreciate your opinions and ideas. Keep up the awesome work you both do. Thanks
when shimano released slx for bikes 10ish years ago it was that product that performed like a high end product with most of the features just less the fine materials, extra durability, and less weight. It is easy for me to imagine they could do this for reels!
This is the best fishing channel I've ever seen!!! You should have a show on TV...also would be nice if you could put together a buyer's guide for products u dr $100 or 150...thank you keep up the great work!!@
I've been wanting a slx reel but have been torn on what rod to get because I knew shamono has amazing reels but wasn't sure on the rods so after watching your video I decided I had to try it. So I clicked the link and bought me one. Can't wait to try it!
Awesome video guys! Enjoy these gear videos with you guys trying out different brands, low and high price point rods/reels, keep them coming! Gives me a good review and I go out and buy what you guys suggest, thanks for trying and testing them for us to get the low down, tight lines boys
I’ve owned many Fury , and a few SLX and I’d go Fury hands down. Nothing wrong with the SLX reel on a Fury , but the SLX Rod isn’t even remotely as sensitive and it just feels mass produced and weaker. I broke a rod tip on one, just felt cheaper
I don't use baitcasters due to fishing out of a yak. That said, I still liked the video because I owe to Matt and Tim. These guys got me into fishing and for that I can't say enough. I've gotten one 7 pound bass now for 2 years in a row (I live in MA) .. and now onto a video I'll watch
My first bait caster was a shimono and it was a work horse for sure. after seeing this today I had to buy the SLX. thanks for the great tips guys. Keep on Bassin
Thanks so much for your videos. You guys are my gurus! I follow everything you say and recommend. I’m sure many others do as well! Keep up the great work!
I would love an in depth SLX video. I'm thinking of getting an SLX reel for flipping mostly. I know it is small but from what I have read it's sturdy and powerful, able to stand up to flipping big fish.
I’ve had the SLX MEDIUM 6”10 paired with the SLX151HG 7-1-5 for 3 months and have caught well over 200 bass had the top guide broke replaced it and still my favorite rod as of today
Dude I got the SLX medium heavy. It seems way too stiff. Can you throw light texas rigs on that medium? I put a 3/16 weight with a creature bait and barely feel it in the water
Been bass fishing since covid started. The bass X rod has been my favorite rod to use so far. I got the slx reel the other day to pair with it but I had been using the TAC40 from academy which i find pretty similiar. Love the bass X rod tho, it has been the rod I catch most of my fish on.
i just told myself this moring i dont need anything this blackfriday..after watching your vid started checking out tackle store..i need a bunch...haha...gonna try that slx next season..thanks guys for your input..👍🏼👍🏼
I go with the pflueger president for my spinning reels. I haven’t used any high dollar spinning reels but for me they are great, especially for the price on a spinning setup I would rather have more room in the budget to get a more sensitive rod
Great vid guys! Love the Buyers Guide season. As a Northerner, love me some St Croix as well. Really lookin forward to the high end gear vid. Thx as always for the content, happy holidays
Bought a 7'5" medium-heavy SLX and im having a blast this summer in canada. First "real" fishing rod i bought and I have two questions: 1- Went with medium-heavy for jig fishing, but with versatility in mind since its only my second rod. When I get more rods in the future, what would this one be most useful for, in a min-max sense? 2- Im having trouble choosing rod length, whats the logic here? Thanks to anybody that has tips
Have you or could you do a video of the correct technique to cast spinning reels. If you have direct me to it? Myself and my wife are trying to get the correct procedure figured out. She is a zebco 33 only person lol. Thanks for the great videos I have been watching them for probably a month and can't stop😄😎
For us Wisconsonites, Fleet Farm has a $20 gift card on all St.Croix rods ove $80. Just picked up a couple and have $40 gift card. Now I can't wait to try out that new Bass X!
The Dobyns Fury Rods went up on price to $119-$129 they were $109-$119 but with the TW 20% off sale it’ll bring em back down. Thanks guys!!! Early Christmas for me!!!
Thank for this video guys! I had my eye on a St. Croix Bass X this year and a Shimano Casitas. I watched this and I am really intrigued by the SLX Reel. You guys make me spend way too much money, haha.
@iSlayEskimos I think you'll love it. I now have 2 since I posted this. 7'1" mhf is perfect for senkos. It's probably my favorite rod and I have about 13 mid to higher end rods.
