I remember flying on this plane in 2017. I was flying to see my mother who I had not seen in 27 years. (Long story) i remember that flight because it brought me to a time and a place I would remember for the rest if my life. Nor will I ever forget the sound of that beautiful engine.
@@DJSI3434 There's still the 717 left at least. The last McDonnell Douglas rear mounted engine experience. However, at least we have the A320 still to listen to the sounds of the IAE V2500
LoveJT8D I just flew on an A320 four days ago and it had the same engine, boy the amount of thrust deducted on our flight my older sister thought the engines failed and I just broke out laughing
@@RefrigeratedWaffles2 Oh man, as a nervous flyer most of my childhood/young adult years, the reduction in thrust after takeoff always gave me sweaty palms. The airport you were departing from must've had some strict noise abatement rules in the area.
These engines sound exactly (or pretty close) to engines found on A320 and A321 aircraft, like when i flew on NWA and US Airways A320 jets. Same also for an A321 (US Airways) flown a couple of years ago. MD90's are no longer made, correct? I'll miss the old workhorse DC-9s that were flown by NWA / Delta, albeit they were inefficient on fuel consumption.
+New Neo Your ears are correct. The engines on the MD-90 are of the same family for many of the Airbus A320's. The MD-90 uses the IAE 2525 while the A320 uses the IAE 2500. Although, keep in mind that the A320 family does have the option of using CFM-56's as well. You are correct; the MD-90's are no longer made.
+LoveJT8D Thanks for the reply. The 717 is also no longer made which replaced the MD80, MD 90, right ?Perhaps Boeing should reconsider a new 717 plane if market will support it. Engines are also the same or similar to the A319 too, correct? I've flown on A319, 320, 321, and B757 jets. B757 best of the lot, IMHO. Hopefully, Boeing can develop better, more competitive jetliners to compete w/ Airbus Ind. Great videos.
Excellent video!!! Very good with Apple product headphones, Video is well cut to, some of these videos prove that the photographer was impatient, yours does not.
I believe the Boeing 717 was the last of the MD family to be produced. The 717 was originally designated "MD-95" however was changed after McDonnell Douglas merged with Boeing.
pipeJIME924 That sound between the :42 - :52 may have been the APU supplying bleed air to start the engines but I'm not 100% sure. Other than that, most of the spooling up around that same time mark seemed relatively normal as the engines came online. Nothing like the sound of jet engines next to your ear :)
Why's there some giant fuel truck pulling up next to the aircraft at Columbus? Don't they have fuel points in the tarmac? Imagine the fire caused from an accident with a fuel tanker.
I assumed that loud rush of noise in the beginning was APU related. Do you suspect there was a problem or were they bleeding air to start the second engine?
+LoveJT8D who knows. the cockpit crew may have simply decided to go ahead and crank both motors with the "huffer" connected b4 pushback. great vid...keep em comin'!
Was cool to hear the pilot bump up the throttle a bit once airborne. With noise restrictions in the SoCal area it is usually the opposite. Lay on the throttle during the takeoff roll then cut way back once airborne.
Honestly, I’m glad that Delta is phasing out the MDs. They are definitely a cool platform, but they are getting to be old, and there are far more comfortable planes out there. To each his own, though.

Just hearing the engine hum of the Md-90... it gets me emotional.
For the first time last month I got to fly on an MD-90. One of my best flight experiences I've had!
***** Glad you enjoyed your flight! Definitely one of the more unique passenger jets flying around :)
Wow that is SWEET! Hopefully the chance I fly an MD-90 I'm gonna sit at that exact spot! Definitely going in my favorites!
Me to
long live the Douglas Twinjet
I'm sad it's rare :(
AMAZING Views!
Just booked a flight on Delta's MD90 and 757-300 :D Looking forward to this view!
Awesome! Enjoy your flights. That 753 is a beast.
WOW do I love this plane ..Rear engines make wings so clean,,I just love this plane
gacj2010 Agreed! The aesthetics of this plane are awesome.
At 2:01, the IAE v2500 engines for the MD-90 kind of sound like the RB211-535 on the 757
Yeah they really do have that classic low-end growl.
MD-90 is really a good plane. Sad to see it quit the market earlier as it did not match the Boeing product line.
Shuo Liu Yeah it's a shame. I absolutely love the aesthetics of this aircraft. It always adds some variety in the sea of wing mounted engines.
I'm planning to fly on one before the retirements in 2022
@@nolantherailfan5048 I hope you succeeded where I failed.

