Good stuff, thinking outside the box is a great thing to do when you want to catch more fish. I've been enjoying my spinner baits catching Bass, Catfish and Arowana. G'day from Australia.
j0j0barz33 credit where credit is due. I personally don't use scents, I guess it comes from years of fly fishing, where scents are frowned upon and besides I like to fool the fish by sight.
Happy to see all the negative people in the comments not believing these tips. I do the rattle thing myself and i can say it definitely works, but i've only seen a difference in dirty water. Which make sense... Fish in dirty water would have to use their lateral line and ears more to find food since they can't see super well. Good video, hopefully no one starts doing this.
Great video Jon. Never thought of the paste scent on the blade trick! Looking forward to trying that out! Been following you for a while, I have learned a lot. Thanks again!
I paint my Colorado blades Orange. You didnt put a stinger hook on your spinnerbait. I use a white fluke. Dye the last quarter of the fluke. CHARTREUSE Spike it Garlic. Even use the Fluke as a trailer on my Chatterbaits. Same color combo on the Chatterbait. Shawn.
Hey man thanks for recommending all terrain skirts. I got some of their rubber skirts and they smell like gas!?!? Is this because I got the old school rubber? Have you experienced this? If so do you do anything about it? Thanks again
A bass "hears" in two ways. One is it's inner ear, the other way is it's lateral line, and it "hears" or picks up the vibration from the rotating blades. Just a lower frequency "sound". Still if it mod works Kewel. But to say that a spinner bait has no sound.. hmmmm...
Obviously I’m late to the party on this but out of curiosity wouldn’t you be able to come to the conclusion that having the fish head the spinner bait with both it’s lateral line and it’s inner ear (from the rattle add on) be more effective?
Have my doubts about the rattle in the skirt creating any more sound than the blades do. Had a friend pull a spinner through the pool while I had my head under water and that blade makes a fair amount of noise.
I live scent for dirty water ponds I will use the strike king senkos they are great like them better then yum or yatammotos just cause of the garlic scent
Another good thing to do (a lot of spinnerbaits come with them out of the package now) is to add a trailer hook onto your spinnerbait because it enables you to hook up with those fish that short-strike you.
RigoRocks23 I can't seem to catch either...I have a spinner bait I keep using at ponds and canals I live in wpb Florida and I go at different times of the day and do different retrievals speeds ... what am I doing wrong? only time I caught was with a live bait... ugh so frustrating !!! can u give me sum tips??
Maybe you should bring back these tip videos. The transition from winter to spring is coming up. Post spawn is also around the corner. New anglers starting to watch and may need a little help. K.F.N.S!!
I alway tip mine with a twintailed grub I usually use a grub same colour as skirt ,my biggest pike on a lure in the uk is 16 pound on a spinnerbaits , yellow braids and skirt , yellow twintailed grub .
I think JJ's dyes better... Rattles IMO are a Marketing Ploy, there is a reason most Jig makers have shied away from them.. About 10+ years ago on the Southern Lakes, namely in Texas with our dirty/strained Reservoirs it was all the Rage, gained traction on Fork and Hubbard (Most Pressured Lakes in the South) but soon died down when no real benefits could be measured.
+Eagle971 Marketing ploy it may be but if it increases the angler's confidence in a presentation that angler has a higher chance of getting bites. I'd be willing to wager somebody that has confidence in a spinnerbait with a rattle will catch more fish than somebody that doesn't have confidence in that same exact lure due to the willingness to fish that bait "harder." Just a simple thought.
FishingTheGreatLakes Agreed, I should have mentioned it but I didn't feel it was a necessarily unique point to touch on. I won't throw a spinnerbait unless I've got a trailer hook paired up with it. Too many missed strikes and your chances of a hook up are significantly decreased.
You didn't address the eye where you tie are use a snap swivel. To keep your line or swivel from moving up and down your spinner bait fowling it up when you cast. Slide a split ring over it or cut a little bit of surgical tubing a lot of less headaches and trailer hook. Might throw in a twister tail or paddle. Just a suggestion your the one with a you tube video.
I don't even like skirts on most of my spinners. Just a grub or curly tail, depending on conditions, is plenty. When all else fails, I throw a Beetle Spin with a short grub or two inch curly tail. It seldom fails. I like scent more than color, and sound is good in low visibility situations, but it;s funny how much trouble we often go to in order to make a lure as natural as possible, nd then we add elements to spinners that are nothing like real fish. No fish rattles, for instance. I don't know. Maybe we each catch fish by tuning a spinner, or other lure, to our own fishing techniques? I catch a lot more bass with a plain spinner. No sound other than the blade, a grub or short curly tail on a jig head of whatever weight conditions warrant, and no skirt. When I do use a spinner with a skirt, I like adding a plump, round piece of plastic to the hook that mimics an insect's abdomen, and I'll often tie the skirt with a loop that let's the abdomen show better. I like anything that makes a lure look and act more like something found in nature. Though, honestly, the fun factor of modifying a lure so it hooks a big fish ranks way up there, as well.
NateDoner Always a trailer hook, but I didn't feel that was a very unique modification as some spinnerbaits will even come pre-equipped with a tailer hook out of the package.
you tried so hard to sound professional. you were like this blade is gonna be in the water colum so you should put scent on it. lol but was funny b it good video
+Terry L Actually! Many fish posses what's known as otoliths which are essentially "earstones." These earstones allow the fish to hear, the lateral line is used to pick up vibration in the water caused by turbulence, the fish hears through its otoliths and feels through the lateral line.
Gotta call BS on this - while it's a good idea to think outside the box, the rattle does no good at all on a spinnerbait since it's not fished like a jig, constantly bumping into things - better for bottom presentation; bait scent for spinnerbaits is pointless - quickly rubs off in high-speed fishing, and better for finese fishing relying less on impulse bites and more on presentation; dipping skirts for multi-color is pointless unless adding some red for injured effect. In high pressure waters, the right presentation beats extra noise any day.
Good stuff, thinking outside the box is a great thing to do when you want to catch more fish.

