I kinda went a bit insane making this video, so hopefully everyone enjoys it! Hilariously enough, I went into this video thinking it would've turned out to be 10-minutes, but once again, it snowballed into insanity. I'm most definitely planning on doing a really short Uncivil Synopsis for the next video, because these lengthy endeavors have been kicking my ass! Still, with the Smash DLC coming out soon and with Super Smash Bros Ultimate possibly being the last game before a reboot, I kind of felt obligated to do this because it might be my last chance to cover this topic. Hopefully you guys don't get too upset at me hating you're character choices, cause honestly, I'm being really hyperbolic in this video and it really doesn't matter (AKA dickless nerd shit).
Steve really does deserve to get in, but the thought of it makes me die a little inside. I suppose as long as Sakuria does a Minecraft character and keeps it classy, then it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

As much as I love Bandanna Dee you're actually right, people mostly want him to complete the quartet from Return to Dreamland. Really if any Kirby character would be easy to put in the game, Sakurai could just include Galacta Knight as an Echo for Meta Knight and call it a day.

Well, both sides do have a point...But there were Waluigi fanatics that apparently went as far as to blow up Sakurai's social media, demanding him to be playable. I think some even insulted Sakurai. That said....It'd be kinda fair if Waluigi isn't playable, y'know?
At this point most fans don’t hate waluigi or his actual fans. However waluigi fanboys who don’t shut up about him is getting on people nerves with their denial, constant begging for sakurai to change his mind, and accusing anyone who doesn’t want waluigi as a hater. It’s already cause a dent in the waluigi fanbase since many people can’t tell if people genuinely like waluigi or reference the meme. Regardless I’m pretty sure waluigi and any assist trophies won’t be playable in ultimate cause if any assist trophy becomes playable at this point there will be more fans thy will demand sakurai to make them playable and we only have a few more spots left. That’s probably true for spirits too since there are tons of popular characthers that are spirits

It’s usually because when they do say it, they say it along with those reasons he shouldn’t be playable at all I mentioned above and that’s what the argument is about. In fact, that’s basically what the argument’s been about for the past several months In the case of him being a meme, the meme itself isn’t the idea of Waluigi being playable but the fact that he was snubbed and it was funny calling it an “injustice” even though everyone knows it isn’t. People have been asking for him for years. You’d see him in the magazines and all those RUclips lists but the reason he wasn’t really pushed for I strongly believe is because everyone thought he’d be in this time anyway I don’t know why people think you can’t sincerely like him. Waluigi haters are usually the people that say that Waluigi is a trash character and accuse his entire fanbase harrasses Sakurai. I don't think he will be in Ultimate, despite being a fan, and there is no point attacking Sakurai. Waluigi haters also usually argue about the points refuted in the comment. Most Waluigi fans want him in for his great personality, or to represent the Mario spinoffs. very few genuine fans want Waluigi in for the memes anyway. Another thing you could add is that Rosalina was literally just added to promote Super Mario 3d World, Bowser jr. is only in because his character was already nearly finished, and Daisy is literally just a filler character and a clone. No Mario character that has actually been highly requested has appeared in Smash since Brawl (Wario).
@@vrthird5644 actually some of your information is wrong. Rosalina is one of the most popular mario characther so her being in smash was not surprising. Bowser jr was also requested too. Both of these characthers have done a lot of things in their franchises to be consider playable (rosalina for the galaxy franchise and bowser jr being a villan.plus both of them are fairly popular heck rosalina has been added in almost everything now.) As for daisy, yes she is a clone however the reason why they also included her in ultimate is due to high demand during the ballot. Sakurai has confirmed in famitsu articles that the fighters for ultimate were heavily requested due to the ballot. Daisy would've been skipped if it wasn't for her fans since she was just a palette swap before and got promoted to playable As for the waluigi fans vs haters it's just annoying that both sides get into constant arguements

This video is one of the best comedy acts I've ever seen. The lack of research for most of these characters is hilarious, along with how you insert your own opinions into Sakurais and act like he shares your very flawed viewpoints. Also, the strawmanning of multiple fanbases is even funnier than your other bits! Finally, I LOVE how you break your rules constantly and put you and your opinions in as reasons why characters shouldnt get in! A fair and balanced video for sure, my friend! You know the start of this video was actually pretty good. Getting on people who were complaining about not getting a character despite all the crazy shit this game did and analyzing the reasons a character can get in Then it turned into "Your character sucks and you're stupid for wanting them"
Not necessarily no, you're stupid for being genuinely angry and upset (especially to the point of harassing Sakurai on Twitter) that your character didn't make it to super smash bros, especially when from an objective lens, they suck.

51:20 Alright, time to make a comment that the creator of the video won't even read. I understand why you feel this way, even chuckled abit, but lemme tell you my opinion. Look, I get it. On the base, Joe and the Chorus Kids don't have much moveset potential. Hell, I'm in the minority that wants Joe instead of Chorus Kids. But think of characters like Mr. Game & Watch or Duck Hunt. Who said they were only entitled to their select few of minigames? Rhythm Heaven is a massive minigame compilation that has a colorful pallet of unique and weird scenarios. Some of those could be referenced in a moveset for smash, like I mentioned, how Game & Watch references minigames in his series. A point that most people don't bring up however is the lack of rhythm game representation in the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly fine with having them not make it, but out of the 70 characters in Ultimate, how many characters represent a greatly current genre of video games? None of them, and don't even get me started on DK's old Final Smash. Edit: To rival your "No-one knows this franchise" argument: Think of how many characters you could say the same for if Smash didn't shine light on them! Captain Falcon, R.O.B, Pit. You'd be lying if you told me you knew who Ness was before Super Smash Bros hit the scene.
The logic I usually go with when I think of good Smash characters is that they would play exactly the same as they do in their respective series, so when I see people request characters like Ashley, Chorus Kids, and other characters that don't really do anything, I sort of just don't get the point. I mean, when Bayonetta, Simon, Ryu, and the Inkling were included in Smash, it was like you were playing as those character, but in Super Smash Bros, which I think really improves on the aspect of a video game cross over party game. I mean, if you want to have a giant cross-over, you'd want the characters to feel exactly like they do in their respective games, so when Sakurai creates movesets not based off the character's actual abilities, I just don't think it's as interesting. That's why I always found Ganondorf to be kind of disappointing as a Captain Falcon clone, because he doesn't do any of those attacks in The Legend of Zelda. It's like, sure, Ganondorf is in the game, but it was at the cost of not being true to the source material. I mean, even as obscure as a pick as ROB is, at least they shoot the same toys they interact with as projectiles. It's not perfect, but it's an inclusion that feel more genuine to what ROB actually was. I guess I wouldn't mind the Chorus Kids being included with a made up moveset based off of the Rythem Heaven mini-games and it would work just fine, but I guess I'm just not as excited by the prospect when you could include a ton of other characters with more genuine abilities. I mean, I'm not all too excited about Piranha Plant either, but at least the abilities are all based off of the multiple incarnations of Piranha Plant from the Super Mario series. It took the potted Plant version from 3D World, some of the poison abilities, the projectiles, the ability to extend it's body, and it all comes together well enough and isn't entirely made up from the get go (besides some of his tilt attacks) At the end of the day, I guess I just prefer characters that feel more authentic.

