Shinji D I’ve been looking for an example of extreme frame drops on RUclips but haven’t found a single one. I’m considering if I should get Slim or Pro for FF7 Remake...
Why are people constantly blaming the PS4 Pro/Xbox One instead of the game developer? On both platforms you have examples of beautifully looking games that have a rock-solid performance. It cannot be the fault of 300-400€ hardware when developers fail to release optimised and smooth running games. Just think of Dishonoured 2 back when it was released for PC. It was totally unoptimised and had frame-rate issues even on high end pc's! No one thought of blaming the 1500€ hardware for the performance, so why not apply the same rule to consoles, too? If games like Just Cause 3 have terrible performance on consoles, developers simply have been too ambitious with the project to run on relatively low console hardware and should downgrade graphics in order to achieve a playable, consistent performance.
Anton Tirol Because blaming console hardware for bad performance and not blaming €1500 PC performance when its shit on PC, doesn't fit the PC elitists narrative.
That's because most of these so called gamers would rather focus their rage and angr at each other than focus it where it belongs. It's just so much easier to do name calling and circle jerking in comments sections or some cases with the pc community, let's have the modders patch it vs putting a actually cause to action. Then I hear console player say uh I'll just buy it used or pc players say uh I'll just pirate the game. Yet what they exactly fail to realise is that they've still waste precious time on a game that they could of been better spent on something much more worth the while. Now just imagine what would happen if both parts would actually unite and boycott these companies that implyed back business practices? Imagine the really message they really could send.
It was never going to be stable 60fps mate, ps4pro cpu is jaguar mobile unit same like og ps4/xbone, and despite its many advantages( cheap to make, small, very energy efficent, about 10tdp compared to 95tdp of i5/i7 overclockable intel chips, easy to program to) it has one major flaw- its slow as FUCK ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
junaidesse There's articles of the director showing interest. He wants it running with PC features like making your own quests mod support and what not. (Basically the usual freedom) A year's work is an idea of an time frame he gave us. Could take longer.
You know it is coming out. FF VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2,XI, XII (already has a release date), XIII, XIII-2, XIII LR, and XIV all came out for PC. It is just a matter of time
On the contrary, a console should have LESS frame-pacing issues because you know the exact bottlenecks of every console. Its usually PC games that end up with frame-pacing issues due to the hugely variable configurations. If a console has issues, its piss poor developers or, most often, the publishers rushing a game to market that isn't ready.
Alex Atkin I'd say it's definitely rushing the game out that caused the frame pacing issues. Unfinished parts of the game were cut out to be sold as the Episode DLCs, the entire majority of maps of Insomnia, Tenebrae and Gralea were locked out because they couldn't be finished on time, the Infernian was removed as a summon, the selectable 5th party members like Aranea, Cor and Iris had to be scrapped (it really shows that Ignis is NOT cut out to use the spear at all his specialty is daggers, but if you've played the game you'll know who was actually supposed to have the spear moves) and the biggest one out of the myriad of other unfinished content: the storytelling was garbage with huge pacing issues and narrative problems, even if it was an excellent plot. Hopefully Square Enix provides most of the missing content with free patches instead of shelving the cut stuff and never implementing it into the game or charging us for it with the Season Pass crap.
Interesting how it had so much trouble when it came out on PS4 Pro. I can tell you that on PS5, FFXV offers a pretty much rocksteady 60fps experience in Lite mode, as far as I can tell. Buttery smooth.
I'm actually loving this higher (albeit variable) framerate. The blur when panning the camera at 30fps used to strain my eyes a bit, but now it's a lot smoother. It's not perfect but I personally prefer this over the old 30fps lite option. But SE really should have just added this as a 3rd option instead of replacing the original one.
he got it right tho :D Dunno why u bashing his pretty much on point guess. Only thing he missed is they actually removed the option to play frame-locked in the PS4 Pro, which leads to the conclusion: this game now plays better on standard PS4's/XBO than in a Pro.
I have a ps4 pro and high end gaming PC and I'm glad I do cause in situations like this I would just play it on my PC for better performance and not be stuck and praying for a patch to make things better. But at the same time I have to pray my PC port is not trash and it run smoothly at the same time so I guess it's good to have both options man.
I played lite mode last night for about two hours and thought it felt pretty damn smooth. I didn't think it was 60 fps, but figured it was running 40-50 fps as John confirmed in his analysis. I hope Square improve the texture filtering or give users the option to turn off blur inducing TAA.
Personally, I don't mind an uncapped frame-rate! I played Hitman on PS4 Pro and I never felt a noticeable performance issue, yet it felt more smooth and natural compared to the 30fps lock!
Locked 60 fps on lite mode is great but I hoped for a possibility of ps5 helping the frame pacing issue in high perfromance mode , but sadly no :/ you move the camera view just a bit and you can see on its movement that something is off the whole time in this mode
yup can't wait to play that. Serious question. Does it bother sony fanboys that xbox gamers get to play horizon zero dawn on their secondary consoles, as much as sony fanboys think it bothers xbox gamers when sony fanboys say they play xbox games on pc?
well think about it, the sony fanboys that say that are stuck solely on PS4 and just salty that they can't play ms exclusive. so they pretend they can.
