    What I most enjoy about these videos is feeling eager to visit Japan's countryside someday... and not only the major tourist and historical mainstream hubs.
    Thanks so much for this.

      You will LOVE it. I lived in Japan for 4 years. When I took the train from Omura to Oita on a Saturday morning to visit the library, there would be pools of mist between the hills, and then on the way back, especially in Autumn, the sun would set the hillside of red-orange-yellow leaved hilsides on fire. Don't even get me started on the Sakura soaked scenes which seemed like pinkish snow, or a billion butterflies. Visit an old castle, climb a hill, then soak in an Onsen and know that you have really lived.

      Do it ASAP. I’m nearly 70 and did a solo visit in May this year. I enjoyed it so much I couldn’t wait to go back and did so in October. I was happiest in the places tourists rarely visit. I only know a handful of Japanese words but managed fine, you will too. The only downside is that it takes me 30 hours to get there from the UK but I’m looking to go again next year😊

    This reminds me of when I lived in Omura (which serves as the airport for Nagasaki). I was working as a teacher at a couple os schools and chose a house away from the main road - but I hadn't really had a look around. So, there I was, sleeping on my first night in my new home in town, and then I was awakened by an almighyt noise of alarms for barriers closing to traffic for trains. Unhappy to say the least, I went to sleep downstairs on the other side of my little house only to be woken again by the sudden ear-splitting alarms of the barriers coming down to stop traffic from crossing the road due to trains. Next day I realised my house was in a sort of Y-shape island between TWO barrier crossings! On top of that, the locals used to get milk/yoghurt deliver around 5am by motorcycle, PLUS a neighbour kept chickens which (despite the cartoons showing them crowing at sunrise) screeched from around 3am onwards. Up until then I used to look young for my age.

    such a pleasant way to end an evening. After a long hot day of yard work. Thank you for taking these video's. I like these small local rail lines. If I ever make it over to Japan. I'd love to ride some of these. I'd be kinda scared, since I understand so little of the language. So here I sit watching and dreaming.

    • @frederickschulkind8431

      Replacement rails to be installed in the track later or they have been removed and not yet taken away.

    • @davidjohnwagstaff1235
      @davidjohnwagstaff1235 5 месяцев назад +2

      I'm absolutely no expert here, but the rails are placed too consistently at sharp bends for this extra rail to be replacement rail awaiting removal. Also, the entrance to these pieces of track are splayed out slightly, suggesting that maybe there is an extra wheel (or similar) on the train that inserts itself between the extra rail and the track. In the UK on sharp bends these pieces of "check rail" -- which are designed to alleviate wear on the outer rail -- are placed INSIDE the track, i.e. inside the 4 foot 8.5 inch spaced rails. Maybe in the Japanese system they are place on the outside. This is a pretty good idea if you think about it, as it means that the OUTER rail is easily accessible to be replaced. Also, is this video of a 3 foot 6 gauge line? If so that might be another reason for having an outer, rather than inner, check rail. Just a thought.