currently, dislikes are 2400 compared to 3300, and honestly? i dont blame them even if this IS a type a humour(?), this just feels way too aggressive/toxic in general, it feels like he swears every 10 seconds. and before you tell me that i just get triggered by swears, no i fucking dont! it just feels a bit off when its said so often to me, really.
It's not just about the swearing, it's about what he says while doing it. He is brutally honest and the fact that his character feels very confident in his saying is just like any humourist would do. Plus, he does back up his statement with facts that does makes him more credible It might not be your cup of tea, nor most people's too. I never said that these people were dogshit to not like that. I was only pointed out something that made me laugh a bit because I have a very strange sense of humour and I love seeing people like me online creating stuffs like this
Ice Climbers are a shitty pick, but game play wise, their at least the most interesting out of all the other niche/weird-ass characters. Basically, their unique moveset makes up for how shitty they are. I don't necessarily have a problem with Geno's moveset potential, but there's so many more interesting characters you could add instead that I don't see him as a high priority pick. He's also incredibly over-hyped all things considered and the only point I really made in the video is that he's not that special. At the end of the day, don't really care either way. If he's in, then whatever! If he's not, then that's fine!
Same here. I'd really love Banjo, but yeah, Sadly he's not a Nintendo property anymore. He's not had a new game in almost 20 years, and even then, his entire series sold less than the first Crash game, which sold the lowest of the trilogy. He definitely deserves a spot in Smash because of how iconic his games were, and the history with nintendo, but saying that's because of relevance is really incorrect.
@@Brother_Piner Well Banjo is a Microsoft franchise now. However he still has a chance for smash since Microsoft is friends. If he was a playstation character it would be impossible for him to make it to smash especially if he was in PS all stars. Any character that's playable in PlayStation All-Stars is pretty much deconfirmed especially considering there's a rumor with minor evidence about Sony starting development on PlayStation All-Stars 2 in 2017 & expecting to release in 2020 for the PS4 & possibly a launch title for the PS5.

In this entire 1 hour 32 minute video, he basically says you're an idiot for having a dream. He basically says you're not allowed to hope your favorite character gets into the game, and he's incredibly ungrateful for the characters we have in the game (despite how he started the video, calling other smash bros fans ungrateful). This guy doesn't even notice how often he says a swear word, he practically speaks like an edgy 12 year old who just learned of these words, because he can't say a single sentence without swearing. Now let me remind you that we recently got Piranha Plant, the character absolutely no one expected for, because barely anyone, if anyone at all, wanted it in the game. Please rethink a lot of what you've said in this video, and work on a better attitude - try not to swear as much, and please for the love of God, pronounce "aka" correctly. I'm sorry but what? Crash Bandicoot & Spyro & Rayman aren't related to Nintendo? How about the exclusive Crash & Spyro games on GBA? Rayman also had Rayman Advanced, Rayman 3. They've also had ports of their games on Nintendo consoles like the GameCube.
I'm not denying that Crash and Spyro aren't related to Nintendo, but that by the time they were on Nintendo consoles, both of their series were becoming really mediocre. The peak of their popularity was definitely on the Playstation, which is why I always associated them with Sony instead of a multiplatform franchise. I suppose as far as Smash is cornered, it doesn't really matter if those games were good or bad, but it was just something I wanted to bring up. Rayman's definitely my favorite out of the three, but he's just not a high priority pick for me.

Crash's remake has done pretty well on Switch though. That said, it's worth being realistic. Crash sadly isn't huge in Japan and Rayman is a spirit (rip).
As someone who has always preferred Daisy over most other Mario characters when given the choice (Mario Kart mostly, lol).. yeah I'd take that trade. Waluigi has potential and can't be a clone.