NY Gamer - ?? That question doesn't make sense to me. What does Xbox or PC or fanboys of any platform has anything to do with my post? I don't get it...
I've noticed that framerate stops bothering me when it's above 40-45 fps so in my case I prefer uncapped to 30 locked. Still, although I have a PS4, I'm waiting on a PC release for this one. It may not come soon but I'm hoping it will come eventually.
Its not about resolution, since resolution is gpu power dependand, but mostly about cpu, and guess what? Jaguar mobile cpu sucks big time and is bottlenecking ps4pro once again.
Its 30 to 60 depending how cpu intensive particular game scenario is, it stay around 30-35fps durning fighting vs multiple enemies, running around in the cities and even riding chocobos ;X
This was a similar issue to KH 0.2 where the unlocked framerate just gave an overall inconsistent experience. I hope square at least gives us the option to play on a fixed 30 FPS or unlocked.
Can you guys make a video going into what frame-timeframe-pacing is? I never understand this when you guys start talking about it and I've been gaming for 25 years.
They briefly mention it in a couple of videos. It's how long a frame is on a screen before the next one is delivered. Games with bad frame-pacing and perform around 45 fps interval between having a frame on screen for 16ms (which is the time for 60fps) and 33ms (which is the time for 30fps), but can fluctuate more than that
Very few of the people I've talked to actually even notice inconsistent frame time, almost always preferring a higher frame rate. I believe even those at DF would not notice many of the frame time issues they seem to obsess over if they did not have a tool to detect it.
Square-Enix, *PLEASE FIX THIS.* I have waited for a _DECADE_ to play this game (i remember when it was called FF versus 13). Since I have a PS4 Pro I will not be buying a copy of the game until this issue is fixed. (even though I really want to.) Take all the time you need. I have waited 10 years. I can wait another year if that's what it takes to fix this issue, but *PLEASE DO NOT FORGET* to solve this problem for us Playstation 4 Pro owners. Thanks. P.S. if any Xbox fans are reading this comment feel free to gloat. your fandom has earned you the right to do so in this instance.
I think, if you can't deliver smooth 4k, you need to give player option to get stable 1080p with improved post proccesing. And if you can't give smooth 60FPS, you must give player option to enble 30FPS cut.
I've got no real issue with unlocked frame rates, unless its under 40fps since at that point I'll take the 30fps cap, but higher than 40, I'll want it uncapped simply because, despite the image appearing slightly more juddery, the controller response is greatly improved and the feel of a game is important to me.
My biggest reason why I pick 1080p60fps on a 4k TV, even if it only hits 45fps in most cases, is because of the increased controller response. If f I can choose an unlocked frame-rate and the games frame-rate can hit into the 40's, I usually go with that option. Another, at least for FFXV, is the fact that 1080p reduces the stupid and blurry AA post processing that plagues the 1800p option, nullifying any benefit you're suppose to see with a higher rez.
Other games doesn't have this bad framepacing. Xone doesn't have framepacing issues. Base PS4 has framepacing issues. Both have similar hardware so power argument is eliminated. What the pro does is just bump the resolution of the base PS4. Base PS4 version has issues so ofcourse Pro would also have it. Looks like it might be in the PS4 code. Again, other games play perfectly fine on the pro.
***** do you realize that at least 1500 dollars are required to play 4k with a pc? How is a 400 dollar system gonna play at 4k if the current one can't even reach 60 fps at 1080p resolution?
Scorpio will run it way better than the pro I can't wait til Scorpios release to finally shut you fake pony gamers down Why would Microsoft make the most powerful console ever to not be able to do what they say it does they will not make the same mistake twice Jeeeze be open minded and stop hating on and game system
There is now a steady mode (Performance). It's capped at 30fps, which is good for now imo. Think it's 1080p, But it looks sharper, But that might be placebo. It might be dynamic resolution, I don't know for sure. And in June a patch should come with locked 60fps @ 1080p.
This steady mode removes a lot of the visual frame pacing. Much smoother experience then I ever had with FFXV, Only a very small hickup when a large amount of assets needs to be streamed, Like a new province etc.. Now all is left is 60FPS. :)
+Yakuzi Yakuzi you are an absolute dumbass. You cant prove anything of what you say, all you posted is based on your personal opinion and feelings. PS4Pro is a slow machine that has a low end CPU thus creating a bottleneck on its GPU. This is why most PS4Pro games are and will be 30 fps and this is why even a budget PC like mine can pull 60 fps at games like Witcher 3 90% of the time whereas PS4Pro can only do 30 and dropping at certain areas. Shut up.
My Thoughts: While the new Lite mode does appear a bit juttery, at least it's somewhat constant in its frame rate and not fluctuating from 30FPS to 60FPS.
