The only thing I’d add after 1 year of AE1 ownership is that they are rear ported so this needs to be taken into account with placement, they need some space from a rear wall to balance the bass from the port with that from the driver
That kind of design does annoy me a bit, because one of the reasons people want small speakers is because they need something that doesn't take up as much space, but so many of them are designed to be used well out from the wall, which negates any space saving.
They have that option to cut some bass so it's not that bad. I have them in super small room and they perform very well.
Finally catching up on some old riffs! I own AVI DM5’s, which are small active speakers like the AE1, & love the fact that you can achieve such great sound for a relatively small budget.
I’m still surprised that in 2024 there are only a few affordable active speakers from UK manufacturers but I suppose they don’t want to give up the traditional amp/speaker model…

I'm having a hard time imagining how to set these up. I've always owned a reciever, passive spkrs, and a source. Looks like I would need a pre-amp, some xlr cables, and a power strip or conditioner to plug both units in. Am I missing something?
Hi, nice riff, I’m looking for a pair of active speakers that allow me to run from my preamp - with the ability to run analogue and digital sources. I was looking at these and wondered what alternatives there are? I love these because of their uncomplicated approach and that they won’t become outdated or unsupported at a later date. Also how long is the power cable? Thanks
I like the idea of these we have a small cottage 2 kids and dog so not much space or cash now that we have to pay £3500 a year for electricity!!! Thank you for an honest revue I will be ordering a pair this weekend. I won't be fitting them in my TR7 though but may be my old Fordson Major!

@@michaelevans7015 Well its puny 1.5 litre pasta cooker of an engine would just about work as a generator to power them, I suppose!
@@MrVinylista the TR7 had a 2 litre engine it was the Spitfire with a 1500cc engine, you could also retrofit a 3.5 litre Rover V8 which made the car career off the road into trees a lot, especially when driven by Tony Pond!

Sorry but how is this a review. There is no mention of other products or how products compare. It’s just two bods waxing lyrical with no preparation or effort and low pro videography- but it’s not a review. There is never any willingness amongst many reviewers in this industry to be independent and impartial. I just came away with the impression that these are two guys too in bed with the hifi industry. Btw students don’t spend £1000 on speakers, not least my niece who has thousands in loans. The bit to the end was funny when scored 10/10 but no comparisons. How can a product get ten with no comparison. Come on - inject some semblance of credibility into hifi and not dodginess.
Dear Simon. For me this is primarily a chat based on their history and experiences. And it is also humorous. If Mike and Dave for instance gives to some B&W speaker 9 and to Mofi's SP 9 or 8 it would not bother me soo much. I would just raise my eyebrows with a bold question mark in my eyes. But when Steve Guttenberg picked up B&W 6's for speakers of the year I unsubscribed from his channel.What is a criteria, a main orientation point at reviewers estimations? What does high fidelity mean to the reviewer? A hype or... just anything, what gear does good or great in its price range?For me Hi-Fi (high fidelity) is fidelity to presentation of natural tone, timbre of voice and instruments, their bodies (some are using word organic, I guess) and frequency balance, as the musician would play unplugged in the room. So for instance Mofi's 10 or 8 are for my ears much closer to this criteria than B&W's entry's or their high end speakers. But of course if you are looking for high transparent, revealing speakers with great micro dynamic and detail magnifications in upper register in sound stage than B&W 803/4 D4 are a bull eye, but for me are just another unnatural extreme of music presentation (at least acoustic one), so they are not even in a hi-fi league - for me. Ok, maybe listening to them with Michi's top notch gear is not an optimal combination.
A friend of mine got a Wiim Pro for NY gift. We listen to it in two systems, and... I was highly disappointed... It ruined a sound presentation of both systems, especially in the sense of natural instruments timbre, sound, instruments body and good soundstage... and out there on YT and elsewhere there are so many good reviews about this product. Ok, if Randy - Chepaaudioman says, it is a good DAC, ok, maybe in a low price register and that is ok with me. But if Thomas Tan - Thomas and Stereo would claim Wiim Pro is a good or great DAC overall, I would suspect that something is not ok and very wrong. Because a gear with such poor sound presentation is just an electronic audio gear and it has nothing to do in terms of high fidelity of instruments sound and presentation.
So I do appreciate with Mike and Dave their presentations of gears which were a hype, or meaningful for the hi-fi world or for them and connected stories. You can get an insight or feeling of their evolving as audiophiles. And l also do appreciate your efforts with your channel.

@@majtextwriter1794the Wiim Pro is an excellent streamer with a pretty poor dac. The way to use it is with an external dac.