@iSlayEskimos if it's going to be an all-around rod or for texas rig I'd go mh. Also have a medium bass x for cranking and it's pretty light. For the price, you can't go wrong imho.
I can vouch for the slx...for the price, there’s nothing better on the market, at the moment. I’ve had thing in everything from windy, rainy casting conditions to dead calm...and I’ve probably adjusted the brakes once since I’ve bought it.
Could you do a review/give an opinion of the stixfishing all you need in 6 set? I bought them earlier this year because I was sold on how many rods I was getting for the price. I greatly like the rods because they are far better quality than the cheap rods I started with when I was younger/just getting started. I would really appreciate knowing how you both feel about this new set. Is it quality or just another rod company blowing smoke? Its really hard for me to make the comparison since my budget has never allowed me the opportunity to get out of the low budget rods. If they are not worth it, I would like to continue upgrading (regardless I will always try to upgrade. part of fishing.) but if they are worth it, I would like to turn focus to upgrading my reels which are not as great of quality. Thanks you and love the buyers guide series! Cannot wait for TB's end of the year goals video!
thank you guys so much for always providing information and being great fisherman and teachers. have a great holiday season guys!! just made my tackle warehouse order!
I have a buddy that just got into bait casting. He got himself a Shimano SLX, he’s wondering what breaking system would work for skipping under docks with a jig while using a Shimano SLX?
I have the same 13 fishing combo with a 7’1 medium and I think it’s a great rod I use it for small spooks, chatter baits and other lures. And my only problem is it’s back bones a little soft but otherwise it is a great rod
Totally appreciate you mentioning the softer actions with St. Croix. I've experienced the same thing, and people should know before they place their orders online
I have like five Slx reels and I love them! Kinda hard to use my curaodo’s now with the weight difference. Great real for the price, shimano reels for life🤙💪
I have one. Caught big Salmon on it. But good lord the guides got big gouges from flourocarbon! Wouldn't buy for that reason. Right now my schools club has 40% off Dobyns rods. So i will be switching over.
I know this video is a little old but Academy has a great deal on the SLX combo I saw. Buy the reel and get the rof 50% off. So I got the casting combo for about $160
Aight, I need some help from the boys. I need the best braided line recommendations. Just bought an expensive reel and I want the best line that I can put on it.
Hey Matt and Tim, next time you guys do a video on budget rods and reels, could you try some lews reels and something in the duckett line of rods , I'd really like to know you're opinion on the triad rods and any other duckett rods you'd like to try..thanks
I have two of the Bass X; one spinning one casting. I like the spinning more so than the casting. The spinning has more of a niche in my style of fishing but the casting feels too, meh. I can't describe it, and maybe it's just the reel I have on it (Abu Revo), but it just doesn't seem to do anything well. I like the Fury so much more at the price point. A bit more gets you a Curado Rod. The spinning casts very nice and I've hauled in tons of bass using it as a Texas rigged Senko rod, Flukes, and smaller Keitechs. It will remain my go-to rod for such applications. The casting rod will probably sold come spring time. I think a lot of it is that it's the odd man out considering the rods I already have. Perhaps I'll make it a back-up cranking or jerkbait rod since it does have a softer tip even though it's labeled as Fast Action. There's so much to personal feel and style for rods and reels, to each is own. Awesome week of buyer's guide. Thanks.
Disapointed the SLX is only in stock for right hand wind (available left in a month - good thing it is winter). I don't want to switch hit. Like left hand wind for right handed person. Most reels are backwards and I never understood why. I can barely get my right thumb to do what is needed. The left thumb cannot learn. But it is fun to watch guys tossing rig from hand to hand like a hot potato.
I fish left as a right hander. Only thing I can think of is fishing on a boat with a co angler. casting and setting the hook on your same side so you take up less space on the boat.
I was looking for mountain bike components now ive been watching fishing reel videos for the last hour i havent fished since i was 6
Yeah the two branches of Shimano weren't communicating on the names of the products apparently
rtask time to start fishin
The universe is speaking to you!
Welcome! No going back now.