SeKToR Horizon and Nioh are games that make infinitely better use of the Pro's capabilities. There'll be more games along the way that'll be better optimised than this shitshow too.
rJUSTINr1995 Story is very inconsistent and weird pacing overall. They should have kept the chapter where the capital gets invaded and Noctis had to flee like it was still Versus XIII because that would have had a bigger emotional impact and in the XV it was replaced with a phone call. There is many other flaws in this game. We do know it was in development hell, switched directors etc.. but still. In retrospect its very flawed.
I noticed you guys mention the Xbox One and PS4 original examples w/ lesser frame pacing issues but only show gameplay outside the city (arguably the most demanding part of the game that you show in the video - only to be shown w/ the PS4 Pro version). Did you guys by chance happen to check their frame rates in those areas as well?
Neo's Gaming Construct No. The game being stuttery is an opinion, regardless of what any graphs show. Some people, like myself, don't see/feel the stutter that these graphs show. It is not a fact that the game runs "like ass."
icy1007 it's not opinion when technical analysis and actual data prove there are underlying technical issues that cause frame pacing problems. That's like saying "I'm not allergic to sunlight, despite the fact I've heard people are and it's a legitimate medical condition, because I don't personally suffer from it then I'm going to deny it exists entirely". The only debatable "opinion" here is how susceptible you might be to it. Again, stop confusing the two. Ignorant fuck.
Neo's Gaming Construct It is most definitely still an opinion that the game runs badly, regardless of frame pacing. If so much as one person thinks the game runs smoothly, then it is not a fact. It is a fact that it has uneven frame pacing, but that does not equate to the game running choppy as the definition of choppiness is not the same for every person.
Here I was looking forward to the raised lvl cap and the timed quests. Hopefully I don't get a headache from the unlocked frame rate when I play for a couple hours
I'm usually reasonably tolerant of frame pacing but on this game, I just couldn't handle it. I hadn't realised the Lite mode made such a difference or maybe I would have tried it, so extremely upset that now I don't have that option.
"if you want to play the game while looking down the entire time, you could conceivably enjoy at 60 frames a second" lol such burn to PS4 Pro....... not upgrading my ass to such overhyped trash with Fake 4k.
Arpit Johari The 4K output depends on the game, but it's not that the system can't run 4K. Most can't, but Skyrim and The Last of Us are two examples of games that run 4K natively.
TheAssassin421 I'm not defending the Pro's faults, but I did want to say that there are games out there that can output 4K. Shadow of Mordor runs the game mostly native even though most other games use an upscale technique to render at 4K. Supposedly Death Stranding and Gran Turismo Sport will run native but we'll have to wait and see.
4k is not the point here. The point is better image quality that makes the games look decent on a 4k display and near PC lvl quality on 1080p displays. Ps4 pro has that for almost all of its first party games. I dont care for what 3rd party are doing coz im a PC gamer. I get all my 3rd party games on PC and run them maxxed out with TXAA or whatever AA they support so that image quality boost means I dont want/need 4k. I have a ps4 pro for the games i cannot get on PC and those do support 4k or supersampled image quality on a 1080p display which i prefer. Any PC enthusiast knows 4k is no joke. GTX 1080s and Titan Xps can run 4k but not all games run at constant 60 fps at the highest settings. Considering console games dont even run multiplatform games at highest settings on either 1080p or 4k but instead at medium to high settings at 30 fps due to hardware limitations, that should give you an idea that 4k at high settings should be considered quite a feat for the pro and xbonex altogether. They are packing outdated hardware compared to an enthusiast's rig.
Personally im not too bothered by bad frame pacing but am always glad notice it when frames are delivered correctly! Coming from pc to ps4 recently I noticed quite a few games are prone to occasional frame rate issues... Gotta push the graphics harder these days I guess that the focus over frame rate...
Thanks for the video, John. Hey trolls, PC and consoles are made for different target audiences, so can we just leave it at that? Objectively speaking, PC is the most expensive and best tech out there for enthusiasts, but people might still prefer consoles for a variety of their own, perfectly valid reasons, like price, convenience, habit, being less of a geek, whatever... Lay off the insults and enjoy your damn games.
You say "being less of a geek", then proceed to say "lay off the insults". Besides, convenience sure isn't a reason to go with a console, since consoles get updates, installs if you buy a physical game, and a rare crash with a game that comes out (No Man's Sky), just like PC has, and you can get a $400 or slightly more expensive PC to outperform the PS4, which will save you money from the free multiplayer and can choose whether to put those savings back into the steeper Steam sales or Humble Bundle instead of being forced a selection of games for PS+
I feel for you, but fortunately for me I love unlocked frame rates and going on 82hrs in High mode, the frame pacing doesn't bother me at all in fact I don't notice it, although I know technically it is there.