You’ve clearly never seen anything related to Dark Pit beyond his design. He’s a completely different character from Pit, not just a recolor. Comparing him to pink gold Peach is the funniest shit I’ve heard in a long time, because that isn’t an accurate comparison whatsoever. I’m so sick of people talking shit about a character when they can’t even get the basic information of said character right. And the rhythm heaven bit was hilarious too. Do you seriously think anything you said about Joe and the Chorus Kids is valid when we have the ice climbers? Who the hell knew who they were pre-Smash inclusion? What the fuck do they do in their game other than climb? Yet they still got an entire moveset. They’re just as obscure as the rhythm heaven characters, yet here we are seeing them appear in their third smash game. There’s a lot more about this video I could talk about, but wow most of this hour long waste of time just screams ‘I don’t know what I’m talking about’.
Dunno how Banjo gets a free-pass from just about everyone. Almost as irrelevant as Geno, and he won't mean a thing to anyone who never owned a 64 (Pretty much anyone under the age of 20 by this point). He's a quintessential boomer pick. Also, he's not a big a gaming icon as you think he is. To put it into perspective, the first Crash Bandicoot, the lowest selling in the original trilogy, outsold Banjo's entire series combined. Moveset potential's real good, but I always found the whole 'history with Nintendo' to be mostly moot when you consider Snake (Yeah, he started in the NES, but people know him from Metal Gear Solid over the original Metal Gear titles), Cloud (A clear PS1 star) and Joker (Again, more of a Playstation character,) so the whole history with Nintendo advantage isn't a big factor.
Smash has a certain criteria to live up to it's not just a M.U.G.E.N fanfic to shove indie and platformer mascots that have nothing to do with Nintendo in because they happen to be cartoony video game characters. And don't we have enough "PlayStation reps" as it is?
Banjo and kazzoie are legends and I prefer them much more than Mario obviously sonic is my best character since I group up playing his games from one to the rest of them but banjo and kazzoie have been being thought about and suggested since melee that's a true fact and my opinion is if you think about it dlc will be characters from games that AIN'T Nintendo so maybe a long shot but even goku could be in the game considering his a fighting character a popular suggestion and is also a well known character in Japan and we already know there fans of him for the fact on one of the videos they have figurines of dbz on the desk and even have them of skull kid too

Bandana waddle Dee is a highly requested character, and the 4th main character. He was even removed from Dee Dee Dees final smash. I don't want him but even I can see the importance

Actually.....people enjoy Kingdom Hearts for its gameplay largely (yes the story is a cluster fuck but that's not why i play the series) also the Disney Renaissance characters and worlds are a great addition for nostalgia, as well as the Final Fantasy cameos. (Yes they are there as fan service, but that's why fans love it so much) Also the games can be hard as hell on Proud Mode.
It's gameplay is terrible people do NOT like it for it's gameplay. Literally all I've seen about KH3's gameplay is that it is boring. It apparently feel very satisfying to use the special Disney moves (when they don't fuck up your view of the fight) but it all boils down to pressing X a lot. Which is the same for the rest of the games, big surprise
Actually, Sakurai himself said that a character has to originate from a video game, so no, Goku will never make it in. On the other hand, James Bond was considered for Smash 64, so you never know.
Everyone knows for a fact that Goku is a stupid pic. But there's a character that's in kind of a grey area, Sora, a lot of people actually want him... But the fact of the matter is that his best friends are Donald & Goofy, so its like asking for that Kid from "Adventures in the Magic Kingdom" just because it was developed by Capcom.
They won’t explain because they know it’s a bad argument. It’s a perfect opportunity for Sakurai to use his imagination and suggestions from the Zelda devs on a kit for Skull Kid, on top of pulling from his kit in Hyrule Warriors. I mean this argument against Skull Kid is shaky at best because the roster could use another Zelda rep, the roster could use more villains, and Majora’s Mask is considered the best (or on par with Ocarina of Time) Zelda by a lot of fans (and for good reason).

Yeah, I suppose that's true, but do you really think that Marx or Magolor will get in before Waddle Dee? I guess the logic I was trying to get across was that the more popular a character is, the more likely they will appear in Super Smash Bros. I mean, it's been so long since Melee came out, but were people really requesting Marx before Meta Knight or King Dedede were in? I suppose the way I see it is that Marx is somewhere on par with Waddle Dee in importance in the Kirby series,, but more people are just rallying behind Waddle since he's the fourth most popular character. Not to say that people don't want other Kirby characters as well, but I think that Waddle Dee is the most logical choice to be included next (while also being the most highly requested by the fans). That's why when I was talking about The Legend of Zelda, there really isn't a logical choice to include next, because in the importance of The Legend of Zelda, all the side characters are sort of on par with each other. People really want Skullkid next and a lot of people want other Zelda characters as well, but I wouldn't say that Skullkid has the same kind of importance in The Legend of Zelda as Waddle Dee does in the Kirby series. I suppose this logic doesn't work with everything, but I hope I'm getting the point across.

I meant that Bandana Dee is more important than every other Kirby character except for the three in smash and Dark Matter (and the entirety of Dark Matter are as large as planets.) while Marx, Magolor, etc. are all of less equal importance of the Kirby series, not just in popularity. Also people just want Skull Kid cuz he looks cool, And literally no other reason.

I agree about the whole "relevancy" thing. What people don't get about the "relevancy" argument is that it's not about being relevant *right now,* it's about being relevant or important *at some point during Nintendo's history.* King K. Rool is the perfect example. Golden Sun, while acclaimed by the people who played it, is really a niche RPG that didn't really get mainstream attention on par with other major releases/franchises. GBA was my childhood console and I played and discussed it for years and I basically didn't know Golden Sun existed until the "Isaac for Smash" movement started. All of this also applies to Geno. Despite what I just said, Isaac *at least* has his own series and is the protagonist of it, Geno is literally just a side character from an old Mario spin-off that didn't even nearly get as much attention as basically any relevant Mario characters. Even characters like Wii Fit Trainer and Duck Hunt were more recognizable than Isaac/Geno before they were made playable in Smash. I wouldn't be angry if Isaac was made playable in Smash but the "relevancy" argument is fully valid to an extent and is a good reason to *not* include characters like Isaac and Geno, they were never important, impactful or popular in Nintendo's history.
I think the reason fans are desperate to include niche characters like Geno and Isaac is because their inclusions could artificially increase the popular of said characters, and thus increase the chances of getting the next sequel to Super Mario RPG/Golden Sun. For example, Sakuria included Pit in Brawl, which allowed Sakuria to then develop a new Kid Icarus game, to then include even more Kid Icarus characters. You could even say the same thing about Fire Emblem. I also think the fans want their favorite games to be validated through Super Smash Bros, which I think is kind of an unhealthy way to approach things.

Believe it or not, but more people remember Ice Climbers as a game than Golden Sun. There weren't nearly as many notable games in the NES era compared to the GBA/Gamecube era. They were also made playable because they brought something unique to the table. Golden Sun is neither an important part of Nintendo's history or a popular franchise.

