    I saw this in South-Eastern Arizona, 65 mi outside of Tucson. It took up about 1/3 of the sky where the rocket was traveling. In the plume behind the rocket the sky was lit like it was daylight. I could see the mountains and houses. It almost looked like it was spraying a fine mist of something into the sky. We don't have city lights out here so the contrast was very marked. The sky was nearly black except where the rocket trail was. When I recorded it, these were my words...
    "What the f* is this? I can't zoom in any closer. It looks like a plane with a plume of white light or white something going across the sky. What the h*ll is that. I don't know what that is. Really weird."
    It really was quite beautiful. My phone video came out like when you take a picture of an over-sized moon without special lens ... it doesn't render the proportion you see, instead it shows a tiny dot.
    The thing looked like 0:28 onward on this film, but way bigger & way brighter. It was directed towards Mexico which made me wonder why.
    I actually had hesitation that something grave might be going on given all the treason we're being made aware of by past Administrations, the intense international globalist billionaire cabal attacking us through media, the Progressives in blue states willing to surrender the freedom & independence of our nation to them, the betrayals we see daily in Congress and the Intelligence Communities, and the silence of our Justice Department thus far giving the appearance that nothing will be done. It made me sad, wondering if I was witnessing an interceptor.
    I did not see the stages drop off. I only saw a plume towards the ground that looked like smoke. It looked like a launch happened in the Sahuarita / Vail area. So wow, that it was in another STATE. Holy smokes. Those must have been some BIG clouds.

      @IvanHernandez-kz5uq Год назад

      I'm surprised you clearly saw it all the way in Tucson Arizona... it was launched here in California 147 miles away from my town. It lit up the south end of our town, Walmart shopping was killing it with all the bright parking lot lights but you could still see miles behind Walmart being lit up by this amazing event.

    • @662wc5
      @662wc5 Год назад

      @@IvanHernandez-kz5uq I was driving cross country to SoCal from back east and was on I-40 westbound just west of the NM - AZ border (about 500 miles from Vandenberg) when I saw it in the sky straight ahead and very low on the horizon. It took me a few seconds to realize what I was looking at. People on WB I-40 were braking, pulling over, and getting out of their cars in the middle of nowhere in dark AZ to look at it and take pictures. I didn't realize it was a rocket launch from Vandenberg at first until I saw a bright dot fall away from it and realized it was a booster or stage falling away from a rocket. The only reason people could see it so well from so far away is because it was just after sunset, and once it gained enough altitude the sun over the horizon was shining on the plume and backlighting it against the dark sky, which made it look like it was glowing. In the middle of the day or night the plume would be the same brightness or darkness as the surrounding sky and wouldn't be nearly as noticeable. Launches just after sunset are always spectacular. We had one just after sunset a few evenings ago that looked a lot like that one.

      3 years late, but pretty sure they’re the RCS thrusters (thrusters used to turn and control the rocket) just correcting their course or something

  • @rtboyd1171
    @rtboyd1171 7 лет назад

    Of course they are not boosters (plural) breaking off as described in the video. It's a spectacular view of the retrorockets firing on the first stage booster after separation.

    It's not 'backlit by the Sun' - the exhaust is electrically charged, like plasma. It's glowing! The reason we're not used to seeing this effect is that it's relatively new - the atmosphere is changing. See here for an explanation: www.sott.net/article/372200-SpaceX-rocket-launch-spooks-Californians-with-eerie-glowing-trail-VIDEOS

    • @Lezzylree
      @Lezzylree 6 лет назад +3

      Then why cant we see the ploom during night if its glowing!? Because its not. Its backlit

    • @georgeforester5084
      @georgeforester5084 2 года назад +2

      It’s not charged. It is lit up by the sun light. This is called the jellyfish effect. It happens when rockets launch before sunrise or after sunset. There is about a 30 minute window. Out side of this window, no shiny exhaust. I live in Florida and watch rocket launches all the time. This only happens during the window described above. Very rare event.

    • @d23g32
      @d23g32 Год назад

      Nonsense. I've lived near Vandenberg for over forty years and have seen more of these than I can count, including twice in just the last month as well as the Dec '17 launch in the video. Why as the sun sets or rises is the bottom of a mountain in the dark while the top is brightly lighted? Is the top of the mountain "electrically charged, like plasma"? No, the bottom of the mountain is in the shadow of the Earth's curvature while the top is at sufficient elevation to be in the sunlight. You can watch the shadow creep up (or down) the mountain as the Earth rotates away from (or toward) the sun. As a rocket climbs out of the shadow of the Earth's curvature and reaches a sufficient altitude to enter the sunlight, the plume is backlighted for those watching from east of a west coast sunset launch, or from west of an east coast pre-dawn launch. The contrast of the backlighted plume against the dark sky makes it very visible. Any other time of the day or night, a launch is much harder or impossible to see because the non backlighted plume and background sky are of the same lightness or darkness, and there is no contrast. I have seen this many times and have photos of it. Why isn't the plume "electrically charged" and "glowing" during a middle of the day or middle of the night launch?
      A similar effect can be seen with the vapor trails of high flying aircraft just after sunset or just before sunrise. On the ground it's dark, but the vapor trails of a jet and the jet itself are high enough to be in the over-the-horizon sunlight, and that reflected sunlight makes them "glow" and be very visible from the ground against the dark sky. As a USAF vet, or likely anyone who has spent much time in the air, I have seen this effect from the air many times just before sunrise or just after sunset. The sky above and the ground below are dark, but at 30k - 40k feet we're flying in bright sunshine.

      (Copy and pasted from a google search.)
      A sonic boom is heard by observers when the shock wave(s) produced by an object moving at supersonic speed passes by them. This is unlikely to happen with a rocket launch since the vehicle is at high altitude and moving away