Jerome Freeman no chance of that. the game runs checkerboard 1800p on ps4 pro. scropio might handle it on checkerboard 2160p at 30fps but not native 2160p
Jerome Freeman Lol unfortunately bro the one x version of this was only slightly better I have it. They need 2 scrap the game engine and redo it lol. But over all am loving my one x it's a cool console lime pro. XD
What point is there in getting a Scorpio if PC plays the same games and better? I’m not advocating PCMR because fuck those guys but still if your PC can run DOOM on ultra you don’t need an Xbox
So I run FFXV on a laptop GTX 1650 coupled with its i5-9300H. The game often runs around 45-55 fps, reaching 60 fps areas with less foliage. Seeing as Xbox One's version has adaptive vsync, I decided to apply it to my game using Nvidia Inspector. The game runs smoothly with minor tearing limited to the top of the screen. It simply feels amazing to play the game above 30 fps. Bottom line? This video gave me a new way to enjoy the game. Thanks Digital Foundry.
It's times like this I wish we could downgrade -- or choose(!) -- what patch version we want to play on. I thought I was going crazy when I booted the game today, my 4K tv with judder reduction previously working flawlessly on Lite mode was... stuttery! Thank you Digital Foundry for voicing our criticism!
after playing this and testing both I actually really like the lite mode with uncapped frame rate. it looks smoother and its not really jittery for me. but tjm
I'm of mixed mind on this. On one hand, it does make for some more enjoyable experiences (cutscenes mostly but not limited to) but then takes some of that enjoyment completely away at times. Especially in wide open areas where I had specifically hoped would have better fps for better fluidity when panning. But instead has done the opposite because now its not constant. Even a mid way frame cap (40 fps) may smooth this out to bearable levels. I know its not common to pick something other than 30 or 60 but it should be totally doable if they can lock 30 to a 60 hz display. Maybe an option to choose 30, 40 or uncapped.
Phew, I thought it is was just me that noticed lite mode was made worse. Thankfully I've already done everything in the game. Hopefully they come out with the three game mode fix, or just fix the frame pacing issue. Only time will tell at this point.
+DigitalFoundry I heard an update was coming out for this game on April 28 to address frame rate issues and along with other additions. Please Review it later. Thanks
What about playing the game instead of talking about disappointment and sadly this sadly that? You guys are caring waaay too much about tiny details that is almost a joke. We've come a long way since the inception of videogames, we're experiencing photo realistic graphics and you say with every single game, oh my god is unplayable because you just lost a frame and no one ever realized about it... Being a player in both pc and consoles, this is way too much. Even having a high-end pc wont fix some of the "issues" you mention. But I suppose is cool to criticize the effort of hundreds of programmers and just say is unplayable.
That's...the point of DF, though. By that logic, why critique anything ever? The issue here is that they removed a feature from the game. It played great before this patch, now it doesn't. We cannot uninstall the patch and no option was provided to restore original functionality. They did a good job with the game at launch - it ran very well using Lite mode. Now that option is gone.
EagerSnake You're preaching to the wrong crowd here. Attention to detail in game performance is what this channel's all about. If groups that ignore obvious blemishes in performance on otherwise decent games is more your speed then you're better off looking for another channel.
To you it might be less important, to us it's very, very important. Please note that for older generations (PS2, PS1) 60fps used to be the norm. We prefer smoothness above all else because stutter is absolutely a deal breaker, far from a small factor for us, it's they very window through which we experience the game. I can't play something that stutters, but I can play something that has reduced draw distance or shadow resolution etc.
John Linneman I get it, I just feel that sometimes is waaay too much. Is like almost anything all the time is unplayable when forgive me but I believe is the contrary. Here's the thing for me, I love the content of DF. I really do, but I just get the impression that lately everything is outdated or broken and everything must be played on pc when the difference is "minimum". And let me clarify that before I get crucified by the community. The investment I did on a pc wasn't just for games. I'm a photographer and I really need the horse power. Now, when I run the same console game on pc I'm not seeing that huge difference that DF always mention. I see an improvement, but not a generation kind of leap of difference. You know what I mean? Maybe I expect more considering the amount of processing power that a current pc can provide compared to a console. And I suppose that's why I always feel that people isn't playing the games now, just complaining and complaining about tiny things.
Did the patch improve standard ps4 performance? Obviously they did a bunch of optimizing to get it running faster on the pro, so I'm wondering if those same optimizations were applied to the standard version as well.
interesting. i was playing the game yesterday night on the PS4 pro with lite version. I knew it was unlocked frame rate but only at around 40 - 50 FPS was a real bummer to hear. I think the game is still playable but i was expecting a little better considering how much time they had to update it.
What Square Enix needs to do is fix the High mode's frame pacing issues, drop the detail level on the Lite mode so that it can reach a solid 60fps, and add in an additional option for Unlocked.
ill have to try the unlocked framerate myself, it looks like its fairly consistent to me for what they've shown. certainly some areas have higher framerates, but the framerate doesn't seem to be bouncing all over that place.
What if they do something similar to what Team Ninja did with NIOH, which is have a dynamic resolution scaling between 720p and 900p attempting to keep a constant 60fps?