Personally I don’t think he was being satiric with the topic, sure this whole video might have been a joke just to piss people around, but at the same he tries to put in some “research” and facts so that us fans of Smash (that he believes are all toxic and ungrateful except for him) have to shut up because he said so, also if it was satire then why would he waste his time making a 90 min video explaining us, character by character, that they can’t get in because of (sometimes good) reasons and opinions he pointed out to each of them while screaming at the mic and the constant name calling. In hindsight I’m grateful that all of these characters ended up getting in the game, although I think a slight difference would’ve made the game even better, Shadow as an echo fighter instead of Richter and making Richter an alt skin for Simon, Piranha Plant or Paper Mario as the one off first DLC character, then with fighters pass 1: Joker, Dante, Banjo & Kazooie, Kazuya, Byleth, then fighters pass 2: Min Min, Steve, Sephiroth, Pyra & Mythra, Dr. Eggman and lastly ending with Sora.

R.O.B is probably the only exception to the rule of "video game only" characters since he's not technically a video game character. Even the video games you use him for (Gyromite and Stack-Up) don't actually feature him in the game. However, he did show up as a bonus character for Mario Kart DS. Just a technicality, but some fun trivia I guess.
He is a toy, yes, but also a video game peripheral and was packaged with the nes, allowing it to be sold as a toy. He is just as important to video games and Nintendo as Mario (arguably). And he is exclusively related to video games with direct contact with video games (gyromite and stack up).

I’ve played Super Mario Land and Daisy has just as much personality as Waluigi and NONE of it is from that game. She doesn’t have as much moveset potential as Waluigi, who’s pretty much the goofy wildcard character in the series. Wario is grounded in his goofiness, it’s based around being gross, biting, farting, etc. Waluigi’s goofiness is more out there, from devious traps that end up backfiring sometimes to literally swimming through the air to whatever the hell else any developer can think up, he has TONS of potential to be a specially fun character! Calling him a “poor man’s Wario” is being incredibly ignorant. I guess it’s still fair to prefer Daisy for being a more grounded character, but I don’t agree with that
TBH I’d replace Rosalina with any Mario character. Now I do not hate her. Mario Galaxy 2 was my favorite Mario game (until Odyssey happened which is one of my favorite games ever). But every time I play against her I get flashbacks to her days in Wii U
To everyone saying how rosalina is more popular than waluigi: Nobody cared about Rosalina in Super Mario Galaxy. Nintendo basically shoved her down our throats by including her in all the mario kart games since, and also that doesn't apply to her popularity apparently. Waluigi represents all the spin-off mario games, and Rosalina can only represent like two games by being floaty and having a star. She isn't all that unique anymore because of Ice Climbers, and Waluigi would be because he could beat the crap out of people with a tennis racket and swim in the air. He also has his own following of fans and I'd argue is just as popular as Rosalina. Why am I supposed to care about a girl with less personality than Daisy? (Daisy does have a good amount of personality in Mario Strikers but OOP it's a spin-off game so I guess it doesn't count)
i like the video but you miss a big point, smash has changed. it is no longer a celebration of just nintendo but gaming as a whole. So you cant say a character is bad because it is not nintendo. This is also why Goku should never be in the game because he is an anime character. Sometimes you need to remove a little bias to have a good opinion backed up with facts
To be fair, you can make the argument that despite being licensed, some of the joke characters like Goku do actually have some sort of impact in gaming. In Goku's case for example, the dragon ball games are not only arguably the most well-known games based on an anime, but Budokai Tenkaichi 3 also still holds the record for the 2nd largest roster in all of gaming. (With Tobal 2 being the only one to surpass it) Or, alternately, to bring up another popular joke pick; Spongebob, Battle for Bikini Bottom has been largely considered to be the shining example of how to do a licensed game right and proof that not all licensed games have to be mediocre garbage. Granted, the fact that they're licensed still obliterates any chance of them appearing in Smash, (for now anyway, never say never) and this obviously doesnt hold true for every meme/joke character, but still. There are arguments to be made about their impact on gaming despite it not being the media type they orignated from.

Seriously, at this point, I'm pretty sure the only character types that have yet to appear in Smash in some shape or form are licensed characters, characters whose series have never been on a nintendo system in any shape or form, (Ex: Abe from Oddworld, Hat Kid from A Hat in Time, etc) and characters that are owned by other first party companies. (Ex: Banjo, Steve from Minecraft, etc) Shoot, indie characters are actually getting pretty close to being up for grabs for newcomers at this point if Shovel Knight being an Assist and Shantae being a Spirit are any indication. Almost kinda makes you wonder at what point does this end up just going from "A celebration of all things gaming" to "Lawyer-friendly MUGEN". (Not that I would mind the latter happening admittedly)

He's using the extremity to make his points as clear as possible. Points being: Tales is niche as all hell. It's a series only known by people who are really into the gaming scene. Smash isn't just for those types of people. The whole point of Smash is inclusivity. If Tales were Nintendo it would be different but as a third party pick it would be very much pointless and only please a very small percentage of those who ever play smash. He was a bit cut-throat with Heihachi but everything he said makes sense. When the game is being made by a man who can get Cloud Strife in, the fact that Heihachi is a much more attainable pick becomes moot. He wouldn't bring much to the table that Ryu doesn't. And Tekken is nowhere near as iconic as SF. And he actually brought up a *very* good point with Sora despite all the KH bashing. Say he makes it in. If he comes with Disney content it would sully the whole point of Smash - a celebration of video games - and be very unfitting. If he doesn't come with Disney content then they wouldn't be doing KH honest or remotely fair representation. Also, as a side note, KH does in fact have some of the worst writing, laziest voice directing, and contrived sentimentality I've ever seen in any work of fiction.

As a Bandana Dee fan, while feeling punched in the gut, I am still incredibly grateful for the amazing game that Sakurai has made so far. For character movesets, I will appreciate ANY and EVERY character that is unique and fun to play. I believe that every character can have a moveset made for them that can be completely awesome. We may have COMPLETELY different choices for Smash characters, but that's okay.