1:28 "Great fish for catching lures." Jon b at his finest

I'm here in 2019 and you've come so far! Good job Jon!
Great video Jon. Never thought of the paste scent on the blade trick! Looking forward to trying that out! Been following you for a while, I have learned a lot. Thanks again!
Well i learned something today! Awesome vid Jon! You should do more videos like this!
+Zachary Mace Thanks Zach!
I’ve been trying to figure out where to put scent on my spinnerbaits with bad results. But this tip will be a game changer! Thanks dude! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Those are nice tips Jon! Loved the dipped chartreuse modification tip...
do more informational videos like this!! love it man!
Great video i have used some of the same modifications and they work great!
fantastic! Awesome stuff Jon,
Now I can catch good fishing thanks to this product
Spinnerbaits don't really need a noise factor. It has blades putting out lots of vibration, and the fish can feel it with there lateral line.
This video is very well put together
he moves his hands around like a magician
such a great tip B-Roll. can't wait to try it!
happy 200k subs!!
I like using trailer hooks but whenever I try using one on spinnerbaits I find the trailer hook interfering with the action of the blade
Exactly
Me to
I paint my Colorado blades Orange. You didnt put a stinger hook on your spinnerbait. I use a white fluke. Dye the last quarter of the fluke. CHARTREUSE Spike it Garlic. Even use the Fluke as a trailer on my Chatterbaits. Same color combo on the Chatterbait. Shawn.
name change yessssss!!!!!!!!
I know this might be a dumb question but could u use a spinner bait after the spawn
Yes!
Hey j0j0barz33 is it possible that you upload the livestream I wasn't able to watch it and was wondering what was talked about???
what other tackles r good
what kind of know do you tie to spinnerbaits?
where did you get the replacement skirt and rattle?
How many cast do you use before you put on the scent again
Hey man thanks for recommending all terrain skirts. I got some of their rubber skirts and they smell like gas!?!? Is this because I got the old school rubber? Have you experienced this? If so do you do anything about it? Thanks again
I've always thought of a spinnerbait as something of a reaction strike bite, but i guess its worth a try
You forgot to mention a trailer hook to increase hook ups
No he didn't. Read the title. Nothing about a trailer hook is "strange"
carlilez Everyone knows trailer hooks are a must have for a spinner. I've watched watched bass eat shad and usually they go for the tail.
carlilez and trailers
A bass "hears" in two ways. One is it's inner ear, the other way is it's lateral line, and it "hears" or picks up the vibration from the rotating blades. Just a lower frequency "sound". Still if it mod works Kewel. But to say that a spinner bait has no sound.. hmmmm...
It just adds a little more appeal to the bait.
Thank you. I only read the comments to see who would correct him! Well done
Obviously I’m late to the party on this but out of curiosity wouldn’t you be able to come to the conclusion that having the fish head the spinner bait with both it’s lateral line and it’s inner ear (from the rattle add on) be more effective?
DUDE! YOU ARE A F*****G FISHING GURU..FOR REALS.
What about trailer hooks?
That's not a strange modification
neither is scenting a lure, or changing the color, or a rattle...
+Levi Burns Not a lot of anglers think do these modifications to a spinner bait. That's why called them "strange".
Any more companies make a skirt with the rattle? The page you linked does not work.
Do you ever use trailers or do you prefer none?
What size rattle do i use with it?
What rods do you recommend
Have my doubts about the rattle in the skirt creating any more sound than the blades do. Had a friend pull a spinner through the pool while I had my head under water and that blade makes a fair amount of noise.