I was waiting for a frame-pacing fix for the standard PS4 but after 2 months I just went ahead and finished the game. It was hard to get used to and definitely not something you want to get used to... I prefer smooth 30fps to an unlocked framerate that dips under 60 anyway, but SE doesn't seem to be able to resolve this on the Playstation platform. I'm really not certain what are the technical differences that may make it easier to eliminate frame pacing inconsistencies for the Microsoft platform if they are so similar hardware wise... Also I expected the lackluster "60fps" performance with this patch as it was already stated in many places that the team had technical difficulties with the engine powering this game - to the degree that some of the more action packed scenes (like the E3 Leviathan attack escape in Altissia) were reworked to be more simple because the rendering times were so bad on the PS4 as opposed to a high end PC. Sadly I really doubt we'll ever see those gameplay scenes ever being incorporated back into the game even if a PC version comes along. At this point, I'm hoping that UE 4 is not posing such problems for the team in developing FF7 Remake and KH 3. It seems to be much more reworked and stable but that's to be determined when they show some more footage in motion.
wow, I held off for 60fps patch. I shelved the game after putting about 12hrs into it. played with the patch for about an hour before watching this video. I knew it was about 50fps tops. gonna have to play it through like this.
is so weird that framepacing just causes an inconsistent view of the game, at least here on the video, the XB1 footage looks super fluid and is just a 30 fps scene like ps4 footage, I just wish this game arrives to PC some day in the future
I think we can all agree there is almost no chance of further major improvement patches at this point. Would have been happy with a solid 30fps cap (no frame pacing issues) ps4 pro resolution enhanced version of the game to play. That might have made me overlook the other issues the game has like the terrible camera system and inane story/characters. Oh well, plenty of other quality stuff to play (Nioh etc) and more promising titles on the immediate horizon (Zero Dawn, Mass Effect etc..)
Thank you for this video, that's exactly what I thought yesterday when switched on. I hope they will see it and will make it the third mode. for now, they just ruin my belowed light mode. and it is worth mentioning that the noise is now much louder from fans.
Granted it'd be awesome to have a 1080p/60 and a 4K/30 experience for the game, but if the frame rate seriously bugs you enough to miss out on a good game that's a damn shame.
you guys could use tvs with freesync, or at least 80hz for locked 40fps. I´ve played a few games at 74hz/37fps on pc and it makes quite a difference over 60hz/30fps.
I feel like this is harshly critical. 45-50fps is still higher than 30. Seeing it move faster is a joy. Perhaps others, like myself, wouldn't have known (or cared about) frame-pacing until Digital Foundary started making a big deal about it with a constantly changing graph.
For whoever lands on this video: Patch 1.09 in 2018 added a third “Steady” mode which fixes this problem.
I wish they test the 3 new option.
And ps4 slim users get nothing....
Shinji D Lite mode on PS4 Slim is locked 30 frames
@@DiggOlive wait there is a lite mode for slim users? Cause i have a lot of frame drops when fights starts and it annoys the crap out of me
Shinji D I’ve been looking for an example of extreme frame drops on RUclips but haven’t found a single one. I’m considering if I should get Slim or Pro for FF7 Remake...

Anton Tirol Because blaming console hardware for bad performance and not blaming €1500 PC performance when its shit on PC, doesn't fit the PC elitists narrative.

Lol it's on the floor XD
This issue is finally solved, as the lite mode is a locked 60 fps on ps5! :D
That’s great to know! THANKS!

Ragnar Tabet How can you say it's coming?
junaidesse Square Enix mentioned the PC version will come out in a year or so.

frame-pacing issues in 2017, wtf?

Great comment...imbecile wannabe elitist.
YOU HAD 3 MONTHS AND YOU MADE IT WORSE GOD DAMMIT
Interesting how it had so much trouble when it came out on PS4 Pro.
I can tell you that on PS5, FFXV offers a pretty much rocksteady 60fps experience in Lite mode, as far as I can tell. Buttery smooth.
I'm actually loving this higher (albeit variable) framerate. The blur when panning the camera at 30fps used to strain my eyes a bit, but now it's a lot smoother. It's not perfect but I personally prefer this over the old 30fps lite option. But SE really should have just added this as a 3rd option instead of replacing the original one.
Oh lord how a PC version is needed.
beg more
Sure, if I get the game on PC then yes. I can't be asked to play it on PS4 any longer.
DeadPhoenix86 just like the beggar race. Which is what you guys are, funny you call console gamers peasants. Only peasants beg for ports. ;)
dpchemod Funny weren't console peasants "begging" for mods on PS4 for Fallout 4? Oh they were.
DmarcusBaus lol stick those mods into your ass
mods are for nogames pc -- consoles don't need crap like that
pays $400 for a upgrade still can't hit 60fps 😂😂😂😂
meh we have horizon zero dawn ... what do you have for the $1000 pc? ant wars 2 in 60FPS lol
PsyGnosiS lmao idk what the game is nor care for all this peasantry u speak of
PsyGnosiS i hope this game you're raving about at least holds a stable 30 fps
TrayDTV pays $500+ for a decent pc and still gets broken PC ports 😂😂😂
93Legit yes because all us pc player love playing call of duty touché
Haven't watched yet... I'm guessing it's going to be an unlocked framerate that flies all over the place.
