One day some Bloods were on a porch shooting dice and they stopped me walking and one of em picked me up while the other one took my shoes off and they made me walk the rest of the way home in my socks. I was about 8 years old then. Man, I remember watching this opening night. The theatre was HYPED. I'm sure it takes many creative liberties and glosses over certain details like any biopic, but there was something so cool about watching a biopic about more (for lack of a better term) "recent" artists that I actually grew up on. I always loved the first half of the movie; it really does play like a superhero team-up movie, where we're one-by-one introduced to the key members, seeing their skill sets (DJing, rapping, writing, producing, etc), and seeing the why and how they get together. Considering this came out the same year as "Age of Ultron", I remember telling my buddies at the time: "This is the best superhero movie of the year." LOL. The actual recording scenes were so well done and full of energy; everyone in the theatre was either bopping their heads or rapping along. The second half does feel more like the conventional biopic, where it feels like they're kinda checking off the different notable moments of the group's history, but it's still hella engaging. Pleasantly surprised to see you guys reacting to this one. Love this flick.

@@billbill6094 Because he ain't apart of the story? Dre is supposed to be a DJ too but he already did his job by being one of the executive producers and had all his real music in the movie.

As a biopic, this is a better done one for me, not as formulaic in style. The colorist casting call for the women in this movie was an ick but that's why I also really encourage people to watch Surviving Compton which was like Michele's film response to this movie!

No one mentioned that before NWA, Dre & Yella were doing some androgyny electronica rap complete with eyeliners sparkly suits in World Class Wrecking Cru?
NWA came to be because Alonso merged his two groups World Class Wrecking Cru that had Yella & Dre with Cru in Action that had Ice Cube in it.

I completely agree with Aaron with wanting more as far as their backstories. I felt like they only showed behind the scenes of pivotal points in their career that the publicly is, for the most part, familiar with. The film has a production budget of about $28-$50mil. I think if it had a larger budget maybe they could’ve spent more time on the things that we don’t know like person struggles and more in depth problems with the group. We definitely should’ve gotten a look into MC Ren and DJ Yella’s backstories. Ps. Took a screenshot of Aaron’s face at 1:19:09 you’re my new fav meme 🫡😂😂

The "hood" theory has always been that Suge had one of his ex con friends, that was AIDS positive to rape Eazy. All the members have never flat out denied this. But I do think it's interesting how both Dre n Cube n Eazy's wife include that scene in the movie.

I would highly recommend you also check out the biopic All Eyez On Me, which came out two years later, which focused on the story of Tupac Shakur. Much like this it is a powerful and frequently downright FASCINATING portrait of an incredibly talented, frequently EXTREMELY controversial musical artist, and the lead, Demetrius Shipp Jr, is genuinely ON FIRE throughout (as well as looking almost UNCANNILY like Pac himself, which definitely helped).