The justification I keep hearing for Waluigi is that he’d be a unique sort of representative; the mario franchise is so unbelievably *massive* that the spinoffs have their own franchises, and whenever I hear mention of Waluigi, it’s always as him being a representative of the mario sports titles (fitting, given he debuted in one)

The swearing doesn't bother me, but the harsh stomping and the hypocracy does. He's acting as though wanting an unrealistic character makes you a basement dweller who doesn't shower, and is incredibly ungrateful for Sakurai's work, which I disagree with entirely. I want both realistic and unrealistic characters, but I'm still very grateful for what he's done.

I don't think you can just make a set of basic rules and apply it to the entire cast. The very fact that there are exceptions that apply to most characters should say that. There is no criteria; Sakurai and co choose characters for specific reasons. These specific reasons may often align with what you pointed out, but they don't have to. Sakurai loves Persona, and that's likely a major reason he chose Joker. Having one spinoff on the 3DS doesn't qualify for a rep in my eyes, if we're going by Nintendo relationships. Nintendo relationships can be a reason, like with Bayonetta, but it's not necessary if the character has other major reasons to be chosen. I think that instead of having specific rules, we should look at any and all reasons a character has and gauge their likelyhood or how much they "deserve" it off of that. Whether it be fan popularity, commercial success, hype/surprise factor, or any number of other things. Also, I don't think anybody gives Sans enough credit. He may be a joke, but he's also much more than that. His game is the most impactful indie game on the market, barring Minecraft. He has great moveset potential from his boss fight alone, and he's just in general a good character. If any indie character, again, barring Minecraft, deserves get in Smash, it's him.

I decided to watch this video after your hilarious endgame one. This one is funny too. Your rants in the "D-tier trash" picks are well addressed and even have some comedy thrown in to boot. My favorite character ever is Koopa Kid. I'm not sure if you remember him from the earlier Mario Party games; he was Bowser's main right-hand minion. I have been a steady Koopa Kid stan since getting familiar with the GameCube MP games. Even so, I realize that he has _minimal_ chance of joining Smash at all. See, while Koopa Kid is present in many Mario Parties, he was nothing more than just a flunky to the main antagonist Bowser. Moreover, he would be succeeded by Bowser Jr., who is a playable fighter in Smash. Junior is just more recognizable and marketable than Koopa Kid ever was. To echo a point made made in your video, I don't need Super Smash Bros. to validate my love for specific characters. If I ever feel nostalgic for Koopa Kid, I can always fire up a classic Mario Party. It helps to look at things from a realistic, logical POV. Doing this helps me to enjoy the roster we currently have in Smash, including all of the major Super Mario reps.
Perfect opportunity for Sakurai to use his imagination and suggestions from the Zelda devs on a kit for Skull Kid, on top of pulling from his kit in Hyrule Warriors. I mean the argument against Skull Kid are shaky at best because the roster could use another Zelda rep, the roster could use more villains, and Majora’s Mask is considered the best (or on par with Ocarina of Time) Zelda by a lot of fans (and for good reason).

Well, both sides do have a point...But there were Waluigi fanatics that apparently went as far as to blow up Sakurai's social media, demanding him to be playable. I think some even insulted Sakurai. That said....It'd be kinda fair if Waluigi isn't playable, y'know?
At this point most fans don’t hate waluigi or his actual fans. However waluigi fanboys who don’t shut up about him is getting on people nerves with their denial, constant begging for sakurai to change his mind, and accusing anyone who doesn’t want waluigi as a hater.

Waluigi haters are usually the people that say that Waluigi is a trash character and accuse his entire fanbase harrasses Sakurai. I don't think he will be in Ultimate, despite being a fan, and there is no point attacking Sakurai. Waluigi haters also usually argue about the points refuted in the comment. Most Waluigi fans want him in for his great personality, or to represent the Mario spinoffs. very few genuine fans want Waluigi in for the memes anyway. Another thing you could add is that Rosalina was literally just added to promote Super Mario 3d World, Bowser jr. is only in because his character was already nearly finished, and Daisy is literally just a filler character and a clone. No Mario character that has actually been highly requested has appeared in Smash since Brawl (Wario).
@@vrthird5644 actually some of your information is wrong. Rosalina is one of the most popular mario characther so her being in smash was not surprising. Bowser jr was also requested too. Both of these characthers have done a lot of things in their franchises to be consider playable (rosalina for the galaxy franchise and bowser jr being a villan.plus both of them are fairly popular heck rosalina has been added in almost everything now.) As for daisy, yes she is a clone however the reason why they also included her in ultimate is due to high demand during the ballot. Sakurai has confirmed in famitsu articles that the fighters for ultimate were heavily requested due to the ballot. Daisy would've been skipped if it wasn't for her fans since she was just a palette swap before and got promoted to playable