WH250398 yep
he got it right tho :D Dunno why u bashing his pretty much on point guess. Only thing he missed is they actually removed the option to play frame-locked in the PS4 Pro, which leads to the conclusion: this game now plays better on standard PS4's/XBO than in a Pro.
*****
I didn't.
go buy a ps4 pro and play the game there....and comment later again. Thx
I have a ps4 pro and high end gaming PC and I'm glad I do cause in situations like this I would just play it on my PC for better performance and not be stuck and praying for a patch to make things better.
But at the same time I have to pray my PC port is not trash and it run smoothly at the same time
so I guess it's good to have both options man.
I played Hitman on PS4 Pro and I never felt a noticeable performance issue, yet it felt more smooth and natural compared to the 30fps lock!
nothing wrong with uncapped frame it is how the 'dev' implements it that matters
Locked 60 fps on lite mode is great but I hoped for a possibility of ps5 helping the frame pacing issue in high perfromance mode , but sadly no :/ you move the camera view just a bit and you can see on its movement that something is off the whole time in this mode
Eagerly waiting for Horizon Zero Dawn tech analysis... Another great game to the PS4 library. Can't wait to pick that one up.
Going by the early reviews it looks like we gamers are in for a real treat :)
yup can't wait to play that.
Md Ray my question has as much to do with your post as your post has to do with this video.
I've noticed that framerate stops bothering me when it's above 40-45 fps so in my case I prefer uncapped to 30 locked. Still, although I have a PS4, I'm waiting on a PC release for this one. It may not come soon but I'm hoping it will come eventually.
41.7 fps rock solid.
4ThePeasants.
temannopellaria at least it didn't cost me 1000$
Pascal well my 600$ machine can hold 1080 and 54 fps
u poor?
rodrigo LFP quite
rodrigo LFP is that a big deal ?
This shouldn't be a problem at all, I was waiting for this patch to play this but I think I might keep waiting
make the resolution 480p and its 60fps. ps4 pro cant handle 1080p
CPU cant deliver 60 fps no matter the resolution.
Its not about resolution, since resolution is gpu power dependand, but mostly about cpu, and guess what? Jaguar mobile cpu sucks big time and is bottlenecking ps4pro once again.
just do 900p
480p 240fps!! - Doom Style Speeds!
Logic Gamer || nah maybe 720p makes it handle it.
hahahaha i remember the LOOKING AT THE GROUND technique back in the old days with my potato PC
Dimitris kostoudis I still do that lel
when Square Enix means they're releasing a 60 fps, they actually mean a PC version
While far from perfect, it's good to see Pro being used as it should be, to improve performance. Removing the locked 30fps option was supid, though.
well if the ps4 version can hit 50, a pc version should find 60 no problem which is good
Its 30 to 60 depending how cpu intensive particular game scenario is, it stay around 30-35fps durning fighting vs multiple enemies, running around in the cities and even riding chocobos ;X
Nick well...no it's not good. A PC version doesn't exist, regardless of a version "possibly" existing in the future...
It will.. all ff games are on pc right now, except for this one, it will come, its a fact.
yep. game deserves a decent version
@Ariel Actually no, XII is not on PC for example. Here's hoping the remaster will get there tho.
This was a similar issue to KH 0.2 where the unlocked framerate just gave an overall inconsistent experience. I hope square at least gives us the option to play on a fixed 30 FPS or unlocked.
weird the XB1 version is now the best way to play it? it has the most consistent framerate and pacing.
And the One X is even better :)
Long life PC Master Race.
lol if only u knew how hilarious u console peasants sound. enjoy your 30fps experience, while we game on glorious 1440p 144hz screens
Most AAA games come out for PC and in almost all cases they run better too.
Emanuel Cardoso Lol, almost 200 FPS in BF1 for me and my PC doesn't even have a 1080 or Titan XP. Console peasants are braindead cockroaches.
well, depends on what PC you have, could easily be 720p/10FPS
Long live PC beggar race that has to wait 2-3 years for late, poorly optimized console ports.
Waitting for the PC version. Hopefully at the end of the year. As they said that PC version is not impossible.
Mario Ryuzaka Noctis dies
Buddy Boy do not play with my emotions, if its true then i will never buy a console again in my life.
miguelr246 noctis dies
@@Pendaemonium wtf man? Fuck you
FACEPALM ... DEEP BREATH... HOLD IT IN... release ...
WHAT THE FUCK SQUARE ENIX ? WHEN WAS TAKING A CHOICE AWAY FROM PEOPLE EVER BEEN A GOOD IDEA ?
Maybe it will run at 1080p 60 on the PS4 Pro Pro?
No, they'd rather do 8k at 1fps
Can you guys make a video going into what frame-timeframe-pacing is? I never understand this when you guys start talking about it and I've been gaming for 25 years.