Grate lesson! Thank you
Njord Fishing Channel Glad you liked it, thanks!

modified or not...I still cant catch anything :(
Rick Rabies keep chuckin
Rick Rabies Time of year-water temp is important for using spinners. Try throwing em along rocky shorelines mid April through May.
RigoRocks23 I can't seem to catch either...I have a spinner bait I keep using at ponds and canals I live in wpb Florida and I go at different times of the day and do different retrievals speeds ... what am I doing wrong? only time I caught was with a live bait... ugh so frustrating !!! can u give me sum tips??
jenny cunefare You're fishing in freshwater right? I assume you're trying to catch largemouth bass and such?
jenny cunefare Omg I wish I could just go with you 😬
I think with your voice you should go into the broadcasting field.Good video
Do you ever use a soft plastic bait on your spinners?
What happened to the live stream video??
What's the problem with pressured water?
Cool tips 😎
This may be one of his better videos!!!
when is a green and yellow bright spinnerbait good for in Fl
Do u fish tournaments?
I would recommend putting the rattle on the bottom side of the hook instead of in the hook gap.
Maybe you should bring back these tip videos. The transition from winter to spring is coming up. Post spawn is also around the corner. New anglers starting to watch and may need a little help.
K.F.N.S!!
great info thanks
Get some JB's fish sauce! Give it a try and a review. You will like it! And works well.
sweet video
Can u just put the scent all over like in the skirt too?
Trailer hook, or no trailer hook?
also you can add a trailer and that also makes a huge difference
I alway tip mine with a twintailed grub I usually use a grub same colour as skirt ,my biggest pike on a lure in the uk is 16 pound on a spinnerbaits , yellow braids and skirt , yellow twintailed grub .

Good video
I caught a half dollar sized bluegill on a 1/2 oz Spinnerbait
How is that possible 😂
wat do u.mean by pressure lake
Evan Herrera many fishermen
To everyone who is talking about trailer hooks: You should always have a trailer hook on no matter what.
If your adding a garlic scent anyway, why not just use the garlic scented dye?
i think that dye is really messy
You should try coloring the wire with a sharpie
How bout some actual footage of catching fish with these tips
how many rattles do you lose?
You and Noah should fish sometime
The skirting has more surface area in contact with the water than the large willow blade, Why wouldn't you scent it their instead?
Dang boi the old Jon b
They used to have spinnerbaits, on the market, with rattles on them back in the day.
You didn't address the eye where you tie are use a snap swivel. To keep your line or swivel from moving up and down your spinner bait fowling it up when you cast. thank you for the vid your great
You can also Trim the skirk
thanks
Woah, your water bottle........ Cool!
Pimp my spinnerbait
*cracks open a cold one* take it away John B!
add a trailer and a stinger hook and that will be killer
If you want to catch catfish with a spinnerbait use a hot dog as a trailer
Jon, why do you sound so Texas in this video?
you tried so hard to sound professional. you were like this blade is gonna be in the water colum so you should put scent on it. lol but was funny b it good video
You should've said something about a trailer.
Are you and lakeforkguy the same people
What kinda stupid are you ?
Holden Young the special kind lol
would u get together and fish Jon b
Sorry Bud.; Fish don't have ears. They "hear" with their lateral line. Those blades thumping put out sound the fish can pick up on.
+Terry L Actually! Many fish posses what's known as otoliths which are essentially "earstones." These earstones allow the fish to hear, the lateral line is used to pick up vibration in the water caused by turbulence, the fish hears through its otoliths and feels through the lateral line.
+Bad Poncho Outdoors yep
No trailer hook
Could I make my own garlic paste out of garlic chunks and just heat em up and smash em
deep southern accent? now jon b.
just put a trailer hook and a trailer and your ready to go
lmao what did he say at 1:01??
Like my friend
the og shirt
U think u could donate a baitcaster to a fisherman in need
Hey
