I'm old now and I think to myself, how lucky was I to live in the time when all those great artists like Ronstadt, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Doobie Bros, ABBA, ACDC, INXS, Elton, ELO, BeeGees, Frampton, plus many many others were our normal listening on the radio. I don't think we appreciated how good these artists were.
Linda Ronstadt was every young mans dream, and I listen to this song, and remember all the girls in my life, who tried to imitate her look. It was a wonderful time to be alive!

I saw the Eagles earlier this year, they sounded perfect and played to the studio version on all songs. Don Henley’s voice was smooth as silk. Same with ELO, perfection.

Well we were living in the music revolution and I didn’t know that until it was over, it started for me with Elvis in 1956, the Beatles in 1964, then Merle Haggard, Bob Wills , Hank Williams, then The Beach Boys, Willie, and Waylon, in and on.

The power of profound lyrics paired with truly awesome vocals touches our souls. I had the pleasure of seeing Linda in 1980 in Raleigh, NC. At the time, I was 19 year-old soldier stationed in Ft. Bragg, NC. I always loved this song. Now, at age 63, newly retired I hear lyrics in the context of my own life. And, they take on a whole new meaning. "You better let somebody love you... before it's too late". I found the love of my life at age 57.

My goodness, what an emotional killer "Desperado" is. Henley and Frey wrote a masterpiece that became the understated anthem of the 70's. What else can you say about this phenomenal song, except that Linda Ronstadt absolutely stole from the Eagles and made it her own. I love it and play it myself on both guitar and keyboard and when I do, the only voice I can hear in my mind is that of Ms Ronstadt.
Bless her for sharing her wonderful talent with us, then, now and forever.

I have always loved Linda Ronstadt. I introduced my sons to her music and beautiful voice. They both love Don Henley and The Eagles and I sent them this version of Desperado and a Don Henley version. They were both blown away by Linda's voice and I believe I have helped create some new fans from the Millennial Generation.

Today so many singers service themselves rather than the song. They start out belting with little to no restraint, basically showing off, to say nothing of being auto-tuned, and are left with nowhere to go. Here Linda only really belts it out once, near the end, thereby allowing for a strong build to a cathartic climax. It gives the song much more impact than it would have otherwise. This is what good singers do, they service the song rather than themselves.

Without a doubt, this performance is the “DEFINITIVE” version of this haunting song...so powerful, heartfelt, the emotion being conveyed simply takes you to that particular place in time.
Ms. Ronstadt is THE ONE, THE ONLY ONE who can sing Desperado the way it should be sang....utterly breathtaking rendition.

@@trvman1 Ms. Ronstadt did Desperado with The Nelson Riddle Orchestra in one of her concerts back in the ‘80s. It’s here on RUclips - you can’t miss it. She definitely will take you there once again with that full orchestra version.
Her “Desperado” is simply so awesome whether it is just by a lone piano accompaniment or with a full orchestra💕🥰❤️
