Here are a few good hints for Goodwill shopping: Take AA and AAA batteries for testing something (like toys), light bulbs (in cushioned boxes) to test lamps, and a black light (to check if something glows (green uranium). And take a battery backup for your cell phone.
That is probably a black bog cat carving from Ireland. "Ireland's bogland was once home to the much-sought-after black bog cat, which was said to roam the vast bogland near the shores of Lough Neagh. It was a larger-than-usual cat and lived on insects and small animals, and was said to bring luck and great wealth and happiness to those whose path it crossed. Similar stories are told about a large black cat seen in the bog lands in midland Ireland that, with its intelligent cunningness, always evaded capture."
That little cedar box you picked up is a collectible. In the 1950s, Lane Cedar Chest gave them to graduating senior girls as a bid to get them to buy the full size model as a "hope" chest.
Found Limoges gold rimmed plates, bowls, etc today. Plus Czech weeping gold-signed! I was so excited and more excited when I looked up comps. I know I’ve thanked you before, but I really appreciate your reselling lessons and all that you share. Yes, we can’t find what we don’t know about! Exactly! We could walk right by something that would make the trip worthwhile-UNLESS WE KNOW ABOUT MANY THINGS! 😊
I love your video! Thank you for your comment about teachers not wanting a teacher mug! After just retiring after 30 years of teaching, there’s not a mug in the world that I didn’t get with apples, pencils, A+ teacher, blackboards, etc. We don’t want them, that’s why they’re at the thrift store! You’re spot on with your comment!
At 31:38 there was what looked like a skull mug or glass. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I don't dismiss plastics. My first eBay sale was a Dinex camping mug set. Bought the set for .59 and sold for 25.00 plus shipping.
FYI: The Christmas tray was a Spode! Spode items have a Christmas tree with a Santa on top of the tree. They are popular and desirable items. They’re generally not high dollar items, but do sell.
If I see a picture (art )with archival (UV) glass, I'll start to look closely at it. It's expensive glass and typically people only pay for it for expensive prints. It's easy to spot-- if you see it from the side, it looks like it has a white film on it, from the front, if you look closely, you'll see a pattern in the glass.
at 5:08 timestamp you were looking at Pottery Barn Chinese lanterns. With the number of them likely deserved a second look. Even the clear box lid was sitting very close by.
Lots of great pointers on here. Just wanted to say the Gullah baskets are all hand woven (Gullah island, SC) Major art form in that area. Not just baskets & very expensive.
In metal I always scour for the holders for MCM glass sets that I have. I also look for candle stick pairs, and door knobs (if they have screws with them), and sometimes signs if they are cute.
I am not afraid to ship anything. Actually, its like a challenge! I shipped a 18" blown glass vase to Porta Rico thru USPS and it made it there in one piece! I used the USPS Fragile Handling that cost $10. All i did was put it in a good box and filled it with Packing Peanuts and sent it on its way! The Fragile sticker has the driver to handle the package by hand and it made it there with no problem. It was a signed blown glass art vase. I cant remember the artist now but it made it! I was happy!
When I find something that doesn't have a price tag on it at Goodwill, I ask someone at the checkout to price it and hold it for me as I finish my shopping - they will usually do it for me, or they track me down in the store to give it back to me. Some thrift stores won't put a price on it that day. Maxfield Parrish is one of my favorite artists.
Oy! Turquoise blue Ikea Lykta lamps go for $55-65 all day long! Lime green ones are spendy as well! Have found and sold several over the past couple years
Always comp Ikea Lamps...some of those can bring good money. That one could have brought $75-$85. A lot of ikea stuff you might see, comp it! There's a lot out there that is highly sought after that you can't get anymore.
Anyone else seeing an increase in brass items? Beginning to see more nice brass pieces. Smalls, trays, and lower quality candle sticks. I keep a small magnet w/ me. Brass is not magnetic, BUT neither is pot or white metal which plates well and often was brass plated. Older items...check the worn or friction areas of the piece where the plating is worn. It will show silver or dull grey.
@5:51 I love the wall shelf bracket with the two ornate sconces attached. There are a million places that could go and who doesn't need more space to put things!? Unless its made of resin and I would happily trash it!
I'm always fascinated by the fact that in the US you all seem to decorate for things like Easter and Autumn, Spring etc. We dont really do that in the UK. Christmas yes, and more recently, halloween is coming up, but the rest? I wonder if it is because you maybe have more space to keep decor packed away? Nobody I know puts out different ornaments etc through the year
Agree. The USA public holidays are marked as a Holiday. Time to stop and reflect and express both yourself and your house/ yard. Then Annual Leave from work is a Vacation and is sadly much shorter than UK AU NZ. I have appreciated this as I have travelled over the years to the US. Houses ( not all) have attics or basements to store. Wirh regards Tassie Joy
That glass teapot you put back was incomplete, if I am correct. I believe it used to have a glass infuser that fit down its center. Probably best you left it.
I think you're located south of my East Texas location. I have relatives in the Freeport-Angleton area that get some of the most amazing stuff at garage sales. I've always been envious. 😊
I have been looking for those trivets that you mentioned. Love watching your videos and helps me to see what else to look for. I don’t like large items to ship. Good money but shipping scares me. Just don’t want to spend more than I ask for. Maybe need to just try it Thanks
If you have successfully shipped breakables ...you can ship bulky. Depending on the selling platform and shipping method you are using ....your package is insured. So if your concerned about damage at least you have some comfort knowing you wont be at a complete loss. Its not like your trying to ship a refrigerator or dinning set. You'll do just fine