Thanks so much for all you do for the fishing community

I have watched this video probably 15 times now. I refer to it every time i go to buy a new setup. Thank you guys for the content!

They did it again folks! So excited for this and the high end! thank you tacticalbassin for all the hard work and passion you put into these videos!
Being a saltwater/bass fishermen in south Florida. I can say the best baitcaster I’ve ever used is the 13 fishing concept Z. 22 pounds of drag, water sealed with zero bearings, and can cast for miles
The only youtube fish channel u have to watch for advice, you guys are the bomb
Thank you guys I also am a tackle junky the struggle is real.
Love this vid. One thing to point out is that the Shimano SLX rod only comes in a 1 piece model. I only realized it after my order from tacklewarehouse arrived at my door. Now I've got a great Shimano SLX combo that won't fit in my car lol
Thanks guys. I am so glad you guys test gear that the average angler can afford. Keep up the great videos.
Awesome. Broke 5 poles stuffing them in a ski locker. So went back and looked at past vlogs. So thank you. Its not black Friday....o well.
This video has been most helpful, I dont have a boat so I fish from shore and need a do everything rod, you review on the st croix bass x is just what I was looking for, a rod that can do everything well. I will be ordering that rod and the shimano slx reel. Thank you.
Let’s be honest guys 🔥Shimano All Day!🔥
VajFoom Them or Lews the best reels on the market
VajFoom
Be slaying them white bass with Shimano bass rods. lol
I just can't get into lews all their stuff I see is just obnoxiously loud lime green flourecent orange blah blah. They are probly great tho. I only have an eye for one of their reels Its black and purple and not exactly cheap.
Shimano forsure.
Lew's is just gaudy and they need to make something traditional that looks machined and smooth. The colors scream out cheap looking.

Just bought 8 Shimano SLX Rod and Reel combos for $129 each at the fishing show in Chicago! They feel great in your hand. Can't wait to try them out!
Thanks guys. I need good quality but a reasonable price and this session is a big help and confirmation of the rods and reels I’ve been checking out.
I share all these videos and me and my buddies go over what y'all talk about, agreed on that $99 And up price point on stepping on everything, size, weight, how smooth they get, best videos to help everyone across the board

That bassx is what I use as my work horse bxc72mhm curado k, avidx axc70mm with citica, curado cdc72mh With curado 71, thanks for all you do guys. 😁
The SLX real is absolutely amazing I use it for my keitech swimbaits and I pair it up with an UglyStick lite pro and 15 pound mono and it is an amazing set priced at roughly $140
You guys fuel my tackle addiction. Thank you enablers!
We're here to help LOL!
Love my 7'2" MH BassX rod. Just gets it done. Thanks for mentioning that one guys. Seems to be a true sleeper rod.
Jeremy York bxc72mhm? It is a top grade rod for sure. For little lake fishermen or pond it’s sensitive and tough, for that surprise giant. 👍🏼
Wife got me a Shimano SLX150 and a Fury rod. I can’t wait to test them out. Thanks for your reviews
Appreciate the honesty and lack of brand fan boy bs. All great picks in that price point
Great info! I value, along with many others, your opinions on these rods and reels. I need to sample the SLX lines.
Finally, the bass x rods get the recognition they deserve and the secret is out. I am a northern guy and I am switching all my combos over to the bass x rods. For the price, it’s really hard to find one that performs as well all around.

You guys have made it easy for me on choosing new gear. Ive been trying to decide on the SLX and this helps my decision a lot
I'd like to know yalls opinion on the Shimano exange rod line when yall get a chance!
We have both and fish both. I believe the slx will make the exage discontinued.
@@tacticalbassin would love to see a video where you guys can go a little more in depth on the slx rods. Why ? What’s the issue with using bait casters in a kayak?
Just picked up the fuego great reel for the price.. I’m lucky I have tackle supply depot in town here in CT..thanks guys
As usual another great video. Thanks Tim and Matt.
I think it will stand up just fine to that abuse. Tim frogged with it all Summer with no issues thus far.
Shimano Nasci spinning reel casts so well and accurate I sometimes forget it’s not a baitcaster , I put 15lb braid on it either 8 slick or 832
Been bass fishing since covid started. The bass X rod has been my favorite rod to use so far. I got the slx reel the other day to pair with it but I had been using the TAC40 from academy which i find pretty similiar. Love the bass X rod tho, it has been the rod I catch most of my fish on.
Can you do a bank fishing tutorial video for people without a boat??
Would be great to do! Bank fishing for us all, who do not have a boat 👍
i just told myself this moring i dont need anything this blackfriday..after watching your vid started checking out tackle store..i need a bunch...haha...gonna try that slx next season..thanks guys for your input..👍🏼👍🏼
Ha! Sorry Patrick!
Bass X is a great budget rod. I have 7’4mh, 7’1mh, 7’11h and 6’6mh
brandon myers 7’1” mh good for Texas rigging and jig
I go with the pflueger president for my spinning reels. I haven’t used any high dollar spinning reels but for me they are great, especially for the price on a spinning setup I would rather have more room in the budget to get a more sensitive rod
I have a P35 and P30 they are fantastic, smooth.
abu garcia black max combo will work for everything you need!!!!!
They wear away quickly
You guys should do a buyer's guide your electronics on the boat
i am broke now. thx for the great video.
ahhh man sorry about that!
I picked up a Dobyns fury serries swim bait rod in 7'9" and topped it with a shimano SLX 150 reel for crank bais and glide baits
Great vid guys! Love the Buyers Guide season. As a Northerner, love me some St Croix as well. Really lookin forward to the high end gear vid. Thx as always for the content, happy holidays

