    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  3 года назад +6

      Thanks Barb. This was meant more for existing installs, but for a new install it's best to seal the surface of the tile before grouting. If you're not already done grouting, then this will make sure that the grout itself doesn't stain the visible surface of the tile. Try not to get much into the joints of ungrouted tile... if a little sealer gets in between the tile joints it's nothing to freak out about though. Then once installed and grouted, come back and seal the grout. Then just seal every few years the way I did in the video. Good luck with your backsplash.

    Loved the video but was wondering what I should use on my travertine kitchen sink. It gets a lot of traffic and I do my best to clean it on a daily basis but that 511 impregnator seems to wear off fairly quickly. I’ve noticed I’ve started getting little holes in the bottom of my sink and it’s not even 6months old. Before I even got it installed I used that impregnator sealer on it twice so I’m thinking I need something more durable. I also need some type of color lacquer or stone safe caulk to put in the little holes that have already started to form in the bottom of the sink. What do you recommend?

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  Год назад

      Natural stone in a sink is going to be very difficult to maintain. I typically avoid natural stone in fixtures that are heavily used with water like sinks and showers. If you are getting holes and pitting in your then it is in real trouble. Caulking those holes is not going to work as anything more than a really temporary Band-Aid. Simple sealing is probably not going to solve your issues at this point either... what I would suggest is you find a local tile and stone shop (with pictures in hand) and see if they have recommendations as what can be done to save your sink. Sorry, but I don't think this is going to be a easy fix.

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  3 месяца назад

      Thanks. As for your question, sealer won't do anything to or for glass tiles. You don't need to seal glass at all. If you have a glass and stone mix or you want to seal any grout in between your glass tiles, you can apply the sealer to the whole surface and just wipe it away as normal... as long as you realize the sealer will only seal the permeable surfaces like stone or grout. If your worried that it could cause streaks or smudges on the glass... feel free to test it in a small spot first, but it should just wipe off easily since it can't penetrate the surface of glass at all.

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  2 года назад

      There are sealers made specifically for brick and mortar. I would apply with a small paint roller rather than a cloth for your situation. Sealers don't generally make things glossy, but test in a small spot before you do the whole backsplash first if you want to make sure.

    can I seal outdoor ceramic floor tiles with this product, or do you recommend something else?? thx

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  Год назад

      Ceramic tiles are typically not really designed to be sealed and generally do not stain like a natural stone tile. Most are do not have a particularly porous surface like natural stone, particularly if they are glazed. There's some debate on weather sealing ceramic times tiles can be helpful... and I recommend you do a web search on that topic so you can see the different view points and nuanced debate on the subject. I personally wouldn't seal ceramic tiles unless the tile manufacturer specifically recommends it. My personal opinion is that sealing the vast majority of ceramic time is a waste of time and money at best.

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  2 года назад

      They make stick on with actual stone now? To be honest, I've never used anything quite like what you describe, but the process for sealing should be similar. I always seal anything stone before grout or caulk for a new install to make sure there is no risk of staining. Only apply to the surface only and not inside the space you intend to caulk or it could hurt the caulks ability to adhere to the stone. Test the sealer on an extra piece just to make sure it plays nice with the stone veneer stuff you got. I'm curious, how did the install go with the stick on stuff and do you think it will perform well over time?

    Question - my parents want to seal their kitchen backsplash that is mosaic with natural stone and metal. I am struggling to find how to deal with the metal portions. Any advice?

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  Год назад

      Mixed material mosaics are generally sealed across the entire surface. Nonporous materials like glass and most metals will not typically be harmed by the sealer. Sealer will just wipe away from the glass or non-porous metal surfaces and only actually seal the stone tile. Just be sure to test a small area that's not real noticeable or a leftover piece from the install before doing the whole backsplash just to make sure there isn't any unexpected or unforeseen reaction. With the sheer number of possible materials in mosaic tiles, the only way to make sure that the sealer will work well with it is to test it. Chances are it won't be an issue, but better safe than sorry.

    I just installed a marble tile backsplash in my kitchen. Do I seal the tile before or after I grout?

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  2 года назад +1

      Seal tile before you grout, but only the surface of the tile... not inside the grout lines. The sealer will protect the tile the grout color from potentially staining the surface of the stone tile. You'll want to keep the sealer out of the grout lines so the grout will be able to adhere to the tile itself though. After the grout cures, you can seal that as well assuming it is a cement based grout. Look on the grout packaging for cure times. I would only worry about sealing the grout in danger areas that are likely to get stained like around the sink or stove.