Hi, I love your videos right now I just got out of the Goodwill and I was so happy because I was working out of town and most Goodwill are closed on Sunday except for this one it opened and as I was going to the Goodwill I had your video on or your RUclips channel on and it just helped to motivate me and I bought one cup for $.25. I did see others but they weren’t really popular cups although they were cheap, the only one I got was a Starbucks one and I can keep that one and also try to sell it because it wasn’t in such a good shape but I’m thinking it might be a collectible. It might be something someone’s looking for.
Not sure I could have left that iridescent, waterfall picture , with the plastic frame ❗️ I enjoy your videos and learn a lot , especially the jewelry videos
I had a box like that with a frame on top also have broken piece on the back but anyway. Jewelry box you're looking at those Rings earrings and all that I had that for my sister I given that to her anyway then I guess I might try to sell it
I think you do a great job. It would really help me as a small seller if you showed us where to find the markings on the glassware and what they look like. For example, I have a butterfly porcelain vase signed with 2 letters. I don't know if it's junk or not, my neighbor's son gave it to me lmao. Also a Tobacco Leaf hand painted box with a Chinese stamp on the bottom. I just can't identify these types of things. And I'm pretty sure google Lense hates me.... I need help lollll 🤣
Buy This, Not That: Illuminated Ceramic Houses. For a couple of months, every time I came across an illuminated ceramic house/shop/village and looked it up, the solds looked great. As a result, I started to think that these were a can’t-miss BOLO item. Yesterday, I found four really nice illuminated Christmas houses for $8-10/each and I was SO excited. Fortunately, I looked them up before buying them and they were all duds.
The boy kissing the girl print is in every thrift store, sold at Homco Home parties. There is a huge glut of that cheap junk out there. One clue that something isn't worth much if anything is when you see it, in every thrift store you walk into. Maxfield Parrish is an excellent artist, lots of deep blue in his stained glass and paintings. I would buy it all if I ever saw it in a thrift store, very popular artist.
where do you order your shipping coffee mug boxes? My issues is shipping supplies and that what often is a factor for my reselling, I want to ship affordable for myself and buyer but also adequate and proper. Thank you. love your videos :)
My shipping nightmare would be multiple plates or platters. For some reason large plush put me off but I sold one the other day, not huge, 18", It went into a large poly mailer so easily and I pushed the air out before sealing it. Now I will stress as it goes thru GSP on to the UK. Geez, big, bulky and GSP in one sale! I hear they sometimes re-pack the item before sending it on its way, what a waste of a good poly mailer!
I specialize in glass, oil lamps and vintage electric lamps. BE very PICKY. I bought a slag glass lampshade for 10.00 and sold it for 620.00. I bought two old brass wall sconces for 25.00, sold that set for 870.00. Watch for cloth covered wires to determine age, but some have already been rewired. Big money in vintage lighting. You left behind two Pier 1 Tuscan salad plates, no longer made, 10.00 each on average. Also, from Pier 1 and selling even higher is the Ming pattern in cobalt blue and white, a cereal bowl or dinner plate can fetch 25.00. Learn the basic silver marks, and wear a jeweler's loop with light around your neck. I just found 300.00 in Gorham Sterling Silver trays at a thrift store, I paid 399 for the set of 13.. Also found a Baccarat crystal figure for 3.99, value is 50.00 or more.
I saw a pottery candle stick or chamberstick that I thought you might look at. You could have just missed it! Pottery items can sell very well. Just wanted to mention that, for whatever it’s worth:):)
Lamps can be tricky because of the shades and hardware that go with them. If they are missing the harps, finials, shades, and any of the parts, keep that in mind. It's not always easy to find the right-sized harp for a lamp that will fit a specific shade. In particular...I personally HAVE to have the lamp and the shade next to each other to make sure the proportions fit and they go well together. Watch out for the ring-type lamp shade holder because the shade has to be exactly the right size to sit on the top of the frame. BTW - I loved the wooden sort of hour-glass shaped lamp with the hob-nail look next to the one you picked up. I think it would be perfect for a man's desk or an older son's room to add some masculinity.
When I first saw your videos I wasn’t being to picky with mugs I have a ton of them that I still need to take pictures of and put up lol I just haven’t gotten to it but right now I have my phone full of pictures that I took so I really need to put things up so that people can start seeing them and buying them otherwise nothings going to sell it’s just that this business for me is very time consuming. I feel like I’m so slow with everything it’s like I need to have more practice.
I’ll ship big all day long, but I hate shipping multiple glass items. I’ll ship something single like a coffee mug, but I don’t want to do a set of 6 glasses.
I noticed there was a college branded mug that I would have grabbed. There was an Amish crock looking mug I bet would have gone. You missed a beerstien (spelling earlier I thoughr was super cool.)
i don't know how many times i'll see something on youtube, read about something or just recently had a conversation about something and i run across it out in the wild to snatch up. sure i watch my fave youtubers because i enjoy them but i have over a hundred subscriptions mainly to learn. never discount anything because you'll probably never find it, it might be the next thing you'll see.
Hi I am in Tyler Texas and apparently watch the same group of resellers you do. Been selling all my life but realized when I started getting rid of more personal items I had great taste and vintage. So my things are more my own items lol. Time to downsize and roll it out. What I buy I am comfortable in getting stuck with. I am uncomfortable outside my personal taste. Am I wrong? I will say my taste is vast but still what some pick up I just don’t see it nor do I want it stacking up. Brenda
I might have picked up that framed old photo of the child. Some people love old photos like that. I felt badly that he ended up at a thrift store 😢 Also the wooden box with the checkerboard games might have been worth something?
You passed by a red Milk For Santa mug - it is made by Waechtersbach, and their mugs can do well. Normally, you would do better with a set of them, but a Milk For Santa mug would be a single mug that might sell.