Alright, time to make a comment that the creator of the video won't even read. I understand why you feel this way, even chuckled abit, but lemme tell you my opinion.
Look, I get it. On the base, Joe and the Chorus Kids don't have much moveset potential. Hell, I'm in the minority that wants Joe instead of Chorus Kids. But think of characters like Mr. Game & Watch or Duck Hunt. Who said they were only entitled to their select few of minigames? Rhythm Heaven is a massive minigame compilation that has a colorful pallet of unique and weird scenarios. Some of those could be referenced in a moveset for smash, like I mentioned, how Game & Watch references minigames in his series. A point that most people don't bring up however is the lack of rhythm game representation in the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly fine with having them not make it, but out of the 70 characters in Ultimate, how many characters represent a greatly current genre of video games? None of them, and don't even get me started on DK's old Final Smash.
Edit: To rival your "No-one knows this franchise" argument: Think of how many characters you could say the same for if Smash didn't shine light on them!
Captain Falcon, R.O.B, Pit. You'd be lying if you told me you knew who Ness was before Super Smash Bros hit the scene.
The logic I usually go with when I think of good Smash characters is that they would play exactly the same as they do in their respective series, so when I see people request characters like Ashley, Chorus Kids, and other characters that don't really do anything, I sort of just don't get the point. I mean, when Bayonetta, Simon, Ryu, and the Inkling were included in Smash, it was like you were playing as those character, but in Super Smash Bros, which I think really improves on the aspect of a video game cross over party game. I mean, if you want to have a giant cross-over, you'd want the characters to feel exactly like they do in their respective games, so when Sakurai creates movesets not based off the character's actual abilities, I just don't think it's as interesting. That's why I always found Ganondorf to be kind of disappointing as a Captain Falcon clone, because he doesn't do any of those attacks in The Legend of Zelda. It's like, sure, Ganondorf is in the game, but it was at the cost of not being true to the source material.
I mean, even as obscure as a pick as ROB is, at least they shoot the same toys they interact with as projectiles. It's not perfect, but it's an inclusion that feel more genuine to what ROB actually was. I guess I wouldn't mind the Chorus Kids being included with a made up moveset based off of the Rythem Heaven mini-games and it would work just fine, but I guess I'm just not as excited by the prospect when you could include a ton of other characters with more genuine abilities.
I mean, I'm not all too excited about Piranha Plant either, but at least the abilities are all based off of the multiple incarnations of Piranha Plant from the Super Mario series. It took the potted Plant version from 3D World, some of the poison abilities, the projectiles, the ability to extend it's body, and it all comes together well enough and isn't entirely made up from the get go (besides some of his tilt attacks)
At the end of the day, I guess I just prefer characters that feel more authentic.

Ice Climbers are a shitty pick, but game play wise, their at least the most interesting out of all the other niche/weird-ass characters. Basically, their unique moveset makes up for how shitty they are.
I don't necessarily have a problem with Geno's moveset potential, but there's so many more interesting characters you could add instead that I don't see him as a high priority pick. He's also incredibly over-hyped all things considered and the only point I really made in the video is that he's not that special. At the end of the day, don't really care either way. Same here. I'd really love Banjo, but yeah, Sadly he's not a Nintendo property anymore. He's not had a new game in almost 20 years, and even then, his entire series sold less than the first Crash game, which sold the lowest of the trilogy. He definitely deserves a spot in Smash because of how iconic his games were, and the history with nintendo, but saying that's because of relevance is really incorrect.

He basically says you're not allowed to hope your favorite character gets into the game, and he's incredibly ungrateful for the characters we have in the game (despite how he started the video, calling other smash bros fans ungrateful).

I'm sorry but what? Crash Bandicoot & Spyro & Rayman aren't related to Nintendo? How about the exclusive Crash & Spyro games on GBA? Rayman also had Rayman Advanced, Rayman 3. They've also had ports of their games on Nintendo consoles like the GameCube.
I'm not denying that Crash and Spyro aren't related to Nintendo, but that by the time they were on Nintendo consoles, both of their series were becoming really mediocre. The peak of their popularity was definitely on the Playstation, which is why I always associated them with Sony instead of a multiplatform franchise. I suppose as far as Smash is cornered, it doesn't really matter if those games were good or bad, but it was just something I wanted to bring up.
Rayman's definitely my favorite out of the three, but he's just not a high priority pick for me.

Comparing him to pink gold Peach is the funniest shit I’ve heard in a long time, because that isn’t an accurate comparison whatsoever. Almost as irrelevant as Geno, and he won't mean a thing to anyone who never owned a 64 (Pretty much anyone under the age of 20 by this point). He's a quintessential boomer pick. Also, he's not a big a gaming icon as you think he is. To put it into perspective, the first Crash Bandicoot, the lowest selling in the original trilogy, outsold Banjo's entire series combined. Moveset potential's real good, but I always found the whole 'history with Nintendo' to be mostly moot when you consider Snake (Yeah, he started in the NES, but people know him from Metal Gear Solid over the original Metal Gear titles), Cloud (A clear PS1 star) and Joker (Again, more of a Playstation character,) so the whole history with Nintendo advantage isn't a big factor.
Smash has a certain criteria to live up to it's not just a M.U.G.E.N fanfic to shove indie and platformer mascots that have nothing to do with Nintendo in because they happen to be cartoony video game characters. And don't we have enough "PlayStation reps" as it is?
Banjo and kazzoie are legends and I prefer them much more than Mario obviously sonic is my best character since I group up playing his games from one to the rest of them but banjo and kazzoie have been being thought about and suggested since melee that's a true fact and my opinion is if you think about it dlc will be characters from games that AIN'T Nintendo so maybe a long shot but even goku could be in the game considering his a fighting character a popular suggestion and is also a well known character in Japan and we already know there fans of him for the fact on one of the videos they have figurines of dbz on the desk and even have them of skull kid too

Actually.....people enjoy Kingdom Hearts for its gameplay largely (yes the story is a cluster fuck but that's not why i play the series) also the Disney Renaissance characters and worlds are a great addition for nostalgia, as well as the Final Fantasy cameos. (Yes they are there as fan service, but that's why fans love it so much)
Also the games can be hard as hell on Proud Mode.

It’s a perfect opportunity for Sakurai to use his imagination and suggestions from the Zelda devs on a kit for Skull Kid, on top of pulling from his kit in Hyrule Warriors.
I mean this argument against Skull Kid is shaky at best because the roster could use another Zelda rep, the roster could use more villains, and Majora’s Mask is considered the best (or on par with Ocarina of Time) Zelda by a lot of fans (and for good reason).
Your point about Bandana Dee would have been valid if Bandana Dee wasn’t a main character, if Bandana Dee was already in, and people were asking about Marx or Magolor, then your point would have been valid.
Yeah, I suppose that's true, but do you really think that Marx or Magolor will get in before Waddle Dee? I guess the logic I was trying to get across was that the more popular a character is, the more likely they will appear in Super Smash Bros. I mean, it's been so long since Melee came out, but were people really requesting Marx before Meta Knight or King Dedede were in? I suppose the way I see it is that Marx is somewhere on par with Waddle Dee in importance in the Kirby series,, but more people are just rallying behind Waddle since he's the fourth most popular character. Not to say that people don't want other Kirby characters as well, but I think that Waddle Dee is the most logical choice to be included next (while also being the most highly requested by the fans).
That's why when I was talking about The Legend of Zelda, there really isn't a logical choice to include next, because in the importance of The Legend of Zelda, all the side characters are sort of on par with each other. People really want Skullkid next and a lot of people want other Zelda characters as well, but I wouldn't say that Skullkid has the same kind of importance in The Legend of Zelda as Waddle Dee does in the Kirby series.
I suppose this logic doesn't work with everything, but I hope I'm getting the point across.

