    Xt 250 maybe the perfect all purpose motorcycle for the
    Price... I ride my Xt 250 mostly offroad but sometimes
    skirt off to the store....... What's nice I can leave the pavement at 40 mph hit dirt without missing a beat . Very stable on and off road. any body thinking xt 250 has no
    power, will be pleasantly surprised...
    I would say the xt 250 is more a dirt bike than street bike .but that a plus in my book ...

    I bought my 2021 back in March. I have over 1000 miles on it and use it for commutes in town. Top speeds 55- 60mph range. I am 5'10 1/2 tall. No issue with height because I can sit back easy. I must say it is a really nice bike and I have no complaints. Of course I live on a dirt road and will take it on fields to check on my horses too. I love the visibility on the road and it is very maneuverable. Easy to get out of the way when you need to. I regret not having a larger street bike at times but honestly it is much easier to get on and off when you are in town making stops. Wind can be an issue since the bike is lighter and I only weigh 142 pounds......but I have no complaints. Great bike and I am not in debt!

      I am 5'9", 70 years old and weigh 125 lbs. I got rid of my KLR650 for a Himalayan then sold it with 1500 miles on it to get the XT. I'm tired of the heavy bikes that I can't pick up when they fall. It's still not easy to pick up, but I manage to do it. I really like the lightweight XT. It reminds my of my childhood days riding dirt with my Honda XL125. I wish Honda still made that bike. I have several light bikes, the 2021 Honda Trail 125, Vespa 300GTS and the Honda CT70 chinese clone with 125cc engine.

    • @spydie
      @spydie  3 года назад

      @@lilredwagon5311 Weight can be an issue with all the small bikes, but I know a lot of guys at your weight riding the new Honda CT125. I think you'll like the XT. My only complaint is the high-speed wobble which I'm hoping will go away with different tires. Also I have a windshield coming for it and that might have an impact (negative or positive) on the wobble. I can't see any reason for this bike to have a wobble. It's heavier than my CT125 and I've had it up to 65 mph (downhill) and it has no wobble. If you wag the handlebars from side to side while going down the road, you can see how easy it is to get the XT to wobble. But if you wag the handlebars on any other bike, it does not do that. It makes no sense. I've got a large rear carry rack coming for it on july 23 (Happytrails.com is a month behind in their production) and I might get their pannier mounts and panniers later.

      @@lilredwagon5311 I've got to do half a mile of gravel on the way to town, and it's 45mph all the way in. But country roads are 55-65 mph and it can do that. But like any good and useful bike, you really need a rear carry rack and some sort of tail bag to carry stuff when you go to town.

    I've had my 2015 XT250 with FI go on reserve as low as 210km....but I had a fuel can with me so rode it all the way back to camp with the reserve light blinking - made it to 280km and still running!...I then filled it and pretty sure I still had a litre to go before dry. I'm confident with reasonable throttle this bike will cover 250-300km on a tank but I always carry insurance fuel if I think I'll be out there longer.

      I actually sold it a couple days ago and ordered a new Honda Monkey which won't be here until this fall. The XT has a couple problems I didn't like. One was the high speed wobble I couldn't get rid of and the other thing I didn't like was the loud exhaust. I don't know why they can't make them as quiet as other bikes like my Vespa 300GTS. You can hardly hear that run and it will run 80 mph all day long with no high-speed wobble.

      @@stevew5171 I'm afraid my videos have dried up. I did a lot of videos for the CT125 when I got the first one in NM and most of the videos online were in Thailand and non-english, with only an English speaking one (retired okie living in thailand) and a guy in Australia (a little hard to understand the accent at times). So it was a relatively new bike with no American videos at all when I started. But guys are still turning out new videos, a year later, like it's something new to look at. Same with the Himalayan. All the videos were in India with very poor English (if at all). So that prompted maintenance videos from me in English. The Kawasaki W800 is such a limited production bike that I had to do a couple on that, as is the Moto Guzzi. But the XT250 has thousands of videos on it, and nothing has changed on the bike except fuel injection, so anything I do is just a repeat of what's already out there. And even though the Guzzi (you never see one on the road) is such a limited production bike, it's been in the US for about a hundred years now, so there's tons of videos on it, but mostly on the older ones. But they haven't changed much over the years. Valve adjustments are still the same. There just isn't much need for XT250 videos out there anymore except just to show it off when you first get it. But have fun with it and show it off on your channel.