@@rickg7792 on some items I find the sold information and some items I don't. Does that mean none has been sold. Thank you for answering my other question.

I’m jealous of your empty stores with full shelves. ❤️👋
I’m loving your new videos “thrift this not that”. Its extremely helpful in growing a resellers average sell price. Thanks for your hard work.

In wood section, I look for anything hand carved and boho. Carved Indian pieces like you looked at.

The bowl set that you looked at and said they were dragonflies.....looked like swimming sperm to me.....LOL
I thought the same thing! 🤪. So glad I’m not the only one! 😂
Me three! Lol
Yep! 😆
Me also!
at 5:08 timestamp you were looking at Pottery Barn Chinese lanterns. With the number of them likely deserved a second look. Even the clear box lid was sitting very close by.
Hi, that bog cat plaque looked to me there like was a Jaguar in the middle with stylized Mayan or Aztec glyphs surrounding it.
Yes, I think that's what it is.
Lots of great pointers on here. Just wanted to say the Gullah baskets are all hand woven (Gullah island, SC) Major art form in that area. Not just baskets & very expensive.
Some of those ikea lamps sell for around 60 dollars

Oy! Turquoise blue Ikea Lykta lamps go for $55-65 all day long! Lime green ones are spendy as well! Have found and sold several over the past couple years
Yikes! Learned something new!
That Christmas tray at 21:55 looked like Spode. Anything Spode does really well for me.
Always comp Ikea Lamps...some of those can bring good money. That one could have brought $75-$85. A lot of ikea stuff you might see, comp it! There's a lot out there that is highly sought after that you can't get anymore.
Love love the Margaret show
I sold a sweet grass basket that was signed on the bottom for $100
The little blue striped cups at 34.25 look like sake cups. Not 100 percent sure but could be.
Is brass decor coming back in style? Thank you!
Don’t dismiss the IKEA items. They discontinue things and people go looking for replacements on eBay. I’ve sold dishes and linens for good money.
Oooohhh and the Tabasco mug on the top or second shelf around 31:00 or so! Tabasco stuff goes fast for me. I can sell the pants off that stuff.