I meant that Bandana Dee is more important than every other Kirby character except for the three in smash and Dark Matter (and the entirety of Dark Matter are as large as planets.) while Marx, Magolor, etc. are all of less equal importance of the Kirby series, not just in popularity. I agree about the whole "relevancy" thing.
What people don't get about the "relevancy" argument is that it's not about being relevant *right now,* it's about being relevant or important *at some point during Nintendo's history.* King K. Rool is the perfect example. Golden Sun, while acclaimed by the people who played it, is really a niche RPG that didn't really get mainstream attention on par with other major releases/franchises. GBA was my childhood console and I played and discussed it for years and I basically didn't know Golden Sun existed until the "Isaac for Smash" movement started. All of this also applies to Geno. Despite what I just said, Isaac *at least* has his own series and is the protagonist of it, Geno is literally just a side character from an old Mario spin-off that didn't even nearly get as much attention as basically any relevant Mario characters. Even characters like Wii Fit Trainer and Duck Hunt were more recognizable than Isaac/Geno before they were made playable in Smash.
I wouldn't be angry if Isaac was made playable in Smash but the "relevancy" argument is fully valid to an extent and is a good reason to *not* include characters like Isaac and Geno, they were never important, impactful or popular in Nintendo's history.
I think the reason fans are desperate to include niche characters like Geno and Isaac is because their inclusions could artificially increase the popular of said characters, and thus increase the chances of getting the next sequel to Super Mario RPG/Golden Sun. For example, Sakuria included Pit in Brawl, which allowed Sakuria to then develop a new Kid Icarus game, to then include even more Kid Icarus characters. You could even say the same thing about Fire Emblem. I also think the fans want their favorite games to be validated through Super Smash Bros, which I think is kind of an unhealthy way to approach things.
Couldn't you also use this logic to approve Spyro in Smash?
What about Ice Climbers though? They seem pretty niche to me, they only had one game.

Believe it or not, but more people remember Ice Climbers as a game than Golden Sun. There weren't nearly as many notable games in the NES era compared to the GBA/Gamecube era. They were also made playable because they brought something unique to the table. Golden Sun is neither an important part of Nintendo's history or a popular franchise.

In hindsight I’m grateful that all of these characters ended up getting in the game, although I think a slight difference would’ve made the game even better, Shadow as an echo fighter instead of Richter and making Richter an alt skin for Simon, Piranha Plant or Paper Mario as the one off first DLC character, then with fighters pass 1: Joker, Dante, Banjo & Kazooie, Kazuya, Byleth, then fighters pass 2: Min Min, Steve, Sephiroth, Pyra & Mythra, Dr. Eggman and lastly ending with Sora.
Have to admit, this was pretty fun to watch, even though you dissed my most wanted DLC fighter (that even I think is really unlikely and weird) this was a good video

R.O.B is probably the only exception to the rule of "video game only" characters since he's not technically a video game character. Even the video games you use him for (Gyromite and Stack-Up) don't actually feature him in the game. However, he did show up as a bonus character for Mario Kart DS. Just a technicality, but some fun trivia I guess.
He is a toy, yes, but also a video game peripheral and was packaged with the nes, allowing it to be sold as a toy. He is just as important to video games and Nintendo as Mario (arguably). And he is exclusively related to video games with direct contact with video games (gyromite and stack up).

Spaceman Alph Daisy is a sassy, outspoken, energetic tomboy. Wuluigi is nothing more then a poorman wario clone that makes stupid noises. And Japan don't like him anyway. People who say mario land is obscure never play the game so they just down play it out of ignorance.
I’ve played Super Mario Land and Daisy has just as much personality as Waluigi and NONE of it is from that game. She doesn’t have as much moveset potential as Waluigi, who’s pretty much the goofy wildcard character in the series. Wario is grounded in his goofiness, it’s based around being gross, biting, farting, etc. Waluigi’s goofiness is more out there, from devious traps that end up backfiring sometimes to literally swimming through the air to whatever the hell else any developer can think up, he has TONS of potential to be a specially fun character! Calling him a “poor man’s Wario” is being incredibly ignorant. I guess it’s still fair to prefer Daisy for being a more grounded character, but I don’t agree with that

Nobody cared about Rosalina in Super Mario Galaxy. Nintendo basically shoved her down our throats by including her in all the mario kart games since, and also that doesn't apply to her popularity apparently. Waluigi represents all the spin-off mario games, and Rosalina can only represent like two games by being floaty and having a star. She isn't all that unique anymore because of Ice Climbers, and Waluigi would be because he could beat the crap out of people with a tennis racket and swim in the air. He also has his own following of fans and I'd argue is just as popular as Rosalina. Why am I supposed to care about a girl with less personality than Daisy? (Daisy does have a good amount of personality in Mario Strikers but OOP it's a spin-off game so I guess it doesn't count)

i like the video but you miss a big point, smash has changed. it is no longer a celebration of just nintendo but gaming as a whole. So you cant say a character is bad because it is not nintendo. This is also why Goku should never be in the game because he is an anime character. Sometimes you need to remove a little bias to have a good opinion backed up with facts

To be fair, you can make the argument that despite being licensed, some of the joke characters like Goku do actually have some sort of impact in gaming.
In Goku's case for example, the dragon ball games are not only arguably the most well-known games based on an anime, but Budokai Tenkaichi 3 also still holds the record for the 2nd largest roster in all of gaming. (With Tobal 2 being the only one to surpass it)
Or, alternately, to bring up another popular joke pick; Spongebob, Battle for Bikini Bottom has been largely considered to be the shining example of how to do a licensed game right and proof that not all licensed games have to be mediocre garbage.
Granted, the fact that they're licensed still obliterates any chance of them appearing in Smash, (for now anyway, never say never) and this obviously doesnt hold true for every meme/joke character, but still. There are arguments to be made about their impact on gaming despite it not being the media type they orignated from.

