  • You can either hike this trail on your own, or take an escorted hike with our company, which can be ordered at www.yellowstone....
The South Rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone hike, along with its north rim counterpart across the Yellowstone River ( • Slip Sliding The North... ), is one of the more beautiful, shorter, trails in all of Yellowstone! Think about it. You follow a major river through a stunning canyon, past two waterfalls, while meandering through a forest, and ending up at a place called Artist Point!
This is one of several virtual Yellowstone tours in our channel which focus on the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Others include the North Rim Trail hike, the North Rim drive, the Brink of the Upper Falls, the Brink of the Lower Falls, and Artist Point itself.
Most people start the Yellowstone south rim trail hike from the parking lot at Uncle Tom's Trail, but I prefer a longer version, which begins at the Chittenden Bridge - the bridge over the Yellowstone River - that leads you to Uncle Tom's as well as Artist Point. There is parking available a very short way up the road, at the Wapiti Lake trailhead parking lot.
The trail does go past the branch off to Uncle Tom's Trail, which you can do on this hike, or as a separate adventure some other time on your Yellowstone trip.
The South Rim Trail is a there and back trail, and not a round trip loop. If you'd like to do the actual hike just one way, you can always walk back along the road to the Wapiti Lake trailhead parking lot, which is a lot quicker.

Love your videos. This was a fantastic video of the trail We are going back again this year and want to do this trail. I think the hardest part will be deciding where to park our car. It looks like a fun trail, but did you have someone pick up up from Artist Point or did you go back an do that whole trail again? Maybe we could do it in stages? Thanks again.

Can I access this trail from the upper falls view parking lot as well? Also, should I download apps like the alltrails app for hikes in Yellowstone? Thanks!