At 21:50 i needed those hexagon boxes for my daughters bee themed baby shower- looked everywhere for them..lol
For baskets and placemats etc, look for Longaberger.
Just picked up sweet grass basket a couple days ago for 1.99 fixing to list it .
8:25 there’s a football
Scentsy warmer. Complete it brings around $30
That glass teapot you put back was incomplete, if I am correct. I believe it used to have a glass infuser that fit down its center. Probably best you left it.
Let me take this moment to tell you (because I keep forgetting to) that your intro is absolutely adorable!
You are so kind
I think you're located south of my East Texas location. I have relatives in the Freeport-Angleton area that get some of the most amazing stuff at garage sales. I've always been envious. 😊
Love nurse flipper too she’s going to do a live Sale soon 💝 You both are awesome 👏 I’ve learned so much from y’all. Xoxoxo

I saw the glass pumpkins pretty popular 😊

One of those smaller pictures you looked at struck me as maybe a numbered print but you didn't look at the back.
The picture of the little boy kissing the girl is Home Interiors. I have that one. Maxfield Parrish is one of my fav artists.
Not sure I could have left that iridescent, waterfall picture , with the plastic frame ❗️ I enjoy your videos and learn a lot , especially the jewelry videos
Found 6 Coca Cola glasses with Jack in the Box on them. Would you recommend selling them separately, in pairs or as a whole? 🤔
I had a box like that with a frame on top also have broken piece on the back but anyway. Jewelry box you're looking at those Rings earrings and all that I had that for my sister I given that to her anyway then I guess I might try to sell it
I live in South Carolina and those Gullah Sweet Grass Baskets hand made by Gullah people sell for a few hundred dollars new

Loved this video! Thanks for all the tips and for great quality content. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You missed a ginger jar on lower rack at end of lam section.
yes, the dogs playing pool pictures sell quite a bit
where do you order your shipping coffee mug boxes? My issues is shipping supplies and that what often is a factor for my reselling, I want to ship affordable for myself and buyer but also adequate and proper. Thank you. love your videos :)

I liked the spirits skull mug if glass 31:30+
What was the signature on the big eyed girl print?
I noticed the stranger the item the faster it sells and for crazy prices!
What sizes of shipping boxes and packing materials should i buy before listing items?
In the wood section I’m always looking for Dansk
I saw a pottery candle stick or chamberstick that I thought you might look at. You could have just missed it! Pottery items can sell very well. Just wanted to mention that, for whatever it’s worth:):)
The Twas the Birthday of a King is a line from a beautiful Christmas song. Google it. I love it. No idea about the item itself.
I bet I had a crystal vase that I bought at the good will and it broke yesterday !!! I was so sad 😢
KleanKanteen is from my hometown Chico, CA :D
With vintage lamps, the finials are usually missing. I tie my hands down and leave them behind.

I think those house teapots can be good :)
Why didn’t you pick up the Batman framed print?
The only purchases I make in lamps are night lights preferably vintage night lights they seem to do well
I’ll ship big all day long, but I hate shipping multiple glass items. I’ll ship something single like a coffee mug, but I don’t want to do a set of 6 glasses.
That Gotham white China cup. Pearl
Thank you!
How do you know if the paintings / picture are original and not fakes.. That is what I worry about with framed items
Usually when I find something without a price, the checkers will practically give it to me. I'm ok with that. 😉
Great video! You are doing an awesome job!
I need to purchase your Lochness Monster Lives glass. Please let me know what outlet I could go to in order to buy it. Thank you.
I noticed there was a college branded mug that I would have grabbed. There was an Amish crock looking mug I bet would have gone. You missed a beerstien (spelling earlier I thoughr was super cool.)
at 26:34 a Starbucks mug got away. I could see which one it was, but know you would have wanted to check it.
On that carving, it looks like a squirrel to me.
i don't know how many times i'll see something on youtube, read about something or just recently had a conversation about something and i run across it out in the wild to snatch up. sure i watch my fave youtubers because i enjoy them but i have over a hundred subscriptions mainly to learn.
never discount anything because you'll probably never find it, it might be the next thing you'll see.
Do you ever buy the art for the frame? Meaning not so good art but maybe you can sell it for the frame? Ho0 5hat makes sense.
Hi I am in Tyler Texas and apparently watch the same group of resellers you do. Been selling all my life but realized when I started getting rid of more personal items I had great taste and vintage. Also the wooden box with the checkerboard games might have been worth something?
At the 16:05 mark the Big eyed girl framed picture looked possibly like a Margaret Keane. But I could be mistaken. Many people copied her style.
I’m still working on how I like to ship board games.
If that plaque came from Ireland that it probably was the bog artist.
You passed by a red Milk For Santa mug - it is made by Waechtersbach, and their mugs can do well. Normally, you would do better with a set of them, but a Milk For Santa mug would be a single mug that might sell.
Hey Margaret 🤗🤗
4:05 Was that a Faberge Egg?? I hear those are very priceless???
You are so funny! Thanks for your fun and informative videos! :-)