Seriously, at this point, I'm pretty sure the only character types that have yet to appear in Smash in some shape or form are licensed characters, characters whose series have never been on a nintendo system in any shape or form, (Ex: Abe from Oddworld, Hat Kid from A Hat in Time, etc) and characters that are owned by other first party companies. (Ex: Banjo, Steve from Minecraft, etc) Shoot, indie characters are actually getting pretty close to being up for grabs for newcomers at this point if Shovel Knight being an Assist and Shantae being a Spirit are any indication.

Points being:
Tales is niche as all hell. It's a series only known by people who are really into the gaming scene. Smash isn't just for those types of people. The whole point of Smash is inclusivity. If Tales were Nintendo it would be different but as a third party pick it would be very much pointless and only please a very small percentage of those who ever play smash.
He was a bit cut-throat with Heihachi but everything he said makes sense. When the game is being made by a man who can get Cloud Strife in, the fact that Heihachi is a much more attainable pick becomes moot. He wouldn't bring much to the table that Ryu doesn't. And Tekken is nowhere near as iconic as SF.
And he actually brought up a *very* good point with Sora despite all the KH bashing. Say he makes it in. If he comes with Disney content it would sully the whole point of Smash - a celebration of video games - and be very unfitting. If he doesn't come with Disney content then they wouldn't be doing KH honest or remotely fair representation.
Also, as a side note, KH does in fact have some of the worst writing, laziest voice directing, and contrived sentimentality I've ever seen in any work of fiction.

As a Bandana Dee fan, while feeling punched in the gut, I am still incredibly grateful for the amazing game that Sakurai has made so far. For character movesets, I will appreciate ANY and EVERY character that is unique and fun to play. I believe that every character can have a moveset made for them that can be completely awesome. We may have COMPLETELY different choices for Smash characters, but that's okay.

The swearing doesn't bother me, but the harsh stomping and the hypocracy does. He's acting as though wanting an unrealistic character makes you a basement dweller who doesn't shower, and is incredibly ungrateful for Sakurai's work, which I disagree with entirely. I want both realistic and unrealistic characters, but I'm still very grateful for what he's done.

WanderKrew if he was just joking why did he go full damage control in the comments? That’s not what someone who’s joking would normally do. While the video may be satire his comments aren’t. Even so for new viewers it’s not clear if it’s satire or not due to his contradictions in focus and points.
WanderKrew if this is 'comedy' then good lord is it bad. It's pretty clear that he is being 100% serious in this video and venting anger at people on forums, if anything he symbolises the stereotype of a basement dweller better than the fans of these characters he hates so much.
I don't think you can just make a set of basic rules and apply it to the entire cast. The very fact that there are exceptions that apply to most characters should say that. There is no criteria; Sakurai and co choose characters for specific reasons. These specific reasons may often align with what you pointed out, but they don't have to.
Sakurai loves Persona, and that's likely a major reason he chose Joker. Having one spinoff on the 3DS doesn't qualify for a rep in my eyes, if we're going by Nintendo relationships. Nintendo relationships can be a reason, like with Bayonetta, but it's not necessary if the character has other major reasons to be chosen.
I think that instead of having specific rules, we should look at any and all reasons a character has and gauge their likelyhood or how much they "deserve" it off of that. Whether it be fan popularity, commercial success, hype/surprise factor, or any number of other things.
Also, I don't think anybody gives Sans enough credit. He may be a joke, but he's also much more than that. His game is the most impactful indie game on the market, barring Minecraft. He has great moveset potential from his boss fight alone, and he's just in general a good character. If any indie character, again, barring Minecraft, deserves get in Smash, it's him.
Id be fine with someone making rule theories but going 20+ minutes with exceptions should tell you how factual your rules are.

My favorite character ever is Koopa Kid. I'm not sure if you remember him from the earlier Mario Party games; he was Bowser's main right-hand minion. I have been a steady Koopa Kid stan since getting familiar with the GameCube MP games. Even so, I realize that he has _minimal_ chance of joining Smash at all.
See, while Koopa Kid is present in many Mario Parties, he was nothing more than just a flunky to the main antagonist Bowser. Moreover, he would be succeeded by Bowser Jr., who is a playable fighter in Smash. Junior is just more recognizable and marketable than Koopa Kid ever was.
To echo a point made made in your video, I don't need Super Smash Bros. to validate my love for specific characters. If I ever feel nostalgic for Koopa Kid, I can always fire up a classic Mario Party.
It helps to look at things from a realistic, logical POV. Doing this helps me to enjoy the roster we currently have in Smash, including all of the major Super Mario reps.
The skull kid part was HILARIOUS. It really shows that some of the ideas for characters people have don't have anything going for them
Perfect opportunity for Sakurai to use his imagination and suggestions from the Zelda devs on a kit for Skull Kid, on top of pulling from his kit in Hyrule Warriors.
I mean the argument against Skull Kid are shaky at best because the roster could use another Zelda rep, the roster could use more villains, and Majora’s Mask is considered the best (or on par with Ocarina of Time) Zelda by a lot of fans (and for good reason).

Kyle Egner to be fair, he had 1 game when he was first put into brawl (i think, though he mightve had 2? though if so i think it was only in japan, but i may be making that up) and with only 2 now, and a new game doesnt seem to be coming out soon (sadly, i like pit a lot honestly! i had to watch an lp to experience uprising since i was garbage at the game haha)
