  • This video is of a Quantum Trailblazer, later Fireball TM, with general discussion and disassembly/reassembly. These are low-cost 4500RPM drives sold in the mid-'90s, available both in SCSI and ATA versions, as most Quantum drives were at the time. It was probably named Trailblazer because it pioneered this particular low-cost drive design, which they dropped after the ultimate 3.2GB Fireball TM-branded model, opting instead to stay with the classic bathtub-style cast aluminum drive chassis that they had used for ages.
    This particular drive is the early full-capacity (850MB) model with two discs and four heads, but they made other depopulated versions.
    As usual, the high-speed sections are silent, so no need to fiddle with the knobs. I thought about putting in some royalty-free music or something, but I didn't.