    • @spydie
      @spydie  3 года назад +4

      I thought about the KLX300 or the Honda CRF300L Rally, but both are too tall for a guy with 32" inseam. I would have preferred a 300cc over a 250. The only complaint I have on the XT is it is a very twitchy bike over about 60 mph. It starts to wobble. You can ride any bike and wag the handlebars back and forth and they are very stable, except the XT, the wag will induce a wobble that could get out of control. It wobbles very easy. I'm hoping street tires will fix that. Putting on a windshield didn't help it nor make it worse.

    Love my XT250 - more smiles per mile, lowest cost bike I've ever owned, and it's a mountain goat. I go 100Km into the Canadian back country with faith in it's reliability and proven history. Someone else I know described it as a "mountain bike with a motor"...maybe a bit of a stretch at about 290lbs, but with the trials bike turning circle, amazing ground clearance, and not enough horsepower to hurt me if I get whiskey throttle (no, I never drink and ride) - it is the dual sport bike for me! You can have your expensive, high horsepower, high maintenance, and unreliable KTM's all day long - I'll just putter on by on my XT all day long! Just passed 3100mi on my '21 XT, and I still love 90% of it. I couldn't ask for much more out of a commuter, and I wish I had more dirt out there to have some additional funsies on.
    Since it's basically street for me, I don't mind the tiny pegs; they're almost sport bike small, but I do see how most XT owners have been unhappy on them for standing. I'm on the fence about swapping them. And yeah, past 60mph things start to wiggle, esp on rain grooves.
    I haven't even been on my Duc in months... xD

    • @spydie
      @spydie  2 года назад +2

      I read a lot of forums about the high speed wobble and many guys commented that changing out the knobby tires for more street oriented ones would fix that. It didn't. But I found out that the biggest thing to help it is 1. take off the Barkbuster handguards. They are about 80% of the problem because when it's starts to wobble, they aggravate it and make it worse. I hate giving up the handguards, but it's a lot more stable now. Secondly, if I slide back in the seat it gets better. If I slide all the way forward, it gets worse.
      I find that standing on this bike (I'm 5' 10") is not comfortable like my KLR650 or Himalayan. The pegs are too high and the bars are too low. It's not a good standing bike if you want to stay standing and riding. It's more of a "stand for a little through the roughest part" type of bike but not something you want to stand on for longer periods like the aforementioned bikes.
      Mine is basically a street bike also, although I do ride a little dirt, mostly pretty good gravel roads and a little sand. I have a rear rack and pannier racks and a Parabellum windshield on it.

      I have not looked for one but I think it would be hard to find one that would allow a full turn of the handlebars since this has something like a 51-55 degree turn because it's copied after the Yamaha Trials bikes. I got rid of most of the wobble by adjusting the tire pressure. I think more street-oriented tires will clear up the rest. I doubt it will all go away because this is a very light bike that unfortunately was never designed to be stable at high speeds. I think it's probably a design flaw because everyone complains about the wobble.

    • @spydie
      @spydie  3 года назад

      Yeah, a lot of guys comment on the high speed wobble. I did notice that it doesn't do it all the time (it might depend on the wind speed and direction? or road surface?) and when it does start, if I slide back to the rear of the seat it lessens or goes away. I'm thinking just replacing the front tire might solve the problem. I don't know why some guys see it and others don't but there are probably several factors involved. One factor might be your weight. I weigh 125 lbs. Maybe heavier guys don't see it?

      @@BLOOKERIA That extra weight might be the trick (I weigh 125 lbs). Most guys report wobble at 65+ mph and gets worse with speed. The bike can do the published 76 mph (I got 83 mph out of it) but it can get REALLY squirrelly at that speed, so bad that's it's real dangerous. Some report changing out the knobby tires for street tires cures it. I'm curious how the windshield will affect it. I did notice that if I sit way back on the seat, it helps to cure the wobble. Sitting close to the tank makes it worse.

      It's got a lot more power (power to weight ratio) than my Himalayan had. It gets up to 70 mph in about 1/3 the time. I've read online that if you get rid of the knobby tires that the wobble will go away. We'll see as I do more research into that. I don't think I can revalve the front forks. I don't know how and I'm not sure anyone has done that on this bike. I don't know what top speed is yet because by the time I get to 70 mph it's getting too unstable. Yamaha says top speed is 76 mph. I've tried almost everything. I changed the tires for more street tires. didn't help. I took off the hand guards. didn't help. checked the torque on the head bearings. didn't help. and that's about all the forums suggested. One or two other guys on RUclips said putting a frame stabilizer on it (well over $200) fixed it, but I'm not willing to invest that much money in it on something that may not work and no return on the parts. I found it you sit way back on the seat it helps. When you move forward it gets worse. Also if you take your left hand off the handlebar it stops wobbling! All in all I don't consider this a roadworthy bike. It's a dirt bike. Ride it on the road at 55 mph and you're OK. But try to do 65 and it can be dangerous.