They briefly mention it in a couple of videos. It's how long a frame is on a screen before the next one is delivered. Games with bad frame-pacing and perform around 45 fps interval between having a frame on screen for 16ms (which is the time for 60fps) and 33ms (which is the time for 30fps), but can fluctuate more than that
idk, I played for hours last night and loved the unlocked frame rate. to each his own I guess
psykosonikwarrior k
Pokemon Trainer Blue, a fact is not an opinion
MAXIMUM TRIGGER
just let grayson enjoy the game dammit D:
i love ff15 too :D
psykosonikwarrior YOU people disgust me.
Shouldve just had the high framerate mode run with a dynamic res between 720-900p for solid performance.
I dunno why anyone truly believed that ffxv would be able to run at a consistent 60fps on the ps4 pro lol
Very few of the people I've talked to actually even notice inconsistent frame time, almost always preferring a higher frame rate. I believe even those at DF would not notice many of the frame time issues they seem to obsess over if they did not have a tool to detect it.
Square-Enix, *PLEASE FIX THIS.*
I have waited for a _DECADE_ to play this game (i remember when it was called FF versus 13).
Since I have a PS4 Pro I will not be buying a copy of the game until this issue is fixed. (even though I really want to.)
Take all the time you need. I have waited 10 years. I can wait another year if that's what it takes to fix this issue, but *PLEASE DO NOT FORGET* to solve this problem for us Playstation 4 Pro owners.
Thanks.
P.S.
if any Xbox fans are reading this comment feel free to gloat. your fandom has earned you the right to do so in this instance.
hahaha ps7 suks
I think, if you can't deliver smooth 4k, you need to give player option to get stable 1080p with improved post proccesing.
And if you can't give smooth 60FPS, you must give player option to enble 30FPS cut.
This may be a slightly old vid but I'm just going to say this.
Square has a horrible track record for optimization on any game they make..
I've got no real issue with unlocked frame rates, unless its under 40fps since at that point I'll take the 30fps cap, but higher than 40, I'll want it uncapped simply because, despite the image appearing slightly more juddery, the controller response is greatly improved and the feel of a game is important to me.
wait. you people actually thought it would be 60?
under wich rock do you live? it couldn't always hold 30, how on earth would it be able to hit 60!?
I actually liked the update a lot, sure its a bit jittery but it feels more fluid than before
how to get the real 60 fps patch.
wait for pc release.
I don't want to wait 2+ years. Good luck with that. Noctis dies BTW.
ZERO nobody deserves that, especially for saying the truth.
+ZERO
Guess that's two years I have to forget about that spoiler ;)
MrGamemaker8 Yo won't be able to forget it. Actually, none of them survives. Even Luna dies in the middle of the game.
ZERO trying to spoil the game doesn't change the fact that the PC version will be the definitive version
PS4 pro fails again...
lulz.
GameZard Devs fault though.
It's both that the System is too weak and that Square can't optimize games to save their life.
squares fault old lite is gone, pros that it isn't 60
Other games doesn't have this bad framepacing. Xone doesn't have framepacing issues. Base PS4 has framepacing issues. Both have similar hardware so power argument is eliminated. What the pro does is just bump the resolution of the base PS4. Base PS4 version has issues so ofcourse Pro would also have it. Looks like it might be in the PS4 code. Again, other games play perfectly fine on the pro.
*STILL THE BEST GAME 2016*
No Wun overwatch is trash
I think so too. Also one of my favorite FF easily. But uncharted 4 wasn't bad either ;)
I can't Waite to play this game on Xbox Scorpio 🙃
Ahmed Now at 144p2fps
It's clear why because there simply are no other games worth playing.
The Xbox scorpio is better hardware than PS4 pro so its gonna easily play FFXV at 4k 60fps.
***** do you realize that at least 1500 dollars are required to play 4k with a pc?
How is a 400 dollar system gonna play at 4k if the current one can't even reach 60 fps at 1080p resolution?
Scorpio will run it way better than the pro I can't wait til Scorpios release to finally shut you fake pony gamers down
Why would Microsoft make the most powerful console ever to not be able to do what they say it does they will not make the same mistake twice Jeeeze be open minded and stop hating on and game system
2013 budget PC performance.
Shut up.
a 2013 pc has more power than ps4.^^
What a stupid fucking comment. My 2013 laptop sure is less powerfull than my ps4.
all laptops are expensive shit.l to creat a 1500 dollar desktop pc inside a laptop u need around 3000-3500 dollar.
yeah because a rx 470 was budget in 2013
My Thoughts: While the new Lite mode does appear a bit juttery, at least it's somewhat constant in its frame rate and not fluctuating from 30FPS to 60FPS.
I regret buying ps4 pro for this shit game. Tales of Berseria was so much better. It doesn't deserve the ff name.
SeKToR The pro seems to be worth it for Horizon Zero Dawn. That game really looks amazing on the pro
SeKToR Horizon and Nioh are games that make infinitely better use of the Pro's capabilities. There'll be more games along the way that'll be better optimised than this shitshow too.
