Good info. My inner grammer nerd needs to point out that the application of fresh product in an effort to remove product that has dried does not emulsify. It dissolves. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you for being so willing to help people and so responsive to comments. This video helped a lot, and I was able to answer my remaining questions by reading previous comments and your replies to them. Thank you so much!
Hi I just came across your video. I loved it. I'm getting ready to seal my porcelain tile in the shower. I have cleaned it very well already. I've recently bought 511 Impregnator Sealer. Is this good to be used on porcelain tile and what type of cleaner should i use along with it to maintain it? thank you
That is a great sealer. Porcelain tile is will not absorb a lot of sealer, so be careful that it doesn’t puddle up. Use the wipe on wipe off method. But after it cures fully, I would clean with this: amzn.to/49e7Ugl 🙏 for watching!
I also use 511 impregnator ... I have one more day to reach the recommended 72 hours to cure. It seems the tile surface may have a little "film" on it. I did as suggested ... apply with a lint free cloth ... let set for 3 to 5 minutes ... then wipe off. Did I not wipe it off well enough. Is there something I can do to remove this slight "film" that seems to be present?
Tips for applying sealer to a glass/marble mosaic? My brother inlaw suggested just getting it on and whiping it off vs going grout line by line and tile by tile. (He's a trade professional)
I have brand new penny size mosaic tile as a shower pan floor and need to seal the grout. Is there a quick method to seal this grout without having to paint every single tiny grout line around these tiny tiles? Thanks for being here to help us all.
Sure I would use the recommended applicator over the entire floor. The sealer will not absorb into the tile so just wipe it back up. Do a couple coats and that should take care of you.