Got the 7'4" heavy Bass X paired up with the SLX reel, absolutely love it!!!!
Nice combo!!
What gear ratio slx is good on that rod
Shimano SLX line is absolutely 🔥🔥
Thank for this video guys! I had my eye on a St. Croix Bass X this year and a Shimano Casitas. I watched this and I am really intrigued by the SLX Reel. You guys make me spend way too much money, haha.
Ha! Its a really nice reel, I'd take a look at the SLX
This was great guys! Just got my SLX and st. Croix bass x rod. Cant wait to take it out on the yak in a couple of days!
Thank you for the support! We're just happy to be here doing this :-)
I have a buddy that just got into bait casting. He got himself a Shimano SLX, he’s wondering what breaking system would work for skipping under docks with a jig while using a Shimano SLX?
Love this channel. Always great info and im not much of a bass guy other than smallmouth but the gesr stuff alone is great
Was thinking about trying an SLX reel, you have confirmed that I will now
I have the same 13 fishing combo with a 7’1 medium and I think it’s a great rod I use it for small spooks, chatter baits and other lures. And my only problem is it’s back bones a little soft but otherwise it is a great rod
Just recently got the Slx combo for top water also and it really is a nice set up love it
Totally appreciate you mentioning the softer actions with St. Croix. I've experienced the same thing, and people should know before they place their orders online
I have like five Slx reels and I love them! Kinda hard to use my curaodo’s now with the weight difference. Great real for the price, shimano reels for life🤙💪
Just got the shimano slx mgl with the slx rod and love it also have the regular slx it's great to but step up to the curado dc and that's my favorite
idk what reel that seafoam green is. but I have a kastking spartacus in that color. and I love it. it hasn’t let me down yet.
should be a 13Fishin Origin TX. retail is $100
Thanks for the videos! great timing .....
I have that exact same combo! The SLX paired with a St Croix BassX. Looks great together
Awesome!
Y'all should try the duckett ghost. It's a great 100 dollar rod. I personally love all of the duckett rods
So I got the casting combo for about $160
Wow! Great deal
Aight, I need some help from the boys. I need the best braided line recommendations. Just bought an expensive reel and I want the best line that I can put on it.
I have 2 bass x spinning and casting i have the both the colt (just got haven't tryed) and already had the fury rod. Guess i did good.
Definitely getting a 7’10 heavy with a 8.2.1 slx reel
st croix premier spinning rod 130$ with the Pflueger President XT 80$
Thanks.
nice video guys how about lines braid mono copo floro any recommendations on brands or maybe buyers guide
Just ordered my first bass x and I love it all I own from now on is the dobyns fury and bass x

@@marcusyoung2870 I wont be throwing it for another couple of months most likely, but I'll let you know how they are if i remember!
Ha! You're correct, SLX lefties haven't hit the states yet. But if you backorder it you'll get the discount and it will ship when it arrives.
I fish left as a right hander. Only thing I can think of is fishing on a boat with a co angler. casting and setting the hook on your same side so you take up less space on the boat.
Cold weather gear should be next
Yeah definitely one of those sweatshirts would be nice
I agree. Cold weather gear and I want a hoody in Alabama.