SeKToR The game is great and deserves the Final Fantasy name.
rJUSTINr1995 Story is very inconsistent and weird pacing overall.
FF died after the XII
I noticed you guys mention the Xbox One and PS4 original examples w/ lesser frame pacing issues but only show gameplay outside the city (arguably the most demanding part of the game that you show in the video - only to be shown w/ the PS4 Pro version). Did you guys by chance happen to check their frame rates in those areas as well?
have you guys tried the game with the ps4 pro patch lite with boost mode activated? or is that beta closed?
Daniel Madril Jr boost mode is for games that don't have a pro patch only.
I was going to get this on my PS4 Pro but now I changed my mind... will have to wait for the PC release.
It feels pretty smooth to me. Please don't report your opinion as fact.
He pointed out that some people prefer the unlocked framerate
Opinion as fact? Can you not see the tech graphs and data that shows that the "opinion" is clearly FACT. Game runs like ass, fuck off.
What a resounding disappointment. I'll buy this game when it's $15.
KlassicKrusty Best thing to do.
All the while watching every video about it and kvetching about issue you have no experience with.
Bought this game at $8 lmao
Supposedly Death Stranding and Gran Turismo Sport will run native but we'll have to wait and see.
so two ps3 games run at 4k on the ps4 pro? holy shit thats powerful.
2017 and games still have frame pacing issues. How do we still have these issues developers?
Disappointing. I guess I'm still going to wait for the PC version
Tropic Moon Noctis dies
That's not true. Noctis lives on PC.
MrGamemaker8 poor pc peasant doesn't get the joke lel.
+Fonso128
Is there a joke other than that he dies in FFXV? I was making a joke myself that he lives on PC because the game's not out on PC
I'm not waiting 3 years for 30 fps, they game runs find and most people only notice the difference when they watch comparison videos.
Personally im not too bothered by bad frame pacing but am always glad notice it when frames are delivered correctly! Coming from pc to ps4 recently I noticed quite a few games are prone to occasional frame rate issues... Gotta push the graphics harder these days I guess that the focus over frame rate...
I cant believe sony fans waiting for so long only for uncapped fps update
I'll take an unlocked 60 over a locked 30 any day of the week, and if COD/Madden/BF sales on console are anything to go by, so would most people.
MrGamemaker8 "Geek" is about as insulting as "jock" to me - I'm both. Agree with you on the rest though.
That's true, it was accurate. Sorry about that.
I feel for you, but fortunately for me I love unlocked frame rates and going on 82hrs in High mode, the frame pacing doesn't bother me at all in fact I don't notice it, although I know technically it is there.
this peasant life sucks :(
Ripan Dutta you don't have the game
@ripan This nerd life sucks :(
How are you enjoying FFXV on pc?
CONVERT MY FRIEND
Ripan Dutta man it sure does suck having horizon zero dawn 😂🖕
I personally am completely unaffected by a variable frame rate, although it is a huge bummer that a smooth 30 fps has been removed.
Xbox Scorpio will be True 4K at 60 fps or at least a stable 30 fps.
Jerome Freeman no chance of that. the game runs checkerboard 1800p on ps4 pro.
scropio might handle it on checkerboard 2160p at 30fps but not native 2160p
Jerome Freeman Scorpio will play it at 1080p 60fps.
considering you need at least a 1080 for 60fps at 4k you can forget about a console offering that, its total BS.
Jerome Freeman
Lol unfortunately bro the one x version of this was only slightly better I have it.
Thanks Digital Foundry.
such a dumb update
Ugh I was afraid of this. I hate variable frame rates. I really liked the stability of the original lite mode :(
Nier Automata >>>>> this turd of a game.
Thanks
Who here thinks that Tabta and Luminous studio will optimize the PRO version and release another patch? We need a fix for HIGH FP and LITE FPS.
EagerSnake maybe your PC isn't pulling the highest frame rate?
Or your eyes are not that sensitive?
If there is a question mark at the end of a digital foundry video, you know something is wrong
ill have to try the unlocked framerate myself, it looks like its fairly consistent to me for what they've shown. certainly some areas have higher framerates, but the framerate doesn't seem to be bouncing all over that place.
Why do people dislike? There's no reason. He provided the information you were looking for professionally.
This video did not show up in my subscription tab.
wow, I held off for 60fps patch.
What do I think?
Back in the days, when I was a young fella nobody cared about the Frame Time, Frame pacing, FPS, we simply enjoyed the PSX games.
I can't tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps when gaming, so have no idea why people get all worked up over it.
This is were boost mode comes into play
PS4 PRO I hope you're joking.
PS4 PRO - Nope. Pro supported games get nothing from boost mode.
Would not change the weak hardware.
Md Ray the 1080p unlocked option will
GameZard Scorpio will not change anything it has no exclusives all games run better on pc.All you need is a PS4/pc & Nintendo
you guys could use tvs with freesync, or at least 80hz for locked 40fps.
Is there a video that explain why frame pacing matters? When does frame pacing completely break a game?