Great video. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I have an interesting delima. We just built a log cabin and my husband was adamant to have the counter tops in the kitchen made from local stone for the rustic look. In this case it's Kilkenny limestone. I think this may be far more porous than a counter should be. Also, it is not polished but looks good when covered with a lacquer - as suggested by the supplier and shown on a sample. It's his first time to create kitchen counters or to use this material for an indoors application so he is guessing at what we should use. Am wondering what you suggest to seal and finish this properly and allow me to use it as a safe hygienic counter for food prep. Would grout sealer work well - as grout is also particularly porous? Thanks a lot!
Clean the countertop first. Use a pH-neutral cleaner for everyday cleaning. Rinse the surface thoroughly and dry it completely. Apply a penetrating sealer (Bulletproof is my favorite) that is safe for use around food. Follow the written install instructions. Apply additional coats of sealant as needed. Limestone with a textured surface may need more coats than polished limestone. Allow the countertop to dry completely, typically for 24 hours before using it again. Here are some additional tips for sealing limestone countertops: Test the sealer in an inconspicuous area first to make sure it does not alter the color of the stone. Re-seal your limestone countertops every 12-18 months, or more often if you use them heavily. Clean with the Revitalizer cleaner from Laticrete. Good luck!
Thank you for loading this. Your bonus tip may save me a lot of trouble. My sealer is a little streaky and although not milky something is off. Maybe I applied too heavy a coat and the micro fiber rag I used to wipe it on with, although clean it might have been too old. You mentioned in your bonus tip about reapplying to re-emmulsify the sealer, is there a time limit as to how long one can wait to do that. My sealer says to reapply after after a 12-24 hour period, is that within the time frame you suggest in your "bonus tip? Thank you again.
That is a tricky one. The timing has a lot to do with the conditions and temperature. I would let it sit as long you can without it drying. Maybe test a drop or to on a hidden place to be sure. Agitating with a nylon brush may be helpful also. Good luck!
511 Impregnater. Time to spot reseal shower on edges btwn floor and wall. Can I clean w/alcohol? Do I have to wait 72 hrs for reseal dry? (No shower 3 days😮)
You don’t want to be stinky, but I do suggest waiting the directed time on the directions. You can clean with alcohol but I always suggest a tile specific cleaner. Good luck!!
Question. Ceramic tile. I just cleaned all the groute. What is a good groute sealer to use? I was looking at 511 but I'm not sure. Want to keep the original grout color. Also just want to seal just the groute not the tile. Would really appreciate your advice Thank you
Hi , thank you for your informative video. I have a question, I recently installed dull porcelain tiles in my bedroom and shower floors, anything I could use to give it a more shiny finish without making it slippery?
Thank you I know you said to email you with questions but a quick one if you don’t mind. Why would you use a matte sealer on a porcelain tile that’s highly polished. The installer said it wouldn’t make a difference but I’m very skeptical? HELP PLEASE.🙏🏽
He is not wrong but I have found even with a porcelain tile a sealer can help especially when cleaning. Porcelain is considered impervious, however when polished the pores are open more and can hold dirt. IMO a sealer is cheap insurance. Good Luck!
Can I use 511 Impregnator to seal my porcelain tiles, especially the mosaic in the shower floor, and grout? Should I get the water based formula or solvent based?
You can use the 511. Just note that porcelain is considered impervious and will not absorb much of the sealer. Either a solvent or water based will be effective. Water based doesn’t have as much of an odor.
You can remove the sealer with a chemical stripper or often reapplying more sealer will loosen the dried sealer. Let it sit and remove it all before it dries.
Thanks for the video, sincerely. I am just about to seal my DIY project and I am looking for the best sealer I can find. I have used crema marfil polished marble for the bathroom floor (very large tiles) and for the shower walls (mosaic). I can get the 511 Impregnator nearby easily. Do you think this is a good (best) choice or would you order something else ? Thanks ! :)
What is the best sealer for porcelain shower wall tile? I used Mapei pre mixed grout, is there a length of time I need to wait to seal it? Great video, very informative. Thanks!! I am using Mapei colored silicone for the corners, and around shelves, etc. That needs to be sealed as well?
This is formulated for porcelain tile: www.tilebar.com/laticrete-quartz-and-porcelain-sealer-quart.html Normally 48 hours is plenty of time to wait. There is not need seal the silicone. Good luck.
I have rough surface tiles in shower area and it capture all dirt, would sealing it helps better smoother surface and maintain the good looking native tiles?
Thank you for your tips, can you tell me which sealer to use on a Quartz Countertop(Calacatta classic), I purchased Stone Polish (color &gloss enhancer and when I applied left a residual like sand on the counter and a very strong chemical smell. Can you advice please is there a better polish to use?
The Stone Polishes that I am familiar with are for areas that need to have their shine restored. If you are just looking for a sealer then try: www.tilebar.com/laticrete-quartz-and-porcelain-sealer-quart.html Good LUCK!
My contractor used 511 seal and enhancer. Original tile was matte, we wanted it to have a slight shine. Now the tile has shine, but looks like a dirty mop was used and just smeared all over. (He didn’t use a mop, just describing what it looks like) HOW DO WE FIX THIS, it almost looks like he left too long, didn’t wipe off when he was supposed to. Or moreover, didn’t apply it correctly.
If sealer is not installed correctly it can be streaky, especially an enhancer. Applying thin coats in different direction normally can cover and blend well. Don’t let sealer puddle. Good Luck.
I am assuming since it is porcelain you are able to clean it, Nothing should soak in. There is really nothing that can stop topical stains, this would be a matter of maintenance. There are not any tile sealer I know of that would help. Any tile cleaner should work. I like Laticrete’s Klenzall
I had an intricate marble tile installed in my shower a year ago. It was sealed. It has darkened and the grout turned orange from the iron in the water. I have tried cleaning with steam, marble cleaners, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide with a battery-operated scrubber. Nothing works completely. It is a no-curb shower and the dark marble is going up the back wall.
Laurie I am sorry. This is common for marbles, and stone in general, in showers. The chemicals in a shower can cause havoc on the natural composition of the stone causing your very situation. You are doing the right things and unfortunately nothing may work completely. This is why, personally, I don’t like stone in showers.
Oxyclean . Make it paste like … scrub. Let sit.. rinse . I use a steamer first to rinse, then just the shower head. If you need to do walls use some paper toweling to keep the solution in place then mis some in a spray bottle and wet that. Let soak. “ you can clean anything w oxyclean”.

Have you ever used Tung Oil as a sealer for stone? Do you have a perspective to share on this?
Back in the day we used to use this a lot. Today I prefer the sealers.

My favorite sealer is StoneTech’s Bulletproof.

It can help but if it is heavily textured it will still hold dirt. A natural sealer should not change the aesthetic.
