  • What was that light in the sky? SpaceX Falcon 9 launch offers dramatic show over L.A.
    I shot this video from my front yard in Bakersfield, Ca. this evening.
    Satellite just launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base 12-22-2017
    What an AWESOME site to see.
    A rocket carrying a new weather satellite was launched successfully from Vandenberg Air Force Base early Saturday, with plans to put the satellite in a polar orbit to help improve forecasting and hurricane tracking.
    The Delta II rocket carrying the Joint Polar Satellite System-1, the first in a new series of polar-orbiting satellites, took off from Space Launch Complex 2 at 1:47 a.m., according to NASA.

    Now I see how so many were freaked out they only saw some of the launch. You got almost the full show, nice catch.

    This is the best video seen by far!! You can clearly see when it broke the dome and what it really looks like in space. that's how come there is a gap in the clouds! wow!! What are they preparing us for now?!!

    Nice camera work. First stage returning to earth nice perspective.. Is it just me or these rockets getting more horizontal nowadays?

      It's just you and everyone else that balks at that because they are so unused to seeing a proper launch, and this one with the night sky but the sun shinning in the upper atmosphere just after sunset highlights it even more. SpaceX have upped the quality of showing people what launches look like in reality. I advise you to watch the SpaceX hosted youtube account video of this and other launches. Rockets do a pitch kick (slanted turn) before they enter space and once they get there it gets even more pronounced because, in space ... the only way to stay in orbital space is to be moving fast in an orbital trajectory.
      Most people think satellites and rockets go straight up and stop dead. I know you probably don't think that, but a lot of people do ... they have no idea that the only way to stay in orbit is to move fast in orbital free fall.

    ?Is is why is the smoke from the supposed rocket still glowing. Never have iv ever seen that b4. And what was the secondary object that came out pulsating behind the original object. These are the questions that should be pondered on

    • @sunside79334
      @sunside79334 6 лет назад +1

      that's not the smoke glowing by itself but it was lit up by the sun when it was high enough, in fact such sight is quite rare as it only could happen in a certain timeframe before sunrise or after sunset and the trajectory of the rocket has to be mostly south or north bound/mostly perpendicular to the path of the sun to provide the extended view. all of that was the case at this particular launch date and time.
      secondary object was the first stage of this particular F9 rocket by spacex which is known to have 2 stages, the pulsating was done by the nitrogen thrusters mounted on first stage to orient/align it backwards after stage seperation and perform an additional burn to slow it down and follow rapid descending trajectory as they're known to have the capabilty to recover the first stage of the rocket (which was not the case here or even necessary btw as they didn't intend to recover the booster in the first place, but they performed the burn anyway).
      if you look more closely to the video there are even 2 more orbs visible coming apart from the first stage, these were the payload fairings being jettisoned and falling back behind.

      to what clouds in the sky are you actually referring to as there obviously have not been any visible ones at that altitude? as an estimation by comparison of the actual launch footage by spacex (see here starting at 14:58 ruclips.net/video/wtdjCwo6d3Q/видео.html) i'd say the contrail of the rocket started being lit up by the sun at an altitude far above 50 kilometers, and while there have been numerous instances of a similar phenomenon called noctilucent clouds (which happens to also be a rare sight only visible under certain parameters, go check wikipedia for en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noctilucent_cloud ) that wasn't the case here as there haven't been any clouds of that type visible at all before launch.

      There are no such clouds in California. In latitudes of 43-65 degrees’ latitude there are silver clouds at an altitude of 76-85 kilometers very transparent to be visible day or night, but beautifully illuminated by the sun before dawn or after sunset. Naturally, other clouds should not be, that in the upper latitudes is less common. Perhaps airliner pilots are more likely to observe this phenomenon.

      svborek 1975 ohh I'll tell u y cause the rocket's bright orange flame was illuminated by the sun that provides a light show the falcon 9 first stage is in the bottom and the second stage is on the top people think that in L.A they were aliens no is the 4th flight of the falcon 9 is called iridium 4 next cause some rocket causes the light