I’ve been on bikes that had a death wobble and it’s scary but this 2008 I’ve had for a few years is a great little bike and it’s just right for me. The last couple of bikes I had before were big cruisers and a couple of big sport bikes. The worst death wobble I’ve ever experienced was on a Honda cb 900. It was the most dangerous thing I’ve ever ridden. You could go to high speed under acceleration but when you slow down to around 85 it was evil and dangerous. • @spydie
      @spydie  3 года назад +1

      I actually loved the looks of the Himalayan, but that engine scared me to death. It sounded like the rods were going to come through the case at any time. I've never heard an engine, even a 50 year old engine (of which I've owned quite a few) sound as bad as the Royal Enfield engines. Such terrible noise they make rattling and clanking. Also it just had way too many quirks and problems and bad designs (like not starting and running cold, keeps dying until it's warmed up). It just wasn't what I hoped it would be. And that 411cc engine is not nearly enough engine for that heavy bike. They should have as a minimum put their 535 cc engine in it. (the one with the hydraulic lifters). But it has the same cold start problems and quirks.

      That's an interesting looking bike, but it's a chinese bike imported by CSC in California. I tend to shy away from chinese bikes. I have a CT70 clone (Ice Bear Champion) that is about half as good as the original CT70 (and backward shifting is terrible and the transmission and clutch are junky) and my wife had the Ice Bear Maximus trike. for 300 miles. That was absolute junk. I'm spoiled with the long-term reliability of the Japanese bikes. But your bike is certainly a good looking one for about half the price of the Japanese bikes. The only one that comes close in price is the Royal Enfield Himalayan ($4999), which I kept for 1500 miles and then dumped that piece of junk on someone else! It wouldn't even do 60 mph into a headwind. How many miles do you have on your Chinese bike? Any problems yet?

    I am 100 lbs heavier than you! Do you think this little 250 can handle my weight on dirt like you just demonstrated? What tire pressure are you running front/rear? The XT250 didn’t even break a sweat!

    • @spydie
      @spydie  2 года назад +1

      Hi Kevin, as you know, weight is always a penalty whether you're riding small-engine motorcycles or flying planes. If this had a 650 engine it wouldn't even be a consideration and I know a lot of guys over 200 lbs riding these bikes, but it won't have the same performance as when I ride them. How much of a hit you'll take is anyone's guess so maybe search for more reviews where the guys say how much they weigh? Overall I think you'll still be pretty happy with it. I bought this to be an on-road/off-road bike, but it's not as good on the highway as I had hoped for. It can do the speed but it's not a stable bike and I can't figure out why. If there was an easy way to put a steering dampener on it I would give that a try, but it can get pretty squirrelly above 60 and gets progressively worse the faster you go. I've talked a lot of guys about this and some admit theirs does it, others claim it doesn't (maybe your heavier weight is the key... I might be too light, you'll have to let me know). Others said changing the tires would fix it. It didn't. It was worse with handlebar (barkbuster) protectors. A windshield didn't help either. I'm running factory-recommended tire pressure (I can't remember offhand what that is). A 250 is a good compromise between a dedicated street bike and a dirt bike. It's so much lighter than the adventure bikes that you're not afraid to really take it off-road, because you can pick it up easily if you drop it. And it's faster on the highway than my 400cc Himalayan was, but not as stable. It would be nice to have a Honda CR250 or 300 to test it against, but their seat height is way too tall for me. This has the lowest seat height of any enduro bike. If I was going to ride a LOT of deep sand off-road, I'd get the fat tired Suzuki or Yamaha (I thing that's the DR200 Suzuki or the TW200 Yamaha), but I was afraid I wouldn't like 200cc for highway use. But if they are more stable on the highway, they might actually be better than the XT250. If you get a chance try out both the XT and the TW or DR. Good luck and let me know what you do.

Just remember that it's probably less than 30" when you sit on it and compress the suspension. This is called a "beginner's motorcycle" so it should fit a lot of people. You WISH it had more power? It's a 250cc. You only get more power with bigger engines. I thought about getting a 300cc Honda CLR or Kawasaki KLX but the seat height is too high. I bought this one because it has the lowest seat height you can get on an Enduro. I even thought about the 200cc models (which have a low seat height) like the Suzuki DR200 and Yamaha TW200 bikes but I didn't want less horsepower so this is the biggest engine I can get with the low seat height. It has plenty of power off-road and can do 83 mph on the highway (on a good day and flat ground) just like Yamaha specs say, but unfortunately it's not a good highway bike because it gets high-speed wobble over 60 mph.