I'm guessing they don't make these anymore good night
Nice video! It always amazes me how fast the flaps come out on both the MD-80 and the MD-90

8:15 i like the sound of the engine winding down
MagneticDelta 808 It does sound cool. Sort of a growl to it.
I was on the same plane! When I was in 6th grade I went to Florida and my second connection was on N944DN! Love them MD-90's, great planes!
+Jack Finn Awesome!
Jack Finn I went on N944DL in November to Florida! It was a McDonnell Dougles MD-88/90! I've never been on a MD-90 before.
Cool engine start sound! 0:51
AeroPlane It’s nice to hear it at ear level :)
Woah! The MD-90’s engine roar sounds exactly the same as a A320 roar engine
The MD-90 uses the IAE V2500, which can also be used on the entire A320 family
It was an A320 with rear engine

Capt_CJ Whew! Glad it came back 😆

What a great fuselage mounted engine plane!!!!! I wander if it still flys so i can fly in one?
I love the MD-90 & its engines!!!
Same! I like the engines sitting at ear level :)
Great video, hearing the sound of those engines on an MD is awkward but still cool!
Definitely a unique sound for this aircraft family. No other passenger airliner puts the IAE 2500 right at ear level.
If not for the Boeing 727 the md 80 wouldn't exist. Go JT8D!!!
george washington Wish there were more 727s around. My favorite airliner.

THAT IAE SOUND!!

love the sound and the looks of the mds great takeoff cruise and landing! was the md90 the last version of these type jets? thanks rob

Love the condensation cone in the engine! 2:10-2:30

I love the MD planes as well. I wish they would bring back the Boeing 727.

That sounds like EXACTLY the cfm-6b though

Frankie L. I believe this was runway 8R at ATL
the engine moving at a fast speed looks like a drill
Love this format of video
mxthunder2 Glad you liked it!
They are still using these im surprised. Then again for them keeping them in service is justified.
You know what I like man! ~Tyler
Glad you liked it. Can't beat the mainline T-tails.
I don't know, a 737-800 was my ride this summer. The engine spool up is hard to beat
The 757, A320, MD-90 and many other planes can beat the spool up of a 737. That's just my opinion though.
Just doesn't get any better !!
I love the startup engine noices!
I’m curious why they started Engine 2 before pushback?
Not quite sure. Might be because there was crew / equipment on the engine 1 side, so decided to start 2 first. Just a guess though.
Why's there some giant fuel truck pulling up next to the aircraft at Columbus? Don't they have fuel points in the tarmac? Imagine the fire caused from an accident with a fuel tanker.
I would think CMH has fuel points at least at some of the gates. More often than not, I would see those fuel trucks driving around.
Umm just want to say... should it be 26E? (cuz I am choosing a seat for the engine view) Your video helps me a lot :D Good job!
Nah man 36E ^^
Rows 26 and 27 are my favourites!!!
IAE V2500 🔊😍
Dang that was a cool airstart at the beginning
Yeah, you don't see that as much these days. Makes flights a little more interesting :)
@@LoveJT8D yeah I'm always working airstarts on British airways with the 747. That one is insane!
that engine looks like a IAE V2500 turbofan. otherwise a JT8D would have those bars in front of the main fan
Derek Wall Spot on 🙂
Those "bars" are inlet guide vanes and they are always there in low-bypass turbofans and turbojets
Awesome video and sound

Those Reversers Though....
Geoff Hall Yeah, the pilots really let those reversers roar. Was pretty awesome.
Why did delta have to retire the maddog

com'on DL, fix that APU!
I assumed that loud rush of noise in the beginning was APU related. Do you suspect there was a problem or were they bleeding air to start the second engine?
The rush of air was engine 1, but it's unclear whether it was a crossbleed or not. It's very common for them to crossbleed MD-90s though.

It's engine is noisy because of the compressor.
V200 on 320, sure beats md80 by today's standards
